This definitely one of the better videos I've seen on here. One guy on youtube completely removed the whole wheel lock mechanism that pops up. LOL! A few things I wanted to add to those of you who read this. The long skinny rod on the side is not needed (not shown in this video), I left this out. I also left out the skinny spring loaded rod that goes in at 1:25 - 1:32. Reason being is this was causing some binding and the wheel lock would not pop up after I reassembled everything. Also, Sami drilled out the black circle on the side of the ignition lock. I just dremeld flat the spring loaded tab on the inside (I wanted to keep it as stock looking as possible and keep debris out). Everyone asks about how to remove the security bolts on the top. I found the best way was with a small flat head screw driver and hammer at an angle and try to turn them loose. Took me 5 minutes for both on my first try. You'll see the square access holes in the front of the plastic housing. Look up the video "VW ignition lock bolts remove (No tool need)" by Alan W on you tube. Might want to mark the bolts with a sharpie so you can see if you made progress. For those of you that can't turn the key to get the lock cylinder to align, get a skinny vice grip and grip the key blade while its in the ignition, force turn it and you'll feel it give way. This might sound like a bad idea, but it works and will take some force. Last, clean and lube all pieces! Remember, install is reverse of removal. Just take your time and you'll see where all the pieces go. One last thing, keep in mind is the feature that disables the starter after you start the car is no longer available after this fix. This is actually what breaks inside the ignition lock and causes it to freeze up. Thanks again for this awesome video Sami. You and a few other videos on here helped me get this working for my friend.
Great video. Quick question though, behind the ignition lock cylinder (where the key goes in) there's a space. I have a plastic that goes into that space on my car but I noticed you did not insert it in your video. Dis you intentionally leave it out?
My key won't turn to the "on" position. Is there any way to remove the cylinder from the housing? Could I use a drill to make a hole in the housing, then use a pick or something to press down on the spring?
A mind meld just happened Looking at exactly the same problem and also wondering if what you describe worked (2 years ago now) is workable. Looking at all the other convoluted solutions I figured an access hole and a pick would get the key to on. I have a ragged 06 with 600k kms on it and don't care about the aesthetics of an unseen plastic cover. Thats why God made duct tape!
Great video bud. Do you have another video of how you took the airbag out? And about this video, what size of torx bit did you use for the steering wheel center screw? Thank you
+Rich V. . Hi, For Steering Wheel & Airbag Removal you can see this video: **********Before touching make sure the battery is disconnected*************** ----» ruclips.net/video/uC0eT__2a4o/видео.html ---» ruclips.net/video/R3nemT6AsiU/видео.html size of torx is 12 mmuse with 1/2`` socket.
+Swimi Sami Thank you bud. I will be changing the ignition switch of my car next weekend. This videos have helped a lot to know what I will be dealing with.
Very informative video, thank you very much. I am planning to change the key cylinder on my VW jetta of the same year. I was wondering, how did you get those 2 anti-theft screws out in the first place?
+Swimi Sami Thank you once more for the video and your time. I finally took out the some of the plastic material around those screws with a Dremel, the using small cutting bits, was able to get to the screws and cut a grove so that I could use a philips flat head to unscrew them. Lot os sweating lol! Thanks again for the video and your reply.
Did you have to change it out because of locked ignition and shifter cause im having the same problem i checked fuses everything looked good so replacing the whole ignition is the only option?
wot is the purpose of the pin and spring at 1:25 , and which way does it go in, does the solid end go into the hole he pokes at or is it spring in first?
You just skipped right over skipped a very important step in reassembly...thats where im stuck i cant get the metal piece with the springs back in. Also a long rod fell out and i dont know where it goes
Some words would have been nice, now we cant get the key insert back off and it must not be aligned proper, How the HELL do you get it back off???? show that step OK!!

👌 👌
The bolt head thing was genius
Just wanted to say thank you. I replaced the cylinder housing today and could not have done it without your video.
Did you see a long metal skinny peg when disassembling the lock? Where does that piece go? Also a tiny spring and a smaller skinny peg.
no problem ;)
Que gran video y qué paciencia. Felicidades saludos
excellent video. best on youtube
this video helped me fix my VWJetta 2006
I can't get the key out of the lock cylinder, any advices?

Missing a lot of info. Reassembly, the fact that there is a long metal pin not in your description. Assembly alignment etc.

man IAm in the same boat. I will drill a hole to press the the release tab so the lock cylinder slides out.
I dunno if it will work,

+Jabal bx ,
you must break them, or try to open them by hitting them with a hammer and a screwdriver. I will make a video to explain this.

I did the same thing, man that was not fun!
Merci bcp
Can you tell me please, how I can remove the black plastic cover around the lock cylinder before trying to untied anti theft screws?
Did you have to change it out because of locked ignition and shifter cause im having the same problem i checked fuses everything looked good so replacing the whole ignition is the only option?
Hi you don't need VCDS/VAG after all of this? Only need to removes somes screws and change the ignition key and that all?
wot is the purpose of the pin and spring at 1:25 , and which way does it go in, does the solid end go into the hole he pokes at or is it spring in first?
What was the problem
I hope the Mechanic at the dealership with my 2009 VW Jetta Wagon SE is at is as competent as you.
How do you get the steering wheel off any special tools needed for it?
hi,the ignition is not ok ,the locking bolt pops out when your key is to off position,it must pop out only when you take the key out.
At 10:12 You are mounting a plastic part with DE KLO letters on it. What is that part? Because I don't have one on my mk5 :)
Varna smat key
Bonjour , la prise noire branchée sur le neiman c'est quoi?? Merci

no one will tell you because it's a very important step and it's a secret, if you don't put EVERYTHING back correctly the lock is useless
Does anyone know how to repair or replace Audi TT 2008 Quattro ignition switch cylinder /ignition lock housing
Did you forget to plug in the immobilzer antenna into the lock cylinder? Lol
I cannot get the switch connected for the life of me
