- BMW Brilliance Powertrain Plant, Shenyang, China. Casting and Assembly the Engine.
The Shenyang location, which comprises the Tiexi and Dadong automotive plants and the engine plant including light-metal foundry, plays an important role in the BMW Group’s global production network. It contributes to the strategy of globally balanced growth, which includes installing production capacity in the respective regional markets.
BBA’s two automotive plants, Tiexi and Dadong, already produce five BMW models. With the expansion of its northern section, the Dadong plant will also have room for a sixth model, the new BMW X3.
BBA production in Shenyang builds vehicles exclusively for the Chinese market. The Dadong plant in the northeast of the city started production in 2004 and produces today the BMW 5 Series Long-Wheelbase Version. The Tiexi plant in the west of Shenyang went on-stream in 2012 and builds the BMW X1 Long-Wheelbase Version (including a plugin-hybrid version), the BMW 1 Series Sedan, the BMW 2 Series Tourer, the BMW 3 Series Long-Wheelbase Version and the BMW 3 Series Sedan.
A key component of the Shenyang location is the engine plant with light-metal foundry - the BMW Group’s only engine production facility outside Europe. The engine plant supplies the two vehicle production sites in Dadong and Tiexi with drive units for locally-produced BMW automobiles. A new high-voltage battery centre, which will assemble high-voltage batteries for plug-in hybrid vehicles, is currently under construction. - Авто/Мото
A lot of sour grapes here. Just returned from China. Rode on High Speed trains - punctual, extremely comfortable and clean. Also visited the Three Gorges Dam which is about 7 to 8 times larger than the Hoover Dam. The ship lift, the largest in the world, operated perfectly.
ahhhh yes. the soulless eyes of a factory worker. destroyed dreams and shattered hopes. I love my BMW engine.
i really enjoyed this. the QC looks tight, overall build quality looks up to par. i bet their workers are well taken care of, too.
To all ignorants, this plant is for Asian market only. European BMWs and Middle East ones are made in Dingolfing, Germany. Get any VIN number and check it online. US/Canada also has its own BMW plant because the regulations there are very different from Europe.
God Bless the Heroic Hard Working People of China. Good to see China is Now the Leader of the World.
"God bless?" How ironic. The Chinese government oppresses freedom of religion. In fact, mainland Chinese people don't even have access to RUclips.
dang! those germans changed A LOT! XD
ben oui, comme des Français aussi ....
genetic engineering
Smart and careful - Chinese. Great people!
Very nice factory. Seems to be well-organized and capable to deliver consistently high quality. I'd have no reservations to buy a BMW with an engine made in Shenyang, despite I'm German.
It's interesting that the language used in the labeling, and the computer software they're using on the assembly line is English. It looks like a very high quality operation. I'm certain that every part of the process and the quality assurance testing is specified by the German engineers.
Well duh, spartan. What do you think I meant by 'German engineers' , Chinese cheese dicks? Pay attention to what is written before you comment. My comment regarding quality is for the other commenters that stated that since it's in china, the quality is poor which is nonsense.
Fred Flintstone Quite correct Fred.
This is a top quality operation, very modern.
If there is any problems with the engines then it is with the design of the motor or the materials used in it's construction.
There is always Chinese "finger print" on made in China products. Please see for example on "15:02" the fork lift charging cord. Looks Chinese level of high end knowledge to me. Wires should not be seen, right? Even modern, it's Chinese.
I would rather ask what the cause of the problem was. Was it the materials, or the design, or some other problem? I would not be so brain dead as to just assume that the problem is the fact that the work is being done in China.
of Course the chinese can never creat any technology of their own they are just counter fitters
Any high tech industry have to be supervised by foreign nation
5:40 That operator shouted, this one scraped!
I like the automated lift trucks... Nice.
Good to see quality German engineering alive and well in CHINA!!!!
I'm impessed, they use the same guy for every job.
lol
BECAUSE THEY ALL LOOK THE SAME, LOL
Good one
racist
saves on wages
As I saw the comments, many people worry about the quality, but first: I don't think those products will be sold in Germany or US. Second: The AMG factory employee's ( I mean the mechanicals) are not just ARIA Germans, some of them are Turkish and other nationalities. I think it does not make a difference in the workforce where they are came from, the really important thing is, how educated they are. I still trust in the leading German premium car manufacturers they are selecting the most skilled and educated people to get the best result on their product, even if they are making cars in Asia or anywhere else in the world.
Chinese industry can produce cheap or fake, bad quality products, but Im sure the BMW quality control definitely strictly can produce up to the same quality as the german BMW factory. Good luck for the expanding BMW factory! Good luck for China! I wish to get the premium cars affordable for every hard worker, like here in the UK.
Truly amazing. All I see are billions of bucks invested and a state of the art factory with better quality control than BMW has ever dreamed of having. No shortcuts here with hungover help on monday morning and people not doing their job on friday afternoon. If you screw up in a Chinese factory you go to jail. There is no blaming your screw up on the management like the American workforce does.
great video .. amazing to find such excellent quality workmanship & technical skills that come out of china ,, their diligence at tasks are very commendable ,,,, yess very hard & dedicated work has made china what it is today ... the same goes for Japan ...!!!!
muy buen video !! 👍
Very nice plant
good to see BMW china gives the workers BMW work shirts.
looks like a top notch operation i was surprised to see the short block assembled by hand made in china doesnt mean low quality automatically... not anymore
amazing factory
No big change in engine quality. BMW engines have been burning oil like there's no tomorrow for decades so moving production to China will go mostly unnoticed.
do they use synthetic oil?
peter must have had an m52 LOL
One of the most unreliable brand for engine yest beautiful cars.
ya think so?
BMW and VW need to use correct oil, better 0W-40(30) than 5W-40(30).
looks state of the art
OK kid, you're job is to stand here and when the engine blocks come through, you look in all the holes with this flashlight and see if anything is in there. Just do that every day for 30 years, and you can retire.
Very modern efficient engine assembly plant. With computer and CMM engines must pass each inspection point set by BMW!
Amazing
14:20 They finally found a use for the Nintendo power glove.
NYC video
Even in Toronto, majority of BMW owners are of Chinese descent. If China loves BMW so much, it is not a surprise they build them there.
Trades46 not really, Chinese buy BMW just because the car is cheaper than MB and Audi
Haha that's a good one. Last check an equivalent 328i when fully loaded cost about ~$5k MORE than a C300 or A4 with equal spec.
Somehow we went from iron ingots to molten metal to sand cast templates to castings in a few minutes.
Amazing...
Truly an amazing factory. If I'm being honest, I'm not sure Americans would be that disciplined on an assembly line. :(
Now called CMW!
Im happy to have a bmw engine from 2003 Real made in germany
impressive. You can clearly see the future is not for workers, it is for robot repair people.
What is glowing orange at 12:30 mark? Is that the exhaust? Does that happen on my car (if it were literally sitting still) at 3,000 RPM?
People that complain that to bring back jobs we need to manufacture everything again need to watch this. Look at this giant plant and look at how many employees work there just a handful. Those jobs will never come back it makes no sense with these machines that are practically autonomous. Your asking a company to raise prices, make less profit, and put forth a inferior product (human error) in what world would that work.
then id say to politicians its far more valuable to keep the price where it needs to be and make at home and employ local people and keep both culture and structure of a workplace intact and a happy prosperous industry why do we need cheaper and more profits ? just greedy big people ist get rid of them and their mentality
All we have to do is stipulate how many of the tasks at a plant must be given to humans. I see a lot of forklift driving jobs at the plant in China that need to be filled.
@@LegendLength Look at the dollars and interest rate, it's not hard to know and understand US will lose more manufacturing in the future.
Admirable, functionality and human dedication to the engine.interesting on how you could obtain a BMW from the Chinese manufacturers.
I would wait about 20 years to see how they hold up
Finest German engineering and manufacturing right here!
this is only for the Chinese market.
Jeppe Werring
Think so?? I don't, somehow.
Why do I say that? How come that I bought a fluke multimeter in Europe that explicitly says "Only for the Chinese market"..Sure.....Who do you think you are kidding. Maybe a car engine is different, but just saying. Only for Chinese market won't do it for me.
Would be interesting if BMW took an engine from this plant and one from a European plant and gave them to a 3rd party tester without telling them who assembled them. See if the quality is similar, better or worse. I did notice most of the equipment seen in the video is from Germany, so my guess is quality would be very close.
Very kewl robotic forklifts
1:05 Robot lifters ? WOW !
Thanks for the info. No more Bimmer.
I saw the same guy working on several different lines. It is as if the entire production is prepped as a movie. There is little noise and no dirt to make it appear as if it is like this all the time. Maybe it is but I doubt it.
i need to check alibaba or aliexpress for these engines
that can explain many things after the E39....(2000+)
They might build exclusively for china and then send parts to germany for building units for other markets.. Chinese engine blocks .... Ive never had any luck with metals coming out of china
the quality of metal in the market depends on your payment, dude. if you r rich, no problem, but obviously u r not.
efficient way to handover tech to another country
I will move to China and work for BMW, Follow the Asian dream
Would be funny if the last shot was of someone driving away in a Toyota.
Made in China!!!! Gotta love it
I would use two for aircraft usage!
Just watched Henry Ford's production line... Imagine if we could time-warp him to a modern Ford line just to let him have a look... and give him a spin in all the top cars too...
Looks very impressive. It looks like the plant is very automated, the tools are made by Bosch, computer driven robots and tolerance levels, testing and precision torque specifications on all nuts and bolts. I suspect the quality is identical to the ones built and assembled in Germany. Most of these cars are probably made for the Asian market.
7:14 the +49 telephone number is the german hotline. kinda funny to see such a detail in a chinese production :)
If you look at 15:02 the plug with the cable, it is synonymous with the security is not so accurate
The floors & machinery are too dirty for a BMW plant.
The German & Euro plants are spotless.
Just in case people in the comment section can't read the description "BBA production in Shenyang builds vehicles exclusively for the Chinese market."
So what this video is saying that BMW' s are no longer German cars and are now Chinese cars. Good news for the consumer because now a BMW will only be worth 1/2 what they used to sell for. A new BMW should now sell for around $15,000.
What every 'prestige ' car buyer wants an engine built in China.
To make high quality stuff is a piece of cake for chinese, only if they have strong initiative or not.
B M W should stand for "break my windows"
beautynads u can try 💪
Hmmn, all very nice except for the dangerous 3 phase charging plug at the very end.
Does BMW now stand for Bejing Motor Works?
why yes it does jeff hahaha
No, it means Being Made Worse
Jeffrey Collier not beijing motor,Beijing motor's partner is Mercedes-Benz. This factory belongs BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd in shenyang,Liaoning Province。
Beijing works with Mercedes, dude.
Big Money Waste
Amazing shop floor banter amongst these guys.. (no girls allowed on the line in China!)
Whoa... they have Infinity Gauntlet scanners!
i can tell you, german BMW engine get build at Landshut Bavaria... but i cant say if americans get the german or the chinese variant :D
My friend neither india gets the same build quality engine as we have it here at bavaria.
very well.
They are making engine for BMW-i8 , The engine is 3 cylinders
What quality.
China numba one!
My E34 was build in Oxford ;-)
BMW PRECISIONE CINESE mmmmmm cambio marca
Looks like a right laugh working there eh!
Super happy Chinese workers
Those who claim China makes rubbish, think again. When Japan introduced bikes and cars people laughed, look at them now, they're better at everything. Same with Korea, they make amazing machinery, ships, electronics. Look at the precision coming out of Taiwan, basically an advanced China. The rest of the world should be worried, very worried, China will catch up very soon. Cars coming out of Germany are merely a status symbol, they're not better. In fact, for reliability and resale value I'd opt for a Japanese or Korean car, the German cars are a liability and become almost worthless moments after they've been driven off the dealer floor.
Nice BMW , way to keep the money and work in Germany , so pay for the shipping , like AMG! One motor, fifty automated forklifts and 100 China men , nice.
6:06 mistake in the cast. but he doesnt care :D
And nobody realises that all these cars made in China will only be sold China. This is so that they can satisfy local demand which is huge in a growing country like this one. The cars that you find in America or Eu will still be made in Western Countries.
e fantastiko
How to do your inspections right, move torch up and down but stare at the same spot
This explains their recent reliability issues.
ماشاء الله تبارك الله
i could be wrong but i think this plant is just for the bmw 3 cylinder and 4 cylinders i did not see a 6cyl in the video
It looks like what they are doing is a combination of sand casting and something else. It's safe to assume the details are an in house secret.
I want a 3 cylinder bmw engine in the usa. Please ship them to the usa!
Juden Arier they sound better than the 4 cylinders
10:20 on scene from next terminator....bmw terminators lol
You'd think with all that technology they could produce an engine block that can survive the occasional overheat, and won't shed it's bolt hole threads when you remove a head bolt.
engineered early retirement
Does this lower the price for the product? Probably not, but it does INCREASE the profits!
I couldn't help laughing at these ridiculous comments. BMW/Mercedes/Audi/VM/Jaguar&Land Rover/Honda/Toyota/Nissan/Ford and so on, all have engine factories in China. China auto market share 30% of World market in 2017, nearly equal US+Japan+Germany+UK.
Cory Plum you ignorant, France manufactures cars, not UK
That's because of Chinas rising economy, it's easier and probably cheaper to to get into China and make the whole car there than import it from another country. Yes this takes advantage of their cheaper labour but I bet the prices are lower to compensate, but this is such a huge market, it's a licence to print money. lol
Tell that to Bentley, BMW, Ford, JLR, Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Rolls Royce, Vauxhall, Morgan, Caterham, Ariel and others.
There are many others, like other types of vehicles and aircraft. For example Mercedes has run a huge truck making joint venture with NORINCO called North Benz for decades.
@@olivertaylor4779 Simply because China has over a billion people and the government put them to work.
German quality and craftmanship at it's best hmmm
This explains why I keep finding sand in my sump.
these parts are exclusively supply china market and why you found sand in your sump ?
Saturday October 21st my homeboys BMW 530 x i steering wheel locks up automatically on the highway. He then loses control and goes off into a grass ditch hitting something cracking the windshield. And then I watch this video
how do they keep everything so nice and clean
Nightspyz1 because it's a new factory have a look in a few years time!!!
Discipline. Iso certified business have an adequate standard of cleaningness.
6:33 is that an inline 12? if yes that would be quite a long car lol
So it's CMW now instead of BMW?
employees are not wearing safety glasses.
How sand removed from casting?
german engineering at its finest
