Good video mate, you've probably bought a new one by now, but, maybe some of that metal epoxy putty from supa cheap would fix the crack and you could reuse the old girl as a spare.
- liquid gasket maker (Loctitw518 or something similar (oil resistant) can replace weathered, broken or missing gaskets on reassembly. a good selection of spare o-rings can be handy sometimes too. - lots of greasy schmoo is always better.. lol.. (was the housing failure too much torque or too long a bolt ?? - I suppose "enough torque", just enough bolt and some Loctite 243 works a charm (NB, reduce torque "effort" when running in fully "lubricated" bolts.). - now you have all the spareparts you may never need - nicely cleaned, lubed and placed into long term storage - ie fresh assembly.. (NB, it may be 25-50% reduction in torque - click - for the same clamping force - liquid threadlocker is a heavy-ish lube.)
Good job guys as always. Only other thing I do is inspect motor shaft bearings for noise and notchiness (if that's a word)- remove side seals and add some grease. If cheaper bearings almost guaranteed to be minimal grease in bearing. Not telling you what to do guys just telling you what I (we) do. Thanks mate 👍
Thanks Tom my mechanical skills (or lack of) are all self taught and learnt from other people much smarter than me so I'm always willing to learn new tricks and ways to do things :) glad you enjoyed it.
@@a.j.overlanding6995 mate I like that you willing to have a go and you wanting to learn from your dad. Good life long skills. We supposed to be heading out Simpson and Alice early September 😞 not sure what or where now. Ps I was doing my automotive mechanical apprenticeship at taree motorama (Toyota dealership in Taree) when the first prado came in on a truck. I thought it was the flashiest car ever 🤔😀
It's a tough time to be planing any interstate trips at the moment in Australia hopefully one day soon we will be able to plan and travel a bit more. ( fingers crossed for the simpson)
Thanks for the informative video. Bad luck on the cracked mount. More likely to be from not having all four 'feet' sitting flush against the mounting face than overtightening. Or, that bolt has been loose initiating a crack during use. I must say, good job getting a boat and camper into your household garage!
Thanks Paul I wouldn't be surprised if it was cracked from the hell we have put the car through on the lap of Aus. The garage is definetly a tight squeeze thats for sure.
Haha yes did think about it but best to be safe and just get a new winch. Atleast this one will have enough spare parts for when i break the next one. :)
Not good when that happens after all your good work so thanks for posting the whole thing.
I've had my Kings winch for nearly 4 years now never let me down with regular servicing well done on the video thanks guys.
They are a surprisingly good product as you would know with simple service and maintenance. Look forward to getting to use it more soon.

Hilarious ending

The sucks mate, still enjoyed & learned a bit ! Great work by the assistant 😂
Haha yes you can't win them all sadly. Alex is a pretty good assistant until she gets bored and goes inside (regular occurrence)

I'll just add that the water would have gotten into the housing from the fact there is no seal around the freespool pin in the housing
Thanks for the informative video.

Should be using marine grease
How were you able to get the rotor into the brushes in the enclosed casing?.
Shit happens, I would have put the winch back in with 3 bolts.

...& then youtube video it every time winch, till you strike viral content gold! :8)
Bugger😡
Yeh not ideal atleast I have a spare parts winch now I guess. 😉
