I Forget Where We Were is my favorite album of all time. I've never felt more emotional from another album. Gutted he canceled his US tour, was slated to see him for the 3rd time last week.
Made me so sad to see the U. S. tour cancelled. I Forget Where We Were was so good. Feel like 👍🏽 be been on an emotional journey since I started listening in 2014.
Was so lucky to get to see him in Vienna this past year... his music has saved me. And I felt going to that show was my small way of simply saying thank you. Amazing show.
During the worst time of my life, at 17, when I couldn't sleep for days at a time, I Forget Where We Were was the only thing that managed to make me fall asleep. I listened religiously every night for a year or two. It means so much to me.
Ben Howard was never going to be mainstream, how many people who like mainstream music have even listened to every kingdom or I forget where we were and thought they were good albums. Hardly anyone gave him a second thought. When in fact both these albums were absolute masterpieces and some of the most moving music I've ever listened to. I've played after the affair to people who aren't into music and get almost no reaction at all, when it's one of the best pieces of music I've ever heard. He's a genius, and matters to those who appreciate what he is
He was standing in front of me in a coffee shop on my college campus about 11 years ago. I was going to school for journalism. I had just found his music 5 days prior. I couldn’t believe the synchronicity. I told him so and we chatted a bit. He had a very gracious and humble demeanor. Lovely, talented guy.
This man have had the power to reveal emotions within myself that I didn't even know they existed. He healed me, he hurt me, brought me to tears, saved me from the dark cave I was in. Sometimes listening to him feels like too much to handle, it's painful as a needle that pokes into you, but relaxes your mind at the same time and brings you somewhere else. A whole new world to explore where everything you perceive is ten times more powerful. I wish he knew how much he represents for me. I am no one, but he reached me and made me life more beautiful and worth living. Thanks so much for always playing you, for not selling yourself to the masses, for your authenticity. Keep up man, people out here appreciate you more that you could imagine, forever by your side.
I think the album "I forget where we were" captures a very interesting moment in Ben's artistic journey. While he pushes the boundaries in many ways, I think every song is emotionally still very accessible and sonically catchy, they never let you down somehow. I'm not exaggerating when I'm saying for about 2 years I listened to that whole album practically every single day. And to that day still, every time I listen to this album, it's pure magic. I'm not aware of the instruments being played, it's just one big world of emotions around me. After that album he really wasn't scared at all any more (which is great!). That's when you had to start putting your artistic glasses on sometimes to get to appreciate every single song. Or I would discover the true beauty of songs years after the albums were released. I definitely wouldn't dare to say that "I forget where we were" was his best album. Every album is unique, and none is better than the other. But I think we have the privilege to get a glimpse into a very significant artistic transition during that album. And him being in this transition time resulted in something so utterly interesting. For me, it's out of the question that Ben is one of the absolute greatest artists alive, and his journey is so unique. He's certainly one of my biggest artistic inspirations and will always be! I recently saw him live on his "is it?" tour! I was getting chills all the time, and he just seems like such a great person to be around! What an artist! What a man! (great video by the way! Well done!👌)
Wonderful breakdown. Thank you so much! I find it very relatable how the music of Ben is able to grow on you. There are songs I didn't like all that much at first glance, but turned to be my favourites later on. Amazing to read how significant IFWWW has been for you.
I was lucky enough to see the is it album release at the Royal Albert hall probably the greatest experience I will ever have in my life, Ben is truly special!
Very interesting that you experience that as well! I'm not sure if it has to do with the music itself or the way he wins our trust and we then give the songs another and another chance until we see their beauty...@@withinmotion
I have loved Ben's work with all my heart for over 8 years now. I love how his music has changed in accordance with his life - there is so much sincerity in it. The album Every Kingdom is like life-giving water for me (lately I can't stop listening to the song These Waters). but at the same time, " I forget where we were" is such an ode to openness and vulnerability that I take my hat off to him. Ben's next, more recent work is even more transformative. I love and embrace it. I dream of seeing him perform live. Love from Ukraine.
No artist has influenced my life more than Ben Howard. He is in my opinion one of the greatest British musicians we have produced in recent years. I still get goosebumps when I listen to the same songs I have heard hundreds of times before.
I rarely comment on anything but wanted to share. We saw Ben this summer in London and the weather was hell, and at some point Ben said something about “we were thinking if anyone would even come today”. And it struck me how humble that was. I adore the band and the music and Ben himself, they give such great and calm and hopeful energy. This video just reminds me why I love Ben Howard so much
I had no idea of Bens illness. Bens 2014 album coincided with the death of my younger sister, it sits in a dark place in my heart. I rarely can listen to it now. The connection. It’s a classic album.

As much as I love the album "I forget where we were", I'm really glad that he didn't continue to write songs in that spectrum. Each new album was a new journey for me. So unique, different, and full of love. By some happy coincidence, each of his albums is associated with a new stage in my life. And you can wake me up in the middle of the night and ask me who my favorite artist is, and I will tell you immediately: Ben "Sunshine" Howard.
This is why I respect him so much. He could have done what so many others do when they find success; turn their back to the music they really love and create *for* the masses, but he chose to stay true to himself and that seeps into his music. It's honest, and I love it.
"Seen fortune in my lifetime Gave it all to the man instead" Always give me the impression that he saw how corrupt the industry is, when most artists only see a tiny fraction of their success. And opted for an alternative path where he makes a living but isn't used. ❤
I had no idea about Ben’s illness. I knew something was wrong when he canceled his 2023 tour recently and figured it might be due to mental health or something of the like. It all started for me with the discover of the Communion label documentary “Austin to Boston”. Absolutely fell in love with Ben’s music from there on out. Ben’s music has played a major role in my life in the last 10 years as I was captivated immediately with “Every Kingdom”, particularly with “Promise”. I own the record on vinyl and nothing sounds so pure as that song does on LP. It took some listening to get used to IFWWW but quickly fell in love and I saw him at the HoB in Dallas with my now ex-wife in 2015 or so(I still have the tour t-shirt from the show, even if it’s a bit bit snug 🙂). I was completely and utterly enamored with his live performances and scoured RUclips for every piece of live music and deep cuts I could find on here. When he put out Noonday Dream, I was hesitant at first but quickly found solace in the time of going through a messy divorce and rebuilding my own life. Songs like “Nica Libres at Dusk” and “Towing the Line” really stood out to me and the instrumental “A Boat To an Island 2/Agatha’s Song” (Now that I understand who Agatha is in his life). While I feel CftW is my least favorite album it is, artistically, one of his most adventurous and experimental. I had long anticipated it since it was a 4 year hiatus without much new music from him other than some deep cuts in RUclips. I really like his style of various type of songs in this album and “The Strange Last Flight of Richard Russell” is my favorite. I couldn’t ever seem to catch him live whether it was a touring location issue or my own personal issue of not being able to make the shows. However when he dropped “Is It?” Early this year you could tell it was a much more ambitious and light hearted album but still keeping to his creative roots as an indie artist. I found the music videos for “Walking Backwards” and “Days of Lantana” in that little house in France (I think). I was completely in love with Ben’s music all over again and to see Indie Bourne back in his band was like a dream. Ben, I wish you all the best. We all love you and hope you are doing well and resting. You are one of the finest songwriters and musicians in the last 30 years and I hope you continue to make the music that makes YOU happy! I’ll revisit “Austin to Boston” soon, and I hope to see you on your next tour in 2024. Be well.
after not listening to him for years, i saw him live in july and it was lifechanging, the way he connected with the crowd and the way we were all in the same wave and it was such a safe place, im so happy my brother showed me his music and convinced me to see him live
The world needs people like him, authentic humble. I am grateful I could see him in Switzerland this year, was such a moment, a normal but special in the same time, people fully listening to him.
you talk about the most underrated and mysterious music geniuses in a compassionate and sincere way that allow us a glimpse into the artist's mind and soul. Never knew the tragic yet inspiring tale of one of the most spellbinding music creators, Ben Howard. It broke me & healed me at the same time
I really liked I Forget Where We Were and Noonday Dream. I think it's great how he never tries to make the same record twice, and I think it's important to explore darker emotions sometimes.
My friend has been a fan of Ben's for years, and while I didn't mind his music, it never stuck to me. This was until I saw him live at Alexandra Palace earlier this year. The atmosphere with the lights illuminating the field, and the rain constantly pouring down was hypnotising. I've been hooked ever since, and all those songs I almost shrugged off now hit so much deeper.
@@tomcollins5334 So true. I wouldn't have changed a single thing. I think the rain actually made it better. Just sucks that the amount of rain ended up stretching the jumper I got at the show haha.
I agree with the devoted fans statement. I was aware of him before Noonday Dream but only knew the big songs. That third album saved me at a strange time in my life, particularly the song The Defeat. I care more for the 3 most recent albums than the first 2.
Was so lucky to get to go to his show in Vienna this past year. It was such a peaceful, beautiful time... all these strangers just coming together to in their own small way, say thank you to Ben for the music he has created, and shared. My favorite live show so far. No buzz, nothing but the music. Perfect.
Been a fan of Ben from the start. He could have been as huge as some of contemporaries but he is purely about the music and refreshingly chose his own path and thankfully so. I’m still with him all the way,
Was so sad he canceled his tour to the US. The show was supposed to be last weekend. I’ve followed him the full time and his change in music as well. Hope he finds his full happiness on this journey. I’ll be there if he shows up on tour again.
Thank You so much for this video. I’ve been fan of Ben Howard for couple of years now. He was one of the main inspirations for me to start learning a guitar. Im battling with hearing problems for almost a year now and because of That i couldnt show up to Bens Concert which was in my city (doctors said that it would can make my problem much worse). I’ve Never cried so hard in my life. I felt like this was my only chance to see him live and - if there would be the Opportunity, to say thank You for all of his beautiful Music. I didn’t know about his recent health problems, but his attitude towards this them is so inspring that it gave me some inspiration and hope for solving mine. I hope that he will not lose that. Even if I will lose my hearing i am forever grateful that i had a chance to went on this beautiful Musical journey which is Bens Music. Again thank You very much for this video and im sorry if this message may seem bit chaotic, im writing this under huge inspiration. Im wishing You and all of the people who are reading this All the best! : )
Ben has been a hero of mine since day 1 when I came across a copy of every kingdom on a pub counter I'm Porthtowan, Cornwall. His quiet approach to life and dedication to his craft sucked me in. I loved that he didn't Want to perform the tracks that made him famous as I went to the gigs when he was really struggling and it didn't take a lot to see why. Sometimes you get famous when you just don't want to be. I was so lucky to see him perform with A Blaze of Feather last month at the Minack Theatre. Just playing the guitar. Happy and content. Close enough to reach out too but you know he was in his happy place. Keep being you Ben that's all we will ever ask. 💙
Every album from him and his crew have been exceptional. Is It? Is genuinely some of my favorite work of ANY of my favorite artists have put out recently! Can’t wait for the next
Been a fan of his for a long time and always enjoyed the uniqueness of each album that he put out. But I had never heard his story until now! Definitely gives me even more appreciation for him and his art.
I've been a fan of Ben and his music since 2015, initially enchanted not by Every Kinngdom, but the vulnerability and emotional load of I Forget Where We Were. As a fan, I have to admit to catching myself feeling slightly disappointed every time he recorded a new album, as there's a clear line between each one of them, both in lyrical themes and musical style (not to mention the issue of barely playing any of his previous music on the concerts). However, there's something magical about each of the records that makes you build strong mental associations with each of them, so now, even if I wasn't very fond of his third or fourth albums when they were initially released, I now find myself coming back to them with a strong feeling of nostalgia and awe. I'm glad Ben got to do what he loves without the "weight of the world on his shoulders", and I wish him all the best both as a fan and as a person
I forget where we were is the most underrated album of all time.. so beautiful, deep and haunting. Also the Burgh island Ep. I love his deep music, the next 3 albums didn't do it for me but I have great respect for Ben, he's so talented. ❤
I discovered Ben shortly after his debut was released and saw him live in early 2012 for like…. 20 bucks or so. In the beginning I was a bit weirded out by his change in style, especially after IFWWW, but after all I’m glad he found a way to be creative and free and go his own way and I still love the music he is making. IFWWW is, to this day, one of my personal GOAT albums for me.
Seen him twice now easily my favourite artist of all time love the sounds he creates and doesn’t conform with the typical "Radio" sound. I look up to him in many ways!
I don’t care what they say he made what he wanted. Fuck making the record label happy. You be happy. Find that happiness Ben has gave me some of the best times of my life with his music. Each album has played a big part in my life and I can pin point a women or moment from that song
Thank you for reminding me how much I love Ben's music! It meant so much to me when I was in undergrad, and I'm excited to listen again all these years later as a wife and mom.
You did Ben Howard justice. What a great video! Been a fan since 2013 and I'm glad Ben found his own path. Every album is something new and his talent is just out of this world
What an inspiring person! I remember loving his debut album but totally forgot about it until I stumbled upon a new video of him recently. Very talented musician and a strong and humble human it seems.
What a beautiful video about Ben's biography. I really enjoyed the storytelling, it's dense but you've managed to include all this in under 10 minutes! Good job!
Only love is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. It's like a prayer. I love it so so much. Ben is very talented. I love that he stayed true to what is important to him.
What an utterly unexpected and beautiful little documentary. Thanks. When living in the SW, I would see Ben play small venues and was totally ignorant of the mainstream fame he brushed up against and so wisely devalued. I'm saddened to hear of yet another unexpected blood clotting injury occur since 2020.
Been a fan of Ben Howard since Kingdom. This video is truly amazing, I bet a lot of us had no idea of his story! Thank you so much for making this and expanding our knowledge of this legend. Can't wait for more videos!
This was lovely. I’ve been a huge fan of Ben since before every kingdom, even played his music whilst giving birth to my daughter. Saw him at the Eden project 2015. It was magical. I hugely admire any artist who chooses authenticity and creativity over commercial success. He’ll always have a place for b my heart and be played often in my home.
Thank you for making this video. Ben Howard’s music has saved my life. Because of Ben I have chosen to become an independent poet, after many years of fearing the unknown.
So looking forward to seeing ben when he plays in Brisbane in a couple of months :-) He is exactly the kind of artist I admire most. For all the reasons revealed in this video and more...
Great video! Made me tear up. I have been a fan of Ben since his first album, I matured with his music and it has helped through many tough moments. I hope he is doing better.

A very interesting video, all of which I knew nothing off ! Remember listening to , The end of the affair on later with Jools Holland and instantly loved the raw emotion of it ,although sad. Mr Howard made the right decision to step away from the trappings of the music world when he did as his career may have ended more abruptly! Nice to here his health and music continues ! 🙂
Hes undoubtedly a modern day great. The abilty he has to reinvent his sound with every album while still maintinaing the essence that makes him, him, is brilliant. The latest album is testament to that and for me actually eclipses his previous work. Long may it continue.
Great video man! In my opinion Ben is one of the best current songwriteriters. So underrated. Seen him live this summer in Prague it was life-changing.
Hands down my most listened too artist, i have alot of good memories listening to hes older stuff, was the time i moved to devon also in my early 20s. Hope hes well and he seems to have a really nice family. Keep uo the great work ben, you probably dont know how kuch your songs mean to people.
What a beautiful little piece. Thank you for taking the time to tell such a tender story about an artist I have lost touch with in the past years, but will take great joy in listening to those songs I always loved, and discovering his new album , Is it. It's fantastic to hear about a true artist. One whose seeming pursuit of love, reign true over that base desire over most artists these days. Intent on money and fame only. You are loved, Ben.
"Every Kingdom" was amazing "I forget where we were" was what solidified Ben as one of my favorite artists... I was thoroughly disappointed with "Noonday dream" though I enjoyed a few songs. Went to see him on the Noonday dream tour and he only played that album, the whole crowd seemed upset as well one fan even shouting out "boring!" in the middle of a silence in a song. This prompted Ben to mutter something like "oh to be entertained". It was a good show but I did want to hear at least a couple songs from the previous records. I do applaud Ben for having the strength to do what makes him feel the best even if that means he never plays songs to please anyone but himself. His music shares a special place in my life and I'm glad I got to see him live a couple of times to play some of my favorite songs of his and he is healthy and happy.
I saw him for the first in 2008 while working at the bar of Watt in Rotterdam. Ben played solo as the preshow for Xavier Rudd. When he started, there were maybe max 50 people inside the place. Because of my work at a live venue for years (before at the legendary Nighttown in the same venue in Rotterdam) and going often to live shows and festivals in NL and Belgium, I had already seen a lot of big artists by that time but Ben really blew me away with his solo performance. It was out of another league what he did that day and since then I've been a huge fan, especially of his live music Besides this, I've felt the same Ben describes in End of The Affair and as a single dad living in Portugal, Under The Same Sun became my life song in relation with my daughter
Thanks for the video. I used to listen to Ben's song all the time a few years ago. It's really interesting to learn about the path he choose to followed and the difficulty he faces.

Be well.
Every kingdom saved my life. And for that ben will always have a big place in my heart.
after not listening to him for years, i saw him live in july and it was lifechanging, the way he connected with the crowd and the way we were all in the same wave and it was such a safe place, im so happy my brother showed me his music and convinced me to see him live
It broke me & healed me at the same time
Thanks again Cerberus, means a lot
I really liked I Forget Where We Were and Noonday Dream. I think it's great how he never tries to make the same record twice, and I think it's important to explore darker emotions sometimes.
My friend has been a fan of Ben's for years, and while I didn't mind his music, it never stuck to me. This was until I saw him live at Alexandra Palace earlier this year. The atmosphere with the lights illuminating the field, and the rain constantly pouring down was hypnotising. I've been hooked ever since, and all those songs I almost shrugged off now hit so much deeper.
That concert was immense. Unmatched vibe and felt so connected
I’m still with him all the way,
I am 64y, and I listen to his music daily.
Thank you!
Really good watch cheers fella.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for your comment kier! 💙
End of the affair is my favroute song ever. It reminds me of my childhood when my dad would play it over and over again
I forgot where we were is a masterpiece. It got me through the hardest years of my life. 😊
I forget where we were is the most underrated album of all time.. so beautiful, deep and haunting. Also the Burgh island Ep. I love his deep music, the next 3 albums didn't do it for me but I have great respect for Ben, he's so talented. ❤
I admire Ben's music, each song paints a story full of depth. Each album resonates with certain stages of my life so far.
This video is perfect, so well edited and written!
Thank you so much for making this! Ben is amazing! ❤
Thank you so much! means the world 💙
A true artist in every sense of the word. He is one of the greatest -musician- artist of all time.
Ben is an incredible musician
Ben Howard, and specifically Every Kingdom has changed my life. All of those songs are engraved in my hearth
Seen him twice now easily my favourite artist of all time love the sounds he creates and doesn’t conform with the typical "Radio" sound. I look up to him in many ways!
I don’t care what they say he made what he wanted. Fuck making the record label happy. You be happy. Find that happiness
Ben has gave me some of the best times of my life with his music.
Every album is something new and his talent is just out of this world
Thank you! I'm glad to hear that you think I did Ben justice. I'm a big fan myself!
“I Forget Where We Were” got me through my divorce in 2016. Know every nook and cranny of that album.
It is a complete masterpiece
Keep your head up is one of my favourite songs ever. Even tho it wasn't for me I love that he stayed true to himself I always hope I will
What an inspiring person!
Good job!
Thank you so much!
Only love is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. It's like a prayer. I love it so so much. Ben is very talented. I love that he stayed true to what is important to him.
Please Ben, never stop making music. Please.
Thank you ♥️
Been a fan of Ben Howard since Kingdom. This video is truly amazing, I bet a lot of us had no idea of his story! Thank you so much for making this and expanding our knowledge of this legend. Can't wait for more videos!
Thank you so much! ♥️
He can live off comfortably of the music he really wants to do, what one would want more? That's any real artists dream.
That's great to read!
Means the world, thank you! Great to read Ben's music has been so useful to you.
Wow, I love it. That's what music/art is about. It's even better that he doesn't care much about fame, but it's about the music.
Ben is such a genius and I forget where we were is such a masterpiece
I started having Seizures in my 30’s it destroyed my memory and left me confused and physically beaten, I love Bens works have done from the start he’s and inspiration to me
So sorry to read that. Hope you have or will recover fully from it.
@@withinmotion Just like TIA’s my diagnoses of Juvenile MyoClonic Epilepsy it can get better but it’s really important too keep to a healthy life style otherwise like any illness it will deteriorate, I’m a recovering ❤️🩹 addict I too love writing music and just like Ben I embrace love and am thankful for every day lived happily life on life’s terms 🙏
Love the visual style on this. Thanks for telling this story.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks a lot for your comment..

No matter how many times people hear it that it does not, people STILL think that money and fame will make then happy and is the answer.
You've done such a great job making this video. It's lovely and left me with a sense of needing to follow your own Inner Voice. Cheers!
Thank you so much!
he s inspiration in every way, artistic and human. still, kind and precious. i just would like to be around him as a friend, or mother 😊
his sounds and lirycs are healing me, my soul, my mind, my bein. the world is ok when bens kind keeps going and exists
second album is my favorite of all time. Thanks for staying true to yourself Ben
I adore Ben Howard way to much he's so amazing I'm glad he didn't follow the pop route
I agree!
Always nice to see Ben get some recognition on youtube. Nice vid!
Thank you!
I always admired him and his humbleness. This video is very interesting to learn more about this extraordinary artist!
Thank you! Glad you found it interesting
Ben’s music is such a part of me.
I love It! Superb job. We love Ben. Big thanks from Brazil.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Promise from every kingdom will forever be my favourite song. Such a masterpiece
Thank you! I very much agree.
I was there as well!
Thank you..
But the last two tours he has played lots of old songs, including g from EK. Amazing sets this year.
@@ashwood-qy4sw I know I was just saying in the past he didn’t, good to see he’s playing them again
Wonderful depiction of bens career so far. Brilliant video
Thank you!
His song Black Flies, is amazing.
Such a powerful song
I saw him for the first in 2008 while working at the bar of Watt in Rotterdam. Ben played solo as the preshow for Xavier Rudd. When he started, there were maybe max 50 people inside the place. Because of my work at a live venue for years (before at the legendary Nighttown in the same venue in Rotterdam) and going often to live shows and festivals in NL and Belgium, I had already seen a lot of big artists by that time but Ben really blew me away with his solo performance. It was out of another league what he did that day and since then I've been a huge fan, especially of his live music
Besides this, I've felt the same Ben describes in End of The Affair and as a single dad living in Portugal, Under The Same Sun became my life song in relation with my daughter
Amazing to read.. So cool you've discovered Ben in such an early stage of his carreer.
He could've been huge, stuck to his principles
Outstanding storytelling & editing. Loved it❤
Glad you liked it!!
my absolute favorite artist 🤍
Ben Howard's music seems like a great companion for being on the road a lot like yourself! Thanks for your comment.
Man, I love Ben's music
This is great, Ben is incredible
I love that sound, I had no idea thank you for this video.
Really great video! Learnt some new, interesting and beautiful things about my favourite artist, thank you 🙏
So glad!
Thanks for the video. I used to listen to Ben's song all the time a few years ago. It's really interesting to learn about the path he choose to followed and the difficulty he faces.
Glad to read this :)
Great video! I should listen to Ben Howards discography
Highly recommended! Let me know when you might have some questions about where to start 😊
The song Conrad in the album I Forget Where We Were will always be one of my favorites.
