- This meal is a staple of all my trips. Every time it turns out awesome. @MaddyTheGoose thanks for the inspiration for this reciepie. I have taken it every trip since seeing your video. It is super consistent, filling, and tastes awesome out in the woods #dehydratedfood #dehydrate #dehydrated #backpackingfood #backcountry #campfood #canoecamping #lake #tobeatic #tobeaticwilderness #tobeaticwildernessarea #keji #campingfood #outdoors #wildernesscooking #backpaking #portage #wildernesscamping #wilderness #dehydratedmeals #backcountrycuisine #shepherdspie #cottagepie
Looked great
Thanks! It was great, and always seems to turn out great! Thanks for watching!
don't forget the pine needles!
Always. Thankfully they are available in abundance!
Looks like a great easy meal, I wonder if I could add a few dehydrated onions, or would that be crazy?
You could add whatever you like to it. I often add onions to various meals as I pove the flavor
I couldn't find pine needles can I use twigs instead?
Anything extra to make it good!
U got a predator lurking in the trees
A predator? Do tell!
When you use beef it's actually a cottage pie not a Shepard's pie , a traditional Shepard's pie is made with lambs mince
Yes, I mention that in the video and in various other replies to comments here. Everyone here calls this "Shepherd's Pie", and basically very few people have ever even heard of cottage pie. Thanks for the comment!
That looks really good but I hate doing dishes when camping so I make everything the Freezer Bag Way. The bag from the 1st meal of the day turns into garbage bag for all the others. No pot to clean and licking the spoon cleans it. For freezer dried ( dehydrated ) items all the vegetables I get from Harmony House Foods. For fat it is ghee ( Clarified Butter ) which does not spoil since the milk impurities have been removed. Meats are dried here at the house. Each bag is marked with the necessary amount of water and it is brought to a almost boil before adding it to the meal.
I have seen that method a few times. I have tried it a couple of times, but it hasn't turned out well, and you can taste the plastic bag in my opinion. Dishes can be a pain, but my meals are so good and so filling, you look forward to supper time all day when you are out in the woods.. But they do require a lot of dishes... I would love to for you to share some of your recepies @Oldsparkey!
That's cottage pie
Correct, which is what I said in the packaging section of the video for those who want to be accurate on their terminology. Around here it is called Shepherd's Pie. I am sure you could make it with lamb. Thanks for commenting!
*cottage pie
Yeah I know I know. Substitute in some ground lamb for the ground beef and you'll be all set. Everyone where I live calls this shepherd's pie but I know technically it isn't
