Excellent! I discovered this years ago studying artist-composers like Vangelis and David Foster. I haven't heard anyone else say it, but I sensed that it was a common enough technique. I call the common element from one chord to the next the "pivot note". It's basically a circle of fifths with a dynamic tonality. Even if you move a third instead of a fifth it counts as a replacement chord for the fifth. Throw in sevenths by altering the inversion via the bass note and you can formulate a movement to almost anywhere and have it sound good, interesting, and unique.
I have never seen anyone do this before. Very cool sounding cord movements. I am going to mess around with it on my bass and see what I come up with. Thanks
Thanks, Michael ... Love your explanation with just triads, will have to apply this with 9's, 11ths, 13th's and sus chords - great approach, look forward to more videos #Bottom40CD
