My comment is super late, but I needed to give you praise on this film, because holy shit! I've watched a LOT of found footage horror, but almost none threw me for a loop as much as this one. Despite knowing it's fake, I kind of _did_ start to wonder part way through if it was a real documentary or not. Absolutely fantastic, and I really look forward to what you work on in the future!!
I absolutely loved this movie, I came upon Stuckmans review and I’ve been recommending it since. Awesome job Erik and I hope to see similar movies from you in the near future
Me and a roommate just watched it tonight and were pleasantly surprised. For something neither of us had previously heard of, which appears to be rather low-budget, we both found it quite engaging on multiple levels. It's probably worth mentioning that there's very little in the way of jump scares or gore. It's not trying to be The Ring. In fact, it's quite meta in the sense that it's about a lot more than a creepy local legend. There's a great deal of humanity throughout the film, and I really appreciated it for that.
Just finished watching this on a whim, didn't see a trailer beforehand, just read the little synopsis. I was so pleasantly surprised! I just thought it was gonna be a typical found footage story, which seemed cool on it's own, but the subtle ways this story changes direction was fantastic. I really really enjoyed it, and I think it should go down as one of the FF greats.
Spoiler, I guess? Really just questioning the logic of the film. So unless I missed something, why would blinkman go after others? It was the camera who “saw” him so technically the camera was the eyes, as they proclaimed. I guess it’d be pretty silly if he was going to take out the camera since it wouldn’t be a victim anyone would miss, but it just bothered me. What I’m getting at is that if he goes after who did the dare then he should’ve only attacked the camera by technicality, but of course there wouldn’t be a film if that were the case 😂
Really enjoyed this one, I randomly stumbled upon it & entered into it as a "blind watch" & was very satisfied & pleasantly surprised. Another countless movie that we are agreed upon Jason.
John Boyd Did you like “You Might Be the Killer?” I watched it last night and loved the concept, but felt like they didn’t do enough with it. But I was tired so I may have just been in a bad mood 😂
Just finished the film on prime video. I loved it. Wish they showed his entire face. The character reminds of the evil entity in the movie “The Babadook”, who also reminds me a bit of Slenderman.
Just watched butterfly kisses and I really enjoyed it and I did see similarities to slender man but I loved the way they put the story together thanks for the review and the suggestion to watch it
Greetings from the future! Just wanted to let everyone know that this movie is now available on Tubi for free! It does have the occasional ad break, but if you're on a tight budget, this is a great way to legally check out the movie! Oh, and just a heads up to those watching this video around the time it was posted, 2020 is gonna SUCK. You should start stocking up on hand sanitizer.
I couldn't help but compare Butterfly Kisses to Digging up the Marrow. (Digging up the Marrow is also a found footage type faux documentary.) When it came to which one felt more "real", I would say Digging up the Marrow was better acted. The script felt natural, and sometimes felt improved. For what was creepier/scarier I would say Butterfly Kisses is better. It really hit those fears that people naturally have, things we may brush off as paranoid or just a wild imagination. Endings, Digging up the Marrow has a much more open ending which I'm not fond of, and Butterfly kisses was more rounded. Although there was a few unanswered questions, but no movie is perfect I guess. When it comes to re-watchability, I would say I would re-watch Digging up the Marrow, and not Butterfly Kisses. I had more fun watching DutM, and BK doesn't seem to warrant a 2nd watch. Butterfly Kisses was an okay watch, imo.

Got to strongly disagree with you on having to be a found footage fan to enjoy this. I don't think it's fair to circumscribe this into such a specific sub-genre. It's an effective film, period, whether someone is looking for found footage, horror, thriller or drama. this sounds really good, if i was facing that tunnel in the film without my eye drops itd be over quicker than a cheap jump scare.
