The game really did Leon dirty, he had so much potential of being a great character and even a survivor and they just killed him off cause they were tired of looking at him, it’s a shame.
I feel like him and Hiro should have switched places. And instead of simply having the one note he doesn't like baseball and wants to be in a band. He should be the character who is so out of it he kind of doesn't care and when they stuff him in the suit hes just super annoyed insted of frickin confused like Hero. His derailing of the controversial could be getting help from Makoto scince they have the same taste in music, or how poised off he is that monokuma won't let him finish his hot dog or smth.

I swear to god the only reason that Yasuhiro survived was that the writers had no idea what to do with him so he just ended up blundering his way through to the end. I don't exactly hate him but I wouldn't be too upset if he kicked the bucket either.
I still wish he had died instead of Taka. I mean I still enjoy Hiro’s goofiness but I think Taka’s arc being continued instead and having him react to the later events of the story would have been so much more interesting. It’s not like the game didn’t have enough people who bring up stupid questions in the trial (Hina and Toko)
@@jordandwiggins1026 same ! i feel like the in future arc he does almost nothing but nearly get himself killed (from what i remember at least), it seemed like he was just thrown in just to be there. i feel like taka would've been so much more useful in to the future foundation too. idk, it feels like hiro was just there to be comic relief and not much other thought was put into him.
I actually like him cuz i feel like he's me in that situation, pretty much useless but somehow he survives, so he's actually the most average student, my statements is dumb i know but I still like him
fun fact about kokichi: he’s actually a very emotional person, so whenever hes being emotional and immediatly says he lied about it, he actually lied about lying about his emotions. he purposfully tries to bottle his emotions in and whenever he accidentally lets them out he convinces everyone that he was faking it. not every emotional outbreak he had was real, but a good chunk of them were genuine, the best examples being the ends of chapter 4 and 5
I think the SUPER exaggerated ones like when he has that sprite with an insane amount of tears are fake, but the more pulled-back and realistic ones like you said (end of trials 4 and 5) were genuine.

It’s kinda scary how similar this ranking is to mine aside from Hajime lmao. He’s definitely a character that grows on you the longer you think about it.
For Sayaka as she was the first person to try in the first game, the whole class trial thing was never explained. She only thought she had to get away with it, she never thought anyone else would die.
I disagree with a lot of these on the list but the placement for Hajime in my opinion could have been higher considering how he's the only protagonist who isn't overly polite or shy and his backstory is much more tragic than any other character in many aspects. He's also the most relatable character in the series, considering that everyone wants to know they are good enough but knowing you'll never be able to be proud of who you are is a very bad feeling. I disagree with the placement for Kiyo too but it's a pretty good list. Keep up the good work!
Even tho my favourite protagonist is Shuichi, I have to agree that the best protagonist has to be Hajime but as for the backstory part, idk who has it rougher, Hajime or Shuichi. But its my personal opinion, so its oke if u disagree but please don't come at me :")
@@origamimiii That's valid! Though the reason I didn't mention Shuichi's backstory is because we don't have any confirmed ideas of what it could be. If Tsumugi was telling the truth then his backstory would be completely unknown. But if not, then we'd still need more detail on what it was like.
I always quite liked Mahiru honestly, sure she can be a hypocrite but her sweet/caring yet no bullshit personality, death (she died because she rejected Monokuma's idea that killing someone in revenge is somehow right) and free time events really made me appreciate her character and she died too soon.
Jk, I respect your opinion, but, (i could’ve read the comment wrong) Why do you hate those 3 but not Junko? Mukuro/Mikan/ And kind of Nagito were all manipulated by Junko Enoshima. Mukuro had to deal with Junko for her whole life. She (junko) convinced her to think badly of herself and Mukuro thought of her self as fat, ugly, stupid, and worthless as a result. Honestly, she just wanted to help her sister. Mikan was also tricked, Junko pretended to be the only person to care for her, Yes, It was on Tsumiki’s conscience to kill both Ibuki and Hiyoko, but mostly because of Junko.. Nagito was a remnant of despair, so I included him in this. In Despair Arc, all students were inspired by Junko in a different way, but based on manipulation. So, I personally still like Enoshima, I think she is an interesting character, but she was an extremely bad person. I personally think you shouldn’t hate on characters without looking at the reason for them ending up like that.
My favorite character is Fuyuhiko, because I absolutely adored his character development and design. You know, being so short and so cute but having a title like "Ultimate Yakuza"? Awesome. I also relate to him more than I can ever put into words.
Yeah, eyepatch Fuyuhiko is awesome. I'm glad he was allowed to get character development (unlike Hiyoko) and go from a low tier character to an A rank.
Same! He's a very well-rounded character and has a great backstory. Honestly, I remember not liking him much at first but halfway through the first trial and right when things heated up around the second, I really started to warm up to him.
I don’t think Hifumi gets as much credit as deserves. His actions throughout chapter 3 are enough for me to really like his character. The main reason Hifumi helped Celeste with the murder was because Celeste had told Hifumi that Taka did.......unpleasant things to her, whilst using alter ego as fuel to the fire. Speaking of Alter Ego, the reason why Hifumi was so obsessed with him was, yes the 2D thing, but also because he finally had someone to talk to and share his stories with that would actually listen to him. Is he a perfect character, no he’s still pervy and weird at times, but he’s not just a pervert. Also he went out like the mad lad that he his.
His motive made me hate him even more. He believed the Ultimate Gambler who is a master at lying and believed the Ultimate Moral Compass was beating a girl. Also murdering someone for a computer is wack. His stupidity offended me.
@@tiandi5585 this may be a little late but all the points you made are valid reasons on why he murdered. You contradicted yourself by saying he’s dumb for believing someone who is a master at lying. That’s the thing is that she’s really good at lying so it makes sense. Also taka was going through a pretty drastic personality change at the time so him believing that he did something like that also makes sense because he definitely wasn’t being his usual self.

Chihiro didn't present as a girl because he genuinely identified as one. It was because he was scared of being bullied. There are some people who think he's a legit trans character and to me it just seems really obvious that he isn't. He *wanted* to be recognized and respected as a boy. The whole message of his character is that the idea of manhood shouldn't be limited to guys who look and act like Mondo. Continuing to call him a girl undermines that message.

The only reason he didn't present as a boy was because he was afraid of how he would be treated being small and meek. He presented as a girl because it was safer for him, not because he actually felt it.

tw: child ab*se, sexual ab*se ok so im not arguing with ypur ranking at all, but i just wanted to bring something up! theres a quite popular fan theory out there that korekiyo was actually a victim of csa (child sexual abuse) and was abused by his sister. as a survivor of csa myself and someone who studies phsycology, this theory explains almost all of his behaviors. an older sister, who mightve been adult or near adult age, engaging in romantic and sexual relations with her younger brother? that sounds very much like abuse. also, theres no mention of parents anywhere, so the sister could have molded korekiyo in whatever way she wanted, and it seemed dhe succeeded. korekiyo barely has an identity of his own, everything that he is was just made by his sister. and also, the way that his sisters... spirit (?) acts seems very controling, and how korekiyo chants along with her "apologize" seems almost like he was told that by her a lot. basically his sister sounds very gaslighty and like she always blamed him for stuff this absolutely doesnt excuse korekiyo being a serial killer, but i just believe it gives some much needed insight on his character
I think what he’s saying is the developers could’ve done something to kiyo that actually relates to his talent and make him more interesting and likable but instead they just give his sister credit for everything he did, it’s almost as if his entire character is solely based off his sister which’s disappointing because kiyo has so much potential, nice comment though really serves justice for his character
Im glad Gonta is kinda high on this list, This was one of the cases i was truly heartbroken over as it slowly progressed as kokichi made us clear each person one by one until it could only be Gonta. It was especially unique considering Gonta himself didnt even remember if he was the killer or not just making it that much harder to convince the others he did it.
@@sven9404 Full-on disagree. He's genuinely trying to help people and despite his flaws, he's always trying his best, and often gets frustrated because he believes he isn't good enough. I wouldn't call that boring. And besides, I would much rather have a boring, kind-hearted character than an interesting, dickish one, unless they have something that can back them up. That's why I hated Nagito and on a lesser extent Kokichi. Though to be fair, I didn't like Ibuki 'cause I found her boring, but you just didn't get to know her much even from her FTEs besides "Yo, I'm a screamer musician girl."
What’s really interesting is that in Chapter 4 of Trigger Happy Havoc, Hiro said that he predicted that there would be no more murders, and he was actually right. Sakura committed suicide, there was no real murder in Chapter 5, and Junko executed herself. Hiro finally hit that 30% prediction.
People only like him because he's cute though, I'm more disappointed about Hifumi being above Hiyoko. Hiyoko did not deserve this sad treatment. People are like "Oh She'S Too MEan." But that is like judging a book by its cover. Hiyoko deserved more.
It's cause he is not much of a character and more of a plot development, you can literally fill in his character with a piece of paper saying there was a previous killing game
Kiyo is the embodiment of missed opportunities, just like the case he's convicted in, AKA, the worst one aside from the second game's Trial 3. I gotta get these two out of the way: most mystery games seem to suffer from 3rd Trial Syndrome where the 3rd time isn't the charm for once. Why is that? I'm not sure. It's probably because the midgame trial doesn't seem to know what to do with itself... except for the first DR Trial 3. Despite also being mostly filler with a weak motive, it is filled with some of THE best rants in the series. But whereas 2-3 makes no sense with Mikan able to teleport and snapping due to a spontaneous disease, 3-3 could have added some tension by having someone else kill one of the students and keeping one of the murderers alive. That woulda been interesting, but it plays it too safe.
Agree. The "100 friends" thing is just lazy writing and so is the disease in 2. Kinda bummed that Kiyo, my favorite character in the series, was treated like that while he had so much potential.
I will never understand how people think the 3rd case gets worse for each game. The first game literally has the culprit known so obvious at the start and the only good thing is the culprit only in the end of the trial, not the start and middle, because that character was done dirty of how obvious it was. D2 wasn't that obvious at the start and the disease actually had a reason and the motive of the killer was more than just being pyscho, that whole case it's big foreshadowing, a good one. V3 wasn't obvious, it was more complicated and the culprit was a decent character from the start. The only bad thing is the wasted potential, but that potential didn't make sense with the game's purpose. I think it's nostalgia what wins? xD
I was agreeing with everything. Until Keebo appears. He is one of the purest characters, he tries a lot to help (especially using himself as a experiment object for Miu). And there is the whole plot twist in the end about him being the eyes of the spectators.
I was pretty disappointed that you wouldn't cover the ultimate imposter, but I finished the video and I have to say, great video! I could really see the effort you put in this video, and it was definitely worth 90 minutes of my time. Keep up the great work!

Believe me when I say I was really on the fence for a while as to whether or not he and Mukuro should have made the cut but because the bulk of their character come from the anime, it felt like it would have been too much of a struggle to talk about him and keep to the guidelines I set myself. I do think he is an fascinating character though.
Say what you will about them both, but at least Hiyoko developed a little bit before her death. We never get to see Mikan standing up for herself or changing before her execution. Additionally, both are meant to be foils of each other, showing the difference between internalized & externalized trauma. I'm not saying you have to like Hiyoko more than Mikan, or at all, but at least understand she did try to change before the game said 'Nope!' & had so much potiental, dare I say, having the ability to have growth on levels of Fuyuhiko & Toko's, meanwhile others didn't even get to make the effort. Give her some credit where it is due.

It's because of his stupid crush on Sonia, it's so annoying whenever he talks about her. If he didnt have that crush, he would be a much better character.
As an Ishimaru fan, I honestly understand his placement. I definitely would’ve put him way higher, because I’m biased, but his death felt so sudden to me. His character would’ve made such a good survivor if he had a chance to develop as a character, it’s a big waste of opportunity. The way he went didn’t do him much of a favor, either.
They didn’t focus on his death like at all and it really makes me sad. I feel as though every other person who died, murder or execution, got way more remorse than Ishimaru. It didn’t make it seem like he had any impact because nobody cared. It saddens me, he’s in my top three characters in THH and one of my favorites out of the whole series
Byakuya at number two? You my man know what's up. I loved that asshole from minute one, but his reaction to Junko's attempt to try to drag him to despair cemented him as maybe my absolute favor. "The Togami family isn't dead, because I'm still alive." Killer line.

I think it's entirely possible that Nagito could have the Ultimate Analyst talent, considering the fact that he picks things up faster than the majority of the protagonists; his speed of wit could match Kyoko's.
Yeah, no Most of the time, nagito’s plan and ideas are usually successful mostly because of his talent rather than his intellect Most of the time nagito does stuff off of a whim and his talent makes sure he Dosen’t fail. If nagito wasn’t the ultimate lucky student, he woulda been embarrassing himself a lot of times. And I don’t think nagito is extremely smart.....His classmates are just really REALLY dumb, he looks like a genius in comparison

But yeah, just as the other guy said, Nagito's plans mostly revolve around his luck because his luck is predictable unlike Makoto which is simultaneously the worst and best luck in the series.
I feel like none of these students are the worst student. They all have pretty understandable reasons for why they act and such (I mean, except for Junko and Kokichi and some other crazy students I guess but I do understand why people still like these characters).
even kiyo had reasons, pretty much all of the students have reasons except junko because the whole point of junko’s character is that there IS no reason

I honestly thought everyone hated Himiko and I felt really sad but RUclips has been showing me that people do enjoy Himiko's character and that I don't have to feel scared to love her character :D
When the story chooses to focus on her she is great. I think V3 chapter 3 is one of the more underrated ones due to the dynamic between her Angie, and Tenko alone.
you should never feel scared about liking a character most people don't. my favorite character in the whole franchise is makoto, and i'm not about to lose sleep over most people thinking he's the most boring protag.
Why do I actually like some of the hated characters like Hiyoko, Teruteru, Korekiyo, Yasuhiro, Angie, etc. Does anyone else like them or am I just weird?
Kaito is my favorite, and I definitely would place him at #1, but I was happy to see him so high on the list, I know he’s not everyone’s favorite, so seeing him up there in the top 10 made my night.
As much as we want to fight back, Kaito is kinda like Hiro but he gets a lot more development and thus we end up liking him a lot. He's so stupid and stubborn sometimes it gets annoying. Even though I like Kaito a lot, his stubbornness after Gonta's death is just stupid, he was being completely illogical towards Shuichi or even Kokichi. Let's call him Hiro done right then

Kaito understands people instantly, and literally passed the astronaut exam with no trouble, he cant be stupid. If stubbornness and stupidity are the same thing, I must be incredibly idiotic. Of course Kaito would be illogical after Gonta’s death, he doesn’t want to believe someone who has literally been dogging them the whole time isn’t the killer, Gonta is gentle, and kind, Kokichi is not so much. After the trial, he runs because he feels guilty, and doesn’t know how to apologize, not because he’s mad, if you didn’t know. That’s why he tries to apologize with the escape plan, which doesn’t work so well, so he gives Shuichi a direct apology. Kaito is not stupid, I can’t imagine Shuichi acting out Kokichi and Adlibbing lines. Kaito is incredibly smart, and he’s so sweet. The Hero doesn’t give up on his friends, his hero complex might make some things seem illogical, but having absolute faith in everyone is a good thing. Kaito and Hiro are not that alike. Yasuhiro is typically a little dumb, and obviously doesn’t think before he speaks ever. Kaito, on the other hand, thinks with his heart most of the time.

Teruteru was FAR too high, but other than that I definitely respect this list! What a well done video! My top three is Chihiro, Byakuya, and Nagito in that order, so I was quite pleased with your overall rankings 😁
hiyoko deserved better. she bullied mikan and kazuichi because they were the "weakest" and she wanted to look tougher. in her childhood she literally said that people put tacks in her shoes and forced her to dance, so that's why she wanted to look tough in front of everybody. she was originally supposed to be a survivor, while fuyohiko died, but that meant pekos sacrifice was useless. but what about mahirus sacrifice?? in chapter 2, when mahiru died, she literally saw the body and started to run away, crying, prooving that she actually cared for mahiru. personally, i think sonia should've died. shes practically useless besides for a love triangle. instead of hiyoko going out for the mirror, sonia should have because remember hiyoko didnt want to get the despair diease. meaning she asked sonia to go out to get it, but when sonia did, she dies. she could have had SO MUCH character development. SOOO MUCH but she had to die.
aw man i was agreeing so much until you said sonia should’ve died instead :( sonia and hiyoko are my favourite SDR2 characters, they’re both equally great to me. if anything, I think kazuichi should’ve been the sacrifice. I like him but he had very little development throughout the game and his jokes were sometimes kinda weird ..plus he doesn’t really have survivor energy anyway.

I get this, I really do, but Mahiru didn't sacrifice herself. She died trying to right wrongs yes, but she didn't sacrifice herself for anyone. Peko's death was a sacrifice becuase she literally died trying to save Fuyohiko. That and I shouldn't have to go through ALL of Hiyoko's free time events for me to see she isn't the worst person in existence (poor Mikan, I mean she definitely isn't my favorite but the girl was tortured by her) XD As for Sonia dying instead, I'm not against the idea but I think if she did die Souda would have had to die as well and that would end up being more deaths then they wanted for sure.
Omg this gives me motivation for me to do my character list as well! I disagreed with plenty of the character placements, but your descriptions of them made it clear of what you thought of them, and some even sent chills up my spine for how it reminded me the things that make these characters great
yeah thats what themot people see, but he actually is a rly deep character and very interesting. Also his speech obviously wasnt just to impress sonja and he has done a lotmore good things like making the Nekomaru doll
Gundham's execution kinda uh made me cry the most of anything in danganronpa particularly his final goodbye to the 4 dark devas the only things that maybe made me cry more were "kaito" and kaito
I must heavily disagree with Byakuya, namely because he was so full of himself that he willfully sabotaged a murder just to prove a point of his. Whenever he ended up arguing, I always ended up asking myself, "This guy damn near got everyone else killed, why are we listening to this pompous airbag?"
I'm not defending Byakuya, but if they were close to dying in the second class trial, he could have just revealed that Mondo was the killer since Byakuya saw what he did. Also Byakuya got some development at the end of the game.
@@sunsetskye483 doubt it, but with Kyoko and Makoto in the game, they'd find a way to agree with him, since as we saw Makoto noticed the obvious framing of Genocider Syo and Kyoko having her suspicions about Mondo from the start- they'd have no choice but to believe him when the people who carry the class trials alongside Byakuya confront the evidence of the situation. In conclusion, no matter the outcome of that class trial, Mondo would be executed.

I used to love mahiru but the fact that she helped sato get away with murder but when fuyuhiko killed her she scolded him like he killed an innocent person is honestly what made me have mixed feeling for her (mostly hate for how hypocritical that was)
@@anobody2931 I get what you mean, but the Mahiru that scolded him was the virtual reality one- the one that didn't have the memories of Sato killing Fuyuhiko's sister. Even though she played Twilight Syndrome Murder Case, there's a disconnect from seeing what happened, to experiencing (or physically remembering) what happened. If she had her memories and was in the same situation she wouldn't have felt the same way I feel.

As flawed as Kiyo is, I think he is greatly misunderstood due to his abusive relationship with his older sister. I honestly really enjoy him as a character. I am surprised that Tenko was so high up on the list, and above Ibuki! In any case, great video 👍
This is a very well thought out list. You clearly did your research and came to great conclusions. I feel like many fans are too blind to see that their faves aren’t as godly as they think they are. Thank you for giving Byakuya the credit he deserves. He has an amazing character arc and its sad that people dont pay attention to him as much as kokichi and komaeda. Well done 10/10
I'm currently watching my fiancé play Danganronpa for the first time. He's just finished the first trial of the first game and absolutely hates Byakuya. I can't wait to see his reactions to Byakya's character arc, especially the 2nd and 4th trials.
While I completely disagree with most of this list, I understand it's opinion based so I can't just say you're objectively wrong. Either way, a lot of work went into this so keep it up.

I agree. I really wish he'd gotten more development because personally he's my favorite character, and I can relate quite a bit to him when you dig into the free time events. I would have liked to see what he could have become over a character like Hiro. But I'm torn at the same time because I really like the dilemma in his motive. It's highly unlikely that anyone would have believed him over Sayaka seeing that he was completely uninjured and she had a broken wrist, and since he was the one that had come to her it would have been very easy to twist the story and claim that he attacked her first. Especially with the sob story she already had given to Makoto the previous evening. Not saying what he did was right, mans still should have left well enough alone. But I can see the why behind his actions, being in the high pressure situation of someone having just tried to kill you on top of the situation you're already in, trapped in a high school and told to kill or be killed. I like that his predicament makes you think about morality in more of a gray spectrum rather than a black and white textbook right and wrong. I'm also torn because his execution is still my favorite in the entire series to this day, and I think it really set the stage and tone for the rest of the games. While you could argue that other executions have more brutality and are better carried out, there's just something about Leon's execution that really sets it apart from the others for me. I also really love his character design, his reoccurrence in the overall story, and maybe a bit morbid of me to say, but this mans was literally the FIRST blackened in entire series, and that's just kinda cool to me. Overall I personally think he's got enough appeal to be higher up on the list than some of the other characters. But that's just my opinion. ^-^ I can see where everyone is coming from and simply choose to respectfully disagree.

I love fuyuhiko so much. He actually secretly a kind and nice guy especially to peko he care for her deeply and wanted for her to not see herself as a to. After she passed he was nicer and realized he loved by menu and he not hated
Personally I disagree with Hiyoko being last, (my opinion so please don’t get mad) after Mahiru’s death, she actually tried to be better by making a funeral or memorial if some sort for Mahiru. It was obvious she was trying to change. But since she died later we didn’t get to see her change as much as she could. I still agree with her being on the bottom half of the list though. But it’s your opinion so if you disagree I understand.
Hifumi didn't just kill over an AI! 1.He killed because Celeste was "sexually abused" by Taka and he wanted revenge 2.He was told that Taka was going to kill him 3.It was a foolproof plan untill Celeste fucking betrayed him
Hifumi literally said out loud to Celeste that he was going to kill taka even before she said anything about her murder plan; thinking murder before reasoning or telling the rest of the group about it says a lot.

@@nobgs4505I do believe hifumi was manipulated but his reason for killing taka was 100% selfish IMO and had little to do with the claims celeste brought on taka. Like Leo said earlier, Hifumi had already wanted to kill taka solely because he thought he took alter ego. He was just given a “justification” to carry out such acts by Celeste. Hifumi being 100% fine with the plan of him and celeste killing two different people one of which being completely innocent and not implicated in the alter ego drama just so he could get the attention of a computer.
Choices for what hifumi could do when he hears a classmate is going to kill him + threatened someone else A: Hide out during the night in your room then tell others about what you heard the next morning in case you get hurt B: Console the person and propose a way to mutually protect eachother so nobody can hurt either of them without being caught. C: Believe the person but refuse to commit a murder that will put everyone else’s lives at risk D: Get used by the person who’s called you a pig and is proclaimed “the queen of lies” to murder someone for an action you can’t even confirm they did, actively framing an innocent person as the “real killer” while being completely fine with your accomplice murdering another random classmate then getting killed by the person you worked with.
It’s funny how 50/50 my list is. A lot of high ranking characters for you are mid tier at best for me and a lot of lower characters for you are more upper rankings for me. Nice opinions! Also thank you for giving Ryoma the love he deserves
My favourites are Makoto, Byakuya and Kyoko. So I'm actually a pretty satisfied fan, surprisingly. Most peoples brush off the first game's characters in favour of the more eccentric and colorful characters that would come after, so I'm happy to see all this !

My thoughts on your picks 47: Ugh she got on my nerves so bad she’s not even funny with her quips. It’s a shame she never got a redemption arc though. 46: The second biggest perv in the series and is nothing but a walking reference machine and not even a good one like Futaba from Persona 5. 45: Worst mastermind in the entire series and a boring character as well. 44: The creepiest character in the series by far but his motivation for murder was so off the wall that it made him a memorable character also Sweet Home Alabama. 43: Dies really early so I don’t have much to say about him although I did like his dream of becoming a musician. 42: Weed Man is by far the stupidest character in the series and he’s such an asshole as well. 41: As a chef and a mama’s boy I can relate to this guy but he’s such a pervert that he makes me cringe sometimes. 40: The most mysterious character in the series but also one of the most overrated in my opinion. His talent was not anything special either. 39: The Ultimate Feminist aside from Tenko but she’s just really annoying to me unlike Tenko who is over the top and funny. 38: Not a bad character not a great character either just a meh character overall although his interactions with Kokichi were one of the highlights of V3. 37: The horniest character in the whole series but also a really funny character as well and again her interactions with Kokichi and Keebo bring out the best of her. 36: Eh I guess she’s fine overall. I kind of liked her because she reminded me of Lady Maria from Bloodborne but her motivation for murder was very honorable. Even if it was fake. 35: The Ultimate Simp of the series but overall he’s very enjoyable to watch and he seemed like such a bro to the protagonist. 34: It’s a shame that this character is just comedic relief instead of getting actual character development before her untimely demise in the second worst case in the entire series. 33: I liked Taka a lot in my first playthrough he seemed like such a nice guy and his relationship with Mondo was one of the best parts of DR 1 32: Sayaka is very hard for me to analyze because all we know about her is her pop career and her selfish actions in the first chapter so I really don’t know what to say. 31: Like Peko said she is a tool a tool for Fuyuhiko’s character development a necessary tool but not really an interesting character also Maki did her character better. 30: Ibuki is by far the best comedic relief character in the series for me. It’s shame she died in the worst case in the whole series. 29: Tenko is the femenazi character done right unlike Mahiru she’s over the top and funny and sadly an underrated character in the fan base. 28: Oh boy the most overrated character in the entire series although I do understand why she is important to the story and her death in the anime was way more heart wrenching to watch then the game. 27: I really like this character but dear god was she ruined in the third chapter in the worst way possible. Also Hiyoko’s verbal abuse to Mikan is why I hate her. 26: Gundham and Sonia are better than Sonia by herself. Although she does have some of the best lines in the entire series my personal favorite being “ Jesus Shit You Son Of A Bitch!!” 25: I really liked Hajime’s arc throughout DR 2 but I feel like he was the worst of the three main protagonists. Although his Izuru Kamakura personality was a really interesting twist. 24: Another severely overrated character in my opinion but just because he’s overrated doesn’t mean I think he’s a bad character. He has one of the most relatable arcs in the entire series and by far one of the most heartbreaking deaths in the series. 23: Man Celeste is so underrated in the community. She’s such an interesting character in my opinion and her manipulative nature is very entertaining to watch. Also she played Hifumi and Taka like a fiddle. 22: I really don’t like this character at all and in my opinion should have been the replacement for Taka’s death in chapter 3 21: The second best protagonist in the series although I think he has one of the best arc’s in the whole series He starts out being very naive and being easily manipulated to being a strong powerful character in the end. 20: Wow this is the one I most disagree with. Akane has absolutely no character development and is the weakest member of the cast of DR 2 in my opinion. 19: I really liked Mondo’s arc in the first game and his relationship with Taka was one of the highlights of the series to me. I also think he was one of the most honorable characters overall. 18: One of the most underrated characters of V3. I really sympathized with with Ryoma and his ending was really heart wrenching. 17: Haven’t Played UDG entirely so I have nothing to say about her. 16: The best protagonist of the whole series in my opinion. His relationship with Kaede was one the highlights of V3 and in my opinion is one of the smartest characters in the series and the only logical person to solve the mysteries of the game unlike Makoto and Hajime who needed help. 15: 3rd favorite character in the whole series. I love this little shit and I love that you never really know what Kokichi’s deal is throughout the entirety of V3. Also he has the best voice acting of the entire series in my opinion. 14: The sweetest and kindhearted character in the entire series in my opinion. He just wants everyone to be happy and his death is so heart wrenching to watch especially because he has no idea of what he has done. 13: Junko is by far one of my favorite villains of all time along with Akechi and her motivations are some of the most disturbing things I have ever seen in my life. Also she played Monokuma perfectly in my opinion. 12: unlike Teruteru and Leon you got to know this character and the fake out protagonist twist is by far my favorite in V3. 11: MY FAVORITE CHARACTER IN THE WHOLE SERIES. I love this dude and his over the top behavior is hilarious to watch but unlike Ibuki he actually had some character development and his relationship with Sonia was adorable. He was also very honorable as a human being. 10: Himiko is kind of Eh for me but that’s just showing how good V3’s cast was when a good character like Himiko is in my bottom 5 of that game. 9: I really liked Nekomaru because he seemed like such a motivator to the whole cast of DR 2. His sacrifice was also the best part of chapter 3 in my opinion 8: Maki is one of the most interesting characters in my opinion her occupation as an assassin added some depth to her character and her relationship with Katio was my favorite part of V3. 7: Oof Sakura’s arc was such a gut punch in DR 1 and the fact she had to work for Junko and felt guilty about it causing her classmates to turn on her ending in her suicide was really hard to watch. 6: Kaito was my second favorite character of V3 behind Kokichi and he was the only character who really felt like a friend to the protagonist. Also the plan that Kaito and Kokichi came up with was the best murder plan in the entire series leading to my favorite trial of the entire series. 5: I think Toko is one of the most interesting characters in the whole series from her awful childhood to her split personality with Genocide Jill to her hilarious feelings toward Togami she’s one of the most likeable characters in the entire series in my opinion. 4: Fuyuhiko has the best character development in the entire series. He starts out as an asshole that hates everyone to being an honorable leader and his past with Peko and his sister is great as well. 3: My second favorite character in the entire series I love Nagito’s point of view and his views on hope and despair and his insanity makes his character really shine and he is also the most unpredictable character in the entire series. 2: Wow I wasn’t expecting Byakuya to be this high on this list. I personally don’t like Byakuya that much and is the only asshole character that kind of got on my nerves. Although his respect for Makoto and Kyoko gives him some points. 1: Kyoko is in my top 5 due to her past family issues her intelligence and her quest to find the truth she is very much like Yu Narukami from Persona 4. Although I wouldn’t say she is the best character in the series she is one of the all time greats. Also this analysis is the best Danganronpa analysis I have ever seen you made me realize more about these characters that I didn’t figure out for myself. Congrats you earned yourself a subscriber.

In my opinion kokichi should of been higher because he is just so well written, how can a character be so hated yet also be the most popular character in the whole series.
Chihiro's gender IS clear. He wanted to tell everyone, which is what caused Mondo to accidentally lash out. Alter Ego, created by Chihiro, also refers to him as "he" and "father". Why would he make an AI that misgenders him? Nanami also refers to him as father. Chihiro is a crossdresser who didn't want to be bullied for being weak anymore. Calling him "her" is the opposite of his final wish.
Nekomaru Will always be high on my list. His constant intensity and intoxicating personality is something I need in my life. We all need a friend like nekomaru. Especially so if that friend can dispense soft drinks from their eyes as well
It might seem crazy but Leon is my favorite character in the whole series. It sucks that he was killed off first (I will admit it led to a good first trial though) I just feel like Leon is a character that would be way more loved by the community if he just made it farther and fit character development. It really just sucks
I really like him too just because of the brutality of his breakdown in chapter 1, but it’s hard to compare him to other characters who had more time to develop.
I'd be curious to see a remake of this list after you've consumed all the spin-off material. It gives a few characters(notably Mukuro, Impostor, and Chiaki) more material. Also, it was confirmed in both DRS and by word of god that Chihiro goes by he/him when not hiding
Hey, before you rank characters, please, PLEASE look into the backstories. It isn’t fair that so many people hate on characters before knowing the backstory. Like Hiyoko. She was bullied and abused a lot. Her grandmother kept her from seeing her father, the only loving figure in her life. She wasn’t allowed to do anything for herself, thus, she didn’t know how to tie a kimono. Her bullied even put nails in her shoes. Bullying others is a coping mechanism for her.
I do understand hiyoko but sometimes i can't stand her own personality but I still understand why she's doing that hiyoko is misunderstood I mean children can be annoying but they can be a cool amazing people if you get to know them
This is just my opinion, I agree she had a terrible childhood but that doesn't justify how harshly she treated Mikan. In my opinion, it makes it make sense but that doesn't make it alright.

The game really did Leon dirty, he had so much potential of being a great character and even a survivor and they just killed him off cause they were tired of looking at him, it’s a shame.
I feel like him and Hiro should have switched places. And instead of simply having the one note he doesn't like baseball and wants to be in a band. He should be the character who is so out of it he kind of doesn't care and when they stuff him in the suit hes just super annoyed insted of frickin confused like Hero. His derailing of the controversial could be getting help from Makoto scince they have the same taste in music, or how poised off he is that monokuma won't let him finish his hot dog or smth.

I swear to god the only reason that Yasuhiro survived was that the writers had no idea what to do with him so he just ended up blundering his way through to the end. I don't exactly hate him but I wouldn't be too upset if he kicked the bucket either.
I still wish he had died instead of Taka. I mean I still enjoy Hiro’s goofiness but I think Taka’s arc being continued instead and having him react to the later events of the story would have been so much more interesting. It’s not like the game didn’t have enough people who bring up stupid questions in the trial (Hina and Toko)

fun fact about kokichi: he’s actually a very emotional person, so whenever hes being emotional and immediatly says he lied about it, he actually lied about lying about his emotions. he purposfully tries to bottle his emotions in and whenever he accidentally lets them out he convinces everyone that he was faking it. not every emotional outbreak he had was real, but a good chunk of them were genuine, the best examples being the ends of chapter 4 and 5
I think the SUPER exaggerated ones like when he has that sprite with an insane amount of tears are fake, but the more pulled-back and realistic ones like you said (end of trials 4 and 5) were genuine.

For Sayaka as she was the first person to try in the first game, the whole class trial thing was never explained. She only thought she had to get away with it, she never thought anyone else would die.

I disagree with a lot of these on the list but the placement for Hajime in my opinion could have been higher considering how he's the only protagonist who isn't overly polite or shy and his backstory is much more tragic than any other character in many aspects. He's also the most relatable character in the series, considering that everyone wants to know they are good enough but knowing you'll never be able to be proud of who you are is a very bad feeling. I disagree with the placement for Kiyo too but it's a pretty good list. Keep up the good work!

I always quite liked Mahiru honestly, sure she can be a hypocrite but her sweet/caring yet no bullshit personality, death (she died because she rejected Monokuma's idea that killing someone in revenge is somehow right) and free time events really made me appreciate her character and she died too soon.

Jk, I respect your opinion, but, (i could’ve read the comment wrong) Why do you hate those 3 but not Junko? Mukuro/Mikan/ And kind of Nagito were all manipulated by Junko Enoshima. Mukuro had to deal with Junko for her whole life. She (junko) convinced her to think badly of herself and Mukuro thought of her self as fat, ugly, stupid, and worthless as a result. Honestly, she just wanted to help her sister. Mikan was also tricked, Junko pretended to be the only person to care for her, Yes, It was on Tsumiki’s conscience to kill both Ibuki and Hiyoko, but mostly because of Junko.. Nagito was a remnant of despair, so I included him in this. In Despair Arc, all students were inspired by Junko in a different way, but based on manipulation. So, I personally still like Enoshima, I think she is an interesting character, but she was an extremely bad person. I personally think you shouldn’t hate on characters without looking at the reason for them ending up like that.

My favorite character is Fuyuhiko, because I absolutely adored his character development and design. You know, being so short and so cute but having a title like "Ultimate Yakuza"? Awesome. I also relate to him more than I can ever put into words.

I don’t think Hifumi gets as much credit as deserves. His actions throughout chapter 3 are enough for me to really like his character. The main reason Hifumi helped Celeste with the murder was because Celeste had told Hifumi that Taka did.......unpleasant things to her, whilst using alter ego as fuel to the fire. Speaking of Alter Ego, the reason why Hifumi was so obsessed with him was, yes the 2D thing, but also because he finally had someone to talk to and share his stories with that would actually listen to him. Is he a perfect character, no he’s still pervy and weird at times, but he’s not just a pervert. Also he went out like the mad lad that he his.
His motive made me hate him even more. He believed the Ultimate Gambler who is a master at lying and believed the Ultimate Moral Compass was beating a girl. Also murdering someone for a computer is wack. His stupidity offended me.

That’s the thing is that she’s really good at lying so it makes sense. Also taka was going through a pretty drastic personality change at the time so him believing that he did something like that also makes sense because he definitely wasn’t being his usual self.

Chihiro didn't present as a girl because he genuinely identified as one. It was because he was scared of being bullied. There are some people who think he's a legit trans character and to me it just seems really obvious that he isn't. He *wanted* to be recognized and respected as a boy. The whole message of his character is that the idea of manhood shouldn't be limited to guys who look and act like Mondo. Continuing to call him a girl undermines that message.

The only reason he didn't present as a boy was because he was afraid of how he would be treated being small and meek. He presented as a girl because it was safer for him, not because he actually felt it.

ok so im not arguing with ypur ranking at all, but i just wanted to bring something up! theres a quite popular fan theory out there that korekiyo was actually a victim of csa (child sexual abuse) and was abused by his sister. as a survivor of csa myself and someone who studies phsycology, this theory explains almost all of his behaviors. an older sister, who mightve been adult or near adult age, engaging in romantic and sexual relations with her younger brother? that sounds very much like abuse. also, theres no mention of parents anywhere, so the sister could have molded korekiyo in whatever way she wanted, and it seemed dhe succeeded. korekiyo barely has an identity of his own, everything that he is was just made by his sister. and also, the way that his sisters... spirit (?) acts seems very controling, and how korekiyo chants along with her "apologize" seems almost like he was told that by her a lot. basically his sister sounds very gaslighty and like she always blamed him for stuff
this absolutely doesnt excuse korekiyo being a serial killer, but i just believe it gives some much needed insight on his character

I think what he’s saying is the developers could’ve done something to kiyo that actually relates to his talent and make him more interesting and likable but instead they just give his sister credit for everything he did, it’s almost as if his entire character is solely based off his sister which’s disappointing because kiyo has so much potential, nice comment though really serves justice for his character

Im glad Gonta is kinda high on this list, This was one of the cases i was truly heartbroken over as it slowly progressed as kokichi made us clear each person one by one until it could only be Gonta. It was especially unique considering Gonta himself didnt even remember if he was the killer or not just making it that much harder to convince the others he did it.

@@sven9404 Full-on disagree. He's genuinely trying to help people and despite his flaws, he's always trying his best, and often gets frustrated because he believes he isn't good enough. I wouldn't call that boring. And besides, I would much rather have a boring, kind-hearted character than an interesting, dickish one, unless they have something that can back them up. That's why I hated Nagito and on a lesser extent Kokichi. Though to be fair, I didn't like Ibuki 'cause I found her boring, but you just didn't get to know her much even from her FTEs besides "Yo, I'm a screamer musician girl."

What’s really interesting is that in Chapter 4 of Trigger Happy Havoc, Hiro said that he predicted that there would be no more murders, and he was actually right. Sakura committed suicide, there was no real murder in Chapter 5, and Junko executed herself. Hiro finally hit that 30% prediction.

Kiyo is the embodiment of missed opportunities, just like the case he's convicted in, AKA, the worst one aside from the second game's Trial 3. I gotta get these two out of the way: most mystery games seem to suffer from 3rd Trial Syndrome where the 3rd time isn't the charm for once. Why is that? I'm not sure. It's probably because the midgame trial doesn't seem to know what to do with itself... except for the first DR Trial 3. Despite also being mostly filler with a weak motive, it is filled with some of THE best rants in the series. But whereas 2-3 makes no sense with Mikan able to teleport and snapping due to a spontaneous disease, 3-3 could have added some tension by having someone else kill one of the students and keeping one of the murderers alive. That woulda been interesting, but it plays it too safe.
Agree. The "100 friends" thing is just lazy writing and so is the disease in 2. Kinda bummed that Kiyo, my favorite character in the series, was treated like that while he had so much potential.

I will never understand how people think the 3rd case gets worse for each game. The first game literally has the culprit known so obvious at the start and the only good thing is the culprit only in the end of the trial, not the start and middle, because that character was done dirty of how obvious it was.
D2 wasn't that obvious at the start and the disease actually had a reason and the motive of the killer was more than just being pyscho, that whole case it's big foreshadowing, a good one.
V3 wasn't obvious, it was more complicated and the culprit was a decent character from the start. The only bad thing is the wasted potential, but that potential didn't make sense with the game's purpose.

I was agreeing with everything. Until Keebo appears. He is one of the purest characters, he tries a lot to help (especially using himself as a experiment object for Miu). And there is the whole plot twist in the end about him being the eyes of the spectators.

Cheers really glad you liked it. Believe me when I say I was really on the fence for a while as to whether or not he and Mukuro should have made the cut but because the bulk of their character come from the anime, it felt like it would have been too much of a struggle to talk about him and keep to the guidelines I set myself. I do think he is an fascinating character though.

Say what you will about them both, but at least Hiyoko developed a little bit before her death. We never get to see Mikan standing up for herself or changing before her execution. Additionally, both are meant to be foils of each other, showing the difference between internalized & externalized trauma. I'm not saying you have to like Hiyoko more than Mikan, or at all, but at least understand she did try to change before the game said 'Nope!' & had so much potiental, dare I say, having the ability to have growth on levels of Fuyuhiko & Toko's, meanwhile others didn't even get to make the effort. Give her some credit where it is due.

As an Ishimaru fan, I honestly understand his placement. I definitely would’ve put him way higher, because I’m biased, but his death felt so sudden to me. His character would’ve made such a good survivor if he had a chance to develop as a character, it’s a big waste of opportunity. The way he went didn’t do him much of a favor, either.
If they dropped the Ishimondo persona and swapped his death with Yasuhiro he would be perfect IMO.
They didn’t focus on his death like at all and it really makes me sad. I feel as though every other person who died, murder or execution, got way more remorse than Ishimaru. It didn’t make it seem like he had any impact because nobody cared. It saddens me, he’s in my top three characters in THH and one of my favorites out of the whole series

When the story chooses to focus on her she is great. I think V3 chapter 3 is one of the more underrated ones due to the dynamic between her Angie, and Tenko alone.

As much as we want to fight back, Kaito is kinda like Hiro but he gets a lot more development and thus we end up liking him a lot. He's so stupid and stubborn sometimes it gets annoying.
Even though I like Kaito a lot, his stubbornness after Gonta's death is just stupid, he was being completely illogical towards Shuichi or even Kokichi.

Of course Kaito would be illogical after Gonta’s death, he doesn’t want to believe someone who has literally been dogging them the whole time isn’t the killer, Gonta is gentle, and kind, Kokichi is not so much.
After the trial, he runs because he feels guilty, and doesn’t know how to apologize, not because he’s mad, if you didn’t know. That’s why he tries to apologize with the escape plan, which doesn’t work so well, so he gives Shuichi a direct apology.
Kaito is not stupid, I can’t imagine Shuichi acting out Kokichi and Adlibbing lines.
Kaito is incredibly smart, and he’s so sweet. The Hero doesn’t give up on his friends, his hero complex might make some things seem illogical, but having absolute faith in everyone is a good thing.
Kaito and Hiro are not that alike. Yasuhiro is typically a little dumb, and obviously doesn’t think before he speaks ever. Kaito, on the other hand, thinks with his heart most of the time.

hiyoko deserved better.
she bullied mikan and kazuichi because they were the "weakest" and she wanted to look tougher. in her childhood she literally said that people put tacks in her shoes and forced her to dance, so that's why she wanted to look tough in front of everybody.
she was originally supposed to be a survivor, while fuyohiko died, but that meant pekos sacrifice was useless. but what about mahirus sacrifice?? in chapter 2, when mahiru died, she literally saw the body and started to run away, crying, prooving that she actually cared for mahiru.
personally, i think sonia should've died. shes practically useless besides for a love triangle. instead of hiyoko going out for the mirror, sonia should have because remember hiyoko didnt want to get the despair diease. meaning she asked sonia to go out to get it, but when sonia did, she dies.
she could have had SO MUCH character development.

aw man i was agreeing so much until you said sonia should’ve died instead :( sonia and hiyoko are my favourite SDR2 characters, they’re both equally great to me. if anything, I think kazuichi should’ve been the sacrifice. I like him but he had very little development throughout the game and his jokes were sometimes kinda weird ..plus he doesn’t really have survivor energy anyway.

I get this, I really do, but Mahiru didn't sacrifice herself. She died trying to right wrongs yes, but she didn't sacrifice herself for anyone. Peko's death was a sacrifice becuase she literally died trying to save Fuyohiko. That and I shouldn't have to go through ALL of Hiyoko's free time events for me to see she isn't the worst person in existence (poor Mikan, I mean she definitely isn't my favorite but the girl was tortured by her) XD
As for Sonia dying instead, I'm not against the idea but I think if she did die Souda would have had to die as well and that would end up being more deaths then they wanted for sure.

I must heavily disagree with Byakuya, namely because he was so full of himself that he willfully sabotaged a murder just to prove a point of his. Whenever he ended up arguing, I always ended up asking myself, "This guy damn near got everyone else killed, why are we listening to this pompous airbag?"
Or, as Hina would say, four eyed lemon.
I'm not defending Byakuya, but if they were close to dying in the second class trial, he could have just revealed that Mondo was the killer since Byakuya saw what he did. Also Byakuya got some development at the end of the game.

In conclusion, no matter the outcome of that class trial, Mondo would be executed.

I used to love mahiru but the fact that she helped sato get away with murder but when fuyuhiko killed her she scolded him like he killed an innocent person is honestly what made me have mixed feeling for her (mostly hate for how hypocritical that was)

Even though she played Twilight Syndrome Murder Case, there's a disconnect from seeing what happened, to experiencing (or physically remembering) what happened. If she had her memories and was in the same situation she wouldn't have felt the same way I feel.

I'm currently watching my fiancé play Danganronpa for the first time. He's just finished the first trial of the first game and absolutely hates Byakuya. I can't wait to see his reactions to Byakya's character arc, especially the 2nd and 4th trials.

I agree. I really wish he'd gotten more development because personally he's my favorite character, and I can relate quite a bit to him when you dig into the free time events. I would have liked to see what he could have become over a character like Hiro.
But I'm torn at the same time because I really like the dilemma in his motive. It's highly unlikely that anyone would have believed him over Sayaka seeing that he was completely uninjured and she had a broken wrist, and since he was the one that had come to her it would have been very easy to twist the story and claim that he attacked her first. Especially with the sob story she already had given to Makoto the previous evening. Not saying what he did was right, mans still should have left well enough alone. But I can see the why behind his actions, being in the high pressure situation of someone having just tried to kill you on top of the situation you're already in, trapped in a high school and told to kill or be killed. I like that his predicament makes you think about morality in more of a gray spectrum rather than a black and white textbook right and wrong.
I'm also torn because his execution is still my favorite in the entire series to this day, and I think it really set the stage and tone for the rest of the games. While you could argue that other executions have more brutality and are better carried out, there's just something about Leon's execution that really sets it apart from the others for me.
I also really love his character design, his reoccurrence in the overall story, and maybe a bit morbid of me to say, but this mans was literally the FIRST blackened in entire series, and that's just kinda cool to me. Overall I personally think he's got enough appeal to be higher up on the list than some of the other characters. But that's just my opinion. ^-^ I can see where everyone is coming from and simply choose to respectfully disagree.

Personally I disagree with Hiyoko being last, (my opinion so please don’t get mad) after Mahiru’s death, she actually tried to be better by making a funeral or memorial if some sort for Mahiru. It was obvious she was trying to change. But since she died later we didn’t get to see her change as much as she could. I still agree with her being on the bottom half of the list though. But it’s your opinion so if you disagree I understand.
Hifumi didn't just kill over an AI!
1.He killed because Celeste was "sexually abused" by Taka and he wanted revenge
2.He was told that Taka was going to kill him
3.It was a foolproof plan untill Celeste fucking betrayed him
Hifumi literally said out loud to Celeste that he was going to kill taka even before she said anything about her murder plan; thinking murder before reasoning or telling the rest of the group about it says a lot.

Like Leo said earlier, Hifumi had already wanted to kill taka solely because he thought he took alter ego.

Hifumi being 100% fine with the plan of him and celeste killing two different people one of which being completely innocent and not implicated in the alter ego drama just so he could get the attention of a computer.
Choices for what hifumi could do when he hears a classmate is going to kill him + threatened someone else
A: Hide out during the night in your room then tell others about what you heard the next morning in case you get hurt
B: Console the person and propose a way to mutually protect eachother so nobody can hurt either of them without being caught.
C: Believe the person but refuse to commit a murder that will put everyone else’s lives at risk
D: Get used by the person who’s called you a pig and is proclaimed “the queen of lies” to murder someone for an action you can’t even confirm they did, actively framing an innocent person as the “real killer” while being completely fine with your accomplice murdering another random classmate then getting killed by the person you worked with.

My favourites are Makoto, Byakuya and Kyoko. So I'm actually a pretty satisfied fan, surprisingly. Most peoples brush off the first game's characters in favour of the more eccentric and colorful characters that would come after, so I'm happy to see all this !

47: Ugh she got on my nerves so bad she’s not even funny with her quips. It’s a shame she never got a redemption arc though.
46: The second biggest perv in the series and is nothing but a walking reference machine and not even a good one like Futaba from Persona 5.
45: Worst mastermind in the entire series and a boring character as well.
44: The creepiest character in the series by far but his motivation for murder was so off the wall that it made him a memorable character also Sweet Home Alabama.
43: Dies really early so I don’t have much to say about him although I did like his dream of becoming a musician.
42: Weed Man is by far the stupidest character in the series and he’s such an asshole as well.
41: As a chef and a mama’s boy I can relate to this guy but he’s such a pervert that he makes me cringe sometimes.

32: Sayaka is very hard for me to analyze because all we know about her is her pop career and her selfish actions in the first chapter so I really don’t know what to say.
31: Like Peko said she is a tool a tool for Fuyuhiko’s character development a necessary tool but not really an interesting character also Maki did her character better.
30: Ibuki is by far the best comedic relief character in the series for me. It’s shame she died in the worst case in the whole series.

23: Man Celeste is so underrated in the community. She’s such an interesting character in my opinion and her manipulative nature is very entertaining to watch. Also she played Hifumi and Taka like a fiddle.
22: I really don’t like this character at all and in my opinion should have been the replacement for Taka’s death in chapter 3
21: The second best protagonist in the series although I think he has one of the best arc’s in the whole series He starts out being very naive and being easily manipulated to being a strong powerful character in the end.
20: Wow this is the one I most disagree with. Akane has absolutely no character development and is the weakest member of the cast of DR 2 in my opinion.
19: I really liked Mondo’s arc in the first game and his relationship with Taka was one of the highlights of the series to me. I also think he was one of the most honorable characters overall.
18: One of the most underrated characters of V3. I really sympathized with with Ryoma and his ending was really heart wrenching.
17: Haven’t Played UDG entirely so I have nothing to say about her.
16: The best protagonist of the whole series in my opinion. His relationship with Kaede was one the highlights of V3 and in my opinion is one of the smartest characters in the series and the only logical person to solve the mysteries of the game unlike Makoto and Hajime who needed help.
15: 3rd favorite character in the whole series. I love this little shit and I love that you never really know what Kokichi’s deal is throughout the entirety of V3. Also he has the best voice acting of the entire series in my opinion.
14: The sweetest and kindhearted character in the entire series in my opinion. He just wants everyone to be happy and his death is so heart wrenching to watch especially because he has no idea of what he has done.
13: Junko is by far one of my favorite villains of all time along with Akechi and her motivations are some of the most disturbing things I have ever seen in my life. Also she played Monokuma perfectly in my opinion.
12: unlike Teruteru and Leon you got to know this character and the fake out protagonist twist is by far my favorite in V3.
11: MY FAVORITE CHARACTER IN THE WHOLE SERIES. I love this dude and his over the top behavior is hilarious to watch but unlike Ibuki he actually had some character development and his relationship with Sonia was adorable. He was also very honorable as a human being.
10: Himiko is kind of Eh for me but that’s just showing how good V3’s cast was when a good character like Himiko is in my bottom 5 of that game.
9: I really liked Nekomaru because he seemed like such a motivator to the whole cast of DR 2. His sacrifice was also the best part of chapter 3 in my opinion
8: Maki is one of the most interesting characters in my opinion her occupation as an assassin added some depth to her character and her relationship with Katio was my favorite part of V3.
7: Oof Sakura’s arc was such a gut punch in DR 1 and the fact she had to work for Junko and felt guilty about it causing her classmates to turn on her ending in her suicide was really hard to watch.
6: Kaito was my second favorite character of V3 behind Kokichi and he was the only character who really felt like a friend to the protagonist. Also the plan that Kaito and Kokichi came up with was the best murder plan in the entire series leading to my favorite trial of the entire series.
5: I think Toko is one of the most interesting characters in the whole series from her awful childhood to her split personality with Genocide Jill to her hilarious feelings toward Togami she’s one of the most likeable characters in the entire series in my opinion.
4: Fuyuhiko has the best character development in the entire series. He starts out as an asshole that hates everyone to being an honorable leader and his past with Peko and his sister is great as well.
3: My second favorite character in the entire series I love Nagito’s point of view and his views on hope and despair and his insanity makes his character really shine and he is also the most unpredictable character in the entire series.
2: Wow I wasn’t expecting Byakuya to be this high on this list. I personally don’t like Byakuya that much and is the only asshole character that kind of got on my nerves. Although his respect for Makoto and Kyoko gives him some points.
1: Kyoko is in my top 5 due to her past family issues her intelligence and her quest to find the truth she is very much like Yu Narukami from Persona 4. Although I wouldn’t say she is the best character in the series she is one of the all time greats.

Chihiro's gender IS clear. He wanted to tell everyone, which is what caused Mondo to accidentally lash out. Alter Ego, created by Chihiro, also refers to him as "he" and "father". Why would he make an AI that misgenders him? Nanami also refers to him as father. Chihiro is a crossdresser who didn't want to be bullied for being weak anymore. Calling him "her" is the opposite of his final wish.
I hate Hiyoko apologists. I shouldn’t have to do her free-time in order for her to be a redeemable character.

I'd be curious to see a remake of this list after you've consumed all the spin-off material. It gives a few characters(notably Mukuro, Impostor, and Chiaki) more material.
Also, it was confirmed in both DRS and by word of god that Chihiro goes by he/him when not hiding

Hey, before you rank characters, please, PLEASE look into the backstories. It isn’t fair that so many people hate on characters before knowing the backstory. Like Hiyoko. She was bullied and abused a lot. Her grandmother kept her from seeing her father, the only loving figure in her life. She wasn’t allowed to do anything for herself, thus, she didn’t know how to tie a kimono. Her bullied even put nails in her shoes. Bullying others is a coping mechanism for her.
