- During certain times of year when there are a lot of travelers, Amtrak runs extra long Pacific Surfliner trains. In this video, we will take a look at several extra long Surfliner trains during the busy Thanksgiving and summer travel seasons. Chargers, P42s and F59PHI locomotives all work together to get travelers to their destinations on time.

@@rkpr9370 As A Matter of Fact Yes I Have and I Don't Live Too Far From It. Actually About An Hour Away From It. I'm From The Philadelphia Area. I Haven't Rode It In 3 Years But I'm Planning On Riding It Before The Fall Hits. But Its Beautiful Scenery Alone The Route.

Ayden Postigo They we’re still there in 2010 but this year they retired all of the F59 Ph but the North Carolina F59 PHI are still running today

The horn is fine for me, but the front is just awful.
I hope i get a chance to ride the Surfliners but probably when I'm a lot older and out of the house by then probably the SC-44's will start to be replaced

I read the title as "So long Surfliners" at first. I thought the Surfliners were going away!
I like the catches of a P42 at one end and an SC44 at the other. I just saw the missouri River runner with a B23-8WH at the other end a few days ago (may 2019)!

@@RubyyVista They're in the Chicago area right now. I am seeing few F59s still lurking around here not sure if it's just for extra units or are still awaiting to be replaced

You can still see them at most of the same stations. Metrolink has 5 of them.

Damn it the only way we here in St. Louis can go to San Diego on Amtrak now a days is to hop on board the Amtrak Texas Eagle and Amtrak Surfliner train.

The regular superliners look great painted in Surfliner colors. If only the rest of them were repainted for Surfliner service.
having been to Europe and Japan, but grown up on those beaches and ridden the Coast Starlight more than any other train... man I wish this thing could be managed better and unleashed from auto industry manipulation.

I'm going to miss the P42's when the Chargers start replacing them on long-distance trains.
The P42DC locomotives can't retire. They need to be in service longer. I'm not ready for them to go. I sure won't let them go lol.

0:40 I can't believe you saw a 9 car Surfliner with entirely Surfliner coaches. They almost always use at least 1 Superliner coach on those trains.

I’ve lived along the Surfliner for 14 years now... I wouldn’t consider all of these “super long” like the 9-10 car sets... but the 11, and 12 car sets... those are pretty long, not trying to hate... but not all of these I would consider “super long.” Still an amazing video with great shots! Nice to look back at some F59s.
I've been wondering where Amtrak CA 2051 + 2052 went - they've been missing on their normal Norther CA routes since the beginning (at least) of 2019!

i wish the Chargers were painted in Platinum Mist instead of that weird grey color. It just doesn't fit quite as well with the Amtrak aesthetic...

On 0:56 that Amtrak F59PHI horn sounded like ATSF 5 chime Freight Whistle. Pretty strange isn’t it?🤔

I don’t get it, are the cabcars not meant to pull more than the number of cars the Surfliner normally runs?
Cab Cars can't pull anything. They're actually being pushed by the engine. They find it more ethical to put 2 engines on opposite ends instead of double-heading, so the Cab Cars get no time to shine.
Everyone I know thought 464 went to retirement but no she still running I told them
no she went to metra where she is now with the other f59s I have a vid on my channel of one.
