I got tired of waiting for Sigma to release their 70-200mm lens and bought this one a couple of weeks ago. So far I'm very happy with it. Turns out it is way better than I had anticipated. And don't you worry lads...it's way sharper than what you would see in the various reviews on youtube.

"hello my friends" , cheers me up every time. Please review new Fujifilm XE4. I want to know your opinion on it compare to xt30 and x-s10 as hybrid camera. It is mainly targeted to photographers but I believe it have better specs than XT30 for video. Waiting for your review !
I have Tamron 28-75 and going to complete my range with Sony 70-200 f/4 and Sigma 100-400 f/4.5 f/6.3. On a wide range, I have not decided yet. Probably just a prime one, like 20mm f/1.8. Anything above 70mm must be with OOS, that is why I am rejecting any Tamron lens above 70mm.
I've owned Canon and Sony 70-200mm f2.8 lenses. While great lenses, they are big and heavy. So, I now shoot the 70-200mm f4 Sony lens. It produces very sharp images and is much smaller and lighter than the f2.8 version. Since I mainly shoot landscapes, I don't really need a faster lens. It's great for travel too.
Ty friend, very professional video. clear to understand and informative. I am going to use this lens with my A7c - Just bought it today. I am an architect so just a hobbyist photographer - I hope I will enjoy it as much as you do.
@@TheHybridShooter wow I just noticed you have the Viltrox 24mm f1.8!! I thought it was supposed to be released by now but hopefully soon! Any preview of it's performance? Basically I'm asking if you think it's good for someone on a budget! Cheers again!
I personally used the 70-200 F4 on my A7RIII, very happy with it's performance but compared to a friend's Sigma 105 it was probably 10-20% less sharp (both on A7RIII). The two of us could easily distinguish between each other's lenses on client shoots, but clients didn't see any difference. I ended up selling mine but only because I had approx. $1200 into it (used), which in my opinion was still too much based on what I could get for the same money from other lenses.
Nice review. I usually carry the 70-300G with my a7RIII when I know I won't be doing any serious birding and want to save the weight and not carry the 100-400GM. I have often wondered if I should sell the 70-300 to help fund this lens instead. I've used the GM version in the past and it's nice, but not worth the price for what I shoot. Not interested in the Tamron 70-180 or 70-300 either.
Thank you! If you are willing to sacrifice reach for better optical qualities and constant F4 aperture it makes sense. I much prefer this lens over 70-300.
Hey man, love your videos! I was wondering if you can tell me what your thoughts on the autofocus speed (eye autofocus, etc ) Would it be fast enough for run and gun professional work?
Hi, he did mention that 🙂- basically it has ability to use your sony model af to the fullest. It is recommended to use on a73 / a7c 24mp cameras - I am using the a7c and the af is just fast as it is with my 20 1.8 G and 28-75 2.8 Tamron - hope it helped.
I used to have this, loved it, had to sell it due to financial issues. When I re-bought a telephoto zoom, I got the tamron, but barely used it as it just wasn’t as nice a lens to use. It also got sold and now I’m looking at buying a telephoto zoom again and I’m probably going to go back to this as I miss how versatile it is. The only negative is low light, but I’d rather use a prime in low light situations anyway.
@@TheHybridShooter yeah I also just... Never want to crop in. :( I didn't leave m4/3 to cut down my sensor size again. That was one thing I miss about m4/3 lenses and system. You could get a lot of zoom range with fill sensor coverage.
I use this lens on my A7iii as well as with my crop sensor Sony bodies. It would cost me an extra couple of hundred U.S. Dollars to sell this lens and to purchase the Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 lens. I think that I will keep using the f/4G OSS lens. The cost vs benefits doesn't add up to selling the Sony and purchasing the Tamron...
@@TheHybridShooter well, I enjoy your videos, so I employ you to test it out if you can, since it's in the same price range and offers more. I use it, and don't find any drawbacks in the optical quality department. Would like to hear your thoughts.
I'm not very infested in that lens due to variable aperture, F4 is the highest that I would go on telephoto zoom, so I don't intend to make a review of that one.
Nice video Hybrid Shooter. I have the same lens and the A7 (original) and the A7r4. On the first camera the image quality was only so so. I reckon its only 12 effective mega pixels based on sharpness. I have the 24mm GM and the 55mm 1.8 Sony Zeiss as comparison. So I never liked the 70-200 f4 G lens. On the a7r4 the images are totally unacceptable. Maybe I have a bad copy? What do you think?
Perceived sharpness is definitely way more than 24 MP, as you can see in the sharpness test in this video. The overall sharpness on 24 MP sensor is very good. I don't know about A7R IV.
@@TheHybridShooter With my copy of the 70-200 f4 G lens, even on the A7 original I can see it is not performing well. Its not even resolving the 24mp. The Sony Zeiss 55mm f1.8 blows the 70-200 G lens out of the water. I also have the Tamron 70-180 f2.8 Di III. This Tamron blows my 70-200 f4 G lens out of the water too. So I'm really surprised with your test results. Maybe I have a bad copy.
I made incredible images with this lens on 2017 In Austria, with just a7iii sensor. The lens may not be as sharp as the tamron, but absolutely no one will notice that and I'm kind of unhappy that tamron cheap out their lenses way to much, no even a tripod collar?, no OSS?, absolutly no true that oss will make the lens bigger, see batis 85 or sigma 100-400 dgdn. . I only will trade this lens for a possible sigma 70-200 if it come as good as the 100-400. A year ago pop up a rumor about that Sigma which could only weight 1.050kg. At the time I couldn't believe it but after the Sony g2, that can be indeed possible.
Also not stabilized, which is an instant deal-breaker for me at that focal length. Constant F4 is the limit for me on short to mid-range telephoto, so I am not interested in that one. It might be suitable for users with different preferences though.
Hi, Can anyone help me on what material the lens hood is made of? I bought the lens with the lens hood cracked, and I would like to repair the hood. Thank you!
This lens is still very expensive considering its age. I wonder how adapted Canon lens will work because you can find EF 70-200mmf/4 lens at a very good price.
