Can't take Rat seriously because his takes on non Fromsoft/MonHun games. He literally will nitpick everything. Like it's the mark of terrible criticism when you don't bring any of the positives of what you are criticizing. He will talk about the FF7 Remake story but not talk at all about one of the best real time combats in a JRPG which is what you are doing for 99% of the game.
@ tbf to Rat, I think the stream he had when the nominees were announced, he basically praised everything about the game and said he didn’t mind the remake ending, however he despises Rebirth because of the ending and how it was convoluted and left up to interpretation. I can understand not liking the ending to remake or rebirth. That’s fine. But having a hatred for a game when 95% plus of it was good to great is kinda nuts imo. Eapecially when it’s part 2 of a trilogy. I thought the ending was messy. But god damn, the rest of the game was amazing imo. I can see an ending almost ruining something like a tv series/movie, but a 2nd part of a 3 part video game? Nah.
@@fy4b230 I never got the end ruined the game. Games are interactive art form so I don't rate the narrative as highly as gameplay/level design/enemy design. Rat has something I hate in game reviewers, they often overvalue the story. I think it makes sense to value the story/narrative say in something like Life is Strange becuase heck that is 99% of the game. But Rat has done this now multiple times where has criticized games for their stories without even mentioning their gameplay. Did the same to Rebirth/Metaphor and others in past.
@tamim3319 A game's ending no matter the medium can absolutely ruin and taint the experience. For me, this was for Spider Man 2 (the game) in which the ending is such an ass pull I refuse to even acknowledge the other good elements of the game. Ff7 rebirth just isn't that, it's obvious what the devs are trying to do now and I'm fully into the mystery and seeing where it goes. But if the third part doesn't start answering stuff I'm gonna be livid.
@@tamim3319yes but story is still an incredibly hard thing to pull off and usually much more unique when done well so it shines, whereas a copy game can still be a great game but obviously less unique. So technically gameplay matters more in the moment but a story sticks with you easier, which is why some people value them so high. So in a case where you fuck up the story of an existing thing that was going to be really good, it pisses people off (aka metaphor in Rata’s opinion, or ff7 remake in his opinion as well) and ff7R is good but I can see what he means with how it might just end up going nowhere with a story we love and the gameplay isn’t to his liking either, so it makes sense to drop it. (Personally I enjoy the gameplay but prefer the original experience as a whole)
Destiny 2 being in "Best Ongoing" is another downside to having no "Best DLC/Expansion" category. Final Shape would 100% deserve a nomination for best dlc, but it feels so weird being in best ongoing cause the vibes have been terrible for months.
i dont think we get enough elden ring size expansions every year for it to have its own category, it will end up being the “here is your WoW, destiny, ff14 expansion of the year to choose from” every year, which ends up being no different then the ongoing game category
@@ab2dii467I think maybe it could be a category that only becomes available when there are enough contenders in a year. I mean "Best Ongoing" is also a pretty silly category that basically always nominates the same games but DLCs that require a base game should not be eligible for the main awards.
True the final shape was literally a mountain. We climbed up to the peak with into the light, reached the summit with final shape launch, and the fell off a cliff with echos 😂
Are they out of touch with just how hugely anticipated GTA6 is? It's not just GTA5 youtube slopping zoomers, it's 30-50 year olds who played the PS2 games who are excited too. My 54 year old dad is anticipating it.
Just anecdotal stuff, but my cousin, multiple of my friends, and I at least played GTA three through five. Many of us played RDR 1 and 2. A few of us played the handhelds and classic games. On top of that, we're all over 30, but none of us could give a fuck about GTA6. Take-Two and Rockstar ruined the multiplayer of 5 and ended up driving all of us away with the shitty monetization scheme, terrible grinding, and lack of dealing with hackers. At minimum, a few of us might pick 6 up for the story, and that's after a deep discount. Will it still sell well? Yes. Will it win most anticipated? Maybe, but I'm personally looking forward to Wilds, and the only MH I ever played was Worlds.
Hello. I dont interact with most content creators content often. But i do follow both of you and watch content from both of you regularly. While I dont always agree, i do respect what you both hsve to say. That said, I just got done listening to this while i was working and there is a disagreement I have. When it comes to the soundtract and score award, i respect the opinion of whomever you want to choose to win the award. However, i don't agreed with Ruri's take on ff7 rebirths soundtract. I do have a major bias towards ff7rebirth. And i dont hsve an issue if someone feels a different game deserves the reward. But i believe Ruri is missrepresenting the ff7 soundtract. Excusing it for being mostly old and existing music redone. There are 400+ newly created songs for ff7rebirth. While yes, many are recreations of og ff7 music, just as much if not more are fully original. I dont have a problem with someone prefering other music, but by Ruri's own admittance, he hasn't played ff7 rebirth to begin to understand the music. Nore has he played the og ff7 all the way through. It feels disingenuous to push it aside when theres a lack of understanding
Honestly stopped listening because the whole discussion was a joke. They haven't played most of the notable games this year so it was hard to listen to. They should stick to MonHun and Fromsoft games.
Rebirth has one of the most impressive and expansive soundtracks ever in a game. It's pretty obvious these guys don't know how music or music production works.
Hearing you guys be so dismissive of GTA 6 saying it’s for “normies” is so off putting. I personally don’t like GTA 5 or what has become of GTA online lately but what GTA or RDR2 has put on the table for the entire gaming industry can’t be ignored in terms of narrative and technical achievement. Not to mention raking in all that billions means more growth for the industry. My man has standards so high he only watches kino cinema
Couldn't agree more. While GTA isn't really my type of game I can't but admire Rockstar and their technological advancements for the medium. I might play GTA6 for the hair physics alone lol
@@ceka52I'm excited for GTA 6 mostly for the technical showcase it will be to be honest. RDR2 is still arguably the most technically impressive game out there.
GTA stories are incredibly mid tbh. But the gameplay was revolutionary at one point yes. It's just, not that impressive anymore. Still fun, just nothing special.
While I don't think Rockstar games are ever that special from a gameplay perspective they are always extremely impressive and well made on a technical level and tell great stories. GTA 6 will set the technical bar for open world games for years to come like RDR2 did.

Love you guys but it's really funny that you think only young people will play GTA. GTA 5 was basically an homage to movies like Heat.. the demographic is millennial men
32:12 that’s the exact opposite of what happened. People were losing their shit because a woman would be the new main character and screaming about DEI nonstop. Ruri has no understanding of culture war related topics. Please just leave it be.
You also have "no understanding of culture war related topics", because what people were mainly upset about was the garbage political shit on the actresses social media, making people worried what kind of slop the game might be if they hire people like that
@@vadimakdav1357 The personal attack at the end surely was not neccessary, but we can agree that even before people starting digging to feel even more mad that the Anti-DEI collectivly cried out when the trailer dropped, no ?
@@Realag666 "personal attack"? Just pointing out a pattern where involvement from people like that continues to ruin franchise to franchise, and creates slop after slop that no one, even people who agree with them politically, likes. But yes, I'm sure there was some negative response (haven't seen much myself) to the main character being female, spurred by, once again, pattern recognition. (I personally saw no problem in the trailer, and actually think it looks nice)
@vadimakdav1357 nah I meant the guy who went out of his way to call Rurikhan uninformed on this topic. Sorry didn't phrase that right. And I personally feel that it's dishonest to say "there maybe was some negativity" when Asmongolds clip got insane number of views and every gaming outrage farmer had a video on it.
I agree that DLC/Expansions should get their own category, BUT I also want a main award that's open to everything. Main awards like GOTY are what most ppl care about, it's what generates most discussion and fun tribalism. Removing some of the games from it can only reduce that fun. In an ideal world, we could have: Wukong winning GOTY FF7 winning best remake SotE winning best DLC Ballatro winning best indie And then all 4 competing in a finals for the main award.
The problem isn't should a dlc win or not, the problem is that a dlc is so fucking good, that it rivals full games. It's set a standard and it's further proving that too many full priced games are being shipped that are not worth the asking price
Did either of you guys play RDR2? I think rockstar has proved they have the potential for incredibly immersive and incredibly good storytelling. they also make some of the most detailed open world sandboxes which is why is appeals to people who are above the teen demographic imo. That being said I am more excited for Wilds personally
I voted for SOTE because it was the best game I played all year. Took three days off work to play. Wayfinder looks like World of Warcraft combined with Fortnight. Literally the same shades.

Can’t understand the GTA hate. Rockstar is one of the only other devs I put on a similar pedestal to Fromsoft. Their stuff is just on such a high level of quality.
I think people recently have just realised a bunch of Gta missions just suck. I was replaying a Gta V mission the other day and i failed during the mission and had to repeat a 20 minite drive to even get a chance to do it again
Their terrible handling of GTA online for such a long time put a bad taste in people's mouths. There were also a lot of people that really didn't like RDR2 because they feel Rockstar made the game too slow and frustrating to play for "realism". Then they also just straight up ruined and abandoned RDR2 online. Then we got the terrible "remastered" collection of the old GTA games. There's actually quite a few reasons people have a problem with Rockstar.
Spoken like 2 people who have never played any GTA games lol. The GTA campaigns are fantastic. Vice city, San andreas, gta 4, gta 5. All goats. I've put 1,300 hours into monster hunter worlds, and 1,200 hours into GTA online alone and I haven't touched it in years. Its the best sandbox ever made, and Rockstar has been cooking for the last 11 years for this, 2bil budget, no one in the industry has the ability and resources to do what Rockstar does. If you think its just teenagers playing gta games "coz edgy lol" then boy are you two out of touch lmao
Goats is a bit of a stretch they good games but just cause saints row watchdogs cyperpunk 2077 all more ambitious/innovative open world sandbox games then gta.
They have not been cooking gta 6 for 11 years now your buggin lmao it’s been like 6 years max or less. And gta 5 story mode amazing? You’d actually have to pay me alot to have to play through that boring ass story mode now, Their mission design and structure is so boring in 2024. If there’s not other options outcomes and ways to change the story if you still fail by driving the wrong way for 10 seconds it’s actually gonna be a joke lmao gta still plays like San Andreas and that was 20 years ago good for the time but they really need to switch up their formula
@@rurikhan I'm personally not really a GTA enjoyer but I hope you don't feel the same for the RDR games. Those I love with passion even though they share GTAs failures in mission design. RDR2 has peak writing.
To solve problem, how about replace GOTY into "best experience gaming of the year"? It would be makes more sense to nominate remakes, remasters amd dlcs
Rockstar treats Red dead and gta differently there's a reason it'll be as big as it is Red dead 2 is still one of the most Rememberable games I've ever played and I play all the games you guys do They're audience are more then just teenagers entirely 😂
yo when does he say that could you drop a timestamp pls 🙏. Cuz idk what he means by "not optimal" the alternative is queuing every song individually and encoring them separately, which is 1000 times less optimal. Its just faster in wilds cuz the game is faster that's all.
@rurikhan Have to respectfully disagree, while it's not as quick and fluid as it is in Wilds now, stacking melodies and playing them all at once and then encoring once instead of 3 seperate times is the definitely the more optimal way to play World HH, I've used the HH pretty extensively, just yesterday even
I think a valid question is: should a remake be considered as ineligible for GOTY as a DLC? A DLC and a remake are similar in that they only add to something that already exists, or at least in theory that’s what they are for (ignoring asset flips and glorified remasters). I think either both should be eligible or neither should be. However if I had to say, I’d say they both should be eligible and there should be a category for DLCs. There shouldn’t be a category for remakes because there shouldn’t be that many remakes every year
I agree, but final fantasy is beyond a remake imo, even if it did follow the same story stuff, it’s completely different in terms of gameplay, (character portrayal in some cases) and overall direction
@ yeah that’s a fair point too. I ultimately don’t have the answer, I’d say they’re probably different and a remake has a slightly better reason in most cases to be nominated than DLC does
So few players have played several of, let alone all of, the games up for nomination. This leads to people just voting for the game that they played. Even though it is logistically impossible, I wish at least X hours were required in at least Y of the nominated titles to vote.
Dude you haven't played DMCV? Like wtf are you doing? Itsuno's legacy is DMC not Dragon's Dogma, people love Itsuno because of DMC no one gives a fuck about DD, like seriously the game didn't become popular until the sequel was announced and after Capcom's return to fame with MHW.
DMC3 is in my top 10 video games of all time and imo his games have gotten progressively worse and worse with each entry. Not to say they’re bad. I think they’re all good but they’re kept being more and more strange self destructive decisions in each game. DMC 4 had a third of the game copy and pasted and its ranking system was too easy and the game wasn’t really challenging enough even on the hardest difficulty. The game also had involuntary adaptive difficulty even on the highest difficulty so even if you started to actually be challenged the game would take that away from you. Significantly weaker normal enemy design, that waste your time or are punching bags. In other words many of them are just boring. I also think style switching and removing weapon load outs made Dante less interesting and actually made him lose depth. If that confuses you, it’s just a case of limitations making you have to be creative with the options you have. If you have a better option there’s no reason to use your worse option in a more creative nuanced way to get better results. It also adds decision making on the pre mission select screen. A worse story if anybody cares. DMC 5 had terrible weapon balancing for Dante. A poorly designed and slightly broken ranking system. Easy bosses but hard normal enemies, many of which I didn’t like. V… just V. All the bosses with V just in general suck. Pay to win with the red orb micro transactions. The ability to essentially skip bosses with Faust even if you don’t farm red orbs. A worse feeling physics and clunkier feeling controls that removes a significant amount of tech from the game. Ludicrously broken jump cancelling that’s too easy to pull off. Royal guard also being too easy to pull off. Also dragons dogma was slowly getting more and more popular over the years to the point a lot of people had actually played it before DD2 came out. I really only have three complaints about DMC3. Those being the enemies being too simple before very hard/OG hard mode, being able to farm red orbs in previous missions and a couple bosses being boring and annoying.
The sequel only happened because of how popular dd1 was. DD:DA on steam pushed a mediocre selling original release up towards 10 million sales before dd2 was announced.
Raytracing is cool for having accurate reflections and light bounce. Thing is, its just better to fake that shit to save a lot of performance, plus it can be done convincingly.
dude i started playing through all the yakuzas like 4 months ago, im at judgement now and i play a lot. Its a big commitment if you want to go through all of them
The main frustration I have with the game awards is the inconsistency. They can put on the charade that DLC has always been eligible for all categories but if that's the case, why wasn't Phantom Liberty nominated for goty last year? Or an even better example: Future Redeemed, the 6th highest rated game on Metacritic in 2023 and expansion to a 2022 Goty contender just like Elden Ring. Yet, it didn't receive even a single nod. The committee that votes on these game has Western bias with a tendency towards the most popular breakout games from the East like Wukong or anything Enix/Atlus/From. And sure, I get it, they're people too with preferences. But they're also journalists who are supposed to try to maintain some air of objectivity. Ultimately, it's long past time for a best DLC/expansion category and that's the only one Erdtree should've won this year. Otherwise it takes away from actual new games just like Blood and Wine did to DS3. And no I'm not just salty because Erdtree took the spot that Unicorn Overlord rightfully deserved in the best rpg category. Shameful.
@Omega77232 Phantom Liberty, sure I'll give you that but Future Redeemed was praised higher than many of the goty nominees, and it didn't even appear in any of the smaller categories. Same for Metroid prime remaster which was the 3rd highest rated game of the year and imo the best remaster ever made and yet didn't receive one nomination. You can't tell me that's not inherent bias.
I played Cyberpunk and Phantom Liberty, and I can tell you is nowhere near the same level of quality as B&W or SoTE. Xenoblade being nominated in 2022 was already a huge W for JRPGs as a whole, but trying to compete with its expansion in 2023, along Juggernauts like BG3 or ToTK, is a bit much to ask. Sometimes our favorite games don't make the cut. Nine Sols is an example of a Masterpiece in Metroidvania design, rivaling the likes of Hollow Knight and Blasphemous 1&2, yet it wasn't even nominated Indie Game of The Year. I could say Balatro took the spotlight, or simply the judges didn't consider that game. That's how it goes, sadly.
I'll say this about Destiny, as for D1, the only free content was the base game which ofc you paid for the base game, and all the 4 expansions you had to pay for, and The Taken King came with a raid which you didn't have to pay extra for, same with the Destiny 2 expansions. The paid dungeons which are not raids, are far better than the few free dungeons that we got, so I personally have no problem paying $20 for 2 dungeons each year due to them being way higher quality than the free ones we got before. The paid dungeons are also not directly tied to the main story and act as their own separate story. I will also add that Destiny 2 added back remade versions of theraids from Destiny 1 for free to all players. I totally understand that a lot of people don't like the direction that Destiny has gone in, even I have my gripes and currently play other games way more atm. I just wanted to say all this cause I feel like some people don't understand that about stuff like the dungeon key situation cause they don't play and go purely off of hearsay. Last thing I will add, the season pass price increase was totally dumb.
I wasn't going to vote for these awards. I fuckin love elden ring and the dlc and definitely think it deserves to win goty plus multiple other categories. But your slander against ff7 Rebirth is so offensive I will vote for it in every category just to cancel out your vote. You brought this upon yourself! Side note: rebirth absolutely deserves best music
I listen to both of your guys' podcasts and I gotta say you two have the best dynamic together. Also, Wayfinder's UI looks like fortnite I admit, but the art style is much closer to WoW
God I hope your friends will be able to just join your story missions no issue in wilds. I personally know multiple people who world was ruined for them and they just dropped the game entirely because of the hoops they had to jump through to play with friends every mission.
I love how mad people are about SotE. It's completely ridiculous. Though I'll go a step further here and say that they don't need to make a new category. What would go in that category this year? SotE and that's about it. These sorts of giant expansions don't happen much anymore. So now you're going to make a category meant to encompass something as broad as DLC release schemes? How is that supposed to work? It would be the most convoluted set of criteria imaginable and people would whine about it every year. It's a bad idea made worse by how redundant the category would end up being.
Okay then give SotE a big shout out or something, or an award in a different category. it’s still not a game you can buy and play by itself. If the people who made it call it a dlc or expansion and you cannot play it without playing hours of a game that already won GOTY, it’s only taking away votes from other games? I wouldn’t be mad if shadow won, but I do think it’s ridiculous how many people are willing to give a game GOTY twice. When you’re playing SotE, you’re still playing elden ring.
@@goose69 "it’s still not a game you can buy and play by itself." This is a criteria that only exists in your head. Argue against the existing criteria. Not the ones people aren't using. "it’s only taking away votes from other games?" All nominees are taking away votes from other games. That's how this works. One of the best games I played in several years which happened to come out this year isn't anywhere at the game awards. That's life. This is as much a raw popularity contest as anything else and SotE is VERY popular. "When you’re playing SotE, you’re still playing elden ring." The Ship of Theseus would like a word with you.
@rainbowkrampus “ship of Theseus would like a word with you” lol nice one😂 Also “that’s a criteria that exists in you head” no it’s not, the title is GAME of the year, something elden ring already won. Even if it’s a criteria I made up, SotE ISNT a game. Argue against the existing criteria? I am, I think they shouldn’t allow no dlcs in GOTY, and this isn’t the first time it’s happened. Clearly it’s not required that you be a game to win game of the year. Also I know “all nominees are taking away votes” but I’m arguing against SotE because it’s not a game, it’s more Elden ring, a game that has already won. If anything shouldn’t you also want SotE not to be a GOTY nominee so the game you said you played and like had a better chance to be a nominee? Also the ship of Theseus thing doesn’t add up to me because if elden ring were a boat, SotE would be like adding another mast and set of sails, without dismantling anything that was already apart of the ship.
@@goose69 Elden Ring has been dismantled, many, many times. Every single patch is removing a plank and replacing it with another. You're also undermining your argument here. You insist "It's still just Elden Ring" but now you say that problems of continuity don't apply when talking about additions. So you're saying that additions do not affect continuity, which I hope you can recognize makes no sense. What I think you should do is take some time, maybe even a couple of days, to think about this rather than just reacting to criticisms. From my perspective, it feels like you're not really thinking about your own arguments and are just trying to protect your initial position, even if it means devolving into knee-jerk contrarianism which knocks the stool out from under your positions. Food for thought at any rate.
Is SotE a separate game? No? Then it shouldn't be eligible. Simple. SotE is not remotely different enough from the base game to be considered a separate game. It's called game of the year, current year I might add. Should No Man Sky be eligible then considering how often that game gets updated? How about Destiny 2? Hell might as well make Bloodborne eligible if Sony updated it with a 60fps patch and a single costume pack.
One big problem is when people think dlc they think skins , emotes , currency etc to call sote just a dlc is really disingenuous it’s on the same level of Warcraft 3 frozen throne expansion that was my measuring stick when it came to dlc/expasions not many games have come to that level of expansion sote literally could of been called Elden ring 2 and it would win without question its vertically and openness is way more intricate than it was in the base game. With all that being said I think bmw should win lol
I think the ACTUAL reason people are anticipating GTA is bc it's one of those "everything" multiplayer games now. You can get on with friends in a sandbox w a ton of game modes and activities to mess around with, or if nothing else just dick around and chat w your buddies in an online interactive space. Great game to play if you have nothing you particularly wanna play at the moment w/ your online gaming friends
Elden had its Glory, let other games have that reward this year... As much as I enjoyed this game it shouldn't be included on any categories except BEST DLC.
Think of it this way. If you play if properly, LS will never, and i really do mean NEVER, benefit from earplugs. There's a difference between "using the tools you have to handle a mechanic properly" and "bypassing a mechanic entirely".
Sorry but you are dead wrong about GTA VI's audience. I know several people close to 40 who are not even huge gamers but they plan to buy a new console just for GTA VI. I think it's not about age. Rockstar games are usually really high quality but they are extremely normie friendly.
How crazy is it that games now have unlimited chances to get Game of the Year? Now stay with me here, Baldur's Gate 3, early access for 3 years, wins GOTY for 1.0 release last year, Manor Lords in early access currently, nominated for 2 categories, no reason GOTY should be excluded there, Shadow of the Erdtree DLC nominated for GAME OF THE YEAR this year, effectively making a second chance for Elden Ring to get GOTY. So you can (presumably) win Game of the Year when you release into Early Access, when you release into 1.0 full release, and for every subsequent DLC you release as well. Now maybe it's just me, but that award is meaningless if this is the case, which it clearly is based on those examples.
Summing up he controversy over Ghost of Yotei being about some people saying "Jin was a garbage protagonist" is a pretty weird reductive take, no matter where you might side on the topic It's a bit like saying Last of Us 2 was controversial because people said that Joel was actually immoral in the first game and they were happy to see what happened to him

We must make sure the Elden Sweep happens

Did you see the rules, we get a meager 10% of the influence in total, the other 90% are for the media outlets. What we vote means jack sh*t.
Cringe
Destiny 2 being in "Best Ongoing" is another downside to having no "Best DLC/Expansion" category. Final Shape would 100% deserve a nomination for best dlc, but it feels so weird being in best ongoing cause the vibes have been terrible for months.
EXACTLY! I understand when they crap on d2 because there’s so many reasons to but they also don’t realize how big final shape was.
i dont think we get enough elden ring size expansions every year for it to have its own category, it will end up being the “here is your WoW, destiny, ff14 expansion of the year to choose from” every year, which ends up being no different then the ongoing game category
@@ab2dii467 Yeah maybe. This year had Erdtree, Final Shape, Diablo 4, FF14, GoW Valhalla, and Alan Wake just off the top of my head
My 54 year old dad is anticipating it.
clueless on how popular gta was back in 2000-2008
100% letting their own personal feelings get in the way of reality. GTA and rockstar games are massive across all ages .
100% agree

Even though SOTE is a DLC, because of its size and impact I feel that it’s worthy of a game of the year award 👌

Not to mention raking in all that billions means more growth for the industry.

Nothing wrong with striving to only watch “kino cinema”. Our time on this earth is limited. Would rather watch a great movie than a good movie :0)
While I don't think Rockstar games are ever that special from a gameplay perspective they are always extremely impressive and well made on a technical level and tell great stories. GTA 6 will set the technical bar for open world games for years to come like RDR2 did.

Both can be true.
You also have "no understanding of culture war related topics", because what people were mainly upset about was the garbage political shit on the actresses social media, making people worried what kind of slop the game might be if they hire people like that

I agree that DLC/Expansions should get their own category, BUT I also want a main award that's open to everything.
Main awards like GOTY are what most ppl care about, it's what generates most discussion and fun tribalism. Removing some of the games from it can only reduce that fun.
In an ideal world, we could have:
Wukong winning GOTY
FF7 winning best remake
SotE winning best DLC
Ballatro winning best indie
And then all 4 competing in a finals for the main award.
The problem isn't should a dlc win or not, the problem is that a dlc is so fucking good, that it rivals full games. It's set a standard and it's further proving that too many full priced games are being shipped that are not worth the asking price
No, the problem is that a dlc shouldn't win. It's good, but there were several actual new games I played that I enjoyed more than Erdtree.
The story about Rurikhan's Astro Bot code expiring is the exact kind of thing that would happen to me.
Did either of you guys play RDR2? Their terrible handling of GTA online for such a long time put a bad taste in people's mouths. There were also a lot of people that really didn't like RDR2 because they feel Rockstar made the game too slow and frustrating to play for "realism". Then they also just straight up ruined and abandoned RDR2 online. Then we got the terrible "remastered" collection of the old GTA games.
There's actually quite a few reasons people have a problem with Rockstar.

To solve problem, how about replace GOTY into "best experience gaming of the year"? It would be makes more sense to nominate remakes, remasters amd dlcs

Ruri, u can stack melodies and play them all at once and then encore them all at once in World as well xD. That's not new to Wilds
You can, but it’s not optimal and feels awkward.
yo when does he say that could you drop a timestamp pls 🙏. Cuz idk what he means by "not optimal" the alternative is queuing every song individually and encoring them separately, which is 1000 times less optimal. Its just faster in wilds cuz the game is faster that's all.
@rurikhan Have to respectfully disagree, while it's not as quick and fluid as it is in Wilds now, stacking melodies and playing them all at once and then encoring once instead of 3 seperate times is the definitely the more optimal way to play World HH, I've used the HH pretty extensively, just yesterday even
30:33 The utter disgust in Ratatoskr's voice at the thought of Death Stranding being most anticipated game lolol
I ultimately don’t have the answer, I’d say they’re probably different and a remake has a slightly better reason in most cases to be nominated than DLC does
@ true
Sorry guys , yall are way off about gta6. Gta5 was fantastic and rockstar always does amazing single player experiences. I’m over 40 btw.
So few players have played several of, let alone all of, the games up for nomination. This leads to people just voting for the game that they played.
Even though it is logistically impossible, I wish at least X hours were required in at least Y of the nominated titles to vote.
That’s why the vote only consists of like 10% of the fans, and 90% game critics who actually played the game.
@@ronthorn3 There is still no rule that the jury has to play the games. They are more likely to have played them than the average gamer though.
Not gonna happen it’s either gonna be metaphor or rebirth for at least RPG of the year

Shameful.
coz last year is jampacked by really good games, liberty has no chance to squeeze in for nominations for 2023 game awards
DLC should just replace "Ongoing Game" because I think it's a vague and silly category that usually just nominates the same games.
Eh future redeemed got higher score cuz it has LESS reviews, if it was more than 70 reviews it'll go down to at least 86 metascore
@@goose69 "it’s still not a game you can buy and play by itself."
This is a criteria that only exists in your head. Argue against the existing criteria. Not the ones people aren't using.
"it’s only taking away votes from other games?"
All nominees are taking away votes from other games. That's how this works. One of the best games I played in several years which happened to come out this year isn't anywhere at the game awards. That's life. This is as much a raw popularity contest as anything else and SotE is VERY popular.
"When you’re playing SotE, you’re still playing elden ring."
The Ship of Theseus would like a word with you.
@rainbowkrampus “ship of Theseus would like a word with you” lol nice one😂
Also “that’s a criteria that exists in you head” no it’s not, the title is GAME of the year, something elden ring already won.
With all that being said I think bmw should win lol
the infinite combo does still exist afaik. just has different inputs.

Ruritoskr podcasts are always a great listen. Very entertaining back and forths. Thanks guys!
Elden had its Glory, let other games have that reward this year... As much as I enjoyed this game it shouldn't be included on any categories except BEST DLC.
I could see it being in "Best Ongoing" but that's it. If it needs a base game to function then it's not a new game and ER already won GotY.
Fromsoft could have made SotET a sequel, but it would have been worse for it, much like Zelda TotK. Don't punish them for doing the right thing.
Im in the 2% top rataskr viewers and have somehow watched 4 times more than the average viewer. Very cool or something idk
There were at least ten large monsters on the map at a time for me
What did you think of Wukong Ratatoskr
Here after 2 hours and I got to side with Rata that Wayfinder does look like WoW Fortnite.
Ratha you should have mention things you dont like about Wilds during wilds topick . And how some people are worried about the direction MH is going.
Moistcritical’s video titles are super clickbaity though
2:10:16 I see the Fortnite, but I still like the style; it’s very pretty and colorful.
Ratatoskr the Longsword main is backkk letsgooo
Watching stream 20 mins late was wierd af . Ratha just posting eggs or DD2 emoji to the chat and people are spaming MAY CHAOS TAKE THE WORLD !
I wonder what ruris and ratas names are
I don't
My name is actually public, Rui.
@@rurikhan oh wow, that's a cool name 👍🏻
Rurikhan and Ratatoskr. Glad to be of help.
Wayfinder is a mix between WoW, LoL and fortnite for me 😂
Rata play Darksiders plz. Its best Zelda likes (or okami, but i know u played that). Most ppl seem to like the 2nd one more, i pref 1.
im a fan of ghost of tsushima and i hated the story, i hpo this one has a good story
1:07:08 You're wrong here friend. Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen is a fantastic game.
1:45 that is called a subtweet
I dunno how someone can play Death stranding and come away saying they had alot of fun 😂
1:06:58 this is a crime, dmc5 is king of action combat
I stand by the Longsword video. The design is so overindulgent in Wilds. Say it loud Rat!
"iT leTs yOu IGnOrE mEchaNicS" is so stupid to say , it's like saying parries or blocking let's you "ignore" them aswell
Think of it this way. If you play if properly, LS will never, and i really do mean NEVER, benefit from earplugs.
There's a difference between "using the tools you have to handle a mechanic properly" and "bypassing a mechanic entirely".
I don't even play Monster Hunter but boy do I love listening to these guys talk about it for hours 😁 great pod
MAY CHAOS TAKE THE WORLD
How does wayfinder NOT look like fortnite 🤣
Sorry but you are dead wrong about GTA VI's audience. I know several people close to 40 who are not even huge gamers but they plan to buy a new console just for GTA VI. I think it's not about age. Rockstar games are usually really high quality but they are extremely normie friendly.
So much ads
Summing up he controversy over Ghost of Yotei being about some people saying "Jin was a garbage protagonist" is a pretty weird reductive take, no matter where you might side on the topic
It's a bit like saying Last of Us 2 was controversial because people said that Joel was actually immoral in the first game and they were happy to see what happened to him
Praying sote doesn’t win goty purely because phantom liberty got shafted from it last year
Base Elden ring wasn’t a completely broken scam on release is the main difference.
Phantom Liberty isn't even close to being as good as B&W, and SoTE is at that level imo.
@@porkwhisperer3050 true just a boring copy of ds3!
@@AshNeeko Don’t mind the fact that the combat is massively more complex and the entire structure of the game is different with it being the first ever open world souls like.
@@porkwhisperer3050 Bu... But you can't say that! Because they both look like ARPGs and are dark fantasy or something.
The next thing you'll see is people saying Isometric RPGs are the same, like some people think all Souls look the same. Not even in the coloring DS3 and ER look alike. Just the saturation and most character designs are enough to see.
Wayfinder looks like Fortnite
@ratatoskr you are so right. Wayfinders looks like wow/fortnight and also a lot like Wildstar. I don't like it either
Elden sweep for salt
Remnant last expansion 😊
If you think Elden Ring should be nominated for GOTY just to get back at from software hate. Gensin Impact will have chance to win GOTY and then we all lose!!!!
I hope elden ring doesnt win GOTY because i feel it will just lead to negative consequences.
@mob8502 are you joking? What exactly would these consequences be?
Rat your standards are so high for every non Fromsoftware game it's quite insane, yet they can keep the same combat and storytelling and you give them the pass. Really hard to take you seriously sometimes.
Yeah, he's just a fromsoft glazer from what I've been listening from his content.
Because change for the sake of change doesn’t make something good. If you go from Demon Souls to Elden Ring, it’s a refinement of style and method of game mechanics. This is why it has spawned its own genre of games.
@@connorkenney6938change doesn't always mean good but every game needs innovation eventually and with innovation comes risk elden ring should of had a better mount horses are overused mounts in open world games it should of also had seamless co op allowing you to free roam in co op with mounts wait I thought you guys Said this game was a masterpiece?
@@Gems56 name a game with a more fun horse? Do Other games have double jump horses that you can spawn at mostly any time in the game? Lmao I agree with the seamless coop thing, convergence mod just added 4 new mounts
@Jbswe flying mounts lots of games have them and if you want a example of a game with different mounts monster hunter it's so repetitive that most games are using the same mount.
Rata even I voted for Monster Hunter Wilds, and I've never even played a Monster Hunter game! Shameful behaviour and I expect better.
Hello fine sir's
My hatred for FF7 Rebirth (and current day Square Enix) have finally found it's match in Rata's hate for it, preach brother XD
I too despise Unreal Engine 5
Should be a separate category. DLCs, nor remakes for that matter, have no business being nominated for GOTY.
I JUST WANNA SAY RATA YOU ARE A LEGEND.
lol he is so wrong about rebirth , massive L take
fromsoftware is getting niche again
Hearing the attack on Dawntrail, while playing it and going "wow I can see that, valid attack"
Elden sweep!
wayfinder does not look like fortnite or world of warcraft
THANK YOU!

Hot take: since silent hill 2 didn’t get nominated, i absolutely believe elden ring should win again.
1. Because it would be incredibly funny
2. Because the second best game on the list, wukong, was just kind of a 7/10 at best.
Just curious, why is Wukong a 7/10? I also don't believe is a Masterpiece, but it still somewhat great.
@ it’s a boss rush with like 100 bosses but 80% of them are bad-mediocre. That’s unacceptable.
Let's be honest, you haven't even played any of the other games except SOTE, so your opinion is kinda lobsided
@ hmm let’s think for 2 seconds…
You’re wrong. I played most games on the list except astro bot.
Why do you think i say silent hill 2 should’ve been nominated? Are you seriously this dense?
@@Stanzbey69 You played MOST except Astrobot, what does that even mean, did you mean all? And I haven't even mentioned SH2, I think it and Stellar Blade should be on there instead of SOTE and Wukong. I meant your opinion is lobsided on the other games if you think Wukong is better than Astrobot, Balatro, FFReb(haven't played myself) and Metaphor
If Elden Ring can't be nominated because it's built on the base game and not unique enough then why tf was God of War Ragnarok nominated?
what a stupid argument to make... You can pick up ragnarok and play it, try that with SotE and dont get me wron SOTE/ER are incredible and deserve its recognition
SotE is literally attached to a base game. it, by definition, is not a new game. Ragnarok, like it or not, is objectively a new game
It's not really about the amount of content, it's the fact that SotE requires ER to even function. It is not a separate game, it's a DLC for an existing game that already won GotY.
What are you talking about? You can play Ragnarok without having GoW 2018
