    Nice finds, young man! The eagle button looks like the type that had a ring through the back and, I was told many years ago, was later than the civil war....but that's been many years ago. The "grape shot" is nothing like the type I've dug from civil war sites....they were all smaller solid lead shot and the canister shot was solid iron....not sure what yours is. The bullet looks very similar to a .38 or .44 Sharps - Gomez and Mills multi groove variant. The "cartridge" case on them was untreated paper. They were considered sporting rifles and were used during the Civil War...at least that's what it looks like. Great finds! Thanks, as always, for letting us tag along... very much appreciated! Take care, be safe and God bless!

    Great hunts there Mike! Love the military button of course! Definitely looks like a grape shot! I wish I could just go into any park here I'm Massachusetts bit every town has different laws. Near Boston area, forget about it 😆 it's all protected. I used to dig at park near me with a permit but then the city stopped doing permits and voted it illegal to dig! Such a bummer. Fun watching your videos for a good time now. Is the shot hollow??? If so, there were small grenades about that size during the French & Indian War period and possibly up to the Revolution. Had a fues that was hand lit carried by special troops. Good example of such a small grenade is in the Fort Legioner Museum in Pennsylvania... However all examples were made of iron. Something to look into.

    • @DigginDuo
      @DigginDuo  3 месяца назад

      Thanks Douglas, really appreciate that and glad you enjoyed it. Judging from its weight, it could be somewhat hollow enough for powder but I’m pretty sure it’s lead.

    The muffin type button appears to be NY Militia officers. With buttons it’s always about backmarks/makersmarks. I would gently clean the back and see if there is one. If there is it should authenticate it and give a general time/era for it. As far as the lead ball weigh and measure it. There are various “shot guide” websites for 17th to 19th century projectiles. Shot were made with specific sizes. Even with the corrosion it should fall within the tolerances if it is a military projectile.
