- This ND Mazda MX-5 Miata features a host of performance upgrades by known MX5 tuners Flyin' Miata from Grand Junction, Colorado. FIrst and foremost, this kit features, primarily, the Edelbrock E-Force Supercharger, tuned by BBR, good for 200 WHP on an otherwise stock ND. the roads out here are surprisingly shitty...like super surprising. I have lived in 6 different states and these roads out here will blow a suspension in a heartbeat. If you car can survive the interstate table tops then it will definitely meet its death from the natural speed bumps. Cracks are the least of your worries out here.

$5k for a warrantied SC upgrade is pretty decent. No, it doesn't make big numbers. But you don't need big numbers for such a light car.

Years ago while broke I decided to home brew a turbo kit for my 96 Miata, don't ask me why I did that while broke. Anyway Keith was on miatanet and was always super helpful even though I was not buying one of their kits. I maybe spent 60 bucks buying stuff like odd fittings from them. I"ve never forgotten how helpful he was,glad to see he"s still helping to make Miatas quicker.
Some of these comments... No one is pulling off a v8 or k swap for $5k.
K20? Not sure if serious. Nearly as heavy as a v8, less torque than the miata engine and only 30 more hp to the wheels.

garf117 you can get almost that much with bbr/flyin miata's naturally aspirated tune so I don't really understand the supercharger.

falagarius theres a 2010 turbo miata in raleigh for 10 grand. Can probably get it for 9 and it has 55k miles. It’s very clean.

Well I can tell you since making the switch my balls have been thanking me ever since.. hand fitted on deez nutz by Matt himself. He has a gentle Kung Fu like grip that is very relaxing and stimulating as well. He moisturizes...

I've been driving a supercharged NA Miata for years, and I agree that the a positive displacement supercharger really doesn't change the character of the car at all. Power is still linear. There's just more of it. Not like a turbo where you can have lag, then get hit with a ton of power. The predictable power delivery is great for drifting.

My question is does the supercharger play nice with the hot cams that flyin miata has or if you already have the hot cams would you need to go back to stock cams to install the supercharger.
I wish people would pay attention when others are talking. Matt asked him how much a stock Miata makes To The Wheels, to which he replied, 150. A stock Miata makes 155 HP at the crank, making this, according to the Flying Miata spokesperson's figures, the most efficient drivetrain in automotive history. The real numbers are more like 75 extra hp to the wheels, not 50.

Or.... Mazda does as most manufacturers do these days and under reports claims. Or it was a strong engine. For most manufacturers, they report the minimum numbers the car will produce. A strong motor could easily do more than the claims. Most N54 BMW 335i will produce more than the factory claims at the wheels.

the 2018's have big discounts now cause of 2019 hype and you can use that money for a supercharger
2.0 ND Miata makes 155-162 at the crank so probably like 130 whp, not 150. Whereas this S/C one makes about 235-240 at the crank. A chunky upgrade on a small, light car like this.
El Boto Owners tend to see dyno reads at 140 whp in stock cars pretty consistently. Of course it depends on the dyno, but that 140 mark +/-2hp seems reproducible. So pretty low drivetrain power loss :)

With maybe ~260 crank HP but only 2300 lbs curb weight, this should be noticeably faster than a WRX or 370Z, both of which weigh about 1000 lbs more.

I still can't get over how good these cars sound for a 4 banger, even stock.
Then adding boost and getting 200whp puts it right about where I'd want to be power-wise in that light of a car. Fast enough to have a lot of fun, but not so crazy that you'll put yourself through a hedge if you sneeze while accelerating up an on-ramp

The engine on this thing has a comperession ratio of 13:1. Did they change the cylinder head?
Cause it seems impossible to not having knocks using pump gas only!
Update: I found out that skyline engines in Europe has a comperession ratio of 14:1!!!!

Compression is handled by infinitely variable valve timing and ecu control. Knock is not an issue.
The SC is putting out 14psi of boost.

I'm in heavy white tail country, here in TN, and the 2 things that give a motorcycle rider here the worst anxiety attacks are deer and other drivers. Mostly because if there's a wrong thing to be done, both can be counted on to find it and do it.

Why not just LFX swap it? For the thief prices Flyin Miata is charging for forced induction, you can LFX swap it for a couple grand more. Have 300+ whp and not have to worry about your car being compared to a stock WRX or 350z in performance. What a joke. I love my ND but Ill be the first to say the Skyactiv motor for power is a joke, you want economy or you want power?
The car is cool and all but I wouldn't pay $4400 in upgrades to only gain 50 extra HP. Seems like a rip off. The kit cost more than a 9th gen Si kit would and the 9th gen Si would get a 100-150 HP gain. Maybe it's acceptable because of the power-weight ratio.

Im sorry, but I dont believe the Dyno figures. They made 160HP at the flywheel, there is no way the drivetrain loss is only 10HP (6.25%).

So this Edelbrock is to the ND as the Jackson Racing supercharger is to the NA? Gotta see how the turbo will do. I reckon for non Cali people that they can be a bit more adventurous on the power. According to the Edelbrock page their tune is worth 190 whp.

In the UK BBR do an ND turbo conversion- stage 1 has about 250 bhp, you can get the kit imported into the US too.
The stock gearbox is made of paper mache and you want to add MORE power? Lots of tears incoming.

The 124 just needs a tune dude, and then it works on both top and low, and putting out significantly more power than the Miata. You can't just tune that into an NA motor.
Bryan at Fab9 with their tune can net you closer to 75whp gains. Not to mention another 400 rpm of revs.

Wonder if these kits work on other skyactiv engines? My wife's mazda3 has nearly the same engine as the ND miata...
Why wouldn't they?
In the Mazda3, the engine is mounted horizontally instead of longitudinally. Space and fitment are likely an issue, and there seems to be little information on the interwebs regarding differences between the two engines making it hard to know how "plug and play" it would be.
I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they release the SAME kit for the Mazda 3, 6, CX, etc.
There aren't many people racing Mazda 3's, unlike the MX-5. It makes sense for companies to make the kits for the Miata first.
It looks like FM stopped selling the supercharger kit. Don't see it on their website anymore.
Would have been nice to actually hear the L/100km figure rather than the unnecessary bashing of the scale.
