I always laugh when guys in CA talk about how a car handles bumps, like "Here comes a bump, let's see how the car responds..." Here in Jersey we're like, "Here comes a smooth section of road, let's see how the car responds..."
the roads out here are surprisingly shitty...like super surprising. I have lived in 6 different states and these roads out here will blow a suspension in a heartbeat. If you car can survive the interstate table tops then it will definitely meet its death from the natural speed bumps. Cracks are the least of your worries out here.
Here I am thinking about selling my S2000 and making this happen. All the while a supercharger sits in my garage waiting to be installed. Soon I will have power!
Engineering Explained love your Chanel, I'd love to see you own a super charged miata, would be unique to a Chanel that actually puts out good content!!!!
Years ago while broke I decided to home brew a turbo kit for my 96 Miata, don't ask me why I did that while broke. Anyway Keith was on miatanet and was always super helpful even though I was not buying one of their kits. I maybe spent 60 bucks buying stuff like odd fittings from them. I"ve never forgotten how helpful he was, glad to see he"s still helping to make Miatas quicker.
I've been driving a supercharged NA Miata for years, and I agree that the a positive displacement supercharger really doesn't change the character of the car at all. Power is still linear. There's just more of it. Not like a turbo where you can have lag, then get hit with a ton of power. The predictable power delivery is great for drifting.
I still can't get over how good these cars sound for a 4 banger, even stock. Then adding boost and getting 200whp puts it right about where I'd want to be power-wise in that light of a car. Fast enough to have a lot of fun, but not so crazy that you'll put yourself through a hedge if you sneeze while accelerating up an on-ramp
I wish people would pay attention when others are talking. Matt asked him how much a stock Miata makes To The Wheels, to which he replied, 150. A stock Miata makes 155 HP at the crank, making this, according to the Flying Miata spokesperson's figures, the most efficient drivetrain in automotive history. The real numbers are more like 75 extra hp to the wheels, not 50.
Exactly what i was saying in a reply above.. im sooo dumb founded when i hear things like that and then i go to the comments... and like me and 2 other people out of thousands actually picked up on that...people dont pay attention to shiz.. lol
Or.... Mazda does as most manufacturers do these days and under reports claims. Or it was a strong engine. For most manufacturers, they report the minimum numbers the car will produce. A strong motor could easily do more than the claims. Most N54 BMW 335i will produce more than the factory claims at the wheels.
There are many cars in this thread that base lined close to 150 whp. forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?s=0973a5f8e4ecaa9919adda8e94b06094&t=636746&page=2
2.0 ND Miata makes 155-162 at the crank so probably like 130 whp, not 150. Whereas this S/C one makes about 235-240 at the crank. A chunky upgrade on a small, light car like this.
El Boto Owners tend to see dyno reads at 140 whp in stock cars pretty consistently. Of course it depends on the dyno, but that 140 mark +/-2hp seems reproducible. So pretty low drivetrain power loss :)
Hey, Matt. Could you recommend a Vincero watch for my balls? I want something with a bold look that gets noticed in the locker room, yet comfortable enough to wear while playing tennis or sailing on my yacht. Does the band breathe well?
Well I can tell you since making the switch my balls have been thanking me ever since.. hand fitted on deez nutz by Matt himself. He has a gentle Kung Fu like grip that is very relaxing and stimulating as well. He moisturizes...
Matt is so spot on when it comes to the OEM Fiata power band. It's only midrange... I wouldn't call it a disaster though. This just means Matt should drive a worked Fiata :D
My question is does the supercharger play nice with the hot cams that flyin miata has or if you already have the hot cams would you need to go back to stock cams to install the supercharger.
malkionx I was woken by my bowels abruptly early morning. 12:30pm here please excuse my impatience. Can I still be in the Club? Sometimes I even shit 3 times per day
Thanks, Matt for this video! I've been waiting for a review for the Elelbrock Supercharger. I'm looking towards getting it for my ND as well (after my factory warranty ends and also when all the kinks are worked out for this kit).
Hey Matt, I just noticed an error in the equipment list of my car - it was on 17x9 6UL wheels, not 8. The BBR turbocharged RF that you drove was on 17x8.
Yes, I did. Total trip was 6,500km via FM in Colorado and then over to LA, up to Monterey for a weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and then home to Edmonton.
the miata is starting to look like a very strong contender for my next car. im still just stuck between the fiesta st and the mx5, the fiesta is cheaper, makes a little more power but is fwd. the miata cost a bit more and makes less power but you get a convertible with rwd. tough choice
Awesome ride and addition. 0-60 could potentially be high 4s now with right driver. I wish you had shown ride w top down so I could have seen that roll bar.
whoa man that was super risky driving alongside those deer while they were still bounding along the side of the road. Deer are known to run alongside the road and then dart out into the road like no F's were given.
Jeff K... the problem with deer is that THEY don't even know where they're gonna go until they've gone there. I'm in heavy white tail country, here in TN, and the 2 things that give a motorcycle rider here the worst anxiety attacks are deer and other drivers. Mostly because if there's a wrong thing to be done, both can be counted on to find it and do it.
This seems pretty sweet, but it doesn't make the noises I like a supercharger to make. Matt's comments about the 124 make me want to see what he thinks of FM's LS Fiatas.

Hi Matt! Can you answer me this question, since you are car guy yourself. Why are Rotrex Super Chargers not used as much as your more conventional Super Chargers? I have read and seen on dyno's that Rotrex S/C'S generally put out more power than any other of S/C. If you do have any knowledge of these could you explain why one it is not as used as other S/C's. One thing I have read is that Rotrex's act more like a Turbo than a typical S/C is there any validity to what I have heard as well? If you respond thank you. If not thank you for putting out fun to watch and informative vids.
Rotrex uses a centrifugal type blower, which yes, is just like the compressor side of a turbocharger. They are used by companies like Vortech and ATI Procharger, among others. Some benefits include smaller size for easy packaging and less weight over the engine. The reason they are not more popular despite higher peak HP numbers, is that they don't make much boost or power down low until they get some good RPM into them. That is the reason that no manufacturer uses centrifugal supercharging in a production car. The area under the curve isn't as impressive. That said, they do make for good drag car setups when tuned properly.
Cool. Thank you for responding in the informative way you did. I used to drive a heavily modified N/A 95 12v VR6 Jetta and on VWVortex there was a post and dyno graph of one on a 12v VR6 and the numbers were highly impressive. I don't remember it losing a lot of power but what I saw is that it had good power in the mid range and in the upper range it made more power. A vid is on here with an Integra TypeR using one on road track with great results. Thank you for the response, it was very thoughtful of you to explain what you did. Have a good night or day whenever you read this.
The engine on this thing has a comperession ratio of 13:1. Did they change the cylinder head? Cause it seems impossible to not having knocks using pump gas only! Update: I found out that skyline engines in Europe has a comperession ratio of 14:1!!!!
Abbas Sadeghi Bajgiran I was thinking the same thing. I think that's why it's such a low power gain. Can't put much boost to a car with that much compression
I always laugh when guys in CA talk about how a car handles bumps, like "Here comes a bump, let's see how the car responds..." Here in Jersey we're like, "Here comes a smooth section of road, let's see how the car responds..."
LOL!
Up here in Toronto also.

LMFAO exactly bro. When we DONT see potholes we gizz our pants
It's a jersey thing
Here I am thinking about selling my S2000 and making this happen. All the while a supercharger sits in my garage waiting to be installed. Soon I will have power!
Why sell the S2000?
Can't wait to see that video!
Engineering Explained -- because he's an idiot. I knew he wouldn't keep the S2000 for long.
Engineering Explained love your Chanel, I'd love to see you own a super charged miata, would be unique to a Chanel that actually puts out good content!!!!
Bad idea, stick with the s2000 supercharged. You're only gonna lose money on a new Miata.
Very Nice. Glad to see our kit on One Take.
Really hope you make one for the new engine!
$5k for a warrantied SC upgrade is pretty decent. No, it doesn't make big numbers. But you don't need big numbers for such a light car.
Baz on Blades perfect bro
I own the 2.0 and youre damn right. 200 sounds perfect for it
Baz on Blades since I live in CA this is the best option for me and I agree I don't need a whole lot of hp
All these cars are underpowered by a good 50 horsepower. A supercharger really wakes these puppies up
Get out of here with your common sense and rational explanation! There are knuckle draggers trying to moan about V8s here...
200whp seems just perfect in the ND.
garf117 you can get almost that much with bbr/flyin miata's naturally aspirated tune so I don't really understand the supercharger.
Simon Liu same
midrange and reability
Simon Liu how much is it to get the naturally aspirated tune? 5 grand and a 2 year warranty for a super charger is a great deal.
Simon Liu the bbr n/a kit is more like 200 at the crank and only half the torque gain
Some of these comments... No one is pulling off a v8 or k swap for $5k.
K20? Not sure if serious. Nearly as heavy as a v8, less torque than the miata engine and only 30 more hp to the wheels.
ACURA NSXT k20 swap ?? Lol yeah right, why waste the time and money
ACURA NSXT
What are you trying to achieve swapping a k20 into it ??
John Krewson built a $7k v8 on his own. $2k off but still comparable...
Machiave11i you need v8 subframe, v8 tranny, v8 rear end $20k minimum
Love that NDs still have metal valve covers.
God bless Flyin' Miata!
Mildly Saluted !!
luimarco PROPAHH
luimarco holy shit never thought I'd see luimarco here.
Please tell me you salute the ND Miata!
Miata is propahhh
luimarco 6 G'z, baby please...
I still can't get over how good these cars sound for a 4 banger, even stock.

A drivetrain designed for ultimate efficiency (read: lightweight) would explain all the ND transmissions grenading LOL
Or.... Mazda does as most manufacturers do these days and under reports claims. Or it was a strong engine. For most manufacturers, they report the minimum numbers the car will produce. We call our dyno the lie detector. Those are numbers we've measured, before and after.
5000$ for a miata supercharger with warranty?? What a deal!!
falagarius theres a 2010 turbo miata in raleigh for 10 grand. Can probably get it for 9 and it has 55k miles. It’s very clean.
Sooooo, not an ND, no warranty, yeah completely comparable.
ProtesttheAntagonist every car they sell comes with a 2 year warranty buddy :)
ProtesttheAntagonist unless it has over 100k miles which the only that is over that is van
200whp for 30-40k my 2016 5.0 makes 430whp with a cai tune and axle back for 40k
2.0 ND Miata makes 155-162 at the crank so probably like 130 whp, not 150. Whereas this S/C one makes about 235-240 at the crank. A chunky upgrade on a small, light car like this.

Nice car....and the fall foliage in the "Forrest" is beautiful.
Thats an amazing kit for 5k and warranty. 200whp is perfect for this thing. Id still do headers and exhaust
waiting on that new 2019 to come out. 30 more horsepower with this supercharger will be insane
It’s still using similar fueling, you can’t really squeeze much more than 200 out
Can't wait to see this kit on a 2019!
Dude is going to see a big boost in business thanks to this vid!
Rode in the turbo car with Jack Baruth @ Miatas @ MRLS. Thank you to Flyin Miata for bringing the cars!
That exhaust sounds great, nice deep tone.
I have been waiting for this video for forever!
Hey, Matt. Could you recommend a Vincero watch for my balls? I want something with a bold look that gets noticed in the locker room, yet comfortable enough to wear while playing tennis or sailing on my yacht. Does the band breathe well?

Matt is so spot on when it comes to the OEM Fiata power band. It's only midrange... I wouldn't call it a disaster though. This just means Matt should drive a worked Fiata :D
Why doesn't FM have the supercharger kit on their website anymore?
These videos make me way fucking happier then they should.
That dark side of the moon is so nice. We have similar taste in watches.
Grand Junction is a beautiful place.
This is truly interesting, I like superchargers. Wondering about longevity.
My question is does the supercharger play nice with the hot cams that flyin miata has or if you already have the hot cams would you need to go back to stock cams to install the supercharger.
Didn’t know Fox made suspension for cars too.
Aren't trucks cars? 😂 but yeah, didn't know it either.
hahahahaha
how is your Mr2 going?
Fox made rally shocks for years before they got into off road
Yea f150 raptor comes factory with fox off road shocks if im not mistaken.
Went to the track with a friend that has almost that exact setup. On the straights, it's neck and neck with my '14 wrx.
2:07 who is the real Matt Farrah ??? the world may never know! XD
Keep the great content coming brother! Great work as always team.
Morning dump squad unite!
UNITED!
malkionx I was woken by my bowels abruptly early morning. 12:30pm here please excuse my impatience. Can I still be in the Club? Sometimes I even shit 3 times per day
✊️
YourBrother all good bro, I shit about 3 times a day too
Unfortunately I didn't have time to take my typical 7:30am 25mins dump 😢😢😢😢
Oh Deer, this a gentlemen dragging a log down the road
With maybe ~260 crank HP but only 2300 lbs curb weight, this should be noticeably faster than a WRX or 370Z, both of which weigh about 1000 lbs more.
Waking up with Matt and the smoking tire and coffee in the morning.
Thanks, Matt for this video! I've been waiting for a review for the Elelbrock Supercharger. I'm looking towards getting it for my ND as well (after my factory warranty ends and also when all the kinks are worked out for this kit).
Jonathan Singh why does your name sound confused
In the UK BBR do an ND turbo conversion- stage 1 has about 250 bhp, you can get the kit imported into the US too.
Good looking car. I dig the new MX5s
4:30 That blue Porsche looks good! Looks like that'll be a promising review too!
assuming those deer would climb or continue straight instead of crossing in front of you was not prudent.
guess how i know...
Someone make a F20/22c swap kit for the ND! Oh yeah, buddy!
those roll bars will really crack up a human cranium in a rear ender.
My dream car right here!
The engine looks stock!! amazing...also sounds stock
Love flying Miata !
From the front it looks like a pocket Viper, it's sexy !
Passengers always giving off that hint of "wasn't expecting a drive like this today" lmao
...got married in Meeker...would've stopped by the shop when we passed through Junction had I known...
living the dream
Hey Matt, I just noticed an error in the equipment list of my car - it was on 17x9 6UL wheels, not 8. The BBR turbocharged RF that you drove was on 17x8.
Bryan at Fab9 with their tune can net you closer to 75whp gains. Not to mention another 400 rpm of revs.
Looks like a happy car!
matt! we need to have him on the podcast!!
Damn... Alberta plates... This car has come a long way for a One Take =)
Yes, I did. Total trip was 6,500km via FM in Colorado and then over to LA, up to Monterey for a weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and then home to Edmonton.
Sounds awesome! Seems like a really well put together car. Thanks for putting on TST and hope it treats you well!
Damn.. I love that Miata. Cool car
Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon.
Dope.
Loving the GS Chrono :)
the miata is starting to look like a very strong contender for my next car. im still just stuck between the fiesta st and the mx5, the fiesta is cheaper, makes a little more power but is fwd. the miata cost a bit more and makes less power but you get a convertible with rwd. tough choice
John Sullivan u want warranty or fun?
I'd jump on a 200whp ND Miata.
Complete with suspension upgrades.
I live in Grand Junction and I LOL'd when Matt said "There are 2 things from grand junction: flying Miata and a gas station" 😂😂
Ethan Kishi Actually, Grand Junction has GREAT mountain biking!
Need him on the podcast!!
Awesome ride and addition. 0-60 could potentially be high 4s now with right driver. I wish you had shown ride w top down so I could have seen that roll bar.
The Adventure Mazda lol high 4s is a stretch, but maybe low 5s
11 minutes, he wasn't overly impressed but he likes the Flyin' Miata guys lol.
whoa man that was super risky driving alongside those deer while they were still bounding along the side of the road. Deer are known to run alongside the road and then dart out into the road like no F's were given.
Couldn't agree more, you have no idea which way they are going to go.
Hella sketch.
Jeff K... the problem with deer is that THEY don't even know where they're gonna go until they've gone there.
I'm in heavy white tail country, here in TN, and the 2 things that give a motorcycle rider here the worst anxiety attacks are deer and other drivers. Mostly because if there's a wrong thing to be done, both can be counted on to find it and do it.
just like bloody kangaroos in australia
I'm just happy us tall blokes can fit in a Miata.
I've heard shorter people complain about it lol
does this unit work for the facelifted engine?
I'm in Alberta too, this spring I want to do a similar mod to a Mazda Miata, either hard or soft top. I'll be looking you guys up once I get it.
Drop me a line via Edmonton's Wild Rose Miata Club.
It's wierd that mazda hasn't made a supercharged version of the miata
How would this pair up with an e85 conversion? 🤨🤤
sounds very good.
Im a sucker for supercharged 4 cylinders. Yes you can make more power with turbos. Less parasitic loss etc etc but damn.
Dam! I wanted an RF but if I can have one in CA with a blower that’s a big plus. And then he says you can get the turbo in CA too. Mind blown.
Does Flying Miata do installation on customer cars?
my mpg went from 35 to 22-25. running 225/45-17 mich pilot s4s.
Coolest bishop I know
lol Matt is turning into an old man, saying "Delightful" all the time
Matt is really reaching in this whole session. He is propping up his guest and making that guest even more stressed out.
Matt is so cool. I’ve been watching for years and he hasn’t disappointed. I need some of those shades you have. Where can I order some?
This seems pretty sweet, but it doesn't make the noises I like a supercharger to make.
Matt's comments about the 124 make me want to see what he thinks of FM's LS Fiatas.
My next vehicle, I am planning to get a Fiat 124 Coupe if they release it. I really want to try out a small sports coupe.
Any toilet paper recommendations? Since everyone dumps while watching your vids ?
joshiemerr
Charmin Ultra Strong
lol its human nature to insult things that make them jealous. the same people that talk about this car being gay are stuck driving their moms 97 ford taurus. let the sad people wallow in their own negativity
Quilted Northern 3-Ply
I just use my ✋ hand. Works great!
I don't wipe.
ND Miata has 150 to the wheels stock?? I thought the 2.0's output itself was 155.
It looks like FM stopped selling the supercharger kit. Don't see it on their website anymore.
Or just buy a 2019 with 180hp for no extra charge with the same warranty
the 2018's have big discounts now cause of 2019 hype and you can use that money for a supercharger
Love it
What do you guys put on waze to go to this road? I went for a drive on sunday, ended up on Muholland dam lol...also ran into some deer during some twisties :o
It's simple Matt... just remember that 8 litres per 100km is almost 30 (US) MPG.
These need to come like this from factory.
Man i wish someone can get that supercharger work on a mazda 3!
This thing is quick
The Edelbrock s/c numbers off their website are for n/a 140 whp, 134 ft-lbs, with s/c 198 whp, 182 ft-lbs. Resulting in a 58 whp and 48 ft-lbs increase. www.edelbrock.com/automotive/mc/superchargers/mazda-miata.shtml
I remember keith tanner hes the guy with George Washington's teeth aaahahaha
would be cool to see some important numbers, 1\4 runs, lap times.
PANAMERA DID NOT PASS ME AT DEPARTURE , I LOVE THIS LIGHT CAR :D (1.5 ND)
Compression is handled by infinitely variable valve timing and ecu control. Knock is not an issue.
The SC is putting out 14psi of boost.
How does the rest of the car hold up with the added power? Would a sturdier transmission be needed?
man wouldn't think i'd want to supercharge a miata but that's not bad. Still a long ways away from ever doing it though.
