Theres a part of me that wishes Bollywood was more like Hollywood in the sense where box office didn’t determine a actor’s legacy, so that talented actors like Varun wouldn’t have to do films like this to become “Superstars”, Shahid Kapoor is probably more talented than 95% of all indian actors including those who have 1000 crore films but no one mentions Shahid in biggest stars list because he hasn’t had the Mass box office success
it is a business. You can't just look at it from an artistic lens. The film industry across the globe does not work that way. Even Hollywood. Tom Cruise, Nolan & James Cameron are the biggest draws in theatres today. They also have a huge reboot/sequel epidemic going on
@@TriedRefusedProductionsobviously your right and i know box office is needed to make all industries work but its just wishful thinking on my part i guess
@@TriedRefusedProductions@TriedRefusedProductions Sure, the remake epidemic is pretty bad, but then again, you have a studio like A24 taking over Hollywood and has had multiple successful releases this year. Smaller films like Anora, Emilia Perez, and Challengers have also done really well. My guess and hope is that Hollywood is realising that their expensive gambits are not working and will move to smaller films.
You mean like how Hollywood mostly churns out sequels, prequels, spin-offs, remakes, or films based on existing IPs, while barely making original movies? Or how they push narratives like forced feminism or LGBTQ representation, along with race and gender-swapped characters? Or the way every film feels like a copy of the last because they follow tired, formulaic plots, with directors having little creative control and action scenes handled by the same teams the studios trust more than the actual filmmakers? Hollywood doesn't make films anymore, they mass-produce content. The Western audience is tired of it, but many in India still seem to idolize it
He probabky wont be, i mean hes a film critic bro..... the film has a very thin storyline.....i mean the making is great but all the early critices mostly focused on the thin thread thing
The thing is Marco is not focused on the story line, like how deep the story is. The focus was on the execution, the brutality and action sequences. The crew spoke of the movie as the most violent movie and that was their aim. I think if one watches it with any other intention, one is going to be disappointed.
Atlee should come up from his old scripts He fooled north audience by making jawan which is mixed fruit juice of all his previous works Now theri Adaption 😂 Atleast kuch naya try karthe
As you mentioned in your earlier videos whenever any creator whether a director or writer adds a remark as if they have cooked something extraordinary the product is quite mediocre. The case and point is abhijay joshi when he said dunki was the best script he had written . In a similar way also promotion materials didn't did much to provide hype . Especially not to mention that animal had significant hype ameliorating with every material.
This is a bigger heartbreak than the one I suffered through this year!! Was really rooting for this to be better, from Jackie's look to wamiqa holding a gun in the poster, I was actually curious to see an improved Theri!! I hope we get better films ahead!
I am not into movies. I just come here to listen to your language, vocabulary, and body language; to learn to how to narrate and crtic about something with such humility; to witness the vastness of your knowledge about various aspects of life, literature, art, philosophy and so on, and how you bring those into your stories; poetically, rationally, artistically, and figureatively. Exceptional.
@orhanghazi2794 We all have our own way of storytelling. I will choose the content and context over the way it's inflected sometimes, especially when the former is overwhelmingly brilliant.
What's this obsession with having a salman khan cameo in films? First Singham Again, now this. Woh bhi bina matlab ke cameos. Nothing to do with a film's story.
5:05 Here I would disagree with you. Varun's non massy image makes this confrontation with Jaggu dada deadlier compared to the original where the minister was just a caricature against the overly powerful Vijay.
Man I am scared for his review. It's our love towards Unni. The story is too weak man. Actually only violence and gore not much story in it I don't know what's he's gonna say.

Now post covid people are updated with all languages films and still these directors have courage to underestimate the Hindi audience. Its high time bollywood should stick with original scripts instead of copy paste.

Sad truth is now that pushpa 2 has become such a success that every other Hindi movie will like to ape these south style movie. I m starting to worry about Bollywood now . Signs are not good.
And the truth is if it was same made in bollywood it wouldn't had crossed 100 crore lifetime but due to tag of South movie, audience is like gawp gawp, achhi to hogi
Well many should realise that pushpa's success is only and only due to allu arjun's stardom, if pushpa was made in south with another star other than allu Arjun it would have plummeted. Let’s just face it. The current crop of Bollywood stars doesn’t have it in them to portray gritty, grungy and larger than life characters on screen. Only Southern actors can carry that off. They have that screen presence that makes you suspend your disbelief despite the outlandish nature of those films. Maybe Salman in the lead role would have been far more convincing, even if maybe repetitive.
Hindi Cinema has the same ability where they don't need to resort to the outlandish. Ranbir in Animal is an example of the same, SRK in Don, Hrithik in War. You are bang on tho about the crop of actors post 2010s
@@TriedRefusedProductionsMy point was about the template of films like these. Bollywood actors can’t carry that off as effectively as their Southern counterparts. Thanks for the reply.
@@TriedRefusedProductions I think Ranveer can pull it off tho... it's just that he's not timing his films correctly... ( or choosing good scripts for that matter )
@@TriedRefusedProductionsthis is a big discussion which you should make a video about. And these bought him huge success and thus created these fancy outlandish over the top hero character of south movies
Theri in itself was an entertaining but an average movie, carried mainly by vijay's charm.... I don't understand the need for remaking it when its not even a great movie originally ... Especially now when everyone has access to every language with subtitles or dubbed versions ... Atleast most telugu tamil movies of big stars are watched by most people all over india these days ....

I thought Baby John was going to be good but Jammy's silence at the start literally told me the story and then when he started talking about the good aspects first my doubt was confirmed 😅😂. BTW i watched this marathi movie called "Hashtag Tadev Lagnam" yesterday and it was a good movie which has sadly flopped thanks to Pushpa2 running wild everywhere and our own marathi film industry not getting any multiplexes and single screen theatres to release their movies.

I completely agree with Jammy. I too had high hopes for this movie but Bollywood disappointed me once again. Why is it again and again, Bollywood cannot deliver a high with a action film even when they have all the elements. The movie has stylized action sequences, multiple entry shots, above average background score but I did not feel excited any time Varun Dhawan was on screen. The main culprits are its screenplay, dialogues and unnecessary songs. I am now afraid that Bollywood is loosing its touch with the audience and making movies that it expects will rake in the moolah. Bollywood just a few years ago had variety, you had romantic comedies, social message movies, comedy movies and so much more. It feels like Bollywood is drowning but it does not want to make a genuine effort to revamp itself. Its been months since I felt excited and happy while I exited any Bollywood movie. Please Bollywood find your groove back in 2025
I was excited for this movie when the teaser dropped. But the songs were pretty bad apart from that BGM . The songs are almost non existent compared to something what Stree 2 did. Every song was a banger . I lost interest hence . I might still watch it later on OTT.

To assess the quality of storytelling in the popular pan-Indian action films from both Hindi and South Indian cinema that have gained mainstream attention post-pandemic, consider watching ten of them consecutively; you will find them to be quite similar. ~Anurag Kashyap
Baahubali, KGF, RRR, Kalki, Pushpa, Animal.... I find no similarities between them! Baahubali - Period war epic saga with inspiration from Indian epics RRR - Alternative Reality / fiction from India's Independence time KGF - A man's quest to conquer the Coal mines and rule the world Animal - a good man who turns psychotic with his Over-obsessed with his Dad Kalki - Religious prophecy blended with Dystopian Sci Fi futuristic world building Pushpa - The rise of a low life coolie turned smuggler due to injustice he faced All these are different and were hit due to different reasons.... Every masala commercial movie doesn't make 1000 cr, only those that have uniqueness in terms of theme, plot, world-building or execution.... blended with great visuals, and an immersive experience. Otherwise even Devara by Jr. NTR or those films by Vijay Thullupathy (Tamil star who tried to succeed Pan India 4 times and failed) would also have made 1000 cr. There are 8-10 reasons why a movie becomes universally appealing. Sometimes it's the subject matter or theme, the directors vision and execution, the technical aspects, the world-building and action choreography, the actors image and charisma, the political messaging, connect to hinterland, the timing of movie and hype before the release. So any successful Pan-Indian film have ticked ALL or MOST of the above reasons, only then it goes on to be that successful. Anurag should come out of his shell, and try to make the next great film rather than making these outdated, and out of touch comments.... 😂🤷

Pushpa and Kgf: A rise and fall story, Terribly wasted villian, extremely loud bgm, physics defying action no uniqueness to it, over celebration of Protagonist, Problematic Romantic themes and girl coating process RRR: An SS rajamouli spectacle, uniqueness to his genre, visual action feast amazing anti hero Arc of Ram Charan, beautiful relationship I agree still over celebration of our leads, extremely loud background music, terrible casting of white actors and a waste in the name of a villian but still it's one of better Indian action films and not at all close to be a perfect film just because US went head over heels for it we have previously seen films like this Jawan & Pathan: bad villian in jawan, good villian in pathaan wasted Terribly in the end, extremely loud bgm 😂, patriotic touch like RRR, physics ki maa ki behen stunts Kalki and Brahmastra: average to good first impression of a fantasy or sci fi genre similarities are terribly written protagonist be it Shiva or Bhairava (nicely written badly acted), glimpses of a promising villian but bad to average villains in the form of Mouni Roy and Chatterjee, some good visuals rest all are copy pasted from star wars, mad Max, district 9, avatar the last Airbender just like Telugu cinema movies stunts are copied by Hong Kong 80s cinema... Animal - absence of basic logic, again some physics defying stunts, a villian terribly wasted in the form of Bobby Deol (no matter how much you overhype him) though film is far from a mass commerical action film but still loud bgm, problematic romantic themes, the film doesn't even justify its core theme of father son dilemma..... I hope you must have understood and the biggest similarities or weakness of all these films and terrible ones that I mentioned that they are always Style over substance......a promising story but disappointing execution this where Lokesh Kanagraj thrives with Kaithi and Vikram (finest mass commerical spectacle with amazing villian great bgm, amazing hope for part 2 a solid protagonist, badass female characters....I hope I made myself clear you pointed their basic plot and themes I told you the similarities in execution Now if you can find differences in the execution of Malayalam cinema movies mostly this year's only Be it Brahmayugam, Kishkindha Kandaam, Marco, Rifle Club, Goat Life, Aavesham, Manjummel boys, Tance, Malik, Kumbalangi nights....go ahead and find similarities watch them all in a row you'll be witnessing only great Stories with varied genres and varied execution and a total justification to it's themes If you have read this comment till the very end then thanks for your time brother cheers.....I rest my case. 🙏

Ugh some of these comments make me wanna die. Why y'all hating on South Film Industries especially Tollywood? Just because Bollywood is trying to copy them? Then why blame Tollywood for that? They will make movies they like and think are good. Instead Bollywood should focus on regaining its lost identity. Look this will sound harsh. But why Bollywood movies get trolled is very much explained by Tigmanshu Dulia who explained instead of making films for the common man of India, Bollywood started making films for NRI's and more modern high class indians. Now this is necessarily not a bad thing but problem came when they completely sidelined the middle class audience and audience from more rural backgrounds. Such people want entertainment from their usual daily monotone lives and why they shift more to South Films. And another issue with Bollywood is unwarranter social themes over and over again. See its not necessarily bad but when you do it so much in a film to the point it becomes overbearing the audience feels frustrated and suddenly it loses relatability. Look at Maharaja. A movie that showed the pain of a father which is relatable for Indian Men and the love he has for his daughter which most Indian men would find beautiful along with many indian women as well. That combined with a slight social message of the sufferings of a rape victim was beautifully depicted in it along with its entertaining plot twists. THAT is a Movie.

True
What Shamshera had done for Ranbeer sir, I think this movie will do for Varun sir😅

😂😂✅
Why??? This is what creativity is nowadays, directors making movies to kiss the actors behind.
@Finnola don't know about it pal, but remaking a decade year old movie. Who's allover on RUclips nd TV and that too with such wrong casting. What the hell were they thinking
Finally someone sensible here
Varun did everything he can! As a South Indian i Approve BABY JOHN! only negative was felt like too many songs which cuts the flow!
They also have a huge reboot/sequel epidemic going on
@@TriedRefusedProductionsobviously your right and i know box office is needed to make all industries work but its just wishful thinking on my part i guess
i agree with you. I think independent movies need to come back in the mainstream arena here
@@TriedRefusedProductions@TriedRefusedProductions Sure, the remake epidemic is pretty bad, but then again, you have a studio like A24 taking over Hollywood and has had multiple successful releases this year.
The Western audience is tired of it, but many in India still seem to idolize it
Father doing everything for one's daughter this genre has been hijacked by ajay devgan, wether its shiva or Drishyam he completely nailed it

And all of them were remakes 😂 ( don’t tell me shiva wasn’t taken from “ taken” 😂 )
Let’s not blame Varun for this. He said in aaj tak interview that he didn’t want to do a remake but Atlee convinced him.
thats the dumbest excuse he can give for his choices
Ye Bollywood ka harkaaten, south ke upar blame charana
if flop then not his fault if hit then he gets credit 🤷
He's just an actor doing his job.
Then why he did coolie no 1 and Judwaa remakes😂😂😂? He cannot be trusted in interviews

You will be thoroughly entertained.🎉🎉
He probabky wont be, i mean hes a film critic bro..... the film has a very thin storyline.....i mean the making is great but all the early critices mostly focused on the thin thread thing
drops first thing tomorrow
The thing is Marco is not focused on the story line, like how deep the story is. The focus was on the execution, the brutality and action sequences. The crew spoke of the movie as the most violent movie and that was their aim. I think if one watches it with any other intention, one is going to be disappointed.

What's this obsession with having a salman khan cameo in films? First Singham Again, now this. Woh bhi bina matlab ke cameos. Nothing to do with a film's story.
And tht too salman doesnt giving a fuck abt those cameos. Absolutely 0 effort
Bhai has been doing cameos since 90s
5:05 Here I would disagree with you. Varun's non massy image makes this confrontation with Jaggu dada deadlier compared to the original where the minister was just a caricature against the overly powerful Vijay.

Im not sure what was the intention of remaking of a 2015 film, which is almost 9 years over, for that period Theri was with the Performance of Thalapathy and emotional connections of characters it was fun to watch. Now post covid people are updated with all languages films and still these directors have courage to underestimate the Hindi audience. Its high time bollywood should stick with original scripts instead of copy paste.
The initial silence spoke volumes😭😂
P.s. It's high time industries stop making remakes and start working on new and diverse scripts.

Marco and Rifle club review, like to know your view of both films.
Marco is one of the first indian movie with violence ( shock value is much bigger) is a good movie with a great prefect classic - Rifle club, the west of western ghat.
So if you think that people watch any garbage that south makes, they watch the garbage which shows their favorite stars, which has stars that they love .
@@sughoshbharadwaj2828 yeah and telungu audience are star worshippers and their all movies are like over the top masala movies and now they are gaining their market in to North as well...

You look like bjp gomutra 😅
@@TriedRefusedProductionsthis is a big discussion which you should make a video about. This larger than life hero thing was invented by rajnikanth in South cinema is the early 80s because he wanted to had the screen presence of big b but he didn't had physical presence so he created these innovative ways to make him look big.

Your straight face in the beginning was hilarious😂😂😂
Bro, instead of salman khan, imagine, just IMAGINE, if they somehow managed to get a thalapathy cameo. Even as an afterthought, it would've been the best kind of fan service.
I was lucky enough to watch Theri 2,3 weeks back and it was good if not great.
Marathi movies have been good since the start of industry.

In february, when announcement dropped - i was actually pumped up expecting a to-the-point action flick. They turned this into a maximalist commercial film with love song and chamak-dhamak. They could have kept it simple and slick, rather going maximalist with everything.

The mother scene in KGF 1 was advised by someone and it was reshooted, the rest is history.
Still rooting for Varun's hardwork 🥺
Please Bollywood find your groove back in 2025
It is because the actor is Varun Dhawan..
Put Allu or Vijay in it.. people will be glued. 😆
Remember when movies like mai hoon na..,dhoom.., agnipath.. sulthan were celebrated...were is bollywood headed

Baahubali - Period war epic saga with inspiration from Indian epics
RRR - Alternative Reality / fiction from India's Independence time
KGF - A man's quest to conquer the Coal mines and rule the world
Animal - a good man who turns psychotic with his Over-obsessed with his Dad
Kalki - Religious prophecy blended with Dystopian Sci Fi futuristic world building
Pushpa - The rise of a low life coolie turned smuggler due to injustice he faced
All these are different and were hit due to different reasons....
@050138 he does needs to make a comeback with a great movie like his OG days and not through these interviews yes...I agree with you but my guy he is not wrong with pan India films I means not just the films that got massive success but even those who tried to project and aim their films as pan indian film that will cause if it's a mediocre films....I will put Baahubali 1 and 2 out because I truly believe it's telegu Cinema's Magnum Opus and genuinely told a very good story...but one common theme you'll find in these films be it the films you mentioned or even Devara, Jawan, Pathaan, Kabzaa, Liger, Kanguva, Martin, and Many more the similarities are Extremely Loud and Irritating background music to a point it's deafening, A terribly wasted villian, Absence of Basic logic, Physics Defying stunts, Problematic Romantic themes of coating and Falling in love with a girl, unnecessary jump cut to a song, over celebration of the protagonist...these are the similarities you mentioned the basic plot of the movies that truly doesn't even justify its own theme......
Pushpa and Kgf: A rise and fall story, Terribly wasted villian, extremely loud bgm, physics defying action no uniqueness to it, over celebration of Protagonist, Problematic Romantic themes and girl coating process
RRR: An SS rajamouli spectacle, uniqueness to his genre, visual action feast amazing anti hero Arc of Ram Charan, beautiful relationship I agree still over celebration of our leads, extremely loud background music, terrible casting of white actors and a waste in the name of a villian but still it's one of better Indian action films and not at all close to be a perfect film just because US went head over heels for it we have previously seen films like this
Jawan & Pathan: bad villian in jawan, good villian in pathaan wasted Terribly in the end, extremely loud bgm 😂, patriotic touch like RRR, physics ki maa ki behen stunts
Kalki and Brahmastra: average to good first impression of a fantasy or sci fi genre similarities are terribly written protagonist be it Shiva or Bhairava (nicely written badly acted), glimpses of a promising villian but bad to average villains in the form of Mouni Roy and Chatterjee, some good visuals rest all are copy pasted from star wars, mad Max, district 9, avatar the last Airbender just like Telugu cinema movies stunts are copied by Hong Kong 80s cinema...
I hope you must have understood and the biggest similarities or weakness of all these films and terrible ones that I mentioned that they are always Style over substance......a promising story but disappointing execution this where Lokesh Kanagraj thrives with Kaithi and Vikram (finest mass commerical spectacle with amazing villian great bgm, amazing hope for part 2 a solid protagonist, badass female characters....I hope I made myself clear you pointed their basic plot and themes I told you the similarities in execution
Now if you can find differences in the execution of Malayalam cinema movies mostly this year's only
Be it Brahmayugam, Kishkindha Kandaam, Marco, Rifle Club, Goat Life, Aavesham, Manjummel boys, Tance, Malik, Kumbalangi nights....go ahead and find similarities watch them all in a row you'll be witnessing only great Stories with varied genres and varied execution and a total justification to it's themes
If you have read this comment till the very end then thanks for your time brother cheers.....I rest my case. 🙏
It is not Atlee's film it is Kalees's... Atlee is the producer. So don't expect the film to have Atlee's touch.... 8:11
