It was my first year attempting to grow garlic. I should have documented my progress for others to learn from my experience of what NOT TO DO. It was a fail for me. I google how to cure bulbs and your video popped up. Having watched your video, I know the whys of my outcome. I subscribed. Wish I came across your videos last year.

Wonderful video, full of good information. I was hoping to hear how to store the bulbs for planting later in the year.
Thanks Joan... Storage is easy.... As long as it's not in the oven or in the freezer, they are getting planted in like 2 months. That's why I didn't mention it because the timeline is so short, it kind of doesn't really matter.
I pulled my garlic out sometime in March because they had fallen over. They were brown and well. I did get some at harvest out of it. This year I’m going to plant a lot more!

@@TheRipeTomatoFarms I’m growing hard and soft neck in my vegetable garden here in Sydney Australia lucky to be able to grow both kinds, traditionally only grew soft until I tried hard neck. Harvest will be in November/December as to all the onions.

I store most by peeling, processing to coarse mush then make little pucks with s small cookie dough scoop. Flash freeze then put into a bag in the freezer. Instant garlic when needed and no storage worries once cured a bit.

I keep about 6-8 bulbs fresh, about 100 cloves for fall planting. The rest follows the same treatment @janw491 does.
This is great information I’ve watched you before on garlic. I wish you would have mentioned something on fertilizing garlic and when to do it.

HI JEFF, We lost out on garlic, onions, potatoes, strawberries and lettuce, okra, and corn this year. If I'm still here next year, we will try again hopefully. Thanks for all your teachings. Love yall 💓

This was my first year growing garlic. I only grew 8 bulbs but they did great. I just finished the curing process last night. I grew German Extra Hearty and Northern White. I am in northern Ohio so I picked those thinking they would do well with our cold winters. I have ordered some different ones for this year to see how they do also. I am pretty excited to see and hopefully I will never have to buy garlic again.

I love the Music hardneck variety and wow this year's crop is phenomenal! I mulched with tons of chopped leaves and chopped weeds in late October. That are still very green with only a few leaves dying off so I harvest 100 at a time. My only issue is that it has been rainy so much so not able yet to harvest when soil is dryer. Thanks for the tips Jeff and appreciate you! 👍🌱🥰 Have you ever pickled garlic? I tried it last year and it's very good.

Thanks! There is no prep for planting! Don't even remove the papery coatings... Just separate the cloves and plant!

This is my first year growing garlic. Just waiting for them to die back. Bulb size is good and I'm excired to harvest. Will definitely save some to plant late September. Thank you for all your info.

My wife actually asked me to grow "Black Garlic" for her, thinking it grew that way as apposed to being aged. 🤦🏻♂️😂
Oops, I hung my garlic to dry like I did my onions, bulb up sitting in a rack with leaves hanging down. 😬 One site said to let cure 2 weeks...I hope once I trim and clean these bulbs they will keep well.

Can I plant regular store bought organic garlic cloves?
Is I just pulled out one, can I just go ahead and eat it? Also the ones that are steadily growing....can we eat the leaves with stopping the growth of the bulb?
Getting really close to harvest time here. Maybe 1/3 of the leaves are yellowed and starting to die back. Can't wait for harvest time.
I still have garlic from last season in the pantry and it looks great. Thinking about experimenting and making black garlic with it, maybe.

Seaweed and kelp extracts work great.
My garlic never grew i.thinknthe weatherwas just to.wet we had bad winter here in uk.willtry again only this time put in the shed.
Remember, it does need to get cold...basically freeze, to grow properly into a bulb. Best of luck!
This was my fist time and I planted 11 cloves and only got 3 Not sure what happened. I live in Southern California and grew the soft neck variety. I watered them periodically so maybe that was too much
??? Any advantage to leaving them in the sun for a few days?
I like to cure them slowly...baking in the sun I've had a few rot quickly. This time of year, the sun is SCORCHING.....no freshly-harvested crop wants to bake in it.
So in California am I out of luck or is there a variety that doesn’t need that frozen time?
I’ve heard you can put them in the freezer to fake them out 😉
Yes krazycorw, all softneck varieties of garlic (there's 2 types of garlic) can all be grown in warm climates with no chilling period! 🙂

I'm very sad this year out of 150 heads, only 22 harvested. I know the problem and it's not happening again. root rot, over watering, and the person entrusted to look after, totally my bad. so sad starting from scratch again. the gardening game live and learn

I’m still waiting for mine to die back, my scapes have been collected, powdered. Just waiting for the bulbs to mature. We’ve had so much rain, I fear I may not have a dry day to harvest anytime soon.

They flower about 4-6 weeks BEFORE harvest...so no, you haven't missed a thing.
I was tricked
By garlic?
We’ll, I made a few mistakes… this is my first time growing garlic. I harvested my Red Russian hardneck about a month after cutting the scapes, and only after the bottom 2 leaves had dried up. I did not stop the watering (drip) before harvesting. And I used a garden fork to help loosen up the soil. But I only had one bulb that was split!! It’s been drying in my shed with all the windows open, but not hanging them bulb down (I’m drying them on an open tray). It’s not cool with the heat wave, but it’s pretty good and the best I got. The papery covering is coming along nicely. I harvested my soft neck last week. I’ll give it another week or two, and likely braid them for storage. The one split one tasted amazing though, and most are the same size as your. But I have a question: what do you do to the bed after you’ve harvested. Mine has some straw, but is somewhat dug up. I’m hoping not to add another to my list of mistakes!! I’m not planning on planting in it (I don’t know what to plant), and will likely plant onions next year. My onion bed across the path is doing nicely now too!! I I hope you give us some tips on harvesting onion before then!! Thanks for all your information. I’m a newbie Orchardist who wants to plant things around my new trees…
They are pretty forgiving larry, I've made all those same mistakes 10x over, ha ha! For my spent bed, I still have 2 months of growing left....so I can plant peas, radishes, brassicas, etc. Nice to squeeze in another crop because garlic took up residence for soooooo long!
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms I’m a little reluctant to put something in the ground… I don’t have much experience, and I’m gone for 2 weeks coming up in a few weeks (meeting grand babies I haven’t met yet!). I’m thinking a layer of compost and a layer of straw!!
