My brother and I come from a family of racecar drivers and builders and we dream of just being able to build a car and track it. All we want to do is be able to get into grassroots and travel to all these events. Even though we both have full-time jobs, we unfortunately dont have the budget to even buy a project car let alone build one. Seeing the stuff that you guys at Lone Star create, as well as the channels like Taylor Ray and the LZs, it keeps the dream alive for us. I really respect how much passion you pump into the grassroots drift scene and I hope you guys keep doing it.
J L I am 19 I bought a $2000 240sx (you don’t always need a gtr or rx7) and I make $20,000 a year and I have built my drift/show car. Don’t make excuses for yourself. Strive for greatness :)
I dont think anyone should start a youtube career just to make money 💰 you should have passion for making videos thats what real art is . And if money comes along down the road great 👍
Ryan keenan the world relies on money that’s our economy without that it would be chaotic so most of us do what’s smart, we do it for the money bye it’s good to be passionate about these things like music but what’s makes all this so great tbh it’s the money always has and always will
Its really great how your take a direct approach to helping the grassroots drifting community. The more I watch the more exciting it gets. Looking forward to see what your doing next.
I'm happy you sat down and made this bud. I've been following you since the last Japan trip with Adam LZ and Taylor. I live in the DFW and I would have never imagined it to grow this fast over the years. I've been thinking the same thing "how do the small garage build drifters make it big time" and also people that dont care to be on youtube suffer. I love the sport but cant afford to just do it for fun. I've been drag racing for years and would much rather drift, but the drag car is more reliable and cheaper to repair. Bro I love the support you give everyone and you speak to the whole drift community in your videos its awesome!!! Thank you for the great videos bud keep it up and EVERYONE ELSE SUBSCRIBE!!!!!!!!!! THIS DUDE MAKES AWESOME DRIFT VIDEOS
try to build a an inexpensive car that fits you best (dont over build). It takes practice to learn how to control a car while loosing control. Once you get it you build up your car to your comfort. As Aaron will mentions in some videos, alot people build their car over powered because they think thats the best route to take and its not. go watch Adam LZ, watch how he progressed over just the past year of him learning. He has a low powered car that fits him great but now is building bigger because it became less challenging for him. This is probably the best car sport in the world (My Opinion) and deff the funnest. Have fun and be safe bud.
You CAN build a driftcar to be reliable. There was a local team here that dominated Pro Am, and they were basically doing just routine maintenance unless somebody hit them in tandem. It can be done if you don't go too extreme with things. Keep it simple!
This is gonna sound stupid, but you could totally leech off someone if you wanted to try. Have you seen how Albertobigboost from Adam LZ's channel can now probably live off youtube. He started by just working for Adam, but Adam gave him way more exposure than he could get by himself.
Aaron you are trully a insperation for the Drifting scene, If I had the power to do so I would give your channel 1 million subscribers. You deserve it!!
Keep it up dude! I love what you do for the culture! You seem like a really good dude with a big heart and I love to see that anywhere in the world, but especially in one of my favorite disciplines. Drifting is such a small community of people that we have to work together to bring it to the masses. Plus I genuinely enjoy watching your videos just for the entertainment.
Love how your willing to tell us how much the channel makes in ad rev. Not many people are willing to do that and it helps us put numbers to things and make big decisions :p
What brought me to your channel is I heard you’re very inspirational to the “blue collar” type of guy and I love it man! Fully support your motives, and I hope I can make it down to your event in Texas one day. This video has answered many questions I’ve asked myself and is very helpful. Thank you!
Keep it up! You make awesome videos and make me want to move to Texas so I can drift with you guys. Thanks so much for your dedication and selflessness....please don't stop.
sponsors need to rock you out with tee's and hats (i remember you said you dont have the $ to buy all the tees but would love to do it). your BC Racing tee advertises the brand without being an eyesore or taking away from the content. i love it, i hope businesses realize how easy it is to legitimize their brands and gain $ without having to shovel consumers cheesy ads and spam. keep up the great work.
I dig it and 100% agree... I'm pretty sure RUclips and future competitors are the next "cable tv." Being someone who's mid 30's, I wish I could have had more content like this to push me to invest in myself more. With that said... I also agree Taylor should go to Japan, it's an investment in your career sir!
Your channel deserves way more attention in my opinion, it's driver and novice friendly and it always such good content by far my favorite channel on here! Keep up the amazing work, hope to meet you someday!
Nice video, Aaron! I've enjoyed hearing your thoughts and seeing you encourage our community grow and adapt to new opportunities to connect, market ourselves and thrive! Being sustainable in drifting is so important and it often takes experience for people to see that. It's getting more challenging to stand out as more people start down this path, but I think there's still an opportunity to succeed with discipline and consistent video releases. I hope we can work together on a project in the future!
Lone Star Drift well if you keep on your current path I think you can get as large as some of the other drift channels like noriyaro or more skids. The content you are producing is really killer and I love how devoted you are to grass roots, keep it up :)
I feel like the social media marketing is so burnt out at this point tho.. Seems like everyone is trying to make a channel now or start a blog. Its almost to late? How long till people stop caring
I do agree that youtube is definitely a crowded space. But then the question of what other options are there comes up? I don’t think there will ever not be a market for drifting videos and vlog channels like that.
I agree that there is a lot of competition and anyone starting out trying a typical route (gaming channels, popular car builds, etc) will find themselves in other peoples shadows. I think one trick now is to find smaller more niche audiences and appeal to them to build the channel, then once you have the backing and an amount of guaranteed views you can branch out and include the more common videos/subjects.
Big agree here. I may be biased, but I absolutely hate Vlog style vids. I wanna see you build, what/how you're building, & the end result/driving. Not to mention RUclips is absolutely saturated with car vloggers
how the hell do you only get like 20k views for real legit info that actually helps compared to these kids barely showing drifting or even working on cars that get like 100k views i dont understand lol p.s great vids!
Hopefully more drivers will take the advice as i think you are spot on right in what you are saying, plus if they are drivers from the lonestar series for example, then with people like you (and your channel) they already potentially have a big audience as a boost to kick start them which a lot of others may not ever get that chance.
Love it good luck. Never made a Buck just started out lol I go to a roundabout late late 🤙 in a big ass industrial site off a motor way (not saying the meet) with my pals listen to our tunes and have fun lol. I work for petrol and tyres yay
The most difficult thing I'm facing is if you see my channel name, I'm a truck driver and it takes about 17X as long to build my drift car because I'm on the road for a month or two at a time with 3 days off... but after I end my lease on my semi it'll be mine and will almost have a pro rig so that's what I'm working on for the time being. Thank for all you are doing for the average Joe drifter out there!
Great video, it feels like the last few have been leading up to this one. (Even if you wrote this out before making them) Your RUclips revenue took me by surprise, I thought you would be making more than that. I get that the it works as advertising though and gives the sponsors more for their investment, rather than like a typical channel. You mentioned the main four social media platforms and their different uses. What do you (or anyone else reading this) think is going to be the next big thing? it already feels like there are established users on each of these platforms and whilst that doesn't make it impossible for anyone just starting out it does feel like lost of little fish competing in a big pond. Finally thanks for making these videos, its great to get the tips but also the blunt reality that this isn't suitable for everyone and the time could be spent better else where.
RUclips is still going to grow 10x bigger I think, and it is still early days. Plus, it doesn’t really matter when you get in if you love doing it. I used to pay Vimeo to distribute my stuff, and would probably pay RUclips too, instead of them paying me. So it tells you how I value the model, etc. getting paid from them is a rad concept but not even necessary
Awesome video, always coming out with great content! I agree with a lot of the stuff you said. Specially the amount of time it takes to edit the videos.
@@kingvega0218 a little late answer but yes im too 16 and cant figure out what career i want recently i watched a lot of drifting and i think that its a really cool thing but a hard think to maintain as career for sad
+Lone Star Drift subscribed, haven't watched too many videos yet and I'm not a drifter, but I'm sure there's a group of people in the middle ground that'll never be pro, but can afford to have some fun, good luck making rules to limit them and spending! I spend $10k+/yr endurance road racing a shitty 150hp neon with Chumpcar, which is cheap for the track time (100 hrs) and I love it even though there's a C6Z in my garage and a LS E36 project rotting away (maybe a future drift car).
No problem it was very enjoyable and a good insight for grass root drifters on options to expand their drifting careers without necessarily going competing in pro
Just be a one man team, camera kits are $400 and below, I use an older cannon t3i and my iPhone, as for editing there’s lots of information and educational classes scattered on the internet, and as for money just focus on 1 project/track/drift car at a time to minimize cost as well as make double of what your yearly bills are. But as for time, that’s completely up to the person wanting to create, there’s always time if you have the effort
Thank you for sharing some of the behind the scenes. I love hearing your share your knowledge and experience. I'd love to hear more :) What did you do before you got into the drift scene?
See the idea there is to begin to increase your efficiency with the things you can't afford to be wasting time on. Learn how to edit faster, learn how to start a basic edit in your head before you start, and the biggest thing I've learned is to think about what you want to shoot before you go somewhere, and take that all down into multiple edits for multiple channels.
Fantastic video, so the negativity in this comment isn't directed at you; It's extremely depressing to me that grassroots guys can no longer really make a living based on driving skill, practice, & passion alone.
Great insight into what it takes to get good content out, I'd love to post vlogs but just wouldn't have the confidence to talk to a camera, us Irish are pretty camera shy, not too many Irish drifting vlogs so there could be an opportunity there.
HEY AYE AYE - RON I keep trying to watch your new videos but they keep getting taken down? I just want my drift knowledge!!!! - Keep up the good work and I cant wait for Japan!!!!!!!
Hey, what happened to the new vid about fd? I watched it but got an error when I tried to like or comment... Then it disappeared... Well, what ever happened to it, nail and hammer. And young drivers are few because fd made drifting seem an out of reach goal for regular guys. Thank you tubestars for breaking us out of that thought.
Lone Star Drift that's what I figured, anyway, it was solid, well worded and succinctly executed, happy I got to see it. Can't wait for fall matsuri!! Peace be with you man. And thanks again to you all on the tube for showing us it's not just a rich mans hobby.
P.s loved the back to basics vid. Can’t believe only 31k subs that’s a joke. Oh an judge away RUclips I had a £1k budget and I bought a eunos fo learning 😂 yeah dats right.
I think what you said at the beginning about choosing a 'normal' career being better for some people is not just about natural ability. It is easier to make money at a traditional job, and many people still have time to compete and have a separate career.
This is so true with how social media growth has changed the attainability to become a driver. Check out my channel for grass roots style of car culture. I have track days, canyon runs, build, and street culture content that I make for the passion and hope people share the same passion that somewhat got blindsided with the vlog trend.
I love the outlook you have on drifting. It is a phase unfortunately, and it won't be popular in 5-10 years. This is my own personal opinion obviously. But it's the same thing as when all these "Car Guys" got into the scene with their stanced Civics.
Joseph Soltes I think it's got more time considering it's been around in Japan for a couple decades now. The current media hype around drifting may fade, but it will still be there and can still be successful.
I think pro racing will possibly shrink or change as marketing dollars flood elsewhere for better ROI. When random you tubers have a larger distribution than Formula D you will start to see marketing dollars look for a more efficient place to be spent
Lone Star Drift I picture you editing to be alot like Leo in The Aviator... ruclips.net/video/6P1_qp8nYO8/видео.html Haha... Medium chips chocolate chip cookies such luxury!
Great sh*t again, Aaron! I have a tough one for you though, so sit down for this. Most successful RUclips channels seem to be in English. I think it's because ~360 million people speak it as their first language and the total number is about 1.5 billion (20% of all the people in the world). How about Europe, for example? What should you do if you're from a country of under 1.5 million people that has its own language? Hardly anyone speaks it as a second language (a few thousand, tops). So should a person in that situation make it in their native language and use subtitles? Or risk being "a weirdo" to your fellow countrymen by speaking English (if fluent) and using subtitles in your own language?
Go English, your audience use world wide, not really local. You can use your native tongue as a fun aside and do stuff completely in it for fun sometimes, but unless you are only delivering the content to a local audience, or Chinese or something, go English.
Speak English man! People are always interested in what life is like somewhere else. To be honest most people are too lazy to read subtitles. Good luck starting your channel!
respectfully how do you make a selfie vlog for an audience you don't have? if i were to make a selfie video for my 300 subs id feel like a fucking clown? it just seems impossible to look that appealing all on your own on the cheap even if someone is a skilled driver
You don't need 60 videos a year to grow your audience. If you want to build it quicker one way is to collaborate with people that have similar content as you whose subscribers are about 100K. Those people who see you in their videos will want to see what you're up to and sub to you. I'm sure you know this as well but for people who don't this is an idea
And also, have you ever been able to sit through a FD feed? I cant, so boring, soo unimaginative, I normally stop watch before I even see a single run, if they and sponsors want eyes they gotta change that shhh...
RUclips is just getting started, and finding it's feet. Saying youtube is dying is like when Netflix announced they were splitting the DVD mailing business and streaming that they were dying after a month of bad press, then they continued conquering the world! RUclips is going to dominate and continue to dominate, as there is no other platform that really allows self distribution with monetization at the scale of youtube, and I don't think anyone will scale fast enough to make a dent, as youtube can compete with the backing of Alphabet/Google unprofitably forever if it had to.
I'm talking about the smaller people like most of us, RUclips is going more and more mainstream that eventually smaller people that probably have way better content then most like Lone Star Drift here, will eventually not have the slightest chance of growing above 500k not saying Aaron wont, but the algorithm is hacked up to where even RUclips has no idea what it's doing, and the "trending page" is nothing but picked out videos that are channels that are already big and mainstream. and this demonetization crap "Casey Nightstat vs Jimmy Kimmel" where Casey was demonetized for talking about the Vegas shooting and even saying the revenue will go to victims, yet Kimmel did the same thing, it was monetized, and got on trending.... it's not good for the up and comer that actually has content and good quality content non of this point and shoot crap with millions of views I've mathed out my cost per sub and it's literally $15 lol
RUclips is changing and finding new audiences, which may not include you and google doesn't necessarily care. More money is going into youtube channels and you are going to see more and more safe clean mainstream content. The little guys who already established themselves are going to grow but whether it will be harder for new channels to get seen as the landscape changes is unknown.
love how dedicated you are with helping us grassroots/ProAm guys

Really love this video need to get a track car so bad!
thank you for all you do!
Well said!
A lot of people do build “cringe worthy” content. I swear I fast forward through so much shit because it’s just a video of fucking b-roll.
Awesome content! love the info!
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for the compliment. :blushes:
More awkward than a 38 year old bald dude telling kids they can be famous on RUclips?
Lone Star Drift ha ha well I don't think a 32 year old father of two that tries to drift would make for an interesting vlog series 😂😂
HEY AYE AYE - RON I keep trying to watch your new videos but they keep getting taken down? I just want my drift knowledge!!!! - Keep up the good work and I cant wait for Japan!!!!!!!
I put the latest one back up, I have just been making content that sparks a conversation about what is going on in the drift community.
Lone Star Drift oh you are too kind, I shall rest easy, much love from Canada
cant find a channel for TRAK STAR
Just because you aint popping on instagram, doesn't mean you can't have a future in the sport
Thank you for this vid dood
Hey, what happened to the new vid about fd? I watched it but got an error when I tried to like or comment... Then it disappeared... Well, what ever happened to it, nail and hammer. And young drivers are few because fd made drifting seem an out of reach goal for regular guys. Thank you tubestars for breaking us out of that thought.
It became a ton of drama super fast, and that wasn't my intention, so I took it down.
Lone Star Drift that's what I figured, anyway, it was solid, well worded and succinctly executed, happy I got to see it. Can't wait for fall matsuri!! Peace be with you man. And thanks again to you all on the tube for showing us it's not just a rich mans hobby.
Thanks, but remember, it kind of is a rich mans hobby lol! Don't go broke out there : )
What happened to the latest video?
It became a ton of drama super fast, and that wasn't my intention, so I took it down.
P.s loved the back to basics vid. Can’t believe only 31k subs that’s a joke.
Oh an judge away RUclips I had a £1k budget and I bought a eunos fo learning 😂 yeah dats right.
i luv u aaron
Lmao I like how he said this tablet thing 😂
jay zeus the tablet is massive
I think what you said at the beginning about choosing a 'normal' career being better for some people is not just about natural ability. It is easier to make money at a traditional job, and many people still have time to compete and have a separate career.
Its mark wahlberg!! Lmao!
5.5 hours at a time... that might have been me LMAO... i tried to watch the 7 hour trip in one sitting haha
I have never watched the finished version lol, the editing took too much out of me. I am afraid how bad the video turned out lol
Lone Star Drift I picture you editing to be alot like Leo in The Aviator... ruclips.net/video/6P1_qp8nYO8/видео.html
Haha... Medium chips chocolate chip cookies such luxury!
Lone Star Drift correction... haha ruclips.net/video/bSHlqCmEdQQ/видео.html
Other one was likely fitting aswell HA!
That ipad is the size of my car lmao
Lol “tablet thing”
Mark Wahlberg?
Speak English, look what Noriyaro does haha. Even though he speaks English in all his videos he still has a significant Japanese fanbase.
Nate Hamilton
respectfully how do you make a selfie vlog for an audience you don't have? if i were to make a selfie video for my 300 subs id feel like a fucking clown? it just seems impossible to look that appealing all on your own on the cheap even if someone is a skilled driver
How to make a career out of drifting / racing cars: Become a doctor.
Absolutely.
Yes I regularly do stuff with people like Taylor Ray, Adam LZ, etc. you are right it works well, but you also need to create a lot of content too
That dislike guy lied😉😉
U "should" really monitize it
How can I do that?
Lone Star Drift turn monetization on in your settings
If robots served our every need tomorrow. What would you do? Drift till the wheels fell off. Be happy.
FD is F'ed up with how it has become! shame.
Yo cats suck 4real lol. I hate being allergic to them.
And also, have you ever been able to sit through a FD feed? I cant, so boring, soo unimaginative, I normally stop watch before I even see a single run, if they and sponsors want eyes they gotta change that shhh...
It became a ton of drama super fast, and that wasn't my intention, so I took it down.
RUclips is dying, Google is ruining themselves... go to Vid.Me or I hear Amazon is moving to content creation..... not sure about that yet
If the community thinks it's dead it will die! But if we believe and stick around, it will only filter off the weak ones!
Just take a look at the younger generations, they are hooked on RUclips. RUclips will only get bigger while they live
I'm talking about the smaller people like most of us, RUclips is going more and more mainstream that eventually smaller people that probably have way better content then most like Lone Star Drift here, will eventually not have the slightest chance of growing above 500k not saying Aaron wont, but the algorithm is hacked up to where even RUclips has no idea what it's doing, and the "trending page" is nothing but picked out videos that are channels that are already big and mainstream. and this demonetization crap "Casey Nightstat vs Jimmy Kimmel" where Casey was demonetized for talking about the Vegas shooting and even saying the revenue will go to victims, yet Kimmel did the same thing, it was monetized, and got on trending....
it's not good for the up and comer that actually has content and good quality content
non of this point and shoot crap with millions of views
I've mathed out my cost per sub and it's literally $15 lol
RUclips is changing and finding new audiences, which may not include you and google doesn't necessarily care. More money is going into youtube channels and you are going to see more and more safe clean mainstream content. The little guys who already established themselves are going to grow but whether it will be harder for new channels to get seen as the landscape changes is unknown.
Dude stop reading and go with the flow this video is un informative
do a fink...get a track ...
