    I’m still very confused. Why was the driver arrested? I replayed that part about 5 times, but I’m still confused.

    • @officer401
      @officer401  6 лет назад +370

      Test this is actually a very good question. The driver was indeed arrested, but because of his confession, me and the DA's office worked on reducing his charges for giving up his accomplice. If you knew the true details of the case, you would know that he was really not in a position that he wanted to be in. Bad place at a bad time. Not excusing his behavior, but the fact that he gave us the truth saved him a lot of headache.

      officer401 wait so if someone is associated with a crime but they didn’t actually commit the crime what if they didn’t say who they accomplish is would they still get charged (Sorry for my weird writing)

      Link Man101 Yah i wanna know that too, but i think he would if there was incriminating evidence that he was indeed an accomplis of the criminal

      Typically you will be charged for being an accomplice in a serious crime. Whether or not you get a deal is going to depend on your cooperation and involvement. If you do not cooperate you can expect to serve some time.

    • @neurofiedyamato8763
      @neurofiedyamato8763 6 лет назад +36

      I assume he get charged as an accomplice even if unwilling. As the driver, he could of done a lot more to help her. But instead he helped the rapist escape and did nothing to stop his actions of alert others that a crime is going on. Sometimes people don't really know what to do when they are suddenly involved in a crime. That's my take on it though.

      officer401 No, thank you for being awesome. That's why I feel like I have a decent relationship with law enforcement because when I finally reported what happened to me, my county officers jumped on it and helped me even though it was over 5 years ago and not even in their jurisdiction lol. It makes me so happy to see you acknowledging this and showing support

      I wish Officer401 was involved in my case. The man who did it to me is still free. He started doing it to me when I was about seven years old and finally mostly stopped when I was fourteen. Because he stopped about twelve years ago and only one other person has reported him, apparently they don't think he is much of a risk. Even though the statute of limitations doesn't apply, I'm sure it didn't help that I was too scared of him to go to the police and tell them what happened until last fall when I was 26. I'm still scared of him but I'm more scared for other girls he might be hurting.

      I'm also a S.A. survivor and I was scared of what the other officers would think (I know it sounds corny) bc I was well know with the officers since I was a junior officer.
      I was in a similar situation where I heard the responding officer speaking to me but I couldn't respond.
      The officer who was female helped me out so much. She still does. With out her I'm not sure where I would be. (Unfortunately this was also her first case of S.A. in my county)

    I want to thank you for your openness and honesty, for your offering to stand in the way of harm to protect another person with your own life at risk. I offer my condolences for the horrible things you have seen and been through. I hope that it doesn't harden you too much. I have known, and know many good cops/people who act ethically and morally. I've also known those who were hypocritical and over zealous, even vicious. You are the former, and I pray you stay that way, and that you retire intact and live a peaceful life. And stand by your words and convictions. When you are not an officer, you are a citizen. What you work for on the job you may have to fight for later. Best wishes

    Thank you for your compassion. As far as I'm concerned, sexual assault is murder: the life the assaulted person had dies the instant the assault takes place. Life turns into "before" and "after." What occurred can never be erased. The world becomes a terrifying place where it's impossible to feel "safe."
    As a Trauma Emergency Department RN for many years, I performed sexual assault exams on countless women, children and, yes, men. Every single assault victim I came into contact with was broken in a way that could never be repaired.
    There is a special place in Hell for those who destroy a person's life by sexual assaulting them. As one of the comments said, there is no rehabilitation for sexual deviants. They should be executed. End of discussion.

    This reminds me of something that happened when I worked at a convenience store overnights.
    Short form - crying girl comes in to use restroom. I anticipate her wanting phone. She calls mom, boyfriend comes in 3x cursing at her to get in car. I anticipate escalation. He draws back a fist, I mash panic button. He hits her, I hit him. He falls out of doors, I close and lock as police hit lot. He bolts for car, takes off w/3 cops in pursuit. 3 stay, 2 take statements, trade and retake statements. Tell me they know him and he's usually armed. Cops give girl ride home.
    3 years later, run into girl. She's lost 100+ pounds, gone back to school, CPA, kid in top preschool. Credits me for it.
    Boyfriend from that night? Grand theft auto, assault and battery, DUI, felon in possession of firearm, and she dumped him when he called her for bail money.

    Wow... thank you so much for being an understanding person in that situation. I know it's gotta be difficult. Especially wanting to get to catching the guilty party. To me this is what makes a GREAT officer as opposed to a good officer. Not to mention that if the victim of a crime sees a certain level of compassion, understanding, and patience, they will be more comfortable and willing to talk to you. Even through such a traumatic event. Thank you for what you do. Stay safe. 👍♥️

    Officer401 you should do a series of videos like this. Talk about the major crimes you have gotten as a patrol officer. Give us an idea how to handle the incident from the investigation angle, the officer angle, and the victim angle. That would be very beneficial to those on the channel looking into being officers. It would give them a perspective on how to ask the right questions, how to treat the victims or witnesses, and also would give them an idea of what an officer may feel during and after dealing with these incidents. I hope this all makes sense to you!

    Something that recently disturbed me is a news article about my local police department. I live in a large city with about 15 police divisions. It turns out that one of these divisions (a downtown division with probably about 300 000 residents) had a single police officer on duty, and at one point had 13 calls waiting, two of them assault and one sexual assault. This really brought to my attention issues about lack of funding in police forces. Really disturbing that a person who was sexually assaulted had to wait for an officer to be done with other cases before getting first responders.

    Honor, integrity, and compassion reasons aside, I'm always going to have one accessory reason to wanting to become a cop. Too many girls I've seriously cared about (romantic or not) have had this happen to them in one form or another. 4 out of 6. And I'm only 18.
    It's not the only reason I want to be a cop, but knowing that these people that I've held close to my heart had this happen and there's nothing I could've done to stop it, makes me want to be able to help keep this from happening to someone else's girlfriend or daughter or best friend.

    Thanks for this video. Sexual assault is such a violation on a person on so many levels. As you mentioned, people forget that LEOs don’t just ride around in a car all day looking to pull people over. Thank you and all the many others for the service you provide.

    Hello! I'm from Brazil and just started watching your videos. Your channel is amazing and I can't stop watching it. I am preparing to get in the police academy here and the one thing that moves me to become an officer is the fact that I was a victim of sexual abuse as a child. It just makes me want to help other people, prevent this from happening to others and put these monsters in jail. Thanks for doing a great job there, I hope I can do a great job here too :)

    Learned about how to deal with cases like this in criminal investigations about 3 weeks ago. Time is definitely sensitive, but so is the victim (and for good reason), so its really hard to deal with. Good job, and good luck.

    I feel like you have a lot of compassion for others which probably helped her talk with you.
    Rape is one of my worst nightmares, something I wish will never happen. I think I had a close call when I was walking home on Auburn Blvd in Sacramento CA at midnight on my way home from work when I was 18. This car kept pulling into a side road in front of me. I started running all the way home and took a cab home at night till my parents got me a car. It’s very scary when there are freaks like out there.
    Good job at completing the case before your shift was over. They probably gave her a date rape drug.
    Women need too keep an eye on their drinks at all time when out and never let anyone buy you a drink. It would be very easy for them too slip something into your drink.
