    My dad worked for the LaGrange Police Department for 30 years and in Law Enforcement for a total of 37. He retired as a lieutenant and worked in every position except chief. Been in a shoot out and everything else you could go through. He was a motorcycle cop for years and sadly witnessed his best friend Sami Bulloch get killed when someone struck his bike while responding code 3. But my dad loved being a sergeant but when he was promoted to a Lieutenant he hated not being able to be on the streets with his boys because his chief wanted him doing paperwork so he took a demotion to a sergeant. After falling thru the roof at home one evening before work he decided to go back to being a Lieutenant because of falling thru our kitchen roof lol. But sadly my dad passed away 2 weeks ago from a 2 year long battle with terminal cancer. He worked as a LEO my entire life and LOVED being with his officers and caught hell for arguing with his chief because of things the chief didn’t understand about Officer Safety. But I’m 27 and he retired the first time in 2009 and drove a semi for a year before going right back and stayed for 3 more years before retiring again and drove a truck before going to a smaller department Hogansville Georgia PD being hired on as a Captain. Left after issues and drove again before becoming a Troup County Georgia Sheriffs Deputy. Didn’t make anything at all pay was horrible before training at 63 years old to be a Georgia DOT H.E.R.O Unit Operator in Atlanta on I-285. Then cancer struck. At his service his old night shift officers still called him their one and only Lt. And that my dad was the only superior officer they’ve ever worked for that truly cared about them and that actually had their back and considered them family and only cared about keeping them safe. My dad was a true Cops Cop thru and thru and loved being a father, husband and a police officer. He started his career as a Harris County Georgia Sheriffs Deputy in the late 70’s and worked for other departments before moving from Columbus Georgia to LaGrange Troup County Georgia to work for the LPD. I’ve had to goto two police officer funerals one for Fallen LPD K9 Officer Justin Lane Caine who was killed in the line of duty in 2001 a young K9 Officer on my dads shift and sadly 4 years later someone killed his K9 Partner on a car chase that turned into a foot chase that ended with a man killing the dog. But my dad never worked as a K9 Officer but did do Vice Squad back in the late 80’s. Never wanted to be a detective or anything just wanted to be on the streets with his guys. He was a FTO Sergeant for years and the driving instructor at Georgia Law Enforcement Training Facility Forsyth. I could go on and on and on and on lol. But my dad was born to be a Police Officer and he almost died doing it after a shootout in 1993 when I was only a few months old. But a Georgia State Trooper was his only backup and if it weren’t for that Trooper being with him that night my dad would have been killed. But he sadly passed while in Hospice here in LaGrange Georgia two weeks ago and was given a Police Funeral Service and will be missed so much. Sorry for writing a damn book! Lol..

      That comment you just wrote brought a tear to my eye man. Thank You! These last few months since I had to say my final goodbyes to him have been the most challenging and emotional times I’ve ever had to experience and to go through. But I know that he is up there keeping a watchful eye over me as my guardian angel. But on a much more lighter note and somewhat comical enough to me is when he told me months before his heath began to go downhill that if this cancer does decide to take me and if I do make it to heaven and if I’m looking down on you and I see you being a idiot behind the wheel of my z28 Camaro and you so much as hit a curb and cause any bit of curb rash on those expensive wheels I worked my ass off on buying so help me god son I will haunt you until you get to heavens pearly gates to where I can finally once again put my foot so far up your ass you won’t walk right for a month. Even battling terminal cancer he still showed us how much he loved his vehicles more than anybody else except for his German Shepherd CoCo who he loved more than any humans 😂😂. Again thank you for those truly incredible meaningful response sir. So grateful to know that there’s still people out there who have a heart of gold!

    It’s interesting to hear different depts schedules and plus/minuses if each division. In my department (around 670 sworn officers in a city of 300,000) You can’t beat the schedule of Patrol. We work 4 ten hour shifts and get three days off in a row. It’s not based on seniority it’s based on your squad (A-D) and the days off rotate every three months. Right now I have Saturday-Monday off until April-June then I’ll have Monday-Wednesday off. Then in July-September I have Friday-Sunday off. Most everything is relatively the same that you said except our traffic division. They do monday-Thursday and have to rotate the overtime for events like concerts, sporting events etc

    I'm proud that you are one of the few that came up through the ranks to get to where you are now. I know many times it's just who you know or politics that get the positions and those people try to BS their way and blow smoke up everyone's ass. But i'm proud you like it.
    One question. If you are offered a higher position, What are the next 2 steps up?

    • @gamecapturemoments1
      @gamecapturemoments1 4 года назад +2

      Most of the time it starts with State law. Some states say that cars have to be marked for regular patrol duties, such as Ohio for example. Beyond that I'm not sure, probably departmental policy.

    As someone with zero police experience I’d think that swat would be safer than regular patrol since youre always aware of the dangers of what you’re about to do and always with a full team of equally training and equiped officers whereas in patrol you are a lot more likely to be alone with less armour and armaments and never have any idea of what to expect at any given situation

    • @justforever96
      @justforever96 Год назад +2

      But you are still automatically responding to the most dangerous calls, while some officers rarely or never have to pull their gun out. In reality, most SWAT work it in addition to being regular cops, so you are actually adding it to your danger total, not working it instead.

    • @iitachi5
      @iitachi5 5 месяцев назад

      Not safer, you’re better trained and with ultra elite teammates. You also have more equipment.
