What's the name of the fast piano music? (the one that starts playing after he says "yeah well maybe FUCK THAT") PS: Sorry for my poor knowledge of classical music
This feels like a parody of exurb1a, but unlike everyone else, it seems, I don't think that's a good thing. If someone is trying too hard to be someone else, it just feels uncanny. The video is also not organized very well and doesn't convince me at all.
while it's true his content inspired mine, in the making of the script i didn't consult a single one of his videos, nor did I take the idea from him. two people can be similar while both being authentic.
@sxrawn The thing about "who's steering the ship" was also in an exurb1a video, as well as a few phrases and mannerisms that he always likes to use, though it might just be a British thing I guess. It just felt way too close for comfort. The video also had too many points with not enough elaboration and exploration, so the argument felt kind of hollow. Just because there's no benchmark doesn't mean it's safe to assume that we're alone. 5000 planets don't matter in a universe with millions of galaxies, each with millions of planets. I mean, at the same time, I don't know if you should be concerned about what some teenager thinks of your video.
many things wrong with this comment: 1) the "5000" planets are exo-planets i.e. planets that may be habitable. We have observed WAY more than 5000 but whittled them down only marginally habitable ones. Even those though, aren't habitable really becauee conditions like our solar system's are rare 2) steering the ship? It's such a common phrase and I don't even know in which video he uses it Idk man
@sxrawn There's also really no good way to tell if they have human level intelligence on them. Signals traveling at light speed are hella slow compared to the size of a galaxy. And even if it was a million planets, that still isn't very much. I guess steering the ship isn't a common phrase in Canada.
Great Video! Keep it up. I definitely believe we can find our meaning in this world. But not if we keep believing in determinism, materialism and alike ✌️
probbaly i remember when was a teenager i would theatan my XBOX with murder for not listenign and obeying and playing games and it would atualy work for months later before red ringing (YES original XBOX did RROD just masses dont call it that typicaly, shows a red ring (usaly green) on power button and gives a RED SCREEN of death (RSOD) theres also the yellow ring of i guess half-life. all on ORIGNAL xbox NOT """"one"""" but ORIGNAL (god i HATE M$ naming schemes stupid occultist)
Humans are amazing! Overall solid video, good humour too and bad Mic quality adds to the vibe. Maybe if you use science based arguments try to research them a bit more tho. Saying you are tired of people using statistics as their argument for Alien Life while at the same time using a statistical argument via the 5811 (out of 20,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 estimated) planets is kind of ironic. Concerning the Radio and Light signals: We have been able to broadcasting and receive those signals into outer space for a bit more than 100 years, meaning those signals covered a distance of about 100 light years as of yet (for comparison the milky way galaxy alone is 100,000 light years in diameter, our neighbour galaxy andromeda is 2,5 million light years away). Around 100 years time is a bit short to be unsatisfied with not having received any signal yet, our alien friends over in andromeda could've been broadcasting for the last 1,5 million years and we would receive their greetings only in 1 million years (humans only exist for like 300,000 years so we would still need to wait quite some time if we don't go extinct that is). So all things considering, statistical arguments for Alien existence are valid and point to them actually existing. And we do have a benchmark, its us and our planet.
Some parts you hit the nail on the head on. Id like to address some of it, though. Firstly the definition of a benchmark is a point of reference in which something can be compared - in my analogy I was referring to the possibility of a benchmark relative to humans. A reference point for how rare our scenario is. Secondly, the 5811 i referenced were the exo-planets. Not the entirety of the planets we have observed using light totally. That number would be much higher. I'm referencing messaging sent to only those. It still doesn't account for a lot in the grand scheme of things but is worth mentioning. I acknowledge some other flaws in the videos wording after having made it such as the fact that the exo-planets we've noticed aren't really habitable at all. They have major flaws in which it would be very unlikely for anything to survive. All that means is that the probability of life emerging on habitable planets can't really be discussed, because we can't even find a planet remotely as habitable as earth to even discuss if it's likely life could emerge. Real habitable planets are the absolute scarcity, life emerging we have no idea about. Hope this clears some things up!
@sxrawn Yeah the current known list of potentially habitable exoplanets found to date is unfortunately as of yet very short, they are hard to observe. Current Benchmark for planets that support life: 1/number of planets, since we are the only one yet, but agreed that relative to us we have no other planet with confirmed life (or any life generally) to compare our chances to. The probability of life emerging on habitable planets cant really be discussed true, but the likelihood of it being possible in the first place is very high due to it happening at least once (earth) and the sheer number of planets it can happen on (additionally we can only look for signs of life we can think of, what biological or chemical processes and what detectable waste products in the exoplanets atmosphere they produce we can only guess at). So we can't give/discuss a definite % answer but can with good confidence say "yeah they out there somewhere". If intelligent life exists apart from us is a much harder question to estimate an answer for. If some sort of life managed to emerge on our earth in less than a billion years after its formation it would be quite surprising if it did not happen anywhere else in the universe.
@ also true, the distinction between life in general and intelligent life is huge and might not be necessary for life elsewhere - especially to humanity's extent or further
When you quoted that intelligence is meaning, all living creatures have a form of intelligence. Therefore, all life is meaningful. Also I think my dog matters, and that is just one reason God is greater than all of us; he is the most intelligent, and the best hearted life that made all life.
@@slappyjo1046 i was pretty sure that the bible had a focus on the earth being for humans. And because we are the only beings in gods image, we are the only ones that go to heaven.
Meaning is what we get out of life, so meaning is up to the individual person to find. Philosophers in ancient Greece had no conception of what meaning was "supposed to be" so they had to think for themselves what they believed to be true. They had to figure out what they thought meaning was and it's the same nowadays. It's just that there are so many ideas that cloud peoples minds of what meaning is that they can't think for themselves about what they find meaning in. Most people nowadays think that there's a choice between different ideas of meaning and one of them is r objectively right, when in actuality they can think of their own meaning for their own life. Someone's meaning can be a simple as what they want to do in life or as complicated as their beliefs on the universe itself. I like doing card magic and cardistry (even though I'm not really good at yet lol) so for me meaning is my love of magic. An architect meaning might be erecting beautiful buildings with a purpose. It's different for everyone. As the phrase goes, "you do you"!
Many people, ‘naturalistic pantheists’ instil nature with human qualities like care. Of course this is possible, but as is total apathy. Knowing that care exists within me at least, is kinda a biggie for moral drive
I feel like it is somewhat ignorant to assume that in the HUGENESS of the universe we're the only life there is. 5,000 something something exoplanets is a lot but that is nowhere near the total amount that is likely in the whole universe. And we don't even know if life could exist in other forms, not carbon based. But this doesn't matter to me, whether there is extraterrestrial life or not. Whether a miracle is a singular occurrence or one of many it doesn't make it any less of a miracle. We still live in a large expanse of space that is mostly devoid of life, it could've been that way *here* too, but it *wasn't.* Even if our existence isn't a miracle and, for one reason or another, is nothing unexpected from the universe, it just... doesn't diminish the meaningfulness I feel. So what? We have each other, it feels important to us, we do important things with each other, we love each other and all that, so why focus so much on what the universe thinks when there's all of us to care about yknow?
@@Flow-Fi- the 5811 planets are exo planets. We have observed millions, the 5811 mentioned are planets thought to be remotely habitable for one reason or another. While it still isn't much in the grand scheme - it isn't 5811. And what we've found is that most of the 5811 aren't even remotely habitable anyway. Habitable planets are miraculous to come by and life spontaneously erupting on them is equally rare, if not more. If a miracle happens daily, or everywhere in the universe, it isn't a miracle. As I said, we have no benchmark to determine the probability of life spontaneously erupting but we do have a benchmark for how many habitable planets there are. And that number is astronomically low.

This feels like a parody of exurb1a, but unlike everyone else, it seems, I don't think that's a good thing. If someone is trying too hard to be someone else, it just feels uncanny. The video is also not organized very well and doesn't convince me at all.
while it's true his content inspired mine, in the making of the script i didn't consult a single one of his videos, nor did I take the idea from him. two people can be similar while both being authentic.
unless you'd like to elaborate
@sxrawn The thing about "who's steering the ship" was also in an exurb1a video, as well as a few phrases and mannerisms that he always likes to use, though it might just be a British thing I guess. It just felt way too close for comfort. The video also had too many points with not enough elaboration and exploration, so the argument felt kind of hollow. Just because there's no benchmark doesn't mean it's safe to assume that we're alone. 5000 planets don't matter in a universe with millions of galaxies, each with millions of planets. I mean, at the same time, I don't know if you should be concerned about what some teenager thinks of your video.
many things wrong with this comment:
1) the "5000" planets are exo-planets i.e. planets that may be habitable. We have observed WAY more than 5000 but whittled them down only marginally habitable ones. Even those though, aren't habitable really becauee conditions like our solar system's are rare
2) steering the ship? It's such a common phrase and I don't even know in which video he uses it
Idk man
@sxrawn There's also really no good way to tell if they have human level intelligence on them. Signals traveling at light speed are hella slow compared to the size of a galaxy. And even if it was a million planets, that still isn't very much. I guess steering the ship isn't a common phrase in Canada.

Great Video! Keep it up.
I definitely believe we can find our meaning in this world. But not if we keep believing in determinism, materialism and alike ✌️
at the absolutely quantum level, our current best guess is that the universe is non deterministic. That vidoe is out next but its fucking fascinating
@ looking forward to it!
But is it then statistically determined on a quantum level :}
@ quantum physics is completely random. It's random in the sense that we can't use past values to predict future values. Very cool

I love my cat - can he have meaning too?
But doesnt the bible say that humans are the only being with souls?
@@leafy126.5 I don’t think it does, I think animals are just helpers of humans
@@slappyjo1046 i was pretty sure that the bible had a focus on the earth being for humans. And because we are the only beings in gods image, we are the only ones that go to heaven.
@ honestly I can’t say anything for sure, but I know for a fact that animals have souls. And they have a place to rest.
This is up there with Sam O'Nella and Bill Wurtz!
what a compliment - thank you
Meaning is what we get out of life, so meaning is up to the individual person to find.

Knowing that care exists within me at least, is kinda a biggie for moral drive
this is a really cool comment
@sxrawnCheers!
We still live in a large expanse of space that is mostly devoid of life, it could've been that way *here* too, but it *wasn't.*
Even if our existence isn't a miracle and, for one reason or another, is nothing unexpected from the universe, it just... doesn't diminish the meaningfulness I feel.
@@Flow-Fi- your comment is nice, though. And I agree with the last part
