how are you practising your scales? Do you have a teacher or are you learning from youtube? i'm a beginner too but sometimes i need to look for new ways to practise my scales or i get tired easily that's why i asked, hope you don't mind answering
I'm traditionally a metalhead, but I am just now getting into jazz/folk style music and this is absolutely beautiful. Amazing performance, never would I have thought I would enjoy this so much. Amazing work gentlemen.
@jeremiah simmons I don't think it's as much of a surprise as might be imagined. Jazz manouche is like shred metal played in an old folk style. As an example, playing the rhythm guitar in that style requires really accurate and rhythmically precise downpicking. Same for swing and big band rhythm guitar, which is blazing away at some seriously high BPM. You really have to relax and get your fretting hand shapes and picking hand perfect. The leads are also using a lot of the more exotic scales that players like Uli Jon Roth brought into metal. Metal drumming owes a ton to big band, too. Django, Stephane, and the band were among the the technical masters of their time and the people continuing to play in the style they pioneered have continued to evolve from the very high bar they set. Check out some Ellington from the time to hear just how amazing the musicians who played with the Duke were, too.
@@crimfan spot on. I LOVE metal, but many other styles of music as well. What these guys are doing could be excellent when done right by a metal band. I actually came across These guys by looking for covers of Django and Stephane. They did not disappoint.
You guys should get more recognition. Every instrument was played with an astounding sensibility. The sensibility to play the right note by reading the mood is the power to guide the audience and everyone who is listening to emotions and feelings. This is the ability to produce a catharsis at will, and is not something you come up from a day to another: It's something built from years of practice, and is every musician's biggest objective. Hope I expressed my awe right, because english is not my main language. I wish you guys all the achievements and success in the world. Thank you for sharing this.
I agree completely. Was looking for the right words myself. Have been a fan of Jason since 2012 (Fiddle Hell) and was just taking note of the pacing of the whole concert and the effect it had on me. I NEVER applaud for videos!
@@magicfiddle I never played in the mountains but I know what you mean. I only play solid body electrics and they're much less sensitive for that. One acoustic over here and one at work and they act a bit like that too.
When people ask me what I consider genius music is - I show them this. It just doesn't get any better. Edit: folks there's also a part II of this concert most viewers didn't even notice!
The rhythm future quartet is a group of masters. Jason and Olli are a pure match for each other. Max and Greg complete the group that makes you feel so good listening to them. Bravo👏👏👏👏
Didn't expect this day to be the day I discover this insane music. That just came outta nowhere. Totally caught me off guard with how good your music is!
You guys introduced me to this kind of music years ago. rediscovering your channel really was a blessing, i love this version of "colorado". i already loved the spotify version, but i think i like this one even more.
The Made In France performance reminds me of that time they performed it at Shanghai Jazz, that video inspired me to learn that song such a great piece.
Something about this music left me on the floor, and in tears. I think this is why music exists in the first place - for making us feel things we can’t always explain. Thank you!
I think Sleepless and Jasons performance, pinpoints the problems with current 'gypsy lazy'. You can tell by Jasons tone that this is about storytelling, that each note stems fram Jasons heart and is made important. You can sense it, which is why it stands out. And this is contrary to much of the current so called 'gypsy jazz', which is more about licks learnt and measured. Intellectual athletics where you strive for stunning performance of blistering technique rather than grab the hearts of the audience with emotions. Swing manouche is about resting in the rhythm and then adding the notes of the story you're about to tell. The almost exaggerated vibrato is typical of the gypsy fiddle, a tool for really really aiming for the heart of the listener. And Django transferred this tool to the guitar were it was possible, which set the Django-style apart from other swing guitarists. Jasons performance is beautiful on Sleepless. And the day when he can perform swing manouche-standards and make every note just as important as the notes he plays in Sleepless, he will explode on us because the songwriting is there. It's all about grasping and mastering the exaggerated gypsy fiddle vibrato, a manouche trademark known long before Django Reinhardt and swing manouche.
Love the pacing on this concert! More laid back, a little smoother, plenty of swing. First time I can remember catching myself applauding a video. Twice! I don't get out to the Northeast much lately. Are you guys gonna be at Crested Butte this year?
Thanks! It's looking like the Colorado Gypsy Jazz Camp will be happening this year. Not sure if the full RFQ will be sure, but there will definitely be some Gypsy jazz in Crested Butte this Summer!
Very cool to see like as a guitarist how the picking improved even more from the guitarist here comparaed to the old videos. Stunning band you have here! :)
4 am here in France. falling asleep watching videos. RUclips algorithme pulled this one. OMG ! This is just fu... great !!! They are so young and so great ! How can you master this style of music being so young ??? Just love it !
As a classical music "elitist" I was suprised by your music. I live in romania and I listened to such music in smaller towns and bars. Thank you for broadening my music taste.
Let an old man teach a new trick, try Adblock and you won't get an interruption. Mine plays straight through beginning to end with no breaks. I have probably watched a total of 5 hours of RUclips music tonight with no ads/breaks. Its free.
Astonishing...... As a jazz beginner who is currently suffering from scales and arppegios, you guys are the reason that keep me going on!
Keep it up! You got this!

Gypsy jazz, bro

Indeed! Glad you dig it!
Increible!!!
When I woke up this morning I was not expecting to listen to almost an hour of nice Gypsy Jazz from something called a Crusty Butt Music Festival

Great playing....!!!
Btw I think Olli's guitar needs some work. The D string doesn't sound too happy.
I think it was caused by the mountain CO weather (we were playing in Crested Butte, CO). It definitely messes with acoustic instruments.

You guys looks like you're having fun the whole time. And that's honestly just really great :)
Id love to see you guys performing in Poland
Would love to!
Oh I'd come too.
Is there a term describing the way Jason plays the Violin at 43:25 - 43:30 ? I can't get enough of that dramatic sound.
That is an improvised cadenza, influenced by classical music. Glad you dig it!
Tremolo, maybe?
This is pleasing to my ears! I wish I were there
Hope you can catch RFQ live down the road!
I wish I could hear your performance in live format since it was amazing. I have no words. Hope to see you in Italy one day
Thanks! Would love to get to Italy!
@@magicfiddle I suspect you may need to go to a more exotic place, Ukraine :)

Absolutely amazing performance! The only criticism I have is that they are dressed too well. (just joking)
Ha! =)
Very nice!
Even the sound recording is done nicely - something quite rare for a live performance.
Thanks!
Bravo👏🏻✨Thanks your amazing performance from Japan❤I was so moved.

The guitarist sounds too artificial while the violinist knows how to improvise

The first theme seems heavily based in a guitar waltz by Antonio Lauro

I'm dying to know, was most of this improvised? Magnificent sounds to my ears!
Yup! A lot of it was improvised!
I would suggest within a vague framework ... a bunch of "improvised" hehe
Fantastic stuff, such a talented group. Love listening to you guys!
They brightened up my evening. Listened to the first song and stayed until the end. Bravo!👋👋👋💥
