A rare Gem of a film. This is a "TRUE SHORT" film it has a beginning, a middle, and most important and ending. Very well done and very well acted by Liz Christensen. Honestly if this was a feature length movie it word be better than any of the last five Star Wars movies. This film was so well done that time just flew by.

A very well paced, and beautiful short. Very moving, and believable. Excellent acting all the way around. A story well told through imagery, and emotion. Very few words needed, and expertly executed in this regard. You said in response to tobiasthebluemans post that you acknowledge that the film isn't perfect, but I think it is perfect. Well done, and thank you to all involved.

I was pleasently surprised that the special effects were very well done! When it comes down to it, it really doesn't matter how good of actors you've hired, or how good of a story you've written, or how good of a director you are, if the movie's environment (especially in sci-fi movies) looks too fake or tacky, it doesn't allow the viewer to completely, or even remotely, immerse themselves into the characters and storyline. I also liked the overall idea about humans living underground while the cyborg-like-humanoids live above ground in what looked like a post apocalyptic, destroyed and scorched Earth. And the amount of acting balanced evenly with the action/event scenes. I also enjoyed that there weren't an over dramatic amount of camera angle changes and that you as the viewer got to take in the reality these people live in, as well as be able to really appreciate the effort the people in charge of the set creations and CGI put in to make the movie pretty damn close to seamless. The main character really sold it for me, though! I actually started to tear up towards the end when she believes she is too late and has lost her son, because i felt the raw emotion in her sobbing which forced me to relate by imagining it was someone very near and dear to my heart. She is a very good actor, for it isn't easy to do a crying seen and do it well enough that the viewer can't help but empathize with them and start to get teary eyed as a pure reaction. There were multiple scenes where you could see the tears well up in her eyes, and it really sold the pain and anguish she was going through with a doing everything to try and fix her broken child. And the general theme of not instantly hating what you don't understand is something that really hits home for me, because it's something i see all the time and view as a major problem in our world. Overall, i thoroughly enjoyed it, and to be honest, i really didn't think i would. On a scale from 1-10, i give it an 8.9 out of 10! Good job, Willem! Way to kill that shit!

tobiastheblueman wow. Thank you so much for such an in depth comment and overview. I acknowledge that the film isn't perfect but I love seeing how people see it and feel the themes that we wove into this film. In the end, we all as humans have something broken in our lives that we are looking to fix. Most of the time it just looks different to those who are different than us. Thank you so much for giving the film your time and your energy. It's audience members like you that keep us film makers going.

tobiastheblueman I agree! Having a believable setting/special effects is so important and for a low budget film, they were nearly flawless! I also loved the limited exposition. At first, I was bothered by the general lack of details and overall context, but in retrospect, keeping it simple was perfect for the length of the film. It was definitely better to have a few unanswered questions than to be bogged down with useless back story. My only critique would be that the length of time showing how long we left on the son's "battery" was too brief and therefore caused the mother's haste to obtain a new one to be slightly unclear. Overall, it was an amazing movie! Great job Willem Kampenhout! 9.5 out of 10

Marvelous film, really great work, from everyone involved. How ironic to discover that at least some of the "monsters" on the other side are not monsters at all, but just scared people---people who can learn to help each other. Maybe this first meeting between two families will spark something better for the future of their world. I find it absurd and aggravating the these short films are so much better, and so much more riveting, than any of the big budget crap being produced by the so called "Entertainment Industry".
