  • Join me, JMBeraldo as I try out Five Parsecs From Home, a space opera solo miniatures game in which the story is created through random events and a lot of imagination.
This story was adapted to the science fiction universe of Veiled Space, in which Humankind is just another of the dozens of decentralized alien species considered too primitive to join the mighty League of Worlds.
This is an exercise in experimental storytelling, by using the game and random dice rolls to weave a story that is part of expanding universe, then tell it through video, with the help of Unity and my experience as a game designer and writer.

This was a fun BatRep! The added effects and voiceovers must have taken sometime, but they definitely added to the narrative, well done!

The niterians are Pyke Syndicate minis :D Was one of the first batch of minis I bought for the game, so I never customized them. I've been playing with mini customization since, so expect more unique takes on the following videos ;)

I’m very late to this party, but I am amazed at the production value of these episodes. What I love most are the great terrain and miniatures but also the fact that there’s no-one yapping about the rules alll the time but short text cues tell the whole story. It makes for a really high-paced and fun viewing experience.

That was fun to watch. Great way to show a BatRep. Like a couple of other comments I found it moved too quickly for me but I was able to pause (spacebar) at every dice roll to read the details; what was required, what was rolled which I thought was a nice touch.
I loved the sound effects, especially the footsteps. Brilliant.
Subscribed. Looking forward to the next episode (just going to watch it now).

Great work! One of the best approaches to batreps I’ve seen. Certainly not perfect in every detail, but to hell with that. The package is really good.
The narration was well executed and I liked sound effects.
The action cam style could certainly be done to even greater effect with exponentially more investment into your equipment, but serves the intended purpose really well even without unjustifiable spendings.
(Did you see that crazy thing goobertown hobbies did with that small movie company and their robot cams? By the throne!)
I saw that you’re looking for criticism. Maybe play around a little more with ambient lighting. Some coloured light sources can create a lot of visual interest.
But I don’t have any more than the above. In my opinion you’re right on track. You should just keep going in the same direction and growth will just happen regarding your skills and hopefully also your channel. To that end, you have my subscription.

    • @veiledspace
      @veiledspace  Год назад +2

Thanks, Björn! I saw Goobertown Hobbies teasers. Jawdropping! Almost quit my idea for this batrep after I saw it hahaha But seriously looking forward to the batrep they are doing with all that tech
Thanks a lot for the feedback! I recently got some lights to test out, probably on the 3rd or so video. Right now the only space I have to set up the table is my kitchen/living room, so lightning is not the best, but I want to improve on it as I learn what really works.
I'm also trying to keep the general equipment cost low for now since I already spend a lot on miniatures :D But will definitely add more to the whole production as things progress.
      Thanks!

Good job with the narrative! I'm loving that kind of battle report, especially as it is what I'm aiming for mine (in french, my channel is called Joe Solo).
One thing I would do if I were you is to try and have steadier footage, either by using a tripod or taking your time to take the shots. Also, I don't know which program you use, but in Davinci Resolve (free), you can stabilize the footage which helps a ton with that.
I'm definitely gonna check your next videos!

And thanks for the feedback! I've been testing different cameras and how to record. The first 2 episodes were just my current and my old phones. For 3 and 4, I added a DJI pocket 2, which I think helped a lot on mission 3, but got weirdly cranky on the first half of episode 4. Living and leaning, I guess 😆

I love the style, the dry humour, the tone and the amazing camera angles (which enhances the terrain and the miniatures beautifully). I find the screen looks a bit busy, which in itself is fine, but I* can`t read the writing as it moves on soooo quickly, which is terribly frustrating, as the words are interesting and useful.... but I simply can`t read them fast enough comfortably to keep up :-)

Nice bat rep, very unique way of doing it, 5 parsecs is a great game. I really do like you table, nice use of building terrain with bits and pieces. My only criticism is the moving camera, I understand it add to your videos, will just a bit for me to get use to...and it is me, I'm just getting old( 63) and the quick movements take a sec for me to adjust to
