Love your videos. Thank you! Quick question: have you ever included transparency paper in your encaustic pieces? I'm considering it, but I'm afraid the transparency paper may melt from the heat of the wax or the temperature of the heat gun. Any recommendations?
Hi Carolyn ! I am not sure if you are referring to the transparency film paper that is plastic ? If so, encaustic has to be used with materials that are absorbent. Unfortunately this rules out the wonderful medium of acrylic paints, and anything plastic because eventually it will separate from the wax and as a result cause separation in your painting. Also, it most likely would melt and you probably don't want to breathe the fumes from anything plastic. If you are referring to another material and I misunderstood let me know . I would love to hear if you print your images on transparency film there are probably so many possibilities with that! (accept heating it up :)) Have fun !
Hi Shari. Thanks for another good teaching video! Wondering, since for the most part the Alcohol ink is considered non-archival, have you ever tried the Krylon UV spray on top of the ink, then gone over that, once dry, with wax? I assume it won't stick to the wax, but thought I'd ask. Also, since the water color did leave some light color, could you fuse it in and go over that with wax, once dry, or would it be unstable under the wax long term, in terms of the wax over it separating? (That's with it board mounted, not just the paper by it self) I thought that crackley look might be cool for some effects. Thanks again! Bert
Hi Jacklyn! Any archival glue will work fine. I am using an archival bookbinders glue in this video. In the blog post for this video I have all of my favorite Photo Encaustic supplies listed there for you if you . The link is below this video. Have fun !
@@ShariReplogle thank you. I just did my first encaustic project, a ceramic chess set I sculpted. I'm looking to expand my use of encaustic in my ceramic work.
Really helpful thank you
Very interesting video!
Thank you Irbinger Art!
I quite liked that water color effect at about 4:50. Would be good for something like dragon fly wings. :)
Shari, how in the world did you achieve that ice-like texture that is in the first min. of your video??? I LOVE that!!! Big hug, cat
Hi Cat ! I think the part you are talking about is texture done with iron work .
@@ShariReplogle Yes! Of course! That's what it is. I haven't gotten an iron yet...that's next on my list. Thank you so much for sharing!

What "glue" do you use to mount your paper to your board?
