Hi from Spain, I enjoyed your video, the gambling industry in the UK has changed. I moved here over 20 years ago and as far as I am aware typical betting on horse races etc., is illegal in Spain? I used to really enjoy having a gamble on horse racing in the UK and now I watch the various racing channels on a routine daily basis just for interest. What I have noticed is, on a routine regular basis, winners of races return SP's slightly lower than the last price shown on the TV, they never return an SP above the last price shown on TV especially favourites, is the SP manipulated, and who contols it? I can only assume that this "overpaid" punter does not like "bookies", I think he should have stated at the time of being paid that he was only expecting £375. The reason I say this is everybody in the UK has a choice to gamble or not, so I think it is important to be honest, both bookmakers and punters. The truth from my personal point of view is I was the worst gambler period, I lost on a routine basis and only remembered the winners. You never here of desperate individuals in Spain with "gambling addiction" and the consequences. Gambling is a huge industry in the UK, and in general, there is only one winner, but at least you have a choice in the UK. One question I would ask relates to the "tote", many years ago I had £20 tote win and place at a Ladbrokes office on a horse that won and returned 20/1 SP but paid £78 win and £28 place because no one fancied the horse "on course", Ladbrokes honoured my bet no problem. Today tote odds now appear to be identical to SP. why? The "tote" in the past related to "on course" betting typical of the US. On TV today in the UK there is huge expensive advertising for gambling, there is only one reason, they make huge profits tempting people to part with their hard earned money, come and live in sunny Spain!!! you dont need to gamble here, kind regards. John.
Thanks for the message John much appreciated as for the Tote I think you can still find that pretty big difference from the industry SP but I feel you will only find it on the ODD big priced outsider
I knew Geoff's father , the great John Banks , backed Mill Reef with him at Epsom in 1971 , he was offering 4/1 because he was convinced Mill Reef would not stay the distance , he was still paying out 2 hours after the race , great days

As for off course bookies closing accounts: I was told by a bookies representative my account being closed had little to do with how much the account was in profit. If a punter's average priced winner beats Starting Price by over 20%, then the bookie knows you'll be making money long term. So will close the account even if it has yet to make much money. Whereas if you just happen to have a few lucky winners and your account is in a good profit - yet your average winner is below 20%... They'll keep you on, because they know you'll eventually give it back.

If backing each way you bet online for extra places. You back in the morning for the better price and it it drifts you get BOG. If backing win only while at the course within the last few minutes then it's best on the exchange. People were gloating about their 66/1 winner at Royal Ascot a few years back whilst if they backed on the exchange it was 500/1. If backing with on course bookies, you might aswell just burn your money instead.
Geoff needs to change his name to Robin. Its wrong what happened however, I wonder how many bookies have laid a horse they heard about that may have not eaten up etc and laid it for more than would have, do they feel bad.
The chap keeping the money and the actions of big bookmakers are totally seperate. I am not saying whether I would - or wouldn't - have given the money back myself but if I'd have been a couple of grand down on the week and I had seen an extra £3,375 staring me in the face there is every chance I would have stuck it in my Davy Crockett.
I get what you are saying. Let’s put a scenario. You go to the ATM (I live in the US), the intention is to withdraw $100. But the ATM gives you $1000. What do you then do? Do you keep the extra money which is not yours, or are you going to be honest and give it back? Another one. You go into the store and buy an item which is $300. But when rung up the cashier rings up $30. Do you pay the cashier $30 and leave or do you be honest and tell them the mistake? If it were the other way round in either scenario you would be asking it to be put right. So with the punter, if he was paid 275 pounds instead of 375 pounds he would be asking for the difference, but is it ok for him to take off with the money that does not belong to him? At the end of the day, it’s down to honesty and integrity. Unfortunately not everyone has the same morals and money pays a big part in the decisions we make.
What I've noticed alot with betting in the shops lately, if i have a bet on a dog and i ask for 6/4 ,the 6/4 is put on the slip, when i go to collect my winnings , they say ther was a price change and its 11/8 its been happening alot lately
