This was my most favorite loco with many fond memories..As a child I often used to go to Mulund station just to see the Deccan Queen speeding away with this lovely beast...Unfortunately they cease to exist since 1997..I miss them a lot...Thanks for sharing
You are the daddy of all young RF posting videos on RUclips these days (absolutely no ageism intended ☺) You were rail fanning when most active RUclipsrs were still in kindergarten! Great job and love to see these mid-90s videos!
As an Indian Railfan, I always regret that these giants never hauled any Rajdhani train. Awesome video which I used to watch from your IRFCA page as a high school student 😍
WCM series that too while-red-blue coloured engine was the most beautiful engine ever in the history of central railway. And 99% DQ used to have that. True beauty!!! Thanks for capturing this goldmine video
Wonderful! I came by this video upon searching for the Deccan Queen - this locomotive was my favorite growing up - a tour of the cabin at Kalyan Junction as a kid remains a cherished memory.
Mani Sir, amazing video...Deccan Queen 2124 Up leaving sharp at 7.15 towards VT! Like I mentioned in the past my father use to travel Pune Mumbai in the pass holders bogie for 35 yrs, and I have lotta memories traveling with him as a kid from VT To Shivaji Nagar by DQ2123 down. The announcement at station - "2123 down Mumbai Pune dakkhan ki Rani platform no 2 par aa rahi hai"... complete nostalgia. As a kid I wud ask my dad wht r these engines called, the only answer he had was they r called "Genda" engines (Rhino),😂.
I searched for this DQ old engine and it's wow to see it again, used to see it pass thru the Parel station / workshop every evening. Thanks for up loading this video Mani, my old remembrances revived staying in Parel rly quarters.
These WCM Series locos were the kings of Mumbai region. These locos used to travel till Pune on Mumbai Madras route & till Igatpuri on Mumbai Howrah route. I used to travel on Howrah route. I used to think that these locos are the most powerful locos because of their giant look till I come to know the difference between DC traction & AC traction Thank u sir for sharing this video. My childhood memories refreshed.
Bhai bata nahi sakta yeh video jo apne shoot ki hai wo mujhe mere purane din ki kitni yad dilati hai thanks bro for making this video 😢 miss you old deccan queen
WCM 1 was manufactured in Vulcan foundry London regarding this loco it can be found stationery beside the ICF factory in perambur while I was in Chennai it's a museum where this engine is kept, some full size coaches from the British era and some scale models also I was lucky to climb up the locomotive through the ladder kept there as it was very tall indeed and it had a door in the middle. This loco might there now or not I am not sure this truly was a beast. I recollect as it was written Pune on the loco same livery.
Wow! This video is literally 25 years old but the Deccan Queen still has the same livery and charm. I hope the LHB rake retains the livery and the timeless beauty of this iconic train. Other Pune Mumbai intercities will lose the blue white with red stripe livery soon, which is quite sad.
Thanks for uploading all these wcm video s great you preserved these wish we could have these locos still it reminds me of my childhood days thanks sir
nostalgic! took me back in 1995.. 😍 These locos and deccan queen livery were very special and awesome as they catered only in mum-pun region. different from what rest of the India had at that time..something special
Hi mani Vijay sir hats off to ur collection's, i missed des loco engines awesome video collections. Childhood memories are back..! Des engines luks us so powerful n it used to run lyk dat. Evry mrng early to usd to pass our school in full speed, v used to mk out by its horn, yups dats Deccan Queen. !
The fact that the then Deccan Queen used to have only first class chair cars is pretty nostalgic to me. Not to mention the killer look of the engine at the lead. Everything is a memory today.
Deccan Queen got a new gift during 15th August 2021 i.e. Independence Day. An ICF Vistadome coach [AC tourist car] named 'Prakriti' was added in the rake which provided tourists a complete view of the monsoon beauty while on its journey to CSMT during morning hours. Then by 22nd June 2022 the maiden run with the LHB coaches started. A brand new AC dining car and the new Vistadome coach are in this rake. Deccan Express and Pragati express also have been upgraded to LHB with the Vistadome coaches added. Sinhagad Express, Indrayani Express and Intercity Express already have been upgraded from 2021. Now all of them are hauled by WAP-7 locos.
Deccan Queen was the only train that used to have five first class coaches in the 17 car rake. Somewhere in 1994-95, AC chair cars were attached as a replacement for ordinary first class. Three AC chair cars and an EOG car was positioned behind the rake. Later two more extra AC coaches were added and then the removal of EOG car. Currently this train now has a dining car (converted from pantry car) and is hauled by KYN WCAM-3 till full conversion to AC traction for WAP-4, 5, 7 locos.
This is the loco from my youth. I left India in the late 1990s and my memories of Pune Mumbai train travels is only associated with WCMs and WCG in the ghats.
@neelanshu1998 Manufactured by English Electric / Vulcan Foundry. Auxiliaries from Westinghouse. Introduced in 1954, several were rebuilt in 1968. They were used on superfast trains such as the Indrayani Exp. and the Deccan Queen (?) until quite recently (the 1990's). They were rarely used for freight. (From the IRFCA FAQ)
Always wondered in my childhood days late 90s, this kind of engine was never spotted on Delhi tracks, but on the way from Mumbai to Goa, mostly all engines were of this shape and size.
Thank you sir for capturing Rail video's in a time when it was not that easy as now....Fablous work sir... Rejuvenation of childhood. WCM engines horn always to freak me out when I was a child....
In fact this train was the first to enter Bhor Ghats (KJT - LNL) when the 2.5 kV AC traction after replacing the 1.5 kV DC traction was started in May 2010. It was banked by tigerface WAG-7 triplets which matched the livery of the rake. Sadly the WCG-2 locos are being scrapped out fully.
Hi sir! Making a short documentary piece on the Deccan Queen for her birthday. So looking for old clips of the train. Do you mind if I use this clip? Proper Credits will be given. TIA
What a lovable monster. And hauling this beauty queen with such gentle pull..am curious though about your shooting equipments tho. No mobile phones in those days...
I did my KG and primary in Parel Central Railway School in Central Railway compound. there was the CR workshop behind and the steam locomotives the WCMs were iconic of that time. I left Mumbai in 1985 during my 7th std as we had some problem with the landlord and shivsena who was paid by the landlord to try and evict us. Goa was much more peaceful and pristine by comparison. We kept visiting Mumbai foo and on via Metergauge trains earlier they were coal-fired till Miraj and BG tran to Mumbai
@mstrmnd25 I agree! Memories are precious! For me, the golden era of IR travel will always be the late 70s and early 80s - the distinctive liveries of trains being a bonus! Now, it is more chaotic with the romance almost knocked out of IR.
Indian Railways should Start Manufacturing Same Model WCM - 5 series Engines with latest upgraded Mechanisms so that Hertiage Value with Technology remains Balanced & people Love to travel more by trains rather than Flights..

Present locomotive are 3 time more powerful than wcm 1. It s only something around 3600 hp
Wow! This video is literally 25 years old but the Deccan Queen still has the same livery and charm. I hope the LHB rake retains the livery and the timeless beauty of this iconic train. Other Pune Mumbai intercities will lose the blue white with red stripe livery soon, which is quite sad.
I really hope they repaint the loco to match the livery of the rake. Am looking forward to the LHB version of the Deccan Queen.
Thank You Sir, Reminded me of my journeys to Pune from Dombivali every summer to my Nanis place...

40-45 years of service this is too much.It shows WCM locos were technically so advanced and powerful.
Thanks, John!
Wow, sir this WCM1 20068 loco only now in Chennai ICF rail museum
lovely one.sir........i have seen WCM's in my life......its heartening to witness these beasts which helped IR evolve..
It's a loco classification in IR. W - broad gauge, C - DC loco, M - mixed traffic (both passenger and frieght trains).
just one word "woww"!
OK, thanks for the update!
Always loved this livery❤️🙏
Perhaps one of the few rakes in our IR that maintains the livery..
Very true. Now it has an LHB rake with a colorful livery.
I have travelled in this WCM loco in Mumbai Pune Holiday spl. Just forgot to click some pics.Never thought of Fb or Yt then.
Miss those MG days. I did go to Goa in the early 80s but we went by bus to Panjim and came back by ship,
You are an amphibious person from land to water to land 😁😆
Sir what is ur age now?

These DC locos were only present in the CR Mumbai section.
Deccan Queen was replaced with WCAM 2 locos from 1997 nd still the same loco its updated one hauls it. WAP 7 not regular now.
Thanks for the info! I do remember seeing the Deccan Queen with an EOG! Didn't realize that it had five first class coaches.
I loved these engines and I still miss them ... Its their very look - ferocious, resembling a British Bulldog!
Long hood locos!!!!!
INDIAN RAILWAYS SHOULD AGAIN START,EITHER MAKING LONG HOODED ENGINES OR MODIFY THESE BEASTS FOR RUNNING!!!!!
Thank you sir for capturing Rail video's in a time when it was not that easy as now....Fablous work sir... Rejuvenation of childhood.
WCM engines horn always to freak me out when I was a child....

IR is way cleaner now
Handsome WCM series.
Deccan queen is now 99% livered utkirst 😭😭
This was in 1993 and sadly these engines have been phased out now.
WCM1 hauled Deccan queen came in the mil sur mera tumhara song of Pandit Bhimsen Joshi
The WCM1 locos look old. Are they from around 1950?
G0IMB yes
This beast has a very rare pantograph
Called a diamond pantograph.
Indian Railways should Start Manufacturing Same Model WCM - 5 series Engines with latest upgraded Mechanisms so that Hertiage Value with Technology remains Balanced & people Love to travel more by trains rather than Flights..
@vb642
The engines name was Lokamanya. I used to see it very often from my house in Matunga
