      Honestly, there wouldn't be kids. There simply wouldn't be enough calories for a woman to go through a 36 week pregnancy to full term. Hell, the two girls wouldn't even have a normal menstruation cycle.
      But to be fair, it would take time for the silo to get to this stage of decay. The water only started to rise with the lose of power. And the generator probably failed due to a lack of maintenance. Additionally, the farm level would be okay until the power was lost. Then they would start to die after a few weeks of no light.
      Probably one of the biggest things the series gets wrong is that the light outside would be blinding. The people in the silos would have never know a level of light intensity as what they would be exposed to outside. I'd even argue that after a few generations, their vision might start to get impaired due to a lack of light in the silos.
      But once the gardens failed there wouldn't be enough food even for one person to survive long term. The amount of food that Solo supposedly has access to in the vault is mind numbing. He would have eaten through all the food stores long before he became an adult.

      Maybe it was soft serve and Solo doesn't like ice cream? Yeah. None of it really works. Even if he was rationing, that larder would have to be the size of a Costco warehouse.

    • @superdave8248
      @superdave8248 13 дней назад +2

      I think we can all agree that the story takes some huge liberties here.
      But to apply even real life to this scenario. I bought one of those 3 day emergency ration bags out of curiosity. It had three items in it. All three items were proportioned to be a family of four a normal serving of food. Think of it like a box of Mac and Cheese. It is intended to give enough food for four portions. Additionally it is all dehydrated so you need a ridiculous amount of water to prep any meal from this pack. So your option is to pick one of the food items. Cook it and eat it all. Because you don't have a way to store it once it is cooked. And then do the same with the other two items over the course of two more days. The catch though is that there is only about 1200 calories in the entire 72 hour bag. So at best, assuming you eat all of the food item you cooked, you gain about 400 calories. Which is way below starvation levels. And did I mention that they are nasty as hell? Even if you get the ratio of water right, it still comes out as mush with no flavor.
      The people outside of the vault would have starved to death probably in less than a month. And even if they didn't, they would be so vitamin deficient that they wouldn't have any natural immunity left. I'd give them not even a week before they would try to start to canibalize bodies of dead Silo 17 members.

    Mushrooms make the most sense.
    It also appears the crops in the silos are grown in soil. Its not inconceivable for earthworms to be used in the compost to break it down with the worms in a cycle of feeding the chickens.
    Properly managed, mushrooms and earthworms could still be around if the compost pile was maintained.

    I think there probably would have been lots of canned food and stuff preserved from the time silo 17 was still functioning. Still I’m not sure there would have been enough food for that many people to live that long and even if there was they definitely wouldn’t have been getting the correct vitamins out of it to stay even somewhat healthy. Would have been nice if they gave us a short but informative explanation on how that happened. I understand they said they ate rats but no way would you be able to feed that many people for years off of just rats alone (if there was rats that were flourishing like that what the heck were they eating?). Seems unlikely to me but hey… still a good show imo so far. Hope it continues to crush!

      I took 'him' as the obvious 'him' being Solo.
      The 'kill him' scene has been taken out of context by the creator of this video IMO. As the child was asking an adult that he has probably repeatedly heard talking about killing Solo (because they thought he killed their parents) for potentially years, so after seeing Solo being bought to their home & hearing about the 'deal' made with Juliette. The obvious conclusion is the child understood that when the baby cried, Solo would be killed.

  • @guyjperson
    @guyjperson 14 дней назад +2

    Yeah. The only things with meat would be rats. I can imagine that there COULD be vegetation growing wild...But there's no light there for photosynthesis. So, if you apply too much thought, it just doesn't work at all.

    • @dv2483
      @dv2483 14 дней назад

      you shouldn't :). a lot of it doesn't work that well: it's unlikely the founders introduced rats in the siloes as well... and that ice cream should make them sick, as it's very likely they can't digest it after a life on such limited resources...

    • @nixequestrian3721
      @nixequestrian3721 14 дней назад

      There is vegetation growing in pots under low light as Juliette enters their home area. Some plants can do survive in lower light levels, so it is possible they got lucky (or their silo had species that were selectively bred to need lower light levels) & they had some viable food production plants. They likely wouldn't be able to grow enough for all of them to eat really well given the limited number they had (if that was indeed all of them) & how sad they looked. Unless there were more plants growing in other places. Fungus is the most likely thing to grow all over the place.

    • @nixequestrian3721
      @nixequestrian3721 14 дней назад +3

      @@dv2483 The silos have a range of animals that were introduced - cats, cattle, rabbits, chickens/ducks (we've seen eggs), sheep/wool & dogs (someone mentioned having dogs in S1 I think it was) & rat poison was used/talked about this season/season 2, so rats likely found a way in during the building or stocking phases or they could have been pets or lab animals that over time escaped & became a feral population.
      It's not like they could have built each silo, fitted them out, stocked them with people & everything they required to survive in a single day in order to reduce insect & rodent incursions to close to 0% chance. It would have taken years to build each one given the scope of what we've seen- that's a long time to try prevent a single rat from finding their way inside.

    maybe you can explain what happen to all those people that escaped silo 17? the nuclear bombs that were set off were to destroy nanobots in the air. its been 350 years since the bombs went off so the radiation would have been gone or so low that it would not have killed all those that escaped silo 17 so fast. if the nanobots were destroyed what killed them so fast? it could not have been radiation. no one has explained exactly what killed them all. what was so deadly after 350 years that would still be outside? any gas, radiation, all would have disappeared by now.

      When look outside the each silo we see a ring/ridge.
      Before Juliet leaves silo 18 she enters an airlock and they release a heavy gas/poison.
      This heavy gas is lighter than air so stays within the ring/ridge for a period of time poisoning anyone who breathes it in hence the use of dodgy fake tape on the suits

    Hardly expandable. Every disruption results in less yield.
