    nice to see the lookout is back in good condition. last time i was there was in the early 90's, the lookout was empty and was in very bad condition.. i knew it had been restored but i didn't know it had a firefinder put back into it until i saw this video, which makes it even more cool. hopefully vandals will not attack it as was common in the past with lots of fire lookouts. the agate beds are really wierd, it looks like a war zone with foxholes dug all over the place from all of the rockhounds digging for treasure...

      The Red Top lookout is now well maintained by the Forest Service and a group of volunteers.

    WOW This is awesome!! Thank you for sharing some of the details, very interesting about the stools! I've stayed in a fire lookout before once but it was nothing like this. Super rad. Looks like a great spot for creative inspiration.

    Awesome video! I heard you say you’re volunteering as a fire watch, but do you know anything about fire watch job listings that I could maybe do over the summer? I’m a sophomore in high school, so it’s more of a next year thing but I’m just really curious because this seems like the kind of thing I could do for a long time and really really love it. Let me know!

      Most of the fulltime jobs that are paid will be for those hired on with the USFS.

    Chairs are insulated from lightning strikes, so is there no lightning rod for the tower, or would they be ineffective?

    • @CurrentlyRockhounding
      @CurrentlyRockhounding  13 дней назад

      The bells on the leg are the only form of lightning protection at this lookout.

    What type of prior experience should someone expect to have to get a job like this?

      This tower is currently closed forever, unfortunately.
      Most are just volunteer jobs, but some are USFS staffed, which means you work for the USFS.

    Why didn't you showed us that journal?

    • @CurrentlyRockhounding
      @CurrentlyRockhounding  2 года назад +2

      The lookout journal is the private thoughts of the people working it.

    I wonder why dogs aren't allowed

    • @CurrentlyRockhounding
      @CurrentlyRockhounding  2 года назад +1

      When you have an active lookout where people can visit as you work allowing dogs is a mistake being that they will be interacting with the public.
