Price B... One of the 1st artist I had the pleasure of sitting in their studio while they were record Bliss of Memories... Rest well my friend... Jersey City all day everyday
When everyone else was listening to Poison, Def Leppard and such, I was listening to these guys along with Soul II Soul, Prince and all sorts of Indie music (long live the B-52's) in rebellion. I was transported back in time riding in my Volkswagen Golf convertible listening to this. Miss you guys so much. Prince Be, hope you're on the mend after the second stroke! Your music is an inspiration.
I had a cassette with this, I'd Die Without you and Set Adrift on Memory Bliss and I just rediscovered them again. This gave me the chills and brought me back 30 yrs to when I'd play this constantly and loved it. Blasting it on my way to work!!
I was in the military, one year service, i was 19, and i was finding no meaning in it. I listened to this every afternoon. It helped me find meaning in a meaningless situation. Thank you Prince Be. R.I.P.
Rap battles have been around forever and they're not positive. And he says it's what HE calls 'Positive Rap' whether you call it that or alternative rap, jazz rap or anything else is up to you but HE can call it what HE wants :)
I remember listening to this song in Vientiane, Laos, in 1993 in my friend's car. He had just picked me up when I popped in my bogged leg cassette tape I had purchased in Bangkok, Thailand. Listening to the song, looking out the window watching all the people getting around in their motor bikes. Sure brings back memories.....
This is one of the few hip hop albums that is strong enough to bring tears with impression. A masterpiece at its time and it's a shame that this album didn't earn the full recognition it deserved.
YEEESSS PM DAWN VERY UNDERRATED, BUT FOR THE ONES WHO STILL REMEMBER PM DAWN KEEP LISTENING TO THEIR GOOD MUSIC AND FEEL BAD FOR THE ONES WHO IS MISSING OUT ON PM DAWN.
PM Dawn was an awesome duo. I am convinced something was going on with the Universe in the 90s with music that was kinda out of this world. The creation was sooo fuken amazing and futuristic. And to think they didn't have a fraction of access to the sort of resources that artists have today hmmm makes me wonder... someone said they are ready to go back in time, i am busy building a time machine (TIME TRAX - Darien Lambert style haha I just need my SELMA 😂
The Uranus Neptune conjunction in Capricorn was what was going on astrologically. Lasted almost a decade beginning around 88 and went exact in 92. Incredible time for musical innovation, particularly electronically. Whether that was cause or correlation can always be debated of course, but still, the archetypal themes fit what played out during that time and for the generation born then coming of age now.
I'm not sure how much of it was intentional, but PM Dawn struck some really strange balance between hip-hop, house, psychedelia, new age, and pop of the Beach Boys variety. While I lost interest in their music the farther they moved away from hip-hop, they really had some strange unique sound that carried through their whole career. Obviously influenced by Prince & De La Soul, but not as derivative of them as some would have you believe. It's an ethereal, propulsive sound.
Yes, I wholeheartedly agree with you! They are in a ‘genre’ of their own, encompassing so many styles that it is truly very hard to put them in one box. I have owned 2 of their cds since the early 90’s and I am so happy that I made such a wise decision to do so! There is nothing like truly immersing yourself into an artists’s work than to listen to entire albums Now I am able to hear them whenever I choose to, yay!
I feel like Prince Be listened to a lot of The Beatles. Some of PM Dawn’s melodies, particularly on Hale Bopp Regurgitations, sound like something McCartney would’ve written.
I'm a resident metalhead, and this song literally just popped into my head 5 minutes ago. So I decided to RUclips it (since it's been forever since I've heard it) and everyone below is correct - this sounds just as fresh today as it did back in 1991. Timeless, timeless music.
mysocalledknife07 fuck yea haha I was just jammin some killswitch engaged n a memory popped up that this song coordinates with and now I'm about to download it
RIP A.C. What a voice and a beautiful human soul. I was honored to have met and known you. World lost a beautiful person when God called your name.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
+The Fragrance Apprentice That's because there's been a 80's and 90's style revival in music in the last years, just look at bands like Chromeo and Lazerhawk! ;-)
This song if it were released today would be on alternative radio stations...Why it's not today, I don't know why ? Well I think I know why...But I'm not going there...The same with R&B stations....
I often wondered how to describe this song. As many have said in this thread, WAY ahead of their time. But if I had only a few words? Timeless and pure decadence.
Man this song brings back good vibes! Their harmonies are so tight!! All their songs carry a weight to em. This is the first "hip hop" CD I ever bought....but these guys are like Twenty One Pilots... you can't put them in a catagory... just can't.
Listening in 2020 and rediscovering this track makes you realise just how beautifully original this sound was back then but was underrated ..It still stands out today and maybe even more so!
Back when we had good music with thought provoking lyrics and a good beat. Music like this brings people up and makes them better, unlike what passes for this style now, which brings the mind down.
Paper Doll ( Paper Doll ), Paper Doll ( Paper Doll ) Hello, Imagine yourself and a link on a chain, the chain is wrapped around someones mind, If you break off then things start to change. Then You realize that there's no time, No direction as you fly through the wind. you stop to ponder on a pink chateau. The theme from "Mohogany" still transcends. But Quote Unqoute, that's the way it goes. I'm looking at the picture again. I'm looking at the picture again. I spin the sundial to expectation, twenty years ago I saw you yesterday. You're looking at the picture. I see you looking at the picture now And for the slightest moment I watched you think about what it's like as a paper doll. One of these days I think you will find yourself as a paper doll, (paper doll), paper doll One of these days I think you will find yourself as a paper doll, (paper doll), oh, paper doll. Imagine yourself as a cloud in the sky. You pass me by and I blow you a kiss. A thinking cloud, so you're wondering why, only to find out it doesn't exist. Life surrounds what's presumed as wise. It wouldn't be wise until the fist uncurls. No one I don't know ever stands in my eyes. Because of the quote unquote, real world. I'm thinking about yesterday. I'm actually thinking about yesterday. A thousand words say it doesn't exist. A thousand ideas tell me otherwise. You're thinking about yesterday. I know you're thinking about yesterday but For the slightest moment I watched you think about what it's like as a paper doll. One of these days I think you will find yourself as a paper doll, (paper doll), paper doll One of these days I think you will find yourself as a paper doll, (paper doll), oh, paper doll. Regardless of how you think, regardless of how you feel, see yourself as, More than a human being. It's recognizable, spiritually and mentally. Hold my hands forever, paper doll. One of these days I think you will find yourself as a paper doll, (paper doll), paper doll One of these days I think you will find yourself as a paper doll, (paper doll), oh, paper doll.
Prince Be is such a bad ass! He's the soundtrack to my life from 1992 to like.....today? Actually, a very specific few years he made a lot easier for me to deal with.
PM DAWN were SEVERELY UNDER RATED. Thanks fellas, for the great memories 😔🙏🏼❤
This sounds even better 30 years later! Why did PM Dawn not get their deserved accolades?! I'm 57 and I will never tire of this song.
Because they were ahead of their time 🫶.
Me too Sir. I love this song. I will play this song 🎵 to death. Even in the morning 🌄
They had no respect
I feel you. This song still gives me chills
Got a mental high off this song many times. The sound is ethereal ✨
Price B... One of the 1st artist I had the pleasure of sitting in their studio while they were record Bliss of Memories... Rest well my friend... Jersey City all day everyday
Heavy early 90's vibes, love P.M. Dawn - just clean, fun, creative music
One of the best that didn't get no respect. I still play them to this day. Very unique.Smooth as glass.
I had a cassette with this, I'd Die Without you and Set Adrift on Memory Bliss and I just rediscovered them again. This gave me the chills and brought me back 30 yrs to when I'd play this constantly and loved it. Blasting it on my way to work!!

This was one of the most underrated groups in the 90s hands down.
Agree 100%.
Absolutely 😢
You said that right
This was my favorite cut by them, dreamy groove...
Way ahead of its time.
I was in the military, one year service, i was 19, and i was finding no meaning in it. I listened to this every afternoon. It helped me find meaning in a meaningless situation. Thank you Prince Be. R.I.P.
Late 80's , early 90's...PM Dawn was part of what I like to call the "positive rap' movement...RIP Prince Be!
positive rap isnt a "movement".....this is the original form. gangster rap came later
Rap was positive until that gangsta crap came in...
Rap battles have been around forever and they're not positive. And he says it's what HE calls 'Positive Rap' whether you call it that or alternative rap, jazz rap or anything else is up to you but HE can call it what HE wants :)
Johnny Loaps I wish gansta rap never existed and instead alternative rap became the main face of rap instead.
Thanks for sharing your comment
Reminds me of the summer of 92. Still gives me chills.
awww summer of 92' wow! I had just graduated from 8th grade
High School for me.
Same here! Glad that I was old enough to appreciate great music like this.
I graduated in 92 lol. Great summer!
Yes
I remember listening to this song in Vientiane, Laos, in 1993 in my friend's car. He had just picked me up when I popped in my bogged leg cassette tape I had purchased in Bangkok, Thailand. "I'm looking at the picture again.
I spin the sun dial to expectation,
Twenty years ago I saw you yesterday".
BRILLIANT. Love those lines.
This is one of the few hip hop albums that is strong enough to bring tears with impression. A masterpiece at its time and it's a shame that this album didn't earn the full recognition it deserved.
One of the best driving songs
I'm sure that's true---even though I can't drive.
Interesting, this song always sends those vibes to my head
TRUE
The first time I heard this song in Germany, I could not get the song out of my head..28 years later it's still stuck in my head.
Crazy: I also started tuning into PM Dawn while at the Worms base (US Army contractor) in 92
30 years later still here with the paper doll
30 years later and this song is still fire.
This is such an underrated song. Love it so much!
So true❤
I agree
YEEESSS PM DAWN VERY UNDERRATED, BUT FOR THE ONES WHO STILL REMEMBER PM DAWN KEEP LISTENING TO THEIR GOOD MUSIC AND FEEL BAD FOR THE ONES WHO IS MISSING OUT ON PM DAWN.
one of the best albums I have ever listened to.

Underrated Prince. There's an intriguing mystique about this song that I find eerie, but fascinating.
Bought the CD for Set a drift on memory Bliss, but Paper Doll ended up being my favorite song on the album.
PM Dawn has so many great songs. This song and Ways of the Wind are incredible.
Still a great song! Brings back memories...miss the early 90s, the world was so wonderful to me...😔
I'm not sure how much of it was intentional, but PM Dawn struck some really strange balance between hip-hop, house, psychedelia, new age, and pop of the Beach Boys variety. Hope your still alive dude. 9 years later I see you were complete spot on
Yes, I wholeheartedly agree with you! They are in a ‘genre’ of their own, encompassing so many styles that it is truly very hard to put them in one box.

I'll go with that
(Im not a fan of rap OR hip hop)
Well said
This was my favourite song by them. Rest well Prince B. 🙏🏽💙

I think PM dawn really appeals to many genres of music. They were so eclectic
a very under rated choon,quite a strange band,very tribe/dela ish.....
mysocalledknife07 fuck yea haha I was just jammin some killswitch engaged n a memory popped up that this song coordinates with and now I'm about to download it
mysocalledknife07 rr
donald marshall made a lot of metal songs too, it makes sense you'd feel the similarities
Absolutely one of the best songs ever. I wish they would make a comeback. This song makes me feel.
The lead singer passed a few years ago.
In my opinion PM Dawn was one of the best pop groups. R.I.P Prince Be!!
I listen to pm dawn still‼️
They were amazing
RIP A.C. What a voice and a beautiful human soul. I was honored to have met and known you. World lost a beautiful person when God called your name.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I miss the 90's. It was such a great decade with a lot of talented artists. These days you don't find that.
These days either
1991 was such a magical time.
This was one smooth underrated group of musicians!!!! 👍🏿
How on earth was this released in 1991? If this was released today it would still be fresh for real!
+The Fragrance Apprentice That's because there's been a 80's and 90's style revival in music in the last years, just look at bands like Chromeo and Lazerhawk! ;-)
now the best Prince is gone!
This song if it were released today would be on alternative radio stations...Why it's not today, I don't know why ? Well I think I know why...But I'm not going there...The same with R&B stations....
you can say that again
The Fragrance Apprentice fuck this song is still fire

Timeless and pure decadence.
Simply put the greatest Hip House record ever recorded
Hands down my fav by PM Dawn
Me too❤️
My 2ND favorite, behind "I'd die without you".They had an intriguing sound, like no other.
Man this song brings back good vibes! Their harmonies are so tight!! All their songs carry a weight to em. This is the first "hip hop" CD I ever bought....but these guys are like Twenty One Pilots... you can't put them in a catagory... just can't.

Nice description.(.......The therapeutic effects of good music is amazing).
I really wish this group would make a comeback. I miss the music of the 1990's.. this duo was class act, to the fullest.
Listening in 2020 and rediscovering this track makes you realise just how beautifully original this sound was back then but was underrated ..It still stands out today and maybe even more so!
How alone, yet 2gether u feel by knowin this 2 soon
This song is timeless for me. I love the lyrics, they actually have meaning to them unlike the songs of today.
Always loved P.M. Dawn. R.I.P. lead singer :(
His name was Prince Be.
OMEGOSH! Memories, haven't heard this in a minute!
Back when we had good music with thought provoking lyrics and a good beat. Music like this brings people up and makes them better, unlike what passes for this style now, which brings the mind down.
me and my friend had the exact same conversation today coming home from work.
WWE
This song brings back memories. There was soooo much variety in music and I liked a little bit of everything.
I love this song by PM Dawn, as a matter of fact. back in the day, I had went out and purchased the cassette tape due to this song.
I love this song it’s so fantastic and beautiful music
The theme from mahogany still transcends……what a line!
PM Dawn's best song IMHO. It has such a haunting groove I love it.
Paper Doll ( Paper Doll ), Paper Doll ( Paper Doll )

Very underrated duo
Amazing album
Great dance tracks and lyrics
P.M. Dawn....forever a tight group!!! Great music!!
He was cool. Out there, creative, full of the vibe. Some amazing tunes (the ones from his albums that never hit the charts). Very underrated artist.
Damn this is such an under rated band! Lovvvved them back in the day! Memories!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm older and realize how much they music mean to me... Shit was hittin when I didn't even understand... I'm 39
What an incredible track this was, very unique and will never be forgotten in the year 2021… the great transition of humanity has begun.
Thank you for uploading this video Sincerely, a Natural New Age Unitarian Universalist. Blessed Be!
PM Dawn, so deep, so philosophical, so underated and underappreciated!
I use play this all the time in 1992 the year my mom's died she was my paper doll MAXINE D STOVER RIP ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊
❤
As a kid I watched mtv house of style and this song was played during a runway clip. Slaaaaaay
Reminds me of 8th grade. Gives me goosebumps 🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿🔥🔥🔥☀️🌠👁🛸
They produced some gorgeous music - layers of bliss
Such a great group, much love Prince B. Turn this cut up in 2022.
From one of the great albums of the 90's, listen to it again and fall in love again and again.
The hardcore hip hop community just didn't respect Prince Be and DJ Minutemixs work. Why PM Dawn didn't become bigger.
For the curious, lookup Gil Scott Heron - Angola on youtube and enjoy the sample
Thanks, love finding the origins of these songs. PM Dawn did a good job.
First time i listen Pm Dom...i were sit in de top of my house...and my skin change..it was electrical...liked that..
