E-flite Focke-Wulf Fw 190A 1.5m Smart Assembly & Flight Review

- Here's my flight review of the E-flite Focke-Wulf Fw 190A 1.5m. E-flite has really nailed this one as it assembles easily, looks fantastic, has all kinds of scale details and flies awesome! The model tracks extremely true in flight, maneuvers well and slows really nicely on landings too. Though it's not quite as much of a performer as the 1.5m mustang, I think I may actually like this one a touch better. Full article with CG, throws and more is at: thercgeek.com/EFFW190

Chris. Very nice plane. They don’t all have to be fast. Flying a warbird scale is the way it should be. Excellent review. I hope Eflite continues to make this size warbird with the quick connect assembly. Nothin wrong with that in my book. 👍👍😊
Agreed...we need a matching Spitfire!
The “pop in” wings also seems like a very nice feature. Easier storage obviously, and should reduce the chance of things breaking on a bad landing.
…look, I’m a potato and I know it. I’m gonna have to assume things will go wrong eventually.
Remember, easy for RC giants is not necessarily easy for mere mortals. Your confidence in us is however, appreciated. Super work as always.
Haha, thanks! It’s all about practice and building up time. But You should know, I have complete faith in all of you. 😊. And I’m always happy to help where I can.
Great info on the model and your radio setup. Thank you.
Thank you very much! This is only my second warbird (T28) and I’m used to flying mostly EDF’s. Looking forward to getting this baby up this weekend.
Awesome, have fun!
Another great detailed review Chris. Low passes looked ace. Look forward to the repaint and real insignia on the tail plane 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
As always amazing review my friend. Great flyer and flying!
Thanks man!
Flew mine for the first time today. WOW! what an awesome model. All setup as instructions. Forward CofG and was fantastic. No issues at all. 3 clicks of down and 2 clicks of left aileron and sorted.
Nice! Now it’s time to enjoy it. 😊
Nice and stable airframe. Great video Chris! 🍻
Thanks Chuck!
Beautiful plane
The spinner and cooling system is Fan-tastic! so its literally a cool running plane. Nice review Chris.
Most definitely the "coolest" warbird out there! :p
Awesome plane. And another great video .
Thank you!
Great review video thanks man!
Thanks!
Hi there Chris. Very nice scale flying -and the plane looks great. Greetings from cold snow covered Finland.
Thank you!
Oh man I've been waiting on your review/flight of this one. I'm hoping Horizon soon does a T28 the same as this and the P51 1.5m. Great job as always. We need more frequent videos Chris!
Thanks man! I’d love to see a t28 in this series, would be awesome! Not sure that’ll happen any time soon since they have the big one. Tell you what, I wish I could get multiple vids out per week but things are crazy with my full time job. Maybe one of these days day I could do this full time. 😉
The giant scale Carbon-Z T28 will be back and better than ever next year. I am buying one as soon as it’s available for pre-order.
Great review thx !!!
Thank you!
another great video brother
Thanks so much!
Funny that you mention the bounce on landing. I still have the old fms 1400mm FW-190 and it does the same. I was never able to cure this. You really have to touch down just right, to get it right. Never thought of trying one wheel though.
i showed the awesome flight to my grandma and now she is fell asleep! Thats how good it is!
Hahaha
Cant wait to see it repainted. The skin is too light. I remember you were doing the freewing mirage into the kfir and at the same time I custom painted mine as the "1/5 vendee" blue/silver/white scheme. The good o days when planes were cheaper 😁 happy flying Chris!!
Just picked one of these up on a trade. Looking forward to getting it together.🙂
Nice, have fun with it! 😊
@@Thercgeek Thanks for the setup tips!! :)
Nice!
I like your plane and your t-shirt too
Ha, thanks! 😊
Wait a minute! You are wearing something that symbolizes the Galactic empire. You're true colors are showing, Chris 😁
Something about a Luftwaffe warbird that gives it such a presence. Great video as always! 🤙🏻😎
Haha, thanks! I love me them geek shirts. 🤣
Beautiful plane Geek!!! The only thing I see to do is put a FMS half body Pilot in it👍🏻😃 But these new bigger warbirds are coming out with 1200mm warbirds pilot in it.....😳 And just no more room for them 👍🏻✌🏻🖖🏻
Yeah, the pilots are a little funny, haha! I have printed a new one for when I do a repaint on the airplane.
When your ready to do a repaint on your FW-190 just let me know I’ll be watching ,dying to do a Tunisian paint job on mine.,love the sand and green blotching on the ones in Italy
Cool, thanks! Got a few things to finish up first before that happens. I do look forward to changing the colors on it. 😊
@@Thercgeek Will look forward to seeing how you tackle your repaint of FW-190 ,I’m sure there will be some good hints in it.
Honestly, this model just SOUNDS incredible in the footage. Maybe not as 1:1 as some of the EDF’s get, but it still sounds like a much bigger plane.
It does have a pleasant sound to it.
@@Thercgeek
If I had to put in a guess, I think that the Cooling Fan ends up adding a bit of extra “harmonic” to the engine sound compared to most Electric Props.
@@Thercgeek where can I get softer tyres for the 190a. Thanks
At one time Eflite had a soft tire option available. That’s an easy drop in replacement. Otherwise, I’d recommend looking at the Robart tires. They provide some great shock absorption.
Still catching up on your reviews, very nice . Have you done the repaint yet ? . Great video, thanks for sharing.
Hey, thanks! Unfortunately when we moved, I had to make some room and as a result, this one didn’t make the trip with me. So, never got around to the refinish before i had to let it go. 😕
@@Thercgeek shame , maybe the next one .
You have the most detailing videos. Man I want this beaut. But a college kid working only part time can only buy so many planes.
Thanks! The airplanes will be there when the time is right. 😊. Study first, play later, right?
I think either P47 or FW190. Interesting, I just realized something about the nomenclature of these two warlords. Anyhow, it's kinda hard to have one favorite.
I hear you. I have many favorite aircraft personally. 🤣
Hi Chris, you mentioned that we might want the softer tire option for this model. Do you know if that's something we can request when purchasing one? Or are you referring to an aftermarket tire? Also, when do you think you'll be able to repaint your butcherbird like you had mentioned? Thanks.
The softer tire is available from e-flite. I have a link to them in the description. On the repaint, I’ve had a couple projects take priority over that, so I’m not sure when that’ll happen yet. I do still plan to get it done.
I really hope they make more Warbirds of this size and quality. When I eventually feel ready to get my first warbird this looks like a great choice. Awesome video as always 👍
Thanks! I agree with you. I really like this size of model. Large enough for good presence but still easy to transport.
I would love to see a P47D in this size and a P38 too!
Well, fms does have a p47 in this size range. The FlightlineRC p38 is similar too.
Were you still planning on a repaint/weathering job? Love the content btw!
Thanks! I had collected everything for a repaint and then ended up needed to clear some space in the hangar due to moving. 😕
I wish they would include the 'Good Will' symbol as is SCALE on all ACTUAL German aircraft. Yes, the Swastika was actually a 'Good Luck' sign, not a NAZI sign. (See Finnish A/C of WW2 era). So, to make the plane look authentic, just order a pair of Swastika decals for it. FW 190 is one of my favorites next to the Thunderbolt.
I agree. It drives me crazy that so many are worried about that symbol being on the model. How about the crosses? How about the fact that the full-size plane was built by Hitler’s war machine? Putting a swastika on the model doesn’t mean it represents the Nazi party. It’s just a scale item.
Chris, I have a question, did you change the wheels to the softer ones for that flight ? Looks like a perfect candidate for a Mister RC Sound system ! 👍😀
These are the softer ones, yeah. A definite must imo
Allies had to build the P51 just to keep up with the 190. It was the fastest plane of its time.
I really do love his plane. I’m getting to takeoff now to be much more smoother with that right rudder control that you mentioned. But still struggling with the landings. Even coming in with some speed I cannot prevent it from spinning around as soon as the towel gear touches down. I’ve tried killing the throttle write a touchdown to remove the torque but doesn’t seem to really help. Any suggestions
I assume you’re flying from asphalt? The landings can be pretty challenging from asphalt, especially if you end up with a side load on one side. If there’s a dirt or grass area you can land in, it’ll probably resolve the issue for you. Otherwise, the airplane really does need a touch of speed in the touchdown to help with directional control. Once settled on the mains, start bringing the throttle down to idle and ensure the airplane is rolling straight before you do. That should help, but it’s challenging.
@@Thercgeek thanks for the reply. You are correct that I’m mostly on asphalt. I’ve landed on grass but the field has a few ruts that caused some damage to the gear. But landings are smoother than asphalt.
Unreal works, can imagine this all filthy an oily one day from Your airbrush.
That spinner spins Us All out Man!
Great airshow, looks Da Sheeeeeeeeee in sky. Beauty Geek, Everyone loves Der Metzger
Thanks man! I’m going to do a repaint once I can find the time.
Wow...best plane of ww2,engineering and all.
Hey Chris, great video! I can't make up my mind between this one and the FMS F7F Tigercat 1700mm. I would really appreciate your thoughts, just on which one is more enjoyable to fly. Thank you very much! Fotios
Oh man, I’ll be honest, I love a good tigercat and the fms is pretty sweet. That being said I haven’t actually flown it, so can’t really say in terms of its flight characteristics. The one thing I will say about the fw is that it’s a sweet flyer, but the ground handling can be challenging on pavement. The tricycle gear of the tigercat will make it easier to manage on the ground.
@@Thercgeek thank you for your response Chris! Given that I fly off of a paved field I think I will choose the FMS. Besides, I already have a taildragger warbird of similar size to the FW, a Hobbyking Yak 11 Reno Racer, so I reckon the FMS will be a quite different experience to fly. And that's the whole idea, right? 😄 Thanks again and happy flying!
So I've noticed I have to arm the ESC every time I plug a battery in how can I get around that because it's annoying the hell out of me.
The esc has to arm in order to operate. No way around that. I’m guessing what you may be experiencing is a delay in the AS3X activation vs the esc arming. After plugging in the airplane, ensure the airplane remains still and it should come up pretty quickly. If it gets moved, it’ll take longer.
i am shure the 1400 109F will be next enlarged to 1.5 soon
That would be really cool
compare to p-51 1.5 that has a shorter retract, which has a stronger retract gear?
To me, the fw gear setup seems quite a bit beefier than the p51. The gear as a whole are very stout in the fw.
Looks great. I'm not a fan of Electric MOTORS, OR FOAM PLANE KITS. But it looks great. How much is the foam Electric, and does it come with the RC GEAR including the Transmitter?
I understand. For this particular model, it’s a bind and fly which means that it comes with everything except the flight battery and a transmitter.
@@Thercgeek no battery for flight is a R.I.P.. EVEN NO TRANSMITTER, IS A RIP. I wouldn't be buying it to hang up and LOOK AT. SHEESH.
Where did you get that prop nut tool?
Something I rediscovered in my tool box that came from robart many years ago.
☠BLACK BARON☠ 7:15 An AI coder to make the torque and rudder even more stable for takeoffs would be nice. The "Add-On" ... Soft Wheels + Suspension front and back is great.
can you bind this plane with nx8
Yep! 😊
Did you repaint yet please?
Unfortunately that didn’t happen as I needed to thin the fleet when we moved across the country. 😕
Horizon Hobby forgot that Swastika on the plane's tail!... Was that done on purpose? 🤔Why do you think they did that? Just curiosity!...
Thumbs-up for your video!...I just got mine and how to be able to maiden it soon! 👍🏾👍🏾
Have a great day! Greetings from Douglas, Arizona 🌵🦠😷🇵🇷
Thanks! Swastika was intentionally omitted I’m sure. That symbol is outlawed in some European countries I believe, so would be problematic for selling them in Europe.
@@Thercgeek That's exactly what I thought!...Thanks for your response!...I painted one on mine😁... Maiden flight to be done soon!... "Stay tuned to my channel for it"👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
P.S. My last statement was posted with a little bit of Sarcasm because mine is a really small channel and how come I was going to expect you to follow it!...🥴😁... But if you want to see how that symbol looks on my plane, then as soon as I perform her maiden flight, I'll send you a link of that video!... Have a great day! Greetings from Douglas, Arizona 👍🏾🌵🦠😷😊
I'm flying an airplane called The apprentice right now I want to graduate to the w 90 what are your thoughts on that for a new guy I really like the warbirds
Definitely want to work up to the fw. Ground handling can be challenging with it, especially on asphalt.
Just wondering, how long is the flight time if you’re not gunning it with a 5000? I imagine 5-7 minutes?
If you’re easy on the throttle, 5+ minutes is pretty easily manageable. I can get that even flying mostly full throttle.
@@Thercgeek Alright, thanks for the reply.
how mutch dos it waigh?
I’m not certain, I never weighed the model and I don’t have it currently.
how much of trottle are u aplying it sounds like you are cranking?i just bought the plane and will flyit soon
The model does like a decent amount of throttle for a good maneuvering speed.
@@Thercgeek likr alround 70 percent or ill probably just figure it out once maiden👍🏼
We’re you in ocotillo wells?
Yep, that’s where the flights were filmed.
Will a futaba receiver work with this model? i don't care about the safe stuff
Yes, you’ll want to pick up the plug-n-play version that comes without a receiver. Then you can install any receiver you like without having to remove the included spektrum one that comes with the bind-n-fly version.
Is this a good beginner plane?
I wouldn’t recommend this for a beginner. I’d recommend a traditional trainer type aircraft to start and then work up to this airplane.
😁🇺🇸👍🏼
Id buy this one in a heartbeat unfortunatly as usual no stock in basic parts like retracts props and spinners
So um .... Ill pass but its a very nice plane if you never have a bad landing
The retracts are actually pretty beefy on this bird. but of course, hit anything hard enough and it’ll certainly fail.
Missing some marking.
What scale is this model?
The model is about 1/7 scale.
@@Thercgeek thanks! I found a site that sells decals for rc planes but wasn’t sure of the scale. callie-graphics.com/products/fw-190-white-8
White 8 pictured would be Major Walter Nowotny’s plane.
Callie does good work.
No swastika?
Didn’t come with the marking
I can`t stand the paint scheme . The dark grey pokadots on the fuselage just don`t get it . I`ve seen hundreds of fw - 190 photos and I`ve never seen pokadots on one . For the money , the paint job should be a lot better . Great plane , but the paint job kinda sucks .
I hear you, The mottling could be better. Could be touched up pretty easily with a little airbrush work.
They should’ve put the swastika on it and made it legit.
