  • Happy New Year! I'm working on a taller and more rigid base concept. Stay tuned for the first prototype. I hope to release the final base component by about mid 2024 for those who want the absolute best in performance and a couple of inches of extra height.
I truly believe that art for art's sake improves creativity and allows your mind to break boundaries. It certainly seems to work for me. Sometimes I feel like my creative side has gone walkabout and left me. This is when I pick up a paintbrush and start a painting - just making art for art's sake. When I paint just for the love of it, new ideas start popping into my head.

Have you considered an attachment for your base to use Powerblocks instead of the paddles & sand bags?
I think it'd be a great market to tap into with people that are willing to spend a premium on getting as compact as possible but without wasting space on sand bags & bases.
Most Powerblocks like my Sport Exp have a flat bottom in the middle & weigh 41kg each at stage 3, surely a rubber mould to place 1 on each side would be even more stable as well?
I'd most certainly buy one instead of designing my own to use with your spring & bag adapter, hell i'd even buy the entire modular setup too.

It's an interesting idea, but they cost a small fortune and they don't really have a wide platform, so stability might not be the best with them. Ideally you need a base platform that is at least 2 feet x 2 feet

@Kewlus I think the almost ridiculous expense is the key factor it'd be a great market to tap into, adjustable dumbbells are big sellers among people with disposable income & limited storage space as there are no other options & they have a proven history of people paying just as big for third party accesories like up to 200usd just for a knurled steel rod as a grip attachment... I think your product would very quickly & easily target that weightlifting audience as a fun cardio product even with something as simple as a base plate with side walls to complete as an end product & market itself.
I would have thought 82kg (41kg each side) would suffice but in any case mine are 45cm long and 16.5 wide, not far off 2 by 2 feet with your base mount in-between. I'd be happy to send dimensions or make an mdf mockup to trial & test if you want to send me the rest wink wink but you could get the same test results with a pair of 40kg dumbbells at under $300aud or at your local gym for free.
I really think it will help market and boost your product sales, especially in America, the home of Powerblock.

@Kewlus If you do consider production, potentially a universal base mount to accommodate all popular adjustable dumbbells over X kg, Powerblock sport/pro, Ironmaster, Nuobell, Bowflex, etc. A huge market of customers to tap into with self promotion of your unit in itself & creating even more niche in the first cobra bag that doesn't need any base taking up space if you've already got it.

I left lifting weights years ago. That buffed up body fad has long left me and I made a choice to be rather flexible with lungs than look so big I cant shampoo my hair. But nonetheless, I guess thats one use I can get out of my old powerblocks just sitting there.

Quick update: I am looking at releasing a new base in the shape of an octagon which will be able to hold hand weights of various sizes and shapes. It will come with two 20L water bags that can be used instead of weights or sandbags
