I tried Petrus but it was just a small glass that a friend opened up for his anniversary, and it was long ago. Quite exceptional from what I remember, though it was long ago when they were priced far less. It was 1990. Château Clinet is one that I like very much and also Chateau La Fleur Petrus. Both are memorable wines.
Very nice video, I enjoyed it a lot. My all time Pomerol favs are : Vieux Chateau Certan, La Conseillante, Trotanoy, Clinet, among others. Even though Petrus and Le Pin are bucket list wines, I would never spend that kind of money on a single bottle of wine no mater what.
Wonderful! It's so nice of you, glad to hear you enjoyed the video :) Agreed, guess we should have gone into a career in global financial trading to be able to afford 'em 😅 cheers... 🍷🍷
Pomerol is my favorite appellation in the world, just pure beauty. 2024 was a good year for me visiting Petrus, Le Pin, Lafleur, La Fleur-Petrus, Vieux Chateau Certan, La Conseillante, Clinet and Gazin. My favorite from Pomerol is VCC and La Conseillante, and for ”budget” i often buy Plince that i think is good quality - ratio
Loved this video. I need to get into pomerol, just looking for the appropriate price to dive into. I’ve seen Petrus but never had it nor do I know anyone that has
I think Chateau La Conseillante wines are sublime especially after Mariel took over wine making. Recently opened a 2017 (supposedly not a good vintage) but it put a smile on the faces of everyone who had it… nuff said…
Wow, you know Marielle! The wine world is small, I know, but what a coincidence. As I said in the video, we studied winemaking together in Bordeaux back in the days. Great you stopped by my video. Cheers!
Had Petrus 87 and 82. Both at blind tasting with friends. the 87 was actually called out by 2 people (what an audacity to think that someone would bring it for lunch...:)). The legendary 82 was tasted after 6 other wines which was a mistake as it didn't give hit enough space to show itself.
Hi Peter, no. Must say I haven't had this one. Sounds like a good buy though, relatively affordable for Pomerol, in a good vintage it must be nice. Tx for sharing :) 🍷🍷
Given that Pomerol is so small and the reputation is so high, are there any Pomerols that are simply not good? Last year i found a very reasonably priced Pomerol, Chateau de Sales. Is this a good wine?
Hi there, I don't think you're going to find Pomerol wines that are ''simply not good'', but you may find humble Pomerols from producers on the outskirts of the appellation that may just have a little plot of vines there and that don't make an exceptional wines out of it, but that'd be the exception, and not just a ''bad wine''. Now those on a particularly challenging vintage might be a little weak, but then all Pomerol wines are tasted blind to make sure they have a solid enough quality and typicity, so in principle there're shouldn't be bad ones at all. Now if you buy an affordable Pomerol, it's not gonna have quite the depth and density of a higher end one. Never had Chateau de Sales, but looking at reviews, it seems to be reasonable good, more on the lighter fruity side to be enjoyed in its youth, but it's a relatively affordable Pomerol relative to the res of the appellation. Hope this helps :) Cheers
Guess I missed it, couldn't mention them all, but certainly Vieux Chateau Certan IS a reference in the appellation. Merci for complementary info Russel :)
ya want my petrus experience? voila 1997 i stole a bottle in london costing 467 quid 1976 vintage the lovely clay was there but overall the wine sucked, coarse ,uglish tobbaco aromas i loved trotanoy, conseillante, fleur gai go for masseto, son! cheers
Danish wine trader here. Drank Petrus 89, 91 and 92. Absolutely amazing and one of the best wine experiences in my life.
I just got into Pomerol. I had a 2012 Clos l’eglise a few months ago and it was incredible. Now I’m hooked on Pomerol!
Yes, Pomerol does that to you, doesn't it :) Perhaps the best wine in the world indeed :) Prost!

Tried Petrus(85) but the best Pomerol i tried was the 82 Lafleur, just amazing and on level with the best burgundys i have had. Great video Julien!
Very nice! And thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks mate :) Appreciate it! 82 was a grand vintage, not surprised it was good. Santé 👊🍷

Excellent :) Tx for sharing your thoughts and experience Timmy. Haven't had Plince, will look it up. Cheers! 👍😊🍷🍷
Clinet? I have twelve Pomerol dating back to 1978, good investment, something to delight on opening!! ❤
Great! Many comments mention Clinet indeed, glad to hear you and others agree it's a nice buy. Best wishes from France 🍷🍷👊😊
I seen Petrus but at such absurd prices that I have never tasted. I do love Clinet that I have tried and will seek some of your other recommendations.
Perfect, yes Clinet is a solid reference. Cheers!
Loved this video. I need to get into pomerol, just looking for the appropriate price to dive into. I’ve seen Petrus but never had it nor do I know anyone that has
Tx much, glad you enjoyed the vid, and that it gave you inspiration to look into Pomerol deeper :) See you around YT soon, take care

Wow, that would have been something! Tx for sharing :)
Bought six bottles of Haut-Tropchaud a while ago. Tried one which was very nice but too young. Did you ever try that one?
Hi Peter, no. Must say I haven't had this one. Sounds like a good buy though, relatively affordable for Pomerol, in a good vintage it must be nice. Tx for sharing :) 🍷🍷
Is the Le Carillon de Rouget 2018 worth buying?
Haven't had it I must admit. Any one?

@RUclipsJulien you comment is very helpful. Thanks so much.
No mention of VCC?!
Guess I missed it, couldn't mention them all, but certainly Vieux Chateau Certan IS a reference in the appellation. Merci for complementary info Russel :)
Don Melchor 2021 is the Best wine in the World.
Wow, Don Melchor 2021 specifically! Good to know 🤗
