  • Award-winning author Salman Rushdie's novels have impacted contemporary literature and pop-culture immensely. A controversial figure and an author lauded for his exceptional fiction in magical realism mostly set against the Indian landscape - Salman Rushdie won the Booker Prize in 1981 for Midnight's Children. The same book was later deemed “The Best Novel of All Winners” on the 25th and 40th anniversaries of the Prize. In this video, Sharin attempts to put together a list of some of his most known works and what drinks they can be paired (judging by mood and reading difficulty level). Why? Just coz...THIRST

The layers in Haroun & The Sea of Stories actually make it one of his most difficult to understand books in my opinion. It's a commentary on the state of Kashmir, Free Speech, Capitalism, Futility of War and what not!

Hi Sharin, such a great video. I have been so scared of Rushdie books and have never ventured anywhere near it. But your video was so fun and quirky, I am going to give it a go and start with the first on the list - Haroun and the sea of stories. Thanks.

People always think that Salman Rushdie only writes things that people don’t understand ( and that’s totally justified btw, they are difficult read). But it only happens if you pick up books like Midnight’s Children ( which is a 7/10 from Sharin for god’s sake)
So I always recommend Haroun and the Sea of Stories and Luka and the Fire where they get the taste of his amazing writing and his magical realism.

I have always struggled to read Rushdie. Went back to midnight's children over and over again but could never succeed in finishing it. I think this drink regime from smoothie to rum and coke although ,acidic in nature, will help me big way! Coz I wanna love Rushdie. Also, Very well crafted episode! But I have a question. I found Homefire quite an easy read. Gorgeous prose but easy read. I am a little confused as to why the last book was rated high on difficulty level and compared to Homefire and Circe?? 🙄 Just curious.
