- Award-winning author Salman Rushdie's novels have impacted contemporary literature and pop-culture immensely. A controversial figure and an author lauded for his exceptional fiction in magical realism mostly set against the Indian landscape - Salman Rushdie won the Booker Prize in 1981 for Midnight's Children. The same book was later deemed “The Best Novel of All Winners” on the 25th and 40th anniversaries of the Prize. In this video, Sharin attempts to put together a list of some of his most known works and what drinks they can be paired (judging by mood and reading difficulty level). Why? Just coz...THIRST

ISS VIDEO KE BAAD BHARI ACIDITY BUT RUSHDIE IS WORTH IT. WRU COMMENT FRIENDS?
I need business books in mumbai.
Can you suggest any place ?
Thanks
@@mohakbangia5847 Universal Book store is a good option. You could also check on the footpaths of Fort, Mumbai.. they sell every genre of book there and it's a HUGE collection be it any subject
My favourite Rushdie books:
The ground beneath her feet
Imaginary homelands
The moor’s last sigh
East, west
Joseph anton
Midnight’s children
Joseph Anton is a such a good memoir no?
WHERE IS SHALIMAR THE CLOWN? HUE.
Where should I start Rushdie?? (I'm not comfortable in reading too much tough English)
Much needed guide. Thanks for getting more active on RUclips Books on toast 🍸
The layers in Haroun & The Sea of Stories actually make it one of his most difficult to understand books in my opinion. It's a commentary on the state of Kashmir, Free Speech, Capitalism, Futility of War and what not!
The layers are what make Rushdie novels so eye-opening and poignant
Discovery of Rushdie through Midnight's children blows your mind
Is true
Absolutely loved the style of thsi video and it gave me the much needed nudge to read more Rushdie. Brb need to get my Kashmiri kava.
Hi Sharin, such a great video. I have been so scared of Rushdie books and have never ventured anywhere near it. But your video was so fun and quirky, I am going to give it a go and start with the first on the list - Haroun and the sea of stories. Thanks.
Thanks for your message Sandra. Rushdie requires lots of patience, but the experience is truly rewarding :-)
Thanks for this video.
I wanted to read Salman Rushdie but I wasn't sure where to start. So this one is made for me:p
People always think that Salman Rushdie only writes things that people don’t understand ( and that’s totally justified btw, they are difficult read). But it only happens if you pick up books like Midnight’s Children ( which is a 7/10 from Sharin for god’s sake)
So I always recommend Haroun and the Sea of Stories and Luka and the Fire where they get the taste of his amazing writing and his magical realism.
Which book should I start with?
Vikas Chenna I would recommend Haroun and the Sea of Stories.
@@chitranair577 It is a collection of short stories right
Vikas Chenna Nope. It’s a novel
This was superb..all excited to read the new book..
A gr8 video consisting many things in a single video!
Why didn't I discover this channel before 🤯
This was an innovative video! 👌👌❤️
Simply great video. Love to hear more and more about literature and novels from you.
Here are some of his books I read long ago:
1-Steps across line
2-Imaginative homelands
3-Joseph Anton
More into his non-fiction works and interviews.
But I would like you to have a detailed review of his novels and other great novels of 20th century like One Hundred Years of Solitude, Satanic Verses, In the Heart of Darkness and some of Kafka's novels.
Try to get Mayank Austen Soofi on your show! ❤
That's what she sakid.
Really loved the review.
Thanks for watching
Very well written script and Sharin is ❤️
Thanks so much
This diet plan will for sure benefit my health ! Amazingg Video !! 😁
i have just read 20 pages of midnight's children. it was so hard but i will try to read it.
Now that you know the story, try again ...with Kahwa
@@sharinbhatti1920Bhatti for sure I will. : )
Currently 58% through it (As shown by Kindle; page number is strangely not shown).
Nailed the opening
Can Books on Toast do more reading diets on other authors as recommendations. Its vastly entertaining and very motivating.
Shame is my favourite Rushdie novel!!
And Haroun..
Rushdie’s books aren’t easy to summarize but you did it quite well. I’m a big fan of his first novels, especially from the 80’s. His latest books? Not his best works, in my opinión.
Love this.
Now do one on Neil Gaiman
Never read any rushdie book. So which one should I pick as my first read.
Go for Haroun and the sea of stories
Great work books and toast
Best video eva
I have always struggled to read Rushdie. Went back to midnight's children over and over again but could never succeed in finishing it. I think this drink regime from smoothie to rum and coke although ,acidic in nature, will help me big way! Coz I wanna love Rushdie. Also, Very well crafted episode! But I have a question. I found Homefire quite an easy read. Gorgeous prose but easy read. I am a little confused as to why the last book was rated high on difficulty level and compared to Homefire and Circe?? 🙄 Just curious.
Satya vachan sakhi!!
@@swatikushwah8170 hai na?
Story and structure were compared I guess.
Midnight is fun.. Kuch der aur den.. total paisa wasool.
@@aurishasengupta1594 haan yr.. even i want love Rushdie's writing 🤐🤒
@@xdfckt2564 The story and structure of Homefire and Circe can't be the same.
He is in my one of the three favourite authors
ORHAN PAMUK
AMITAV GHOSH
SALMAN RUSHDIE
I have read his 6 books...
Midnight's children
Moors last sigh
Two years 8months and 28 nights
The golden house
Shame
Haroun and the sea of stories
And my favourites are.... midnight's children....moor's last sigh...and golden house
2 years 8 months and 28 nights by Salman Rushdie is worth reading :)
What about Shame...to be had with Roohafza for Pakistani feels?
Vastav Ratra full feels
Shalimar the Clown... All time favourite
How are Circe and The ground beneath her feet similar?
One with the drinks
Thanks
Lv your style
I started reading Haroun and the sea of stories because Sharin recommended it so many times. But she gave the description of this book total wrong. Shah of blah is not the ruler, Rashid itself. Where Haroun lived, the sad city was democratic country.
What if I only drank ?
haha You could too
Sharin Bhatti my reaction 0:01 to 0:07
Thanks for that as well :)
What about The Golden House???
Vastav Ratra whiskey
Naipaul list please
Nice writer
2:55.
Amitav Ghosh
Midnights children
Shame
Fury
East west
I do love Shame too
Also Grimus with rat poison
That's what she sakid.
I was gonna add her. Quichotte. 😂😂😂😂
Reading Difficulty Level of Satanic Verses? Planning to start that one soon..
9/10. It's not an easy book but truly truly rewarding
What about Satanic Verses? Why did you not rate that one?
hi
sharin...
nice name ...
what is the meaning of ur name
it might be a little of considerate of you...'miss'...if you do a bit of reading of the books you make video about.
Midnight"s Children
Shame
The Satanic Verses
The Moor 's Last Sigh
Imaginary Homelands
Hmm I'm yet to read Salman Rushdie.
You speak less, and shake your shoulders more.
