No, it has to be true because the RTX4090 is 89 Tflops. Sony needs to keep up with the newest graphics cards in order to embrace PC properly. That being said, 33.5 Tflops is actually not that much in comparison.

I beat the ps1 game at least 50 times, then couldn't play games throughout my 20s. I'm about to buy the Trilogy for PS5. I honestly feel like skipping the prequels. What are your thoughts on them, compared to the sequels and original (1, 2 & 4)?

I don’t see them delaying it because of no first party releases the ps4 pro was showcasing games that was already out and coming uncharted lost legacy, horizon zero dawn to which released in 2017 even still older games was just patched depending on the devs . So no that shouldn’t be an issue on launch
theres a rumour floating about of a Gravity Rush 2 / Astrobot i think the release of the Pro beginning of 2025 end of 24 or whenever GTA 6 is released is what Sony wants its a new or a soft relaunch of the PS5 and Sony will go in hard like XBX never saw this gen!

Sony have been quiet because theyre holding games back, im expecting the next big Showcase to unveil the Pro along with GTA6 and a slate of games that obviously will be first party that take advantage of the Pro! Gpu upgrade is awesome but it doesn't worth much without a powerful cpu and much high memory bandwith to accompany it. Staying with zen 2 cpu and a tiny / insignificant upgrade in memory bandwith is a deal breaker.

Going to keep my current PS5 and build a PC this year. I don't think its needed, we haven't seen the full potential of the PS5.
its not needed............thats why its a pro, it IS needed if you want to play death stranding 2 or gta 6 in 4k 60 locked tho............or some other games that cant do both, its an upgrade for ppl to dont want to sacafice fps or visuals in games, sue in ps6 this will be the norm, but thts still at least 5 years asway

There is no point in building a PC because devs don't build games exclusively for high end PCs. The games still look the same. You don't get more assets or different-looking models or geometry. It's just sharper shadows etc. Also, if you get a base model then a mid-gen refresh and so on every 3 years, it is a better deal than a new GPU every 3 years for $2K, not even including CPU upgrades.
If someone can afford to build a good PC + peripherals and monitor, that would be better.
Wait for PS6. They release most games on PC anyway later on, with wide screen support nonetheless 😮

The ps3 had 512 mb of vram ps4 had 2gb the ps5 8gb my guess ps6 32gb of vram with a 10 - 12 core cpu at 4ghz

It was 4k checkerboard for ps4 pro that gave us 4k. Dynamic resolution scaling is done to maintain framerates.

digital foundry sux, go watch moores law is dead, its saying its locked 60fps 2 or 3X raytracing and 4k at sametime, and could get to 120 fps but not locked. but idc about how high it can go i just care that i can get locked 60fps and 4k (it snot native but who the fuck cares native is just more work for same to someties worst result) for games like ff7 rebirth and gta 6

It’ll launch with Lost Soul Aside as its showcase title, showing 4K. 60fps with Downscaling from a higher resolution than 4K for extra sharpness.
It is 33 TFs RDNA3 generous metrics, but the equivalent to 16 to 7 TFs as compared with the PS5. Not colossal, but not insignifant either. I still believe Zen 2 might be a bit problematic, alongside the 16 GB memory, but the RT capabilities sound fine, and the scaler very intriguing...
Could be the reason why they're pulling back on PSVR 2 to upgrade it for the PlayStation PS5 pro

The spectral resolution is the big one probably. I’ve head it’s comparable to DLSS and better than FSR put that with the x3 RT upgrade & games at 60 now - may get 120fps modes ( probably with dynamic scaling ) But tbh the big one is 60fps will be the absolute default on the pro. Even things like GTA6 will do 60fps. It’s a day 1 for me. Oh and things like DD2 which is a 30fps unlocked will do 60.

@Crashed131963 I don't think it'll play 4k/120fps with ray tacing. It'll likely be 4k/60fps and maybe some better ray tracing. The cost to performance of a console isn't 1:1 with that of a pc. It's closer to a 1:2 ratio since consoles are more fine-tuned and better optimized, generally speaking.
I see a lot of people say 45% isn't substantial. And while that may be true in some ways. (Because the CPU isn't that big of an upgrade.) Well, they can't really do a big CPU upgrade in terms of compatibility. Or so i though? But i think that if we get at least a more stable 60fps. I'm already pretty happy. Nobody is forcing you to upgrade/buy a PS5 Pro. If you don't have a PS5 yet it will definitely be worth it!
I think it would be nice if we have 2 NVME slots! These NVME's are so small anyway. But i don't know if it's possible in terms of bandwidth. I don't know if the SOC of the PS5 Pro would support that? Does anyone know?
The CPU up to 120 FPS will not be that effected. If we had some sort of extreme frame rate you might see hits but even just a dye shrink and a slight bump in frequency and it should be fine. Double slots is nice point.

If this is true the more relative TF number is 16,75 (TF has little to do with game performance by the way).
The Pro will not run slower than the base so 60cu is out of the question. If the Pro is derived from RDNA3 the next feasible number of CUs is 54 (56).
This would mean the GPU would run at around 2.42 GHz.
Again this is all speculation, but TF numbers mean jack, so stop worrying about them. They are a marketing aspect, there are much more important things about a potential pro console to get excited about.

Rdna 3 gpu vs rdna 2 is like comparing apples and oranges, cut that teraflop figure in half and it will be more accurate, still a good upgrade and gonna get it day one
They did cut it in half it's 67 tflops, half of that is 33.5 tflops. That's what they said the pro has.
@@rudytay83 no they just said what it gets for fp16 and fp32 performance rdna3 has 2stream processors per compute unit so they count each one of them as double that’s why it says that it’s performance for raster is only going up by 45% even tho the flop number difference is huge in reality if you were comparing them it would be 16.7 tflops, it’s an irrelevant number anyways since it’s a completely different architecture

PS5 Pro $599 is my guess. The GPU is not all that much larger than the Series X, especially if they use a 5nm node. And everything else like the CPU and RAM seems to be getting more modest upgrades. So it shouldn't actually be that much more expensive to make than a Series X which is being sold at 499
Wasn't the PS4 Pro like 3-4 times more powerful(TFLOPS on paper) than the base PS4? Not sure how this would be too much of a stretch to be believed.

PS4pro is around 43% faster than base ps4. if the ps5pro specs are actually 33 tflops then the ps5 pro should have around 54 CUs(active) @ 2.5Ghz. If sony comes out and announce the specs and if the numbers don't come close to those numbers, you're not getting 33 tflops.
Biggest improvement with PS5 PRO will be on PSVR2.

Guys, temper expectations. 33tflops sounds amazinf, but it's very important to note that RDNA3 r duel issue GPUs. Tflop counts are radically different compared to RDNA2. We are not getting 33tflop of ps5 equivalent gpu power. Cery important to highlight the 45% improvement in gpu performance here. This is the true metric. 45% increase in raw performance from ps5-ps5 pro. This combined with the "secret sauce" could see some decent improvements, but let's be careful with the hype here. This isn't a ps6. Everyone check out Moore's Law is Dead's video on the breakdown of this. Obviously he is far more knowledgeable on this than I am.

@@BryceCzirr-jz7ju if it were really 33tflops and the cpu and memory bandwidth matched, it would be VERY impressive for a CONSOLE. Yes the 4090 would still obviously trounce it (if wr assume tflops is an accurate measurement of performance), but games are coded to spec on console. PC games obviously are not coded to spec.
33.5 tflops would suggest around 300% performance improvement, but in actual reality, it's only 45% performance improvement. It's not that impressive of an improvement.

I think they measure it like it was before ZEN processor. The Jaguar processor era and HDD. You know. Teraflops count a bit different now. Then 67 and now 33.

No, the 67 is also accurate, but thats using FP16 precision. FP16 is a half precision floating point, so it dpubles the number. The TFLOP ratings that keep getting thrown around for consoles are FP32 or "single precision floating point." 67 TFLOPS (FP16)=33.5 TFLOPS (FP32). They're the same.

The OP's comment wasn't about the though, it was about the precision level used to get that number. Both the 33.5 and the 67 are both accurate and the same, just using a different precision level.

Are you specifying first party? Because the 2nd party and exclusive deals for 3rd party are so fast right now you can't even keep up. Between Helldivers and Final Fantasy(Really Good, insanely good meta score), Rise of the Ronin, Stellar blade just to name a few just in the last to next 90 days. I don't know what your strike zone is for playing but there is plenty out there. I have been hopping on and off Helldivers 3 to 4 times a week with friends. Dragon's Dogma may not be exclusive but its certainly worth looking over as well.

We haven't even got a true next gen game yet.... Some games looked next gen...... Demons souls was probably the best looking when you compare it to elden ring.... But that tech demo we seen like tomb raider , we've seen nothing even close to that yet..... All these games for ps4 and ps5 has held back next gen.... The last of us 2 and red dead 2 look as good as any ps5 game and their last gen

We are not Xbox users. I’m not going to buy a PS5 Pro without some promise of software that is going to take advantage of it. The X1X was a travesty for customers.
Regarding the PS3, I don’t believe it was a misstep in any way. If 3rd party developers were not so lazy and content to exploit out of date tech, we would be on our 3rd iteration of distributed processing. That fact has resulted in an interruption in the exponential expansion of the technological capability of consoles, and computers in general. The human brain works much like the Cell Broadband Engine.
$550. Would figure, but they could shock us with $500 price point considering the recent PS5 price drop.
Take it all with a grain of salt, but I always figured the Pro would only be 20-25 Tflops. You know, to give them somewhere to go with the PS6

Dude acting like 33tflops is impressive. The old 4090 has 83 and the 5090 is runored to be 3x more powerful than that.

Im surprised there are only 15 million PS4 Pros, & i dont expect ps5 Pro to sell well, when the average consumer will rather pay less for a PS5 slim. Theyre currently $399 & i see that becoming normal, not just a sale. My Ragnorak bundle was $560 plus taxnso more like 600 bucks & that hurt, especially upgrading storage to 2.8 TB, then getting the Iron Man Playstation VR bundle (which i absolutely love Resident Evil 7 for) that was like 1,000 bucks total, then all the software i bought. Most gamers dont want to spend that much, certainly not casuals. I do see PS5 as successful, outselling PS4, possibly even PS2, by 2030. 67 million more unit's to equal PS4 is def doable before PS6 launches, and when that comes out, PS5 is still alive til end of decade, with a great library coming. I think a lot of people see that now & will upgrade soon.
The real question is many t flops the ps6 is gonna be 🧐 since it’s gonna be backwards compatible it makes the pro pointless wait to play those super hardcore games buy them on pc or be ok with the base system
I like pc but between GPU prices and availability are basically putting a lot of people off. Buying a premium PC rig is like getting to a used Honda Accord from 5 years ago in pricing. My PC was 1200 dollars delivered and 1700 dollars with upgraded ram and storage and I have the 1070ti which was third from the top depending how you view the Nvidia stack. To buy that some positioned PC now would be two and a half to three times the money. Now my pc is going strong but its like a life raft I still really enjoy..lol

Cross gen gaming is bad. If a Pro has the same effect, I would prefer accelerating to the PS6 generation 1 year sooner and just finish this gen off on a strong uniform note.
The problem is that games cost 100-300 million plus to make so selling a premium IP to 8 million consoles for the first two or three quarters with an adoption rate of 1 in 5 is financial suicide. They only get to charge full price for a game once. That being said I do agree with you from bookending each generation. Its cleaner and it allows devs to focus just that little bit more. The problem is with development cost and game scaling for premium first party is just too much to support a new install base for the next generation. Sony would have to cut even to lose money the whole first year at least to make it happen. Shareholders and C suite executives are certainly not going to allow that to take place.
So games like R&C Rift Apart, Astro’s Playroom, Returnal, Demon’s Souls Remake, etc that all launched within the first year of the PS5 era were mistakes for not being cross gen?

The PS4 Pro sold about 15-20 million units. All they need is one in four to one in six and they will be within success metrics since anywhere between 10 and 18 million units are sold every year. The PS4 Pro actually did better than they thought it would.

@@Crashed131963 No way its 600 dollars. Its more likely to be 500 to 550. 600 is like a death sentence in Sony's eyes since the PS3. Technology and price still scale. It may not be up to old standards but performance to cost can still increase. They don't need to make more than 30-100 dollars per unit depending on demand and just like with the PS4 Pro there will be multiple iterations bringing back end cost even lower over time.
I’m expecting the retail price for the PS5 Pro will be $1,199,95 AUD, the first console ever being over a thousand dollars. My concern is if the PS5 Pro is that expensive, how much will the PS6 cost? Many countries are in a full blown economic recession and some are in a per capita recession.
I usually skip a generation, but given the Pro is so powerful, I might have to get a PS6 when it’s out. The PSVR2 hasn’t used the PS5 to its full ability, so I suspect the same will be the case for the pro.
