@@steph6337 I’ve been doing this for about 2 years. You really only need a a really small amount, not even 1/4 tsp. So you’re not really smothering the leaves. It’s like you knew I was neglecting my plants in the cleaning department 😅 thanks so much Harli so much motivation as always 🤩 also ps you are GLOWING Mama ✨
Love the tips! In my 'DIY' cleaning mixture, I use the same ingredients you do but also add neem oil, isopropyl alcohol and/or hydrogen peroxide (in a very diluted/small amount). I'm all about efficiency, so I like including these pest preventative measures in! I haven't damaged any leaves or seen negative affects! I would only make a small amount of the mixture at a time (each time I'm going to use it) as the alcohol/peroxide loses its potency pretty quickly and doesn't last as long. Won't hurt the plants if you make a big batch and use it over time, just doesn't give as much benefits.
The peroxide and neem would lose effectiveness quickly, not the alcohol. And using isopropyl with an oil is basically reducing the effectiveness from the get go, just fyi. I use a 1:6 70% alcohol to water ratio with a bit of Castile soap as a leaf cleaner if I’m treating an active outbreak to do the cursory clean of the plant after rinsing it off. I always keep a batch mixed up and it never loses potency. Alcohol only really degrades/evaporates if the container isn’t airtight. Then I treat with neem but I hate how quickly neem loses its potency (concentrates in water anyway) I always need more than a gallon for all my plants and then end up making another gallon only for most of it to go to waste. Huge bummer.
perfect timing 🥰 i’m a new plant mom so i love learning new things and especially on how to clean and take care of my plant babies! thank you for this video! very helpful!!

Great video, thanks Harli! I've been working full time since July and definitely notice that my poor plants are showing signs of neglect 😕. Your tips are really useful.
I usually put the plants in the shower&spray them off with the shower head and then spray the neem oil and let it sit for a few hours and then spray them with the shower head again, but maybe I’ll start leaving the neem on longer now.☺️ I love your videos and all your tips!❤️
Great video Harli! I use the shower method too! I prefer to bring my plants to the sink/shower to water so I hose them down and spray neem oil or captain jacks after each watering! It’s such a great preventative measure and I really don’t have pest problems
Thanks for the tip Harli! I’m excited to try the lemon water on hard water spots!! In Wisco my water is very hard here n it bothers me so much that the spots don’t go away even after wiping them down 🙄😂
Super helpful!! I always love hearing how other people care for their plants and prevent pests. I have heard vinegar works for the hard water spots too!
I rinse my plants, treat with Azamax, then spray with insecticidal soap mixed with neem oil and orange essential oil to cut down the smell. I only water every 4-6 weeks cuz this takes at least a week for get through all my plants.
Great ideas! You cannot use too much Neem Oil though because it will take out your plant despite it being a very natural alternative. I have used the spray the plants in the shower method or outside during the summer with a gentle spray. In the shower be careful not to get soil or plant leaves in your drain.....:)
I shower my plants! I dread the big ones haha they are just hard to move around. I will have to give the lemon and water a try. I have a few plants that I can’t get the hard water spots off. Got to love Utahs hard water.
This is perfect timing. I might’ve found some bugs on my pothos. I cut off three leaves that had noticeable white little blobs because I was about to leave and didn’t want it to spread
I never thought about it. But the lemon juice actually makes a lot of sense. One way to clean hard water off an aquarium is using ph down, an aquarium water additive. Because it lowers ph, it’s essentially a fish safe acidic solution. Citric acid is obviously also an acid. So it makes a of sense that an acid would work on plants too. Great tip 💡
Living in AZ I have such a hard time with hard water. The high calcium in the water just is 👎👎. (But I guess that’s why the cactus love it🤷🏼♀️) anyways these tips and tricks are great. I have a ficus tree in a huge pot with hundreds … maybe thousands of leaves. I used to put it in the rain but then we moved it up to the second level of my home which wasn’t easy, but it looks good in the room. I can’t even get it into the shower …it’s heavy! I do occasionally dust some of the leaves but it’s such a chore 🤔 Thanks
My newly purchased micans' leaves are spotty, probably from greenhouse watering/fertilizing. Are the tender, velvety leaves able to handle 1)being sprayed in the shower, 2)sprayed with dish soap mix, 3)sprayed with neem mixture, 4)wiped with a soft cloth? I'm afraid to harm them!
