  • Hauling another one of her centenary tours from the capital, 60103 Flying Scotsman took charge of 'The Salisbury Express' from London Paddington to Salisbury.
A relatively decent day for the passengers would see the train travel via Newbury and Westbury to reach Salisbury. Following a 4 hour break in the city, Scotsman would take the train back via Southampton, Basingstoke and Mortimer to return to Paddington.
With only one water stop on each leg, a less active chase would be required for this one. We begin at Upton Scudamore as Scotsman climbs the 1 in 75 grade nearing the end of her outward journey. Note the white roof on her cab, painted especially for her recent royal train duty on the NYMR. Next we took time to admire the A3 in the station car park at Salisbury as she was serviced ahead of the return journey. Penultimately, Scotsman is captured at speed passing Eastleigh, whistling a salute to the nearby Eastleigh works, and finally departing Basingstoke after its water stop, all filmed in rather gorgeous weather conditions.
A big thanks to Steven for giving me a lift to Upton Scudamore, making the shot possible.
