All this preparing for the DLC got me thinking about Mohg lately. You ever think about the features of that palace? In the Ainsel River and the Consecrated Snowfield there are remnants of petrified trees. In CS there is one very large tree and many smaller trees. In AR, around the palace ruins, there are several smallish trees but no large one. But then you look at the map and see that the ruins are built atop a flared base. At the top, among the ruins, there is a perpetual smouldering of the stone. It kinda looks for all the world like the remains of a large tree which was allowed to burn down to a stump.The last embers of that fire still glowing all this time later. I think that place wasn't just a convenient hideout for Mohg. I think he chose it specifically because it mimics the order he's trying to usurp. It's a kingdom built around a tree. Only his concept is one of revival. He's seeking to somehow bring back this long dead civilization. It's his major delusion. Instead of letting the old die away or perpetuating the current state of affairs, he wants to revive the moldering corpse of a long lost civilization. He's a bit like neo pagan movements in the real world. He doesn't really have any clue what that civilization was about because the only things that survived about them are filtered through the interpretive lens of later civilizations. Which are themselves incredibly ancient by the time Mohg came around. I dunno, lot of speculation. But Gideon calling Mohg a madman always seemed strange, given how frequently wrong Gideon is. I wonder what behavior he's referring to and I can't help but think it's Mohg's foolish revivalist tendency.

I didn't know you could Carian retaliate the blood rain, makes perfect sense though. And I think you forgot the most important status affect you can apply to Mohg: Ass beating
And as usual with beating most bosses at low level, just slap bloody slash or any other bleed ash on something fast and go to town. It will barely matter that your weapons aren't upgraded.
I used to just cheese him because I didn't have the patience for his flameblood in the second phase. But thanks to this video I managed to beat him fair & square this morning! Thank you!

you don't actually have to do Yura's quest, eleanora will invade whether or not you do his quest and you can fight her as soon as you reach Altus Plateau but you do miss out on some sick ashes of war
Dude it's my 8th playthrough first time I killed Mohg after 3 attempts instead of 3 hours . Staying close at the second phase is great but also I'm high and his delay attacks didn't bother me
Second character playthrough has gone swimmingly. I was using blasphemous blade against everything, but I switched to Great Stars for mohg and for crystal Ian's. Faith(mainly), strength ish. Freezing mohg was helpful with dragon ice breath then rot breath. Took two tries, I was pleased. A note, your spirit summons are immune to bleed

The nihil attack sucks, but it's never really been a huge problem. The bigger problem with phase 2 is that the arena is constantly on fire and the boss keeps flying around all over the place.
Instructions unclear Mohg didn't transform into phase 2 but I think I got to the dlc early. I hear some really cool violin music and there is deep hole. Gonna explore the shadow of the erdtree early!!!
I beat him after 2 weeks with my unfinish rune lvl. 80 invasion build with a claymore at + 18 and a Mimic Tear Clonething at +3 and i will maybe trying again but with better plan Note i didn't made yura quest

Did you know rahdan is nerfed so hard that you can just throw poison knives and kukri at him while summoning the bro's, and patches. He'll usually die right after he crashes for phase 2
Trying to do this on my level 51 intelligence build with a +13 ice spear clayman's harpoon. 2 hours later and I can almost get to phase 2 consistently....
Bosses get better resistances to status effects after you proc them. Resistances increase 2 times. You might be better off switching to the frost weapons as phase two starts.
@@saintriot I gave up on doing it at rune level 51. I kept getting 1 hit KO'd by my mistakes in phase 2. I came back at rune level 90 and finished the fight. Following your advice I used my moonveil for phase 1, and the ice spear harpoon for phase 2.
