Worse is when the trailers are 2 minutes of plot points so you don’t even need to play/watch because you already know the whole plot
Music producer here. We use basically the same 4 percussion libraries for cinema stuff because they are both massive in size think 200gb + and also extremely expensive.
They really are trying their absolute hardest to kill Star Wars. Every Star Wars game that looks interesting gets canceled and all the ones that look like dogshit are the ones that get released.
Fallen order and survivor are preety good with no drama.
eclipse doesn't showcase anything tho... like it's an epic trailer sure but then what ? what would be the gameplay ? what would be do in it, who are we playing as ? can we create our character and chose our race/path ? The trailer doesnt show anything substential yet you say it look interesting... to me it's just an epic mini "movie"
don't get me wrong, outlaw doesn't seem that exciting as of now, sure the open world seem's interesting as i'd love to explore many classic planet and all that but other than that i'm not too excited about it but AT LEAST in that trailer you know what to expect

Outlaws looks, feels and sounds like a mix between a theme park ride, and a bad isekai - the main character seems more like an "invincible" modern-day girl, acting the way a tourist would at Disney World, thinking that there'll be zero ramifications for her words and actions because everyone she is interacting with is stuck following their script.

@@whitefang-zm9zt Isekai because the MC talks and acts like someone from our world that has been thrown into the Star Wars universe and is getting to interact with all these popular people. In a similar way to someone interacting with totally in-character theme park ride actors - they react how the characters in that world would, and the MC stands out like a sore thumb.
Why are developers sooooooo desperate to release the same game with the same lead character. Not even the "Strong female character" just the redundant "I'm cavalier, I'm cool, I have a cool pet, and I say cool things during tense moments because it's 'funny' and it makes me look cool. My dialogue was written by someone that doesn't go outside or talk to people." Seriously old.

Seems like they are trying to pull a Fallen Order but with clear differences mixed in. Swap the Male for a Female, not a Jedi & no lightsaber, blaster instead, replace Bd-1 with a different cute sort of sidekick / pet. Even her appearance is somewhat Cal Kestis, but not quite.

It worked better back when writers had interesting lives and some personal experiences and relationships to draw from. Modern writers mostly just draw from things they’ve seen in other moves and shows, because watching media IS their life experience.

These people seem to embrace their awkwardness and attempt to make it 'cute' and write their versions of how their characters would act in situations with that 'cute-coolness.'
To be honest, there were several Star Wars Games that did not have light sabers, before Disney bought them. "Shadows of the Empire" "Episode 1 Racer" "Rouge Squadron"

That's because the industry has been infested with the same Hollywood corporations and executives.

I thought I was the only one noticing this.
Its so unfortunate that many in the industry who wanted games to become as big as Hollywood and as impactful as cinema decided the best route for achieving this is to drop the uniqueness that games can provide and lean all in on being as Hollywood as possible.

Ubisoft is a video game foundry. They create a mold of a game and pour different alloys into the same mold. Some are shiny some are grey and dull… but they’re all the same.
I don’t think it’s the issue with Star Wars and it’s world building/depth of the franchise. If you read into the comics and legends that aren’t live action, there is so much more depth. You can definitely have a good Star Wars story without lightsabers. The problem is Disney and how they decided to handle Star Wars, not the Star Wars universe.
The biggest red flags for games are day one dlc’s, content that’s locked behind a paywall, and over pricing with no gameplay shown
second biggest is the new design for the character. She looked okay, average in the prior showcases. Now she looks like she's born of the happisburg dynasty.
Most people have a couple of what one could call flaws in their apperance. They took all possible flaws they could and shovbed them into this design.
Yeah I find it weird that the only game play so far for this game to my knowledge was the game showcase a couple years ago. Seems weird that we are only a few months out from release and this was a cinematic trailer and not a game play one. Gives unfinished vibes to me.

An Star Wars game without using a Jedi/Sith can absolutely work, the problem is that these people doesn't have any creativity whatsoever and they cancelled anything that was supposed to be good like the Star Wars game on development by Visceral Games, Project Ragtag with the direction of Amy Hennig, Republic Commando 2, Battlefront 3 (the original), The Force Unleashed 3, and the dark gritty game that was supposed to be the darkest Star Wars presentation till this date, Star Wars 1313.

Yeah OG star wars was cooler. I remember randomly picking up an encyclopedia for it as a kid at a library and they had some biotechnology race that became one with machines but it wasn't the force. Like omg the stuff to make a great game and movie is already in the universe Disney literally just needs to open up the vault

There's a whole shit ton of people that like space games man. People that want to be immersed in a big open sci-fi world where you can fly a ship around and just be a person in that world, trading, bounty hunting, pirating and shit. I don't think this game is actually going to deliver on it but I think it's aimed at those types of people.
I am interested in a bounty hunting Star Wars game but I would’ve liked something more along the lines of the Mandalorian or being able to create your own bounty hunter, because this just seems to have a generic look to it

Kenshi was made by 1 guy over 14 years. It's one of the most unique feeling games I've seen. Undertale... 1 guy. Hollow Knight... 2 guys.
These games are so great as is but most don't see the light of day anyways and even if they do...
With funding they could've become something far more great.
What we need is a big platform that people subscribe to via small monthly fee and solo/small team indies can sign up to push game ideas, perhaps demos or proof of concepts, game jam games, etc. where paying customers vote on the best games and once a threshold of "likes" is hit depending on the amount of funding needed and then this game will get made, the voter may take part in feedback loops, early access and get a copy for the game when it's released.
There should be tiered subscription levels starting from something small like 5$ a month where you get like 10 games to vote on (numbers need to be calculated and researched) and if a game doesn't get finished in time you get your vote back, things like that...

The difference between Outlaws and Eclipse is that Outlaws looks like a trailer for the next Marvel movie while eclipse looks like you're about to be thrown into an epic intergalactic war.
To me the second looked like a mix of a Dune and Mad Max trailer. I guess the bad thing is, that games nowadays want to be movies so bad, they don't make good games anymore.
You're not crazy, my favorite parts of Star Wars are the Jedi and Sith conflicts, but also when it can get really philosophocal (a prime example: Kreia from Knights of the Old Republic 2. If you're not familiar, I suggest you look it up)
But there are people who want more stories like Rogue One and Andor, where there are no Jedi and Sith and it's just a gritty, down to earth story about people trying to survive and affect change.
The only problem is this game is gonna do the same thing Battlefront II 2018 did and force you to follow a terrible story and embody a character you hate and give you the option of always being a good person who joins the rebels or being a bad person who turns good and joins the rebels. Remember games like KotoR and SWtoR etc with choice and roleplay and 2005 animations before we got battlefront with only PvP and jedi survivor with 2005 animations... terrible time to be a Star Wars fan, even worse to wish for any standards in a SW game.
The Jedi Knight series was so awesome... you could choose to have Jedi or Sith powers.
There's a reason why SWTOR was awesome, you could be a sith lord with their own story. Why are games companies so scared to revisit that.

Tbf the subscription is for Ubisoft's rental service (kind of like Xbox Gamepass but for shovelware).

Easy Star Wars game idea: You're a semi famous soldier in the Empires army in the opening sequence and it serves to establish the gritty reality of the Empires military and as a basic tutorial towards the end of the sequence you die a brutal death to an explosion or whatever and then you swap to the "fresh recruit" side character that has followed you through the opening sequence, after you swap to the side/main character you finish the objective and all the heroic deeds of the battle are attributed to you as you are one of the few survivors of your platoon within the battle, due to your "achievement's" you are recommended to a stormtrooper academy this sequence would be relatively short and would serve as world building/a more in-depth tutorial along with possibly character establishment for any side characters such as an officer or a fellow nameless and faceless stormtrooper who the MC befriends, after this you begin to serve the empire as a storm trooper being send to support military garrisons on some outer rim planets committing atrocities to keep the populas in-check, as you advance through the story the resistance grows and you face greater threats untill it erupts into an all out war just like the opening sequence and idk you end up fighting on rebel spaceships until you either crush the rebellion brutally or you die a hero of the empire but you also die in vain. (just posting this to show how easy it is to come up with a fresh idea for a star wars game).

Star wars outlaws trailer = An goofy cliche plotline thats an supposed to be a funny heist movie where they have to do one more job to earn their freedom.
Star wars Eclipse trailer = An epic sci fi world filled with mystery and darkness that will draw you in take you on an adventure and have you fight to survive.

The views and things we get as well as the music are waaaaaay better for the eclipse trailer. If they made a movie OR a game. I think either would have been good. If they follow through. Outlaws looks like forgettable garbage that will end up as a free game after half a year from release on subscriptions like PSN. 😂

Star Wars Eclipse is Quantic Dream. Totally different game and approach. Also its not cancelled.
Star Wars Outlaws is from the developers of Divison Massive Entertainment and they were not great at story telling or having interesting characters. But the worlds they build were insane actually. And I think you can see that in Star Wars Outlaws as well. Now we have to wait and see how it turns out gameplay wise.

You vould tell a new epic, but these people are uncreative, so they just make boring side stories, that canonically cannot have an impact on the story. How boring.
If it comes at launch, it's cut content paywall as Asmon says, a DLC is supposed to be to complement the base complete game, that's why normally takes months or years for a DLC after a game, because it's new content not intended at the start or not ready THE FIRST DAY, not whatever is doing Ubisoft

The world building of Star Wars WAS great until they retconned all the extended universe books that were actually good and replaced it with an unlikable mary sue.
The fact that Eclipse is being developed by Quantic Dream [Detroit: Become Human, Heavy Rain] while most other Star Wars projects become laughing stocks is... bizarre. That's like as if DC Studios was producing garbage nobody wants and their most anticipated project was developed by Nickelodeon.
(btw I really like Quantic and Remedy [Quantum Break, Control] works, but they are not conventional games, just like Batman by Telltale is not what you'd normally expect from a Batman game)

I am a 40+ year Star Wars fan and Lucasfilm has made it very clear in recent years that none of it is for me anymore. Just makes me appreciate things like KOTOR even more, back when Star Wars was fun and for everybody.

Kotor got me into Star Wars. To this day I believe there hasn't been any Star Wars setting that even comes close to the setting in those games including any movie. And I'll die on that hill lol.
Just replayed KOTOR again recently. It is still the best SW game I've ever played. The sequel is also awesome, but the pacing of KOTOR1 is chef's kiss.

When I watch the eclipse trailer it has me wondering what's going and what is gonna happen and has me interested. Outlaws gives me Wolfenstein Youngblood vibes

Star Wars Eclipse isn't cancelled (at least not yet). It's a game developped by Quantic Dream, the studio that made Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls, and most recently Detroit Become Human. They're all narrative games, with a heavy focus on story over gameplay, something more akin to an interactive movie than an action game, so don't expect it to be too gameplay heavy.
That does mean however that the graphics should be pretty close to what we saw in the trailer, so that's pretty cool
The problem is, this game is being made by David Cage. He is one of the worst writers in the video game industry. I have no idea how he isn't out of the job yet. While Detroit is not that tragic, Heavy Rain, Beyond, and especially Fahrenheit are writing disasters. I have zero faith in Eclipse.

If they actually fully modeled the character off of the actual model, used as a reference for the character, it would have looked much better. Honestly, when you bring an actor in for this type of thing THEY are the character.
