I switched to an EGO mower last year and... I never thought I'd love an emower to gas, but it's a BEAST. I bought an ego blower this year. Dangit if you aren't making me want to go ahead and purchase the trimmer, too!
I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use ruclips.net/user/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.
Just bought the EGO 1521S yesterday 5/21/2021 from Lowes. What can I say, this trimmer is a beast. Super quiet and super smooth. I've had Echo and Stihl before and they where good trimmers but this thing is in another league to me. No mixing gas and oil, no vibration beating you to death. I'm sold on the battery powered equipment.
I wish I could be sold on battery equipment as I know a 40 V trimmer can out perform some gas models. But the issues I have are that these batteries only last 3 to 5 years only and that’s under optimal conditions and charging them properly. To replace them cost a minimum of $80 for a four amp and can go up to $200. But my biggest complaint is they don’t tell you there is no way to recycle these batteries. They are just like the electric car batteries. It’s a great idea but no one tells you that they’re 3k-5k to replace and to date there is no way to recycle these batteries. Some can be dismantled to extract materials to make new batteries but most go into the landfill.
@@craighellberg4366 ---- Since the cost of charging them is neglibale, you need to figure the cost of Gasoline, oil ( or the mixed cans which is even more costly ) plus any service needs within that 3 to 5 year battery. Does a gas trimmer use $100 in gas and oil in 4 years? $25 a year? Guess it all depends on the lawn size / mins of use per week during the season. Ive got an acre of land and use about 1 40-1 can which costs $21 a year.
I don’t know what kind of string you are using, but that was pretty bad. Use some better string, let the head come up to full speed, then go at it. Why did you need so much bump feeding when cutting cardboard? Something’s not right. I just returned two EGOs because they weren’t any more powerful than the flexvolt.
@@zacjohnson8404 Well - most people are not professional landscapers and .09 should do the trick. Trust me, cardboard is like razor blades to string. Go try it
I have the Milwaukee trimmer it is awesome and the same batteries work on all my impacts,drills, blower,a whole slew of led lights and the 16 inch chainsaw.to name a few.
I like the lightness of this machine as I have a weak shoulder. I found the power to be adequate for my 10000 and 6500 sq ft. lots.. I can't follow the string loading instructions even with diagrams. This video demonstrating reloading as simple. My gas trimmer is much heavier. I tested all the other trimmers: Ryobi, Toro, Milwaukee etc.. They have a higher voltage battery, but I read 18 volts is sufficient for my needs. They were all quite straining for my shoulder. I regret that i don't know if this machine is compatible with a 95 string, but I can try it. I highly recommend this machine for trimming and edging.

I use my ego full carbon shaft trimmer all day doing commercial properties the thing kills my Stihl commercial gas trimmers and I'm not blowing cancerous exhaust down my throat all day... Love it hopefully it lasts a long long time for me the thing is an absolute monster. That being said I would like to give the Milwaukee a try some day seems very quality as well.
I think the EGO and GREENWORKS are the two best in this test. The GREENWORKS just needs better string or a little bit of wearing-in to keep the string from tearing off so easily. And plus you are not going to be tearing through super tough weeds all the time. Unless you live out in the country.
Hi Andrew, I know this is an older video but I just bought a replacement head for my ryobi expandit trimmer. It lasted 2.5 years (the head) but I got tired of it popping string inside the head periodically and usually on the hottest days. I bought the 1-2-Trim Pro series. No more bump and hopefully feed. You use 3 pieces of 12 inch string folded in half so you have 6 string ends. Where the string attaches, it pivots so less shock to the string when hitting something hard like concrete or wood.Takes like 30 seconds to replace. I just put mine on and went out and edged the sidewalk. Took about 5 min's off my normal time to trim it and made the edge deeper. I then went along one fence like butter. My RYobi Expandit feels like a new piece of equipment.
As always...liked the video but I'm gonna tear this one apart. First of all, I think that cardboard was really hard on that string and affected the results of the test. If you did this test at least 2 more times do you think the results would be the same? I think the cardboard was snapping the string off randomly and if you did more tests your results would vary. The string could have broken off inside the Ego head for instance because of the cardboard...would you have "Failed" that one? Is there another brand of string that is more durable that wouldn't break down as easily to give the trimmers a better chance at making it to the end of the test? Just throwing those ideas out there to see how they "blend"...lol. Still fun to watch and until the string breaks, you do get to see which trimmer chews into the cardboard "grass" with the most gusto so...still gotta give you credit for the demo. Carry on bro! Hey mate - OK I agree that this may not have been the perfect test BUT what would have been. If I tested on real grass people would have said one grass was thicker than another - you get the point. Also I used brand new ECHO commercial string on all models so they all had an equal shot. I bet if you ran this test 100 times you wold get nearly the same results. YES I would have failed any brand in this test - I had 6 pieces of cardboard - that's it. Make it or break it. Next test is going to be EGO vs Millwaukee on real grass running through the battery completely. Should be fun

I know this is an old video but appears to be variation in the test. 1. The passes were right to with the exception of the Ego and Greenworks. 2. Didn’t congruent If string varied between test. 3. Appeared to be variation in brushed vs brushless head units.
That stihl model you’re using is called the fsa 90r, it has adjustable rpm dial. You say its a fail when you give 0 ramp up time and have lowest setting for rpm. Also you arent doing the bump feed properly, must be full speed to work right. Says that in manual plus sales man would tell you that.
It's on full speed - I used the same line on all products. No line is made for cardboard as far as I know. In any case, I'm really not impressed with any of the stihl cordless tools. Maybe their next gen will be better.
He should have used a digital inch pound torque wrench to measure the actual torque/power these trimmers put out or something similar. He used the POS old style trimmer head on the DeWalt that I hate & have on my 20V DeWalt & he started the cuts from right to left on the DeWalt, Milwaukee & Ryobi also. It does make a difference because the DeWalt spins counterclockwise & the Ego does also. You can tell he's Ego biased in the way he purposely cut shittier into the cardboard with the others. I will give the Ego props for the self loading feature but the Ego loses a lot of points because you can't use any universal attachments like you can with the RYOBI 40V Brushless. Ego & Milwaukee use their own proprietary inner shaft connector to attach attachments on them. I have Milwaukee, Ryobi & DeWalt batteries BTW & I would buy the Milwaukee but I can save a lot of money using my universal attachments on the Ryobi 40V trimmer. TTI is the parent company for Milwaukee & Ryobi BTW but Milwaukee screwed up IMHO for not using the universal attachment connector system & would sell a lot more of them if they had. I hope someone machines an adapter that can be used on the Milwaukee to accept universal attachments.
@@jetenginethrust863 KIteArmy's response: Yes I'm biased towards EGO because the tool performed best (in my test and opinion) better than any other model. I think it would be strange to prefer a brand that does not perform well. 2nd - EGO does have a universal tool - called the multi-head. 3rd - depending on the rotation of the head, I started on the appropriate side of the cardboard to keep it fair.
What about the 36 volt Makita trimmer? I have been watching your reviews for quite sometime now and my 3 choices - EGO - Milwaukee - and Makita. I was hoping you would have tested the Makita so I could rule it out completely. I don’t have anything that uses either brand of batteries so I am starting out fresh. I was at Home Depot yesterday and I left more confused than ever. Both the EGO and Milwaukee seemed heavier than my gas trimmer which I am replacing. Have you thought about using a brand name gas trimmer to use in this test against the Milwaukee and the EGO it would really be a great test in my opinion. But it’s not my time doing the testing. The EGO carbon fiber auto load will blow your mind. Not to mention the other tools they make are just as solid - also cheaper than Milwaukee. Not much to say about Makita other than I would never buy one.
Cardboard grass is not cut from the same side for all trimmers, is that because the heads don't all rotate in the same direction? The the line is going fastest at the end of the line, you seem to be very close to the cardboard. I notice when you pounded the trimmer on the ground, you were chewing on the wood. I suue would like to know the weight difference. I am old and want the lightest I can find. Thanks.
Kite Army my issue with your test is you got the head too close to the cardboard, causing the line to break prematurely. It skews the results. I’m always getting on to my helpers because they break the line too quickly, wasting time with daily reloads when I generally get 2 days worth of lawns on a single head’s worth of line.
Andrew…. I enjoy your videos and I think you get your point across WELL. I am looking to buy the Ego 56v trimmer or the Toro 60v trimmer (not in your comparison, but I know you cannot include them all). I like the addition of the two speed switch on the Toro. I will be using this trimmer on my ¼ acre where I live and also on a half acre lot where I have a cabin. I don’t want to blast the neighbors next to my ¼ acre lot. That’s what I like about the two speed switch plus variable speed trigger on the toro. I read that it is hard to control the speed on the Ego but it looks like a great trimmer. Any thoughts of yours would be appreciated.
Thanks - I wish my neighbors were as considerate. I have tried some of the Toro equipment and would give it overall a fair grade (quality/performance) for the most part all of EGOs equipment I would give an excellent grade too. The auto load on the EGO can't be beat - BTW that is the model I reccomend

You really should redo this test and not fail a trimmer cause the line broke inside the head. And you should also use the gen 2 greenworks trimmer. Keep up the good work! Love your videos.
Thanks mate - I didn't fail them because the string broke, I failed them because they did continue to feed string. Trust me it was totally frustrating that I had to fail any of the trimmers - that was not my intention but what you saw is what happened :)

I'm trying to switch over most of my stuff to battery powered. Ego is very tempting but I was looking at one in the store today and if you never saw any videos on them you would think they are junk. They feel low quality even next to Ryobi. I really liked the feel of the DeWalt especially the handle. I walked out with a milwaukee because all my tools are red and I didn't like the exposed vents on the DeWalts cutting head. That flexvolt was very tempting though.
To me it looked like you wanted 2 of them to come ahead. The direction you cut makes a difference and the two of them you went left to right and they both made a big difference on cutting, where as the others you went right to left. With that said, if they do not load the string or run it out way to fast, it does not matter what way you cut. *LOL* Anyway, it would be good to see how they all do going left to right. Seems like the dewalt would have done better if that was done. Not that I am a dewalt guy. Just that it almost made it across and if going the other way may have done just as well as the best one in your test.
Okay - the direction I moved depended on the rotation of the head. I'm making a video now to help people understand trimmer rotations and how it works....stay tuned
Come on dude the flexvolt is the most powerful, you just don't know how to load them the line advance on the dewalt might be the best I've ever used I own the Milwaukee and dewalt 20v and have the flexvolt at work the 20v and Milwaukee have the same power but the flexvolt is quite a bit more powerful

I was gonna get milwaukee but also like kobalt 80v..best part of milwaukee is all there tools are 18v..all trimmers ur basically paying for a badass battery which it would suck if u couldnt use it for other tools...I actually got my mom cheap hyper tough 40v at walmart for 40$ w.o box(return) I like that they use 2 20v batteries..actually not bad for small yard homeowner
Very nice presentation. You say a lot in a very short time. Maybe you could have done a little better, but I sure could not have. Love the set up and comments, even from your Non fans. I think you are adding some good value for people in the market.
To properly run string trimmer tests, you should pair the trimmer with the maker's own brand of lines. For example, my EGO carbon fiber split shaft trimmer would break lines at an unacceptable rate when I used other brands of trimmer lines (including Husqvarna Titanium Force, Oregon Magnum Gatorline Super Twist). Both the Husqvarna and Oregon are premium lines but they would snap off miserably when I used them on the EGO. When I used EGO's own brand of lines on the EGO trimmer, the lines lasted a long time.
@@Kitearmy Undoubtedly fairness was your intent, but some trimmers just don't like some other brand's lines that they are not designed to run on. Although the packages of the lines may not say so, each type of line has its own ideal or tolerable rpm range. If the trimmers are run outside of a line's design rpm range, the trimmer may not cut well or the line may break more often. Therefore, the test would actually be fairer if the same brand of line was used on the same brand of trimmer.
ok could you do a review on the Worx trimmer, it has a great idea for the string with ease of replacement string heads and a if I'm not mistaken a lifetime supple of the string reels. thnx for sharing

Just to be sure,The only difference is battery power +size+weight ? The 1 ou reviewed has the same features as the more expensive models? Why didn't you review the more expensive ego string trimmers? Kite Army i gotta ego powerload and its a tuff trimmer i got 3 2.5 batteries i use with it and i bring the charger when i do yards with it it can take down any tuff tall nasty weeds i throw at it
You forgot to mention the Milwaukee is a quik-lok attachment system that Milwaukee makes attachments for, you have the ability to change from a trimmer to a hedge trimmer, pole saw, and edger, plus you can use that same battery on a drill, impact, grinder, compound Miter Saw, table saw just to name a few and whatever M18 tools Milwaukee makes. Can EGO do that? You can save a lot of money by just buying the attachments instead of having to buy a separate tool for each one.
Hello...BCA1200 is part no....its still made and can be bought...if you live in Europe, UK or Australia. I've gone online to see if any overseas company will ship one to the US...so far no dice. Guess Ill buy another stringer attachment and convert to blade.
Prob. just sound marketing...Ego does make the dedicated two handed brush cutter...so I guess they felt would take away sales to sell both in US (would be redundant).
Doesn’t the EGO have 2 different size batteries the 56 volt 2.5 and their 56 volt 5.0 amp ones? If so which one is recommended and I thought I heard you say you tested their 2.5. I could be wrong my health is down a bit so is my thinking. I am buying one for my 47 year old son that moved back home to help my wife and I maintain our yard and house so we can stay here. My Still gas trimmer is 5 years old and has had a starting issue since it was new that they would not take care of so their products are my very last choice. No so cool that you commented. Yes they sell different batteries - they only change the run time not the power. I really like the 2.5Ah - I can trim for about 45 min. EGO is the model I told my mom to get - the carbon fiber auto load
The 2.5Ah battery is fine, should have at least 1/2 hr runtime and takes only 20-30min to charge. Plus it will be a bit lighter than the 5.0 Ah. EGO also has a 7.5 Ah. The 5 and 7.5 are best for the mower and snowblower.
@@generaltso9402 I like the 2.5Ah for the blower and trimmer. I think you need the high speed charger to charge in about 30 min. I think the standard charger is about 1.5 hours
@@Kitearmy Yeah, I like it for those and the hedge trimmer also. I now use the high speed charger that I got with the snow blower last winter. But I don't remember the 2.5 taking 1.5 hrs on the old charger, maybe 40-50 instead of the 20-30 I first thought. Anyway a 2nd 2.5 is recommended for backup! And truthfully I usually wear out before a fully charged battery. Oh and I highly recommend the online warranty (3yrs?) registering of each battery since they are pricey. I've not had any issues, but hopefully EGO would follow thru if you did. I do wish they made a separate pole saw that could be a tool only purchase. I don't want to pay for a combo unit that I don't need.
I just want to say if it cuts grass around poles,plants,and a pool cage I'm fine (I have a kobalt 80v lineup, try it out it is GREAT) also do a mower power too and include kobalt

No I have never used a snapper cordless tool - I believe these are made for snapper by another manufacturer. I will make sure to include snapper in the fall beach ball blower bonanza update.
You shouldn't be doing this. You probably loaded the string wrong. Trying to advance string 3" away from a 2x4 or a solid object is not how it is done. I have never seen anyone have as much trouble with string as you just had, It got to be the user. You should go back to your "lab" and read the directions.
Kite Army Could you include TORO Powerplex 40V outdoor tools in your reviews??? I was surprised, after searching your videos, to find out you have not included one TORO tool in any of your comparison tests??? Does TORO provide demos to test? TORO Powerplex tools have been available for more then two years now. NO blower, trimmer or hedge trimmer reviews! Toro claims quick charging and better battery life than other 40V systems?? What do you say???
Hey m8. I have never used a toro tool for the sake of testing (lie - I have reviewed the toro timemaster). I checked out the specs on the blower and they are much lower than most of the blowers I test. They may (or may not) have faster charge times - doubt it - but performance wise they are just not their. Make sure you check out the strongest models in this test and the string load test.
Andrew no offense! My hurried typing and lack of proof reading came across badly!! My Bad!!! Your Channel does a great job doing tool Comparison testing for us the public!! Let me restate, "After searching you videos, I have not found any reviews of Toro CORDLESS outdoor tools in any of your comparison tests." Is there a reason. Do you find Toro product hard to get for review? Is Toro a hard Co.to work with? I'm in the market for cordless outdoor tool line (trimmer, hedger, blower, and edger) to replace the cord and gas. Toro has a moderately priced outdoor tool line with very few in depth quality reviews. Just wondering why they don't get included in any comparison test I can find?
@@gmanneod8085 Honestly I generally only try to include stuff that I would consider buying. Not that a Toro tool could not be good, but the specs seem inferior to the equipment I test. Also, most of the tools I highlight on my channel I buy from the store - so even if a brand did not offer me the tool it does not mean it is excluded. Case and point - I dropped nearly $600 on a Stihl cordless blower (my wife is still pissed). Also, no offense taken on your comment and I will keep an eye out on Toro to see what comes down the pike.
I tested it a while ago and was not impressed (heavy and underpowered) - also it is 1 of the lest popular high voltage cordless string trimmers. That being said, if they do a huge overhaul, I would consider including.
@@Kitearmy have to disagree, I have both Milwaukee m18, echo 58v and ego first generation ..i tested them all on grass real world condition, not cardboards...echo was strongest of them all.. Yes, it heavy but well balanced so yu don't feel the weight. Yes, the echo batteries have issue cutting out.. But they warranty them.. So if yu get a good battery.. It's most powerful. I would recommend Milwaukee if yu have Milwaukee tools... If no tools.. Ego is the way.. But I also know ego has had battery problems too.

@@Kitearmy no channel or website on these stuff.. But I am a DIY guy who like tools, OPE and hate gas carb gum problems.. Only gas I keep is honda mower, echo gas backpack blower, echo chainsaw. And M18 blower for small jobs.
Ego really is the best. I think the powerhead trimmer is even more powerful than their standard trimmer (carbon fiber handle or standard). We all saw how the standard one handled in the video (leaps and bounds above the rest). Milwaukee makes a solid product, but they are trying to squeeze an already constrained power system (their 18v nominal line) of course it's because all their tools work with the batteries. It would be cool to see Milwaukee do a Makita thing and double up batteries for 36v. If they can maximize 36v like they have 18v then their outdoor power equipment would compete even better.

If this review was based on power why did you give up when the string stop feeding? Did you use the same string? Did you wind it properly on the head? I like how you used cardboard but this review seems bias. It's sad how many subscribers you have.

@@Nick-cz7co Right - the point that I made in the video and I will make it here again is, I learned that it doesn't matter how much power you have if your head won't advance the line. I think many people were able to draw fair conclusions from this video about the trimmers. I think you are smart enough to do so as well.

To replace them cost a minimum of $80 for a four amp and can go up to $200. But my biggest complaint is they don’t tell you there is no way to recycle these batteries. They are just like the electric car batteries. It’s a great idea but no one tells you that they’re 3k-5k to replace and to date there is no way to recycle these batteries. Some can be dismantled to extract materials to make new batteries but most go into the landfill.
@@craighellberg4366 ---- Since the cost of charging them is neglibale, you need to figure the cost of Gasoline, oil ( or the mixed cans which is even more costly ) plus any service needs within that 3 to 5 year battery.
Does a gas trimmer use $100 in gas and oil in 4 years? $25 a year? Guess it all depends on the lawn size / mins of use per week during the season.
Ive got an acre of land and use about 1 40-1 can which costs $21 a year.
I don’t know what kind of string you are using, but that was pretty bad. Use some better string, let the head come up to full speed, then go at it. Why did you need so much bump feeding when cutting cardboard? Something’s not right. I just returned two EGOs because they weren’t any more powerful than the flexvolt.

I have the Milwaukee trimmer it is awesome and the same batteries work on all my impacts,drills, blower,a whole slew of led lights and the 16 inch chainsaw.to name a few.
They have come a long way. Also great that they have some real size batteries - THANK GOD. I might do a real head to head on EGO vs Millwaukee

I like the lightness of this machine as I have a weak shoulder. I found the power to be adequate for my 10000 and 6500 sq ft. lots.. I can't follow the string loading instructions even with diagrams. This video demonstrating reloading as simple. My gas trimmer is much heavier. I tested all the other trimmers: Ryobi, Toro, Milwaukee etc.. They have a higher voltage battery, but I read 18 volts is sufficient for my needs. They were all quite straining for my shoulder.
I regret that i don't know if this machine is compatible with a 95 string, but I can try it.
I highly recommend this machine for trimming and edging.
I'm glad I bought an Ego trimmer it's been getting two yrs now running strong 💪

If you need only a single tool you can probably get away with it BUT as soon as you need that blower you are stuck
I use my ego full carbon shaft trimmer all day doing commercial properties the thing kills my Stihl commercial gas trimmers and I'm not blowing cancerous exhaust down my throat all day... Love it hopefully it lasts a long long time for me the thing is an absolute monster. That being said I would like to give the Milwaukee a try some day seems very quality as well.

I think the EGO and GREENWORKS are the two best in this test. The GREENWORKS just needs better string or a little bit of wearing-in to keep the string from tearing off so easily. And plus you are not going to be tearing through super tough weeds all the time. Unless you live out in the country.

Hi Andrew, I know this is an older video but I just bought a replacement head for my ryobi expandit trimmer. It lasted 2.5 years (the head) but I got tired of it popping string inside the head periodically and usually on the hottest days. I bought the 1-2-Trim Pro series. No more bump and hopefully feed. You use 3 pieces of 12 inch string folded in half so you have 6 string ends. Where the string attaches, it pivots so less shock to the string when hitting something hard like concrete or wood.Takes like 30 seconds to replace. I just put mine on and went out and edged the sidewalk. Took about 5 min's off my normal time to trim it and made the edge deeper. I then went along one fence like butter. My RYobi Expandit feels like a new piece of equipment.

As always...liked the video but I'm gonna tear this one apart. First of all, I think that cardboard was really hard on that string and affected the results of the test. If you did this test at least 2 more times do you think the results would be the same? I think the cardboard was snapping the string off randomly and if you did more tests your results would vary. The string could have broken off inside the Ego head for instance because of the cardboard...would you have "Failed" that one? Is there another brand of string that is more durable that wouldn't break down as easily to give the trimmers a better chance at making it to the end of the test? Just throwing those ideas out there to see how they "blend"...lol. Still fun to watch and until the string breaks, you do get to see which trimmer chews into the cardboard "grass" with the most gusto so...still gotta give you credit for the demo. Carry on bro! Hey mate - OK I agree that this may not have been the perfect test BUT what would have been. If I tested on real grass people would have said one grass was thicker than another - you get the point. Also I used brand new ECHO commercial string on all models so they all had an equal shot. I bet if you ran this test 100 times you wold get nearly the same results. YES I would have failed any brand in this test - I had 6 pieces of cardboard - that's it. Make it or break it.
Next test is going to be EGO vs Millwaukee on real grass running through the battery completely. Should be fun

I know this is an old video but appears to be variation in the test.
1. The passes were right to with the exception of the Ego and Greenworks.
2. Didn’t congruent
If string varied between test.
3. Appeared to be variation in brushed vs brushless head units.
That stihl model you’re using is called the fsa 90r, it has adjustable rpm dial. You say its a fail when you give 0 ramp up time and have lowest setting for rpm. Also you arent doing the bump feed properly, must be full speed to work right. Says that in manual plus sales man would tell you that.
You also using the default orange line, .095. That line is amazing for grass and thin brush work. But you cutting through cardboard.
It's on full speed - I used the same line on all products. No line is made for cardboard as far as I know. In any case, I'm really not impressed with any of the stihl cordless tools. Maybe their next gen will be better.

He should have used a digital inch pound torque wrench to measure the actual torque/power these trimmers put out or something similar. He used the POS old style trimmer head on the DeWalt that I hate & have on my 20V DeWalt & he started the cuts from right to left on the DeWalt, Milwaukee & Ryobi also. It does make a difference because the DeWalt spins counterclockwise & the Ego does also. You can tell he's Ego biased in the way he purposely cut shittier into the cardboard with the others. I will give the Ego props for the self loading feature but the Ego loses a lot of points because you can't use any universal attachments like you can with the RYOBI 40V Brushless. Ego & Milwaukee use their own proprietary inner shaft connector to attach attachments on them. I have Milwaukee, Ryobi & DeWalt batteries BTW & I would buy the Milwaukee but I can save a lot of money using my universal attachments on the Ryobi 40V trimmer. TTI is the parent company for Milwaukee & Ryobi BTW but Milwaukee screwed up IMHO for not using the universal attachment connector system & would sell a lot more of them if they had. I hope someone machines an adapter that can be used on the Milwaukee to accept universal attachments.

I think it would be strange to prefer a brand that does not perform well. 2nd - EGO does have a universal tool - called the multi-head. 3rd - depending on the rotation of the head, I started on the appropriate side of the cardboard to keep it fair.
What about the 36 volt Makita trimmer? I have been watching your reviews for quite sometime now and my 3 choices - EGO - Milwaukee - and Makita. I was hoping you would have tested the Makita so I could rule it out completely. I don’t have anything that uses either brand of batteries so I am starting out fresh. I was at Home Depot yesterday and I left more confused than ever. Both the EGO and Milwaukee seemed heavier than my gas trimmer which I am replacing. Have you thought about using a brand name gas trimmer to use in this test against the Milwaukee and the EGO it would really be a great test in my opinion. But it’s not my time doing the testing.

The EGO carbon fiber auto load will blow your mind. Not to mention the other tools they make are just as solid - also cheaper than Milwaukee. Not much to say about Makita other than I would never buy one.

Cardboard grass is not cut from the same side for all trimmers, is that because the heads don't all rotate in the same direction? The the line is going fastest at the end of the line, you seem to be very close to the cardboard. I notice when you pounded the trimmer on the ground, you were chewing on the wood. I suue would like to know the weight difference. I am old and want the lightest I can find. Thanks.

You should be going right to left on every trim and keep the head a few inch away from the cardboard riged test or just dont know how to use a trimer
OK - though pay close attention - they don't all spin the same direction! Maybe both of us don't know how to use a trimmer.
Kite Army my issue with your test is you got the head too close to the cardboard, causing the line to break prematurely. It skews the results. I’m always getting on to my helpers because they break the line too quickly, wasting time with daily reloads when I generally get 2 days worth of lawns on a single head’s worth of line.
Unfair test some you cut left to right and others the other way against the rotation of line. Where is the makita?

Andrew…. I enjoy your videos and I think you get your point across WELL. I am looking to buy the Ego 56v trimmer or the Toro 60v trimmer (not in your comparison, but I know you cannot include them all). I like the addition of the two speed switch on the Toro. I will be using this trimmer on my ¼ acre where I live and also on a half acre lot where I have a cabin. I don’t want to blast the neighbors next to my ¼ acre lot. That’s what I like about the two speed switch plus variable speed trigger on the toro. I read that it is hard to control the speed on the Ego but it looks like a great trimmer. Any thoughts of yours would be appreciated.
Thanks - I wish my neighbors were as considerate. I have tried some of the Toro equipment and would give it overall a fair grade (quality/performance) for the most part all of EGOs equipment I would give an excellent grade too. The auto load on the EGO can't be beat - BTW that is the model I reccomend

Thanks mate - I didn't fail them because the string broke, I failed them because they did continue to feed string. Trust me it was totally frustrating that I had to fail any of the trimmers - that was not my intention but what you saw is what happened :)

I'm trying to switch over most of my stuff to battery powered. Ego is very tempting but I was looking at one in the store today and if you never saw any videos on them you would think they are junk. They feel low quality even next to Ryobi. I really liked the feel of the DeWalt especially the handle. I walked out with a milwaukee because all my tools are red and I didn't like the exposed vents on the DeWalts cutting head. That flexvolt was very tempting though.

To me it looked like you wanted 2 of them to come ahead. The direction you cut makes a difference and the two of them you went left to right and they both made a big difference on cutting, where as the others you went right to left. With that said, if they do not load the string or run it out way to fast, it does not matter what way you cut. *LOL* Anyway, it would be good to see how they all do going left to right. Seems like the dewalt would have done better if that was done. Not that I am a dewalt guy. Just that it almost made it across and if going the other way may have done just as well as the best one in your test.

Come on dude the flexvolt is the most powerful, you just don't know how to load them the line advance on the dewalt might be the best I've ever used I own the Milwaukee and dewalt 20v and have the flexvolt at work the 20v and Milwaukee have the same power but the flexvolt is quite a bit more powerful
I even dislike the balance of the flexvolt - it has the goofy head. But happy you like it!

To properly run string trimmer tests, you should pair the trimmer with the maker's own brand of lines. For example, my EGO carbon fiber split shaft trimmer would break lines at an unacceptable rate when I used other brands of trimmer lines (including Husqvarna Titanium Force, Oregon Magnum Gatorline Super Twist). Both the Husqvarna and Oregon are premium lines but they would snap off miserably when I used them on the EGO. When I used EGO's own brand of lines on the EGO trimmer, the lines lasted a long time.

@@Kitearmy Undoubtedly fairness was your intent, but some trimmers just don't like some other brand's lines that they are not designed to run on. Although the packages of the lines may not say so, each type of line has its own ideal or tolerable rpm range. If the trimmers are run outside of a line's design rpm range, the trimmer may not cut well or the line may break more often. Therefore, the test would actually be fairer if the same brand of line was used on the same brand of trimmer.

You forgot to mention the Milwaukee is a quik-lok attachment system that Milwaukee makes attachments for, you have the ability to change from a trimmer to a hedge trimmer, pole saw, and edger, plus you can use that same battery on a drill, impact, grinder, compound Miter Saw, table saw just to name a few and whatever M18 tools Milwaukee makes. Can EGO do that? You can save a lot of money by just buying the attachments instead of having to buy a separate tool for each one.

Hello...BCA1200 is part no....its still made and can be bought...if you live in Europe, UK or Australia. I've gone online to see if any overseas company will ship one to the US...so far no dice. Guess Ill buy another stringer attachment and convert to blade.

Doesn’t the EGO have 2 different size batteries the 56 volt 2.5 and their 56 volt 5.0 amp ones? If so which one is recommended and I thought I heard you say you tested their 2.5. I could be wrong my health is down a bit so is my thinking. I am buying one for my 47 year old son that moved back home to help my wife and I maintain our yard and house so we can stay here. My Still gas trimmer is 5 years old and has had a starting issue since it was new that they would not take care of so their products are my very last choice. No so cool that you commented. Yes they sell different batteries - they only change the run time not the power. I really like the 2.5Ah - I can trim for about 45 min. EGO is the model I told my mom to get - the carbon fiber auto load
The 2.5Ah battery is fine, should have at least 1/2 hr runtime and takes only 20-30min to charge. Plus it will be a bit lighter than the 5.0 Ah. EGO also has a 7.5 Ah. The 5 and 7.5 are best for the mower and snowblower.
@@generaltso9402 I like the 2.5Ah for the blower and trimmer. I think you need the high speed charger to charge in about 30 min. I think the standard charger is about 1.5 hours
@@Kitearmy Yeah, I like it for those and the hedge trimmer also. I now use the high speed charger that I got with the snow blower last winter. But I don't remember the 2.5 taking 1.5 hrs on the old charger, maybe 40-50 instead of the 20-30 I first thought. Anyway a 2nd 2.5 is recommended for backup! And truthfully I usually wear out before a fully charged battery. Oh and I highly recommend the online warranty (3yrs?) registering of each battery since they are pricey. I've not had any issues, but hopefully EGO would follow thru if you did.
I do wish they made a separate pole saw that could be a tool only purchase. I don't want to pay for a combo unit that I don't need.

No I have never used a snapper cordless tool - I believe these are made for snapper by another manufacturer. I will make sure to include snapper in the fall beach ball blower bonanza update.

You shouldn't be doing this. You probably loaded the string wrong. Trying to advance string 3" away from a 2x4 or a solid object is not how it is done. I have never seen anyone have as much trouble with string as you just had, It got to be the user. You should go back to your "lab" and read the directions.

I was surprised, after searching your videos, to find out you have not included one TORO tool in any of your comparison tests??? Does TORO provide demos to test? TORO Powerplex tools have been available for more then two years now. NO blower, trimmer or hedge trimmer reviews! Toro claims quick charging and better battery life than other 40V systems?? What do you say???
Hey m8. I have never used a toro tool for the sake of testing (lie - I have reviewed the toro timemaster). I checked out the specs on the blower and they are much lower than most of the blowers I test. They may (or may not) have faster charge times - doubt it - but performance wise they are just not their. Make sure you check out the strongest models in this test and the string load test.
Andrew no offense! My hurried typing and lack of proof reading came across badly!! My Bad!!! Your Channel does a great job doing tool Comparison testing for us the public!! Let me restate, "After searching you videos, I have not found any reviews of Toro CORDLESS outdoor tools in any of your comparison tests." Is there a reason. Do you find Toro product hard to get for review? Is Toro a hard Co.to work with? I'm in the market for cordless outdoor tool line (trimmer, hedger, blower, and edger) to replace the cord and gas. Toro has a moderately priced outdoor tool line with very few in depth quality reviews. Just wondering why they don't get included in any comparison test I can find?
@@gmanneod8085 Honestly I generally only try to include stuff that I would consider buying. Not that a Toro tool could not be good, but the specs seem inferior to the equipment I test. Also, most of the tools I highlight on my channel I buy from the store - so even if a brand did not offer me the tool it does not mean it is excluded. Case and point - I dropped nearly $600 on a Stihl cordless blower (my wife is still pissed). Also, no offense taken on your comment and I will keep an eye out on Toro to see what comes down the pike.

Noticed that it was about half and half on which direction you started from. A fair test would have all trimmers start from the same side.

Why you always leave out echo 58v units.. The echo 58v is the strongest of all cordless that I have tested.
I tested it a while ago and was not impressed (heavy and underpowered) - also it is 1 of the lest popular high voltage cordless string trimmers. That being said, if they do a huge overhaul, I would consider including.
@@Kitearmy have to disagree, I have both Milwaukee m18, echo 58v and ego first generation ..i tested them all on grass real world condition, not cardboards...echo was strongest of them all.. Yes, it heavy but well balanced so yu don't feel the weight. Yes, the echo batteries have issue cutting out.. But they warranty them.. So if yu get a good battery.. It's most powerful. I would recommend Milwaukee if yu have Milwaukee tools... If no tools.. Ego is the way.. But I also know ego has had battery problems too.

@@Kitearmy no channel or website on these stuff.. But I am a DIY guy who like tools, OPE and hate gas carb gum problems.. Only gas I keep is honda mower, echo gas backpack blower, echo chainsaw. And M18 blower for small jobs.
Ego really is the best. I think the powerhead trimmer is even more powerful than their standard trimmer (carbon fiber handle or standard). We all saw how the standard one handled in the video (leaps and bounds above the rest). Milwaukee makes a solid product, but they are trying to squeeze an already constrained power system (their 18v nominal line) of course it's because all their tools work with the batteries. It would be cool to see Milwaukee do a Makita thing and double up batteries for 36v. If they can maximize 36v like they have 18v then their outdoor power equipment would compete even better.
Im a missing the best corded weedeater video? Not trying to get a $230 weedeater with a $150-$350 battery that only lasts a few years.
Go with a Ryobi - they are cheap but will be in the dumpster in 2 years

If this review was based on power why did you give up when the string stop feeding? Did you use the same string? Did you wind it properly on the head? I like how you used cardboard but this review seems bias. It's sad how many subscribers you have.

@@Kitearmy your title was "most powerful" yet to you didn't test the"power" of every string trimmer. You gave up when something failed that had nothing to do with the power of the string trimmer. So how is someone going to get an accurate opinion?
@@Nick-cz7co Right - the point that I made in the video and I will make it here again is, I learned that it doesn't matter how much power you have if your head won't advance the line. I think many people were able to draw fair conclusions from this video about the trimmers. I think you are smart enough to do so as well.
@@Kitearmy I do agree that if the head is shit then the trimmer is worthless. Do you think you could look into why the string didn't advance? Maybe it is design flaw , operator error or the head doesnt work well with that string.
@@Nick-cz7co The 3 trimmers who performed OK in this test have updated heads. I did another test where I loaded heads and had similar results. I'm confident in this test and stand by it. I welcome anyone to make a review - I would be interested to see how it works out.
