- In this class we study the development of the Seder HaTefilah (Liturgy) into a fixed form, and how that liturgy was eventually canonized. We then discuss its evolution into the codex that we call the Siddur, and finally its entry into the world of print.
A few corrections: 1) R' Yehudai Gaon was leading the Yeshiva during the Abbasid Caliphate, not the Sassanid Empire. 2) The Arizal Siddur study is called Tefilat Chaim, not Birkat Refael. 3) The volcano reference was not meant to link a direct cause of literary slowdown. The point I was trying to convey was that we shouldn't be surprised by a literary slowdown from Jews (that are averse to writing Oral Torah in the first place) during a very difficult century. A notable exception of this time are the Classical Payytanim, although their output was not usually Halachic in nature.
Thank you so much for this amazing history. SO rich. Much appreciated. Toda RAba
