I prefer this to the original, probably because I heard this first when I was about 8 years old and didn't hear the original version for a long time after that.
I always avoid video's that are sponsored or have some line below the title with a product or service attached. First time I've ever clicked on one. Worth it.
It occurs to me now, after 35 years, just what a treat this number is. Roland Gift sounds like no one else, "Ever Fallen In Love" was originally by the Buzzcocks - a band that sounded like no one else at the time - and "Something Wild", the movie included in this video, was like nothing else, at least in the first few minutes of its running time. Roger Ebert said at the time that director Jonathan Demme "closed his eyes and stepped on the gas". So the whole thing was completely brand new, which may explain why neither the movie nor the song got as successful as they deserved - people typically look for something familiar, for better or worse.
FYC are a great missing band! What happened to them? I loved their sound. Every song they performed was excellent. I wish they had produced more music.
The clips are from the 1986 film Something Wild, which had one of the best 80s soundtracks ever (in my opinion). However, I'd like to know which cinema the FYC filmed their parts in.
The movie theater was the Scarsdale Plaza in Scarsdale NY. Unfortunately it was closed in the late 80's early 90's and then opened again in 1996 but closed for good. People protested but it was torn down around 2000. The lobby became a garden and an apartment building was built to the rear of the businesses where the auditorium was. I grew up going to this theater and saw movies like Ghostbusters in it.
Noticed that, too. Still love the Buzzcocks version much more but FYC definitely did it justice. Someone above stated this song was how FYC entered the US…forgetting that they showed up in the US around Christmas 1985/January 1986
It's a damn fine cover version this. Actually one of the best in the 80's...something far removed from the original Buzzcocks version. Didn't like FYC at all but this track was a gamechanger.
@@paulrichardson9843 It's on Tubi for free--I've watched it five times this week!! Some of the audience in the video are actors in the movie, but it goes by too fast to see if they all are. Fun movie with a great soundtrack!
@@missmuffet3874 can't disagree with that. However Roland never looked like he ever suffered the desperation and loneliness implied in the lyrics. Rather like when One Direction mullered Teenage Kicks. They came across as smug rather than skinny losers.
@@dellaanniehughes4533yes Pete Shelley did it good. But Pete wrote the song about falling in love with a male straight friend. So he would have definitely felt all that agony and emotion when he was singing that song. x
Happy Valentine's Day 💕

You've done so much good by this.
Best cover song ever made ! 😎😎🍹

FYC are good but the Buzzcocks original wins hands down for me. Punk/new wave energy!
Very underrated song! I love this band
Its a cover but a nice one at that.
Agree, this was an advert on Amy Whinhouse live performance, never been pleased to see advert
@@CalamityHillMusicso what most songs are covers or samples you don’t even realise
@jimmykray9583 I do realise. I make music.
bring em back, fine young cannibals, we need em TODAY.
I don't know. They kind of drive me crazy.
Some people knew when they were on to a good thing.
What for!? They'd be zombies.
They were a great band ❤
Simply fabulous. Legendary Roland Gift!

😅 same as me 😂 and I'm playing this tune all the time for the last few weeks ❤🎉🎉
Was in college from 83 - 89. Easily my favorite band during that time. Glad you are listrning to them more now.
This banger was part of my childhood. Great memories ❤
The coolest band Ever

Must agree, he was kinda unique, with a voice to match, top banana choreography 😂👍

Agreed. And a pretty daft movie, too. :))
I think having Pete Shelley in the audience is a great touch!

Watching "Something Wild" brought me here!

@@studonaldson1497 😞 ja, leider ich auch nicht. Das ging alles viel zu schnell im nachhinein

whats the name of the movie? and is it any good?
Something Wild - early Jonathan Demme movie. It's very good imo, but not sure which or if it's on a streaming platform.

Buzzcocks is better but it's still a good cover

Did this surpass the original ? ….yes I think it did.
I wouldn't say that
Don't talk out of your rear entry.
Take no fecking notice buddy, I think you've got a good point, apart from that shite synth solo.
They are both brilliant versions in their own way
Yes this version definitely is better than the original.
Definitive version
80s were bad ,but what was good was good, just saying
It is good, but not as good as Buzzcocks original.
I agree but Roland was gorgeous so extra points from me for that. xx

@dellaanniehughes4533 1D probably never even heard the original by Undertones before recording
This might be the worst cover I've ever heard
Wow is this supposed to be singing? It literally sounds like someone drunk doing karaoke 😂 cover is miles better.
That was just his voice, one of the things what made them so big was his unique voice
This is the cover you idiot 🤣
