The moon Presence to me is a mother. it’s attacks are filled with aggression, I read this as grief as grief is a strong emotion. the way it grips the player in one of the endings is possessive and protective. The ending where the hunter ascends gains a form like her, I feel this ending is what she wanted, a true child yet she died to get it. I feel the dream part is what she dreams Geirman is her child forever with her and protected by her. The nightmare is in a way her reality, without a true child. Her wanting other gods gone I see as her culling other potential mothers. More surrogates for her and more chances for a true child.
I was thinking the same thing. The whole game is filled with the themes of motherhood. I think when Gherman the first hunter encountered her they struck a deal and he became her “child”.
I think all the great ones are drawn to the city because of Mirgo’s cries. Also it’s funny that the only way to have an audience with a great one you need a umbilical cord, which comes from a infant

Gehrman lost Maria and beckoned The Moon presence and it bound him to the dream, if you can’t resist the moon presence it absorbs you and the next hunter will pass through, or 3rd ending To find hunters worthy of being its ’surrogate ‘ and once you’ve gained the knowledge of great ones umbilical cords, your hunter therefore Had pale blood ( stared by the 1st transfusion guy) and could withstand the moon presence ultimately bearing it and being reborn ‘elevated ‘ to a baby great one, I felt this was its ultimate purpose, My kind of head canon I guess 🤷🏻♂️ great video man!
