As for Shovlin, this is the first time I've heard of him being criticized for the qualifying debacle. Q1 isn't a time to take chances. If they must delay for better track conditions, they should leave that to Q3 to get the very max out of the car and when there are fewer cars on the circuit. There was absolutely no need to place the team in jeopardy in Q1. I suspect Wolf is thinking of the Mercedes sponsors when he says this is not the way he wanted to say goodbye to Hamilton. Once again Hamilton exceeded expectations, finishing much higher than predicted.

Mercedes built an amazing engine on a good chassis. Hamilton still needed to drive it and manage the tyres. They won together. There should be gratitude on both sides. Schumacher left Benetton after them giving him a car to take him to his first two titles and then dominated in the Ferrari. Alonso also won his first two titles with Renault before leaving for McLaren. Drivers need competitive cars. If Hamilton had not been robbed in 2021 for his 8th title, he would be retiring now, rather than seeking a competitive car. Mercedes has not delivered. The way he handled that fisaco was also very classy.

Mercs success was due to the engine being incredible and a ton of money thrown at the car then also having an incredible driver who can get the best out of the car with enough free practise time to set it up perfectly (hence why he had so many issues recently setting the car up, not enough time. You can also make the argument that his first title should have gone to Massa if not for corruption, so playing what if isn't exactly useful.
