Just file it down the switches? GL on your search for the endgame i want to hear keyboard sound tests ...
Bro i've handwired keyboards in the past and i always chose switches carefully bc i knew i was never but NEVER going to change them out. You're a MONSTER 🙂
I honestly thought normal profile switches had some kind of standard, especially since there are keyboards with hot swappable switches around. It really sucks that they don't fit in the frame.
Bro, this keyboard by no means follows any of the standards that keyboard hardware actually complied with. There legit isn’t a pcb and the plate looks homemade 🤣
@@aidendinh6930 yep, his plate is a really tight old plate and thus it probably won't allow new switches to fit. Plates right now are kinda standardized but switches tends to have different housings and sizes can vary a bit.
i binge watched all of your videos after getting to your channel for you japanese content and i'm actually addicted. Your content is awesome and i really can't stress enough the sheer amount of motivation and inspiration your videos gave me. Not only on learning japanese and getting back to my grind but also trying out new things and doing stuff i really wanted to do for a while just for the sake of doing it. It was all possible thanks to your content and i can't thank you enough. (i'm portuguese so sry if my english is a bit broken ashdiuasdhaisu)
Keyboards one of the things that I never understood how so many people can be so hard into. But keep up with what you're doing, I will still watch all your videos :D
After watching this i'm really glad i bought a mech keeb with hot-swap PCB as my first "proper" keyboard XD. Also idk why but this mini-series about your keeb adventures is really chill and entertaining at same time(keep up the amazing work). That ending was painful, so here's some virtual hugs and cookies! :)
I've only seen this issue on older plates. I don't have a source but my guess from working on older boards and personal experience is older plates are made tighter to compensate for the loose tolerances in the old cherry style switches (Tecware Phantom/QR TKL/Blackwidow Ultimate). I've compared the bottom housings of an older (2000-2005) MX black to a newer HG version and the outer perimeter of the worst housing was off by 0.9mm (most were somewhere between 0.4-0.6mm off), putting those older MXB's in my newer board results in a lot of switch rattle (easily solved by just stuffing tissue/paper around the switch). If you're willing to do so, I'd recommend filing the plate very slightly till both old/new switches fit snugly. Love the vids btw 🙏
I just watched part 1 yesterday finding this channel now this one comes out! Either youtube is recommending you or it know I'm looking at new keyboards :p
This reminded me of the Neapolitan ice cream switches I got, which had a slightly different problem. They were loose in my plate but with thick stems that could mess up my keycaps. I ditched them for Bona U4t switches. I’m now pretty wary of buying switches from odd manufacturers that haven’t been well tested by others.
The old gateron/switch moulding is different than the new one and some of the old plate doesn't support the new one. I suggest maybe it's time to try a new board?
if you are looking for silent switches without the mushy feeling of silicon silencers, i HIGHLY recommend wuque WS silent linear/tactile my goodness, they use a completely different mechanical silencing mechanisms instead of the crappy mushy silicon dampeneres on the stem and it makes such a difference, just feels like regular linears but without the noise.
What a sad ending. I'd honestly recommend getting something hotswappable just so that the frustration/inconvenience of swapping out switches becomes a non-issue.
I've jst recently found your channel becuase of the Linux challenge and I've been loving all of the stuff you do!! You've also motivated me to buy myself a keyboard with topre switches, I'm excited to see what they feel like! Also sad how these switches didn't fit at the end of this video :c
I remember I bought 3d printer 5 years ago to build mk till this day I hadn't done it but I built over 15 projects, one of them was involved in uni project that didn't get added but was acknowledged on how good it was designed, little do they know I made over 8 versions before and spent over 20h on design, with over 24h of printing over 2 weeks
When i type on a keyboard i never think "oh i need my keys to have this much resistance". I just need a keyboard that presses buttons without sticking.
It's one of those things where if you get too into it, then whatever the cheap one you liked before was becomes worse by comparison. Similar to chocolate, coffee etc when you see what "they can be" after trying a fancier brand. I think ignorance is bliss on this one.
The switches dont fit because they are kailh style instead of cherry but you can get a Ciy tester68 for 40 dollars which is a hotswappable keyboard which means that you can switch out your switches in 10 minutes. Anyways i have been loving the mini series and want it to end happily 🙂
Era of cherry as the best gaming switches has passed away. Nowadays, there's a lot of great switches for affordable money. I fell in love with Akko switches and amount of them ^^
i fucking belly laughed when i saw the thumbnail for this. i was literally just thinking i should buy a mechanical keyboard for the video you made then BAM: sad puppy thumbnail.
I don't get it, why not buy an actual working keyboard kit and build one from there? There are so many entry level kits nowadays and so many nice switches you can choose from (always lube pls). Modding a hand-wired keyboard sounds very tedious and I bet won't provide a good experience either.
lmao, saw the previous video last night so the new title made me go "oh nooo" because I just knew it wasn't a happy "never buying new switches". Sorry for your troubles but I was entertained throughout.
ofc it won't fit. hot swap switches have different tolerance for it to be fixed into position. usually the bracket should be large and the switch mounts to the PCB.
The term "hot swappable switches" makes no sense, the PCB is the thing that are designed to be hot-swappable, not the switches. Googling "hot swappable switches" also yields no relevant results except one article that doesn't seem of much expertise. Generally speaking, the switches should retain the original Cherry form factor that they are based on for maximum compatibility. What's happening here is most likely the fact that they made the switches too thick, either to reduce wobble or by accident, which in turn made the switches too thick for this specific plate. There are thousands of different hotswap and non-hotswap keyboards with slightly different plate/PCB designs, which is why switches needs to be standardized to be compatible with all of them, but at least in the case of this plate, these ones didn't fit. There is nothing that indicates that "these are hot-swap switches" on any sales page of any Cherry MX based switch.
never going to fall in love again 💔 I'm surprised by the love for linears, I like resistance on the bottom of keys to help stop bottoming out and getting impact stress on my fingers.

It's day 127 of learning Chinese. Again you are amazing! Also I'm so sorry ur switches don't fit. I could feel the frustration. God damnit why is it so hard to get it all to work and align 😭 all we're asking is a great typing experience without selling our souls
i know these are supposed to be fancy switches or whatever but doing the whole box and plastic tray thing seems away more wasteful than just a zip lock bag with a sticker on it.
Ironically they're budget switches, as well as the cheapest switches I've ever bought, and I've only bought cheap switches. And kind of yeah, I can understand for some extremely expensive switches, but they at least could have made the tray more compact.
The Drop Holy Pandas that I bought a while ago came in similar packaging. Carton box with the Drop logo containing plastic containers of sorts holding like 10 switches each. You had to slide them out of the container, kinda sick.
JESUS CHRIST what in the hell is that keyboard internals? No PCB? What is that mess of cables??? Dude just why would you ever even consider desoldering and resoldering that literal spaghetti board?

They probably are, but if these are on the larger side of tolerances and his plate is really tight, than it won't work
they're standard, the only thing that isn't is his plate 😂😂

My favorites for linears from akko are the jelly blacks the pre lubes are nice.
new video always brightens my day :)
OOoooff brutal XD I really feel your pain at the end
the pain at the end
The Jelly White does have a better smoothness and more lively sound compare to the Vintage White
Have you tried or thought of trying split keyboards? I know you have no interest in getting another board, I'm just curious on your thoughts :)
Lube them bad boys up
(Also please buy a hot swap board sometime in the future it'll change your life)
these sounds like something I'd like to test gaming with.
I just love your Thumbnails
Time to get a hotswappable board... And down the rabbit hole you go again...

I got fake holy pandas of temu lubed and spring swapped for a heavier spring them and they are actually good as hell.
Tragic ending, but great video!
Hey man I rly love ur vids, can I ask how old you are or how long it took u to get so good at video editing coding and etc
take a shot everytime livakivi says "like this"
you could try bag lubing some switches.
Why don't you file down the plate?
lol what an anticlimatic cliffhanger xD
will we get a next part where you actually get to use the switches?
i fucking belly laughed when i saw the thumbnail for this.

Though Hall Effect or Alps cope works too
are you lubing your switches? pretty sure the steppines is all about dry or worn out lube on your older switch
I have 2 hhkb's, about to get a third one. While I do love mechanical there's something different about topre which I love
Bro... You need a hot-swappable to avoid the pain
I love this guys videos but I feel like he does everything the hard way and then at some point just gets tired of it
dude the whole video I was shaking because I thought they would break or something, but this ending is just depressing really :(
