Happy 75th anniversary Miracle on 34th Street!
Released 06/11/1947!
During this trailer, some for the people who were in New York talk with Ed Shaper (who made this film) about what kind of feelings and emotions they had and what different kinds things that this film was about. They were also filming the Ghost and Mrs. Muri at that time. This also includes the original end title card with the last few seconds of the footage of 2 people kissing that was unused in the final 1947 film.
They didn't want this film to be thought of as a 'Christmas movie' that would only attract the Xmas season month and a limited age group; younger children. I believe it ran the following year/ Christmas season with an even larger attendance. As film goers realized it was for all ages.
It's always my first movie to watch this time of year. And many years we even pull it out to watch in the summer:)
I should have also added that Darryl F Zanuck insisted the movie be released in May.
That's correct. And the parade scene was shot during the actual 1946 Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade in New York (according to Maureen O'Hara's commentary in the 60th Anniversary Edition DVD of the movie).
This is one of my all time favorite movies!
People (rightfully) talk about the trailer for Psycho, but they forget about this one.
I had no idea “groovy” was being used in the 40’s lol
That's "groovEy" . . .
And here I'd always thought that "groovey" was a hippy-dippy Sixties expression (at least now I know I've been spelling it right for the last 55 years . . . )
Rest in peace Maureen O'Hara
they should make more trailers like this
It's groovy!
How could she have seen it three times if it was only released once as a preview?
I did not know that "groovy" dates back to 1947 California.
Yes, Virginia... And there always will be.
:D
(and great "stagey" studio lot ambience, too! "Simply Groovy!" Yeah, soulierinvestments, I didn't know that either...)
Who is this actor playing the Producer? Anybody know? What about the others?
Groovy in 1947?
You'd be surprised at how old some terms are.
What a great trailer for a great movie!
So that's the guy that gave Citizen Kane the green light. Interesting.
The part of Mr. Schafer was played by Charles Tannen. Some think he was parodying Darryl F. Zanuck.
So that's the trailer Right?
I didn't expect to see a girl in a bikini walking behind the narrator before the bit with Rex Harrison, Anne Baxter, and the ones I don't recognize.
Who is this actor beautiful and charming 1:08 ?
it is a good movie.
It's everything the trailer promised.....and *MORE.*
2:18 - :23 Smart like Hitchcock. :D
This was well before Psycho.
brilliant trailer, terrible acting!
