These ads represent the true warriors in television commercial production. Low budgets, no makeup artists, harsh news studio lighting, amateur copywriting, all done locally by people who probably do other things for a living like the car guy who isn't any of the above, but he is buying the air time and paying for the production down at the local TV station, so nobody is gonna tell him he looks like an idiot.
The Big Lots commercial was not a local commercial because Big Lots had 300 stores at the time and was a Top-10 bargain store chain at the whole time. The Greenleaf ad was not a local commercial because it was aired in cable commercials all the time on April 1994 from The TV Food Network (now Food Network) Fox, ABC, and NBC to TNN (now Spike TV), TBS, and USA Network (even though i wasn't born at the time when this commercial was aired). and the Night Owl Theater music sounded like the beginning of a Full House or Family Matters episode.
Dang I spent a big hunk of my childhood in Chattanooga. Cue the flashbacks. Those Greenleaf ads used to scare the crap outa me as a kid, not this one per se, but their radio ads...nightmare fuel.
I grew up in the area of these advertisements, but don't recall the Olds dealer in Calhoun. Now, if you can find the E Z Pawn Chicken commercial from this same area and time frame you have RUclips gold!
I thought the lady in the kitchen was going to talk about medicine or life insurance...she was selling cars & trucks...W-T-F. The smoking lady in the last ad definitely wanted some Green Leaf lmao.
I'm in southwest Missouri and the very first commercial is very similar in style to car dealership commercials we had. Were they all like that in the U.S.A.? lol
The Big Lots Ad Is National, Not Local, But Still Very Cheesy And Cheap Ad Based Off Of Larry The Technician Of Dallas, Texas. Dallas And Columbus, Ohio Were Actually 2 Sisters Of 90s Cheesy Animation, Especially For Kids.

She opened the cupboard, apparently didn't find any snacks, then went into the fridge and decided on butter.
looks like someone's got a case of the mondays
the fridge doesn't even have a light inside
"so we did get back on are feet *reaches into cupboard* or so we thought." turn on subs for commercial = "her badcock."
It would have been awesome if she had pulled out a cold draft Beer 😂
Same... the struggle is real lol....
I always loved local commercials. They may be bad and under budget, but they have more nostalgia value than national commercials will ever do.
Looks like Dr. Doofenschmirtz made the first one
*TRI-STATE AREA*
It was in a tri-state area too lmaoo
Haha! I drive past that first commercial's place quite a lot. It's still going strong.
As bad as these are, I still love the 90's nostalgia feeling these give off.
Mr. Service is so vaporwave though.
His brother's a gynecologist, Mr. Cervix 🤣
@@bradleyrusso2865 LOL!
@@DrummerGrrrl thank you so much, ladies and gents, drive safely and don't forget to tip your waitstaff!
i love how local comercials are low budget and cringey! XD
The same in brazil
I like them
Notice how the Greenleaf ad never actually specifies what their "help" entails, or even what problems they're supposed to help me solve.
I guess it's a depression hotline?
Its just help
They help your "problems" sleep with the fishes.
AG OWN EEEE
Green LEAF 🍃🚬💨🌬

K
Because this wasn't a local commercial compilation it was just a string of commercials he had on VHS from the early 90's?
I always loved the 'cozy' feeling these old local commericals give off
Close the Refrigerator door lady!
What? Are you trying to cool down the whole neighborhood?
You're going to need that money to pay your 49% interest rate on your great new car...
0:53 Pretty sure they've since replaced all the exit signs in Georgia when they renumbered them to the nearest milepost.

Damn I miss the 80s lmao the first one is great
Montage Matador This is from 1994
@@airaero5473 80s production values pretty much stuck around in local commercials for all of the 90s.
"Spay-shull"
The Green Leaf ads used to freak me out as a kid, or at least the radio ads did. I loved the Gettin Stupid commercials.
i remember sitting at home during the day and seeing commercials like this all day long.
I miss late night theatre style programs. I saw some real stinkers.
Ain't nothing like a local ad to make you feel at ease at 1:00 in the morning.
So true.
Yeah but that's not a local commercial. Big lots is in 47 States.
I grew up in the area of these advertisements, but don't recall the Olds dealer in Calhoun.
Now, if you can find the E Z Pawn Chicken commercial from this same area and time frame you have RUclips gold!
I'm so sick of watching current "news" - this was refreshing to stumble upon!
Every one of those Mr Service Oldsmobiles, looks like a blown head gasket waiting to happen !
I might make some local commercials reminiscent of these when my restaurant opens
This is so 90s
YOU get a Cutlass Ciera! And YOU get a Cutlass Ciera! AND YOU get a Cutlass Ciera!! CUTLASS CIERAS FOR EVERYONE!!!!
The 2nd big lots commercial was fine for the time actually kind of like a ad you see on Cartoon Network in 1996
That Chevrolet ad I thought was some sort of insurance commercial
The Oldsmobile service commercial just reminded me of "Fargo."
God damn I'm getting stupid with this green leaf and need help from Adcock or an Oldsmobile dealer in Calhoun
I thought the lady in the kitchen was going to talk about medicine or life insurance...she was selling cars & trucks...W-T-F. The smoking lady in the last ad definitely wanted some Green Leaf lmao.
Well, that first ad was about a minute of my life that I can't get back. 😳😳😳😠😡🤬
Every smallish town has cringey commercials! I’m from a town in South Carolina and Mattress Max will save you moneeeeeeyyyyyyyyy 💵 💵
:30 dude backing the car out with his head completely out the window is a champion 🤣🤣
i live in memphis and i've memorized so many numbers of law firms and cleaning services because of local commercials
1:43 "Sarah, would you STOP with the GD piano practice?!"
I have that exact butter dish! 🙀
Straight outta UHF
I never expected to see Chattanooga in this!
I actually unironically like all of these.
Lol the greenleaf lady looks like meredith from the office and her character is perfect for that ad.
Mr Service: can fly
Also Mr Service: rides a cow
I'm in southwest Missouri and the very first commercial is very similar in style to car dealership commercials we had.
Were they all like that in the U.S.A.? lol
All these ain’t got nothing on a local furniture store to me. Look up Norton’s furniture. Lol
"Behind the Krystal". Lmfao
Most of these aren't even that bad, except the first one.
Annnnd look what happened to Oldsmobile. Thanks a lot, Mr Service.
It was because of all the dead hookers Norm put in the trunks.
"Gettin' Stupid". Nooo kiddin'.
The first one really gave me big bill hells vibes
0:23 not the cube transition lol
Missed “Mikes Golf Shop, where we buy golf. That’s right. Come on down here”
BUT I WANTED TO KNOW WHAT "GETTIN' STUPID" WAS
She makes it sound like she only cared about her husband because he payed the bills
I am actually watching commercials as entertainment..........
I live a few exits north of where Mr. Service used to be. Used to. It looks like it's a Popeyes now
Kunkelman Cheverolet! RCR really nailed the local car lot commercial
1:41 I thought she was gonna take something relevant out of the fridge
Can you fix my Geo Storm this Saturday? Thanks
Special factory shipment for, SERVICE OLDSMOBILE!
No Paul from the diamond center?
tennessee why did you guys get quite a few ads from georgia though
I'm Gettin' Stupid Today!!!
Its easy to see where Tim and Eric got their inspiration from.
I like the commercials, and most of all the prices, a coffee maker for $9,99...
2:07 best one... Stop it get some help lol
1:35 that is the cheapest, ugliest, outdated kitchen ever......even for the 80's
Hey where is my night owl theatre,,?

Wonder how many takes it took for him to say "gettin' stupid" without snickering. 2:33
Chevrolet lady's fridge is unrealistic. Where are the magnets!?
She said her husband was laid off. They probably can’t afford magnets! 🤣🤣
holy shit is that frank welker 1:02
I feel personally attacked with most of these being in Chattanooga and north Georgia...
I live an hour and a half away from the dealer in the first one.
activetruman is it still open
Surprisingly, yes!
Where did I park my car? Oh no...
So depressing...
The production values...
The unenthusiastic acting...
Why did they even bother?
First guy left teeth at home
Steve Johnson from Zumbrota Ford should be on here!
Some aren't. Just low budget.
How long has it been since Big Lots was a "local" company?
I remember when I was a kid the discount place was called Mc Frugals but it got bought out by big lots in the early 00s if I remember
Too bad there were no Cal Worthington. commercials. He was always trying to give away the whole lot on every ad.
▪️
Are big lots still around?? I moved to Alaska one decade ago. I don't think I've seen em up here at all since I left the lower 48.
