Price for these have SIGNIFICANTLY increased since the pandemic, no longer would recommend them unless you can still find them for cheap lmao and they are being discontinued as well.
The detolf is also being discontinued by the end of 2023 as well

@@thunderanime27 Billy Bookcases with Hogbo doors. Not the most cost effective, but it's got plenty of space for more if you're collecting things other than figures, like manga etc.

That's absolutely crazy. I bought myself a new Detolf around 3 weeks ago, and I literally have the exact same issue: the door won't close all the way. This also isn't my first Detolf, so I was wondering what the deal was. Glad to see that I wasn't the only one with this issue. Definitely confirms that it's a manufacturing error.

Had the same problem . To fix the door loosen too screws . Takes the tension off it allowing to close somewhat better .

For extra shelves, you can buy the besta glass shelves (22x14 in) for $5 each, and cut it down to size of detolf shelves (15x11.5 in), would only need a straight edge and a glass cutter tool.
I live about an hour, 15 minutes away from an IKEA and they wanted $120 to ship me a Detolf... Nah fam, I'll come to you lol

Odd... I live 15 min away from an IKEA as well. I'm willing to pick up but it's always out of stock there (at least so says the webpage). But I just ordered 4 because I really can't wait anymore, I have figures EVERYWHERE, including on top of my mini fridge....
And the shipping for four is only 50 bucks.

Agreed detolfs are the best. Not removing the stickers and cleaning the glass. That's the worst part of building them. Also, excellent video! Thanks for taking the time to make it.

Got mine a little while ago! Love it. The stickers stuck to the glass are quite stubborn, though... I also got a single Eket to hold my scale Musashi figure and installed an LED!
I got into figures when the pandemic hit (retail therapy punched me square in the face), and I don't think I was the only one cuz the detolfs were sold out for weeks! I had to subscribe to an online Ikea notification tool to know when these were back in stock and I could buy one for pickup (which was a 6am notification). Got it and it looks amazing, but man getting one was a pain. Hopefully it's easier for everyone else!

Unfortunately, I’m one of those who don’t live near an ikea and shipping costs are over $100. What would be a good alternative for a display case? I’ve seen some curio display cases off of Amazon for nearly $200. Any suggestions?
The comment right below you (for me) says that you should look for one that's used, because they are also used in stores and are quite common.
Fb marketplace curio cabinets. Sometime you can get them locally for 50 bucks or free. The catch is you usually need a truck or larger vehicle to put it in since they are already put together.

i actually HAVE the lelouch figure hes talking about so i just turned to it when he mentioned about the dandruff and dusted it out of habit x'DD
So the reason that the door does not close is that one or more of the bolts is tighter then the others. This is causing the frame to twist and preventing you from closing the door. A easy way to fix this is to try tightening or loosening the bolts on the top. You should do this one bolt at a time and see how the case responds. You should see the frame twist and this should cause the gap to get bigger or smaller. Keep adjusting until you get the door even on the top and bottom. Depending on how bad the twist is, you might have to readjust the bottom bolts as well.

Bro what a coincidence seeing you assemble that detolf in the beginning of the video. I literally just bought that one yesterday and got frustrated trying to fit the side glass panels into the grooves so I stopped assembling til I can find videos on how to do it properly.
You might be putting the plastic corners on wrong, there's a specific orientation to them
I had the same problem with my second detolf. What I did was I used washers to bridge the gap for the top magnet. It works well because its magnetic

These are great for hamster cages too. Flip it on its side and blamo you have a dope setup. By the way! These things cost $80 in my neck of the woods.
They cost 80 for me too haha, but for people in the US they cost like 60 so figured might just use their pricing.
It's $156 (USD) here in my country, kinda not worth. I just use crappy bookshelves to display my figs and clean em once a month.
I had the inverse problem of the one you encountered, mine wouldn't close while the bottom stopper was there.
i just use a book case it works fine for me and because i also collect manga so i like book shelfs

You can buy some nice acrylic display case from taobao also, I got some 35cmx35cmx40cm ones for about 18 dollars each. This is the best case for your figures, they can completely block dust from your figures. And they are as transparent as glass ones. Their shipping cost is not cheap due to the pandemic right now. May be around 20 dollars for a single one or cheaper if you ships more. But I think they are well worth the money if you put some over 200 dollars figure in them.

I had trouble with my first detolf, I had to hammer the little piece because it wouldn't fit to get the door closed... Now I'm the proud owner of 2 and 2 more to get build... Figures is such a expensive and takes a lot of place... But love it since so long.... I use the bottom shelf for art book and display figures I want to sell before taking pics and
boxing them back.

Careful remember they are glass and books get pretty dense compared to pvc I wouldn’t recommend more then 15 mangas of you stack them on their sides
Standing normally is probably fine if you don’t put anything in front of them

OH!!! So THAT'S how my mom found that display case for my birthday XD. It's completely full for those wondering. Displayed as many as I coild, with attempts at theming each shelf. I think it came out really nice. Even though one whole cabinet shelf is occupied by one Cthulu Idol-chan figure because the base os SO HUGE! XD. Also my 1/4 bunny figures that are standing up straight (besides Taiga, obviously) don't fit between the shelves :P
I am thinking about buying this but from what I’ve read somewhere it’s not so easy to put it together by yourself. That 2 people are recommended. Also that the glass can easily break when putting it together..Not sure how that’s possible but I’ve seen photos of that happening to someone. xD I wish you would have shown the process of putting it together a bit more but it’s manageable. The next thing I am worried about is that I am still not living alone but will move out at some point. Is disassembling it a problem? If it would be better to just wait until I move to buy this so I don’t have to put it together twice.
Id say wait, its totally doable to build it by yourself. It is easier with two people but its manageable.
I've seen mixed reviews with the Ikea detolf. 😅
If I do get one for my collection, I'll probably have it custom made with different or adjustable heights for the shelves 😆

I had the same problem with that gap with my first detolf. My solution was to put a small magnet in between. 👍

this might be a foot placer problem where its unbalance check the feet @kenken put weight on one corner to see if it rebalance it self
i had this problem and i checked the feet and it was just that so all i did was put carboard under one of the feet to find where it needed balance
PSA as of Oct. 2020 Ikea has discontinued the black brown Detolf display case. You can still get it in white (which isn't as nice but is still $50)

Why is nearly no one using dustproof displaycases? The reason you buy display case in first place is that you dont want them to be dusted/damaged ingenerall. Especially if you have complex figures that have pretty huge surfaces.
You can easily DIY them to become dustproof

but i use the wooden shelf with glass for my display
first is they are strong material, easier for me to customize and cheaper in my hometown. They can handle heavier thing like my book or some big figure i got
Second if something wrong happen like i fall in. They won't gonna break.
Beside they are really easy for me to put the led inside to light up my collection. With the warm of the wood colour is make my collection look like they are in GSC studio :)) make a really good feeling when i look at
Really good video dude! I display my figures in ikea Billy book cabinets (i've been collecting anime forever but just got into figures last year and decided to use the same cabinets for now) The detolf looks super sweet though! I just need more room lol
I own three of these, but I connected them together with an extra 40cm high box under them, so the lowest part of the case is still high enough to show the figure nicely.

I have one detolf, and shelves for all my other figures. The only reason being is that the idea of moving detolf's scare the absolute SHIT out of me. When I moved with my one, I had to transport it in a different vehicle. Tempered glass sucks LOL but they are the absolute best way to display figures
Also most of the LED light stripes that everyone uses I don't like. They're really dim and usually if you set them to white the light is a pretty cool kelvin. I want daylight color temperature. I also want a higher lumens level. I need some bright LEDs
Petco sometime have the $1 per gallon fish tank deal. So I guess it can be affordable to use fish tanks as display cases.

Assembled my first detolf..... All I can say is that I wasted 1 1/2 hrs of both mine and my brother's life trying to insert both side glass panels. Shit would either not fit properly or not fit into the plastic insert-thingy-sticks.
I can't imagine the headache of dissembling these things once people need to move
I love the look and all but I heard cases where the tenper glass shater at random so it's a no go in my opinion
Most cases ive heard that from is because of how they overtightened the screws which causes it to bend, i barely screwed in mine tight, had the detolfs for 8 years no problems.
I had the same problem with my detolf and had the exact same solution
I have a detolf and nothing has happened to it (so far) but I've heard that sometimes they explode. Because of the weight of the wooden tops and the weak metal frame. Considering the fact the detolf is supported by the glass frame.

I build a lot of 1/4 scale figures that range anywhere from 14” to 22”. Are the shelves adjustable or are all the shelves set. I have IKEA near me.
IKEA typically will not ship anything made of glass, at least the stores in my area. I tried to order a lamp that had a glass shade, and it wasn't up for shipping, but a lamp with a fabric shade was okay.

For some reason I always thought the ikea detolfs didn't have doors on them, but I didn't really have room for any anyway. Really excited to get a couple now that I just bought a house. :) I was a little nervous about putting them together but it doesn't seem too bad from the video.

She was getting a figure by aquamarine, but it got cancelled since the company went bankrupt. I like nobu, definitely needs to get a dope figure
Oh lord the fingerprints all over your glass on the door as you fix it. Fixed it with my dad and I had to ask my mom and sister to assist when fitting in all the glass panels. My 1st delivery, the glass cracked once deliveryman placed it on the floor... so thankfully they redelivered it

Do you have any male figures in your collection? I have 77 figures and only 7 are female. I mainly collect posable figures like PLay arts Kai, Sh figarts but I did pick up a lot of statue figures in Japan during my last trip.
Just 1, they don't make a lot for characters i like, especially GOOD ones lol
Had to drive 2 hours to a ikea to get my 10 cabinets! They will grape you on shipping. The shipping for 4 was about the price of 3 hahaha so we bit the bullet and drove there
