    Difficulty I have with my grey microlocs is that the grey-white edges in the front seem to not want to cooperate with the rest of my hairdo. They are unruly, tough, and have a pattern of their own; but at the same time they are the most delicate hairs.

    I have mixed grey waist length sisterlocs that I've been growing for 16 yrs. I enjoy the versatility of having longer locs however, retightening them takes me about (3) 4-5 hr days every 6 weeks.

    • @marciajohnson1825
      @marciajohnson1825 5 лет назад +2

      Omg so am I understanding you correctly that you retighten your SLs yourself? And it takes you 3 sessions, each lasting 4-5 hours each??? Wow that's dedication right there! I must say that I'm so looking forward to my own SLs growing to those kind of lengths (currently they are approaching bra strap length). But I think I will leave the strain on my loctician. My right shoulder and neck would protest very loudly after a few minutes into the first session 🙈

    • @adventurousspirit6628
      @adventurousspirit6628 5 лет назад +1

      @@marciajohnson1825 yes you are correct. It takes much longer to retighten yourself. I paid for years to have mine professionally done because I was working, and I didn't have the time. Now that I'm retired I do. I still feel it's worth spending that time once a month vs combing out and detangling my type 3c 4a hair after each shampoo. Personally I enjoy the freedom of wash and go with my Loc's, and not having to use any type of chemicals which get absorbed into my body.

But my gray is coming back as I expected it to. But I'm embracing it all I don't have any plans on putting a color on my loc's no time soon. Maybe once my loc's or completely locked if than. Because I have a long way to go before I get to that stage lol. I just joined a few day's ago and I LOVE all that you share !!! This is my second set which I stared in on my birthday , may 25th 2010, and they are about mid thigh length. Crown plus about 8 inches almost white; have a few strands of color here and there. Remainder is a variety of light to medium browns with goodies tones. I receive many compliments whenever I expose them, which is very seldom because of a vow I made.

    With Sisterlocs you keep getting them tightened for the rest of the time you wear them.
    But hey, it’s your hair, you could just let them go, but only the ends you had locked would be in the configuration of the sister locs.
    All hair would loc, the job of the loctitian is to guide the form and shape of the loc.

I gave up perms in the late 1990's - transitioning to natural hair. I tried to loc 20 years ago, but my hair was too soft thus locking was impossible. Recently had a stroke and I am looking for less maintaining style.

    Sisterlocs: No they continue to go to their consultant to retighten with what SS calls a patent tool and crochet method for the life of their locs that runs hundreds of dollars for a retwist. How I feel about silver/grey/white locs. I am from a family premature silver locs as early as 12 starting to go silver. My first set of locs I let them all remain silver. I was not happy with the size and loc’d again with the natural black. I don’t like coloring my locs often for their health but I am just not ready for the full silver locs yet. I see other sets like in video and have instant jealousy - I will get there eventually.
    Can cowrie shells cause loc damage? Yes, if one selects to push the shell up to a thicker area of the loc. However, there are several techniques to using the shells safely. The history them is wide from spiritual, femininity to currency. They used to be used as currency and then degraded for their meaning of prosperity among the list of other significance. I love them and I do wear them as well as other loc jewels and keep them on the end or on parts I can easily place and remove them.

    Hi I have SLs (nearly 5 years, and not ready to embrace my greys so still dye them) and no they're not as weak and vulnerable as their size portrays. They are as strong as the strength of your hair already is; so if your hair is weak, or they are poorly maintained then they may be prone to breakage. But isn't that the truth for whatever style or method we use to wear our hair in? It may give you a better insight if you look at a Sisterlocks wearer like P R Charles, who also has a RUclips channel. This lovely sister has been growing and creatively styling her SLs for many years and they are approx hip length. They are absolutely stunning as you will see.

    Please don't call it dreadlocks. The word dread mean gruesome, disgusting, horrible. There isn't nothing dread about the locs, it's part of your antennas.

    No offense to Woopie Goldberg but her locks look as if something is wrapped around them also. We have watched her locks grow over the years so apparently they are real. I'd like to know the process though because my locs are very frizzy
