@@squeakcothis! If you've been a makeup consumer for long enough, you undoubtedly own loads of discontinued products, and it's great to be able to get inspiration for products you already own instead of new stuff all the time.

I feel the same way! So many amazing releases are limited so that would be a huge waste of product if they just decluttered all discontinued stuff.

I get the language thing. I am German and I have no problem if random people on the internet mispronounce words. You cannot speak every single language in this planet fluently and I am pretty sure my English pronounciation ain't perfect either. What I really hate though is when people in real life who are not native German speakers correct my German. Like, dude believe me, it's pronounced "por-shé". The "e" in Porsche is not silent.

I'm from California. I take phone orders for work. I have spoken to German and swedish people who were easier to understand than people from the south and Midwest US. If I get the jist of what is being said, that's the important part. 😊

Any time I hear someone making fun of the way a non-native speaker pronounces something or misuses a word, I remind them that the person they are talking about is literally bilingual (and in some cases multilingual). That is something to be quite proud of and shouldn’t be criticized.
About the money thing…when it annoys me is when an influencer turns their nose up at things now that they’ve reached a certain point. Like NOW colourpop is trash and drugstore is trash because you can afford all luxury brands now. Unless it’s trendy on tik tok THEN you can lower yourself back down lol. That’s when it annoys me.

I have seen content creators use older products and I actually sought out discontinued items through eBay, Mercari, Poshmark, etc. I’ve been super happy to discover things that are untouched and in their original boxes.
I do the same thing. I'll even buy makeup powder products lightly used. If it saves me money and I can find something I can't get any longer why not!?!

I have several discontinued products & appreciate seeing influencers incorporating them into fresh looks along with new products. Makeup is expensive & seeing beauty gurus being mindful of that is something I respect
I actually love when a brand revealed their product and my RUclips notifications go wild😂 as soon as I have time I will watch my favourite creator's videos first and when I had enough I will watch the others over the next days. No one is holding me at gunpoint to watch everything at once.
I can think of a few influencers who do not appropriately disclose their affiliate links or say they will say nothing about it
I agree about sponsorships, I so happy for the creator. I want to see people succeed and make money, I want to see content and that costs.

You both look beautiful! Thank you for responding to my question. It was interesting to hear your points on discontinued makeup. I personally think it’s terrible that new is what brings in the views. Not everybody that watches beauty RUclips can afford to buy all the palettes. I wish there was more support for using what you love, discontinued or not. I personally don’t get angry with beauty influencers but I know there are people that do.
I hate when influencers use filters and review products and even zoom in or their lighting is so bright that everything is blurred anyway. Like, what is the point? I cannot see what you're trying to show me. I really appreciate that Mallory Brooke and Angie from Hot and Flashy shows close ups of foundations in daylight, indirect daylight, etc.
It is so sad that female oriented spaces are observed under so much more scrutiny and women are deemed as greedy if they are accepting sponsorships on videos to be able to operate their channels! It is totally okay for every video to be sponsored, as long as creators are open and honest about them. The main concern with sponsorships is if content creators are dishonest about a product's performance because they are being paid, but that concern exists with any sponsorship, so beauty should not be treated different than other industries. Making content is hard work, and content creators deserve to be paid for it!
I don’t mind sponsorships of a non beauty related product like the jewelry. I don’t necessarily mind wen it’s a makeup product that is sponsored but I am less likely to watch and if I do I am skeptical. Sponsorship kind of implies that you will be kind to the product.
I wish I could see the makeup results in natural daylight. I don’t walk around with a ring light in front of me. Most of the makeup looks good with good lighting and then….I buy it…and it looks waaaaay different in real life…that’ s a bummer.

Indie brands get themselves get into trouble giving out SO much PR to influencers and then have NO stock to sell yet expect us to pay full whack as a pre order and then 🦗🦗🦗sometimes for months ( an Australian indie brand springs to mind here) …years even. I’m not exaggerating about years. I have a friend who has waited 2 years for an order from an Indie brand (that still exists) which she placed as a pre order and despite frequent emails back and forth neither money has been returned or not even an offer of alternative product. This is bad business. They do not deserve to be in business imho.

I think people sometimes want creators to show too much of themselves. I want people to provide good content and protect themselves and their privacy as much as they need to. I am concerned about creators being turned into influencers and marketers.

Over the past couple of years I have become more and more aware of how mean and negative people are, especially online. I mean I'm hardly naive about social media, I lived through Gamergate as a woman in the games industry, but it really seems like everything is getting worse. Individual people can be SO MEAN and I just don't understand WHY? Why would you go out of your way to be unkind to people who are just living their own lives. It makes me sad how many people write it off as being "the way things are" but there's no NEED for it to be like that.
It is so extraordinarily ridiculous and entitled to expect creators to work their butts off to provide you with information to free. WTF is wrong with people!?
I didn’t have enough space for my whole comment about language. It is the people being rude or admitting having no idea and not willing to even hear it to try. I think being respectful to people and their language to take a second to try matters and that it is rude to say “I don’t speak it, I don’t care, why can’t it be in English?”

The only thing that ever bugs me is having to give a name to every damn look - clean girl, strawberry girl, latte makeup. And they come and go so fast, it’s impossible to keep up. Edit to say I’m in marketing so I understand why it’s done - it gives it an easily found hashtag so more people can find it - but I still hate it. Lol😂 I love to hear other languages and am never offended at pronunciations. If anything I find it cute and amusing. And honestly I have had people pronounce words in their language for me to learn and still been, “yeah no, I still don’t know how to say it.” 😂😂😂 I try really hard though!
I get annoyed when people are inconsistent with posting lmao but it's totally bc i want to see their videos bc i like them. So even though i want the video i don't want someone harming themselves to make them if that makes sense.
I hate (but also love because I think it's hilarious to imagine the behind the scenes) when lifestyle influencers do these super staged camera set ups of them waking up, or getting in or out of their car, or walking around (even walking into the hospital from the parking lot when they have to give birth or go to the ER). Like, can you imagine them having to set up their camera exactly right and potentially do several takes to get the perfect shot? 😂

Oh gawd yes! I watch a lady who always films herself walking down the sidewalk coming towards the camera and walking past it. I always cringe because I know she has to go set up the camera in the correct angle then go walk up to it, then edit it all out.
I am clearly commenting as I watch, you just talked about youtubers asking for money… there is one woman I subscribe to, and I really like her, but she asks for donations via patreon and all that, saying things like, so I can retire one day…. It makes me so angry… I am watching the video and I would also like to retire one day….. does that make sense?? It somehow bothers me, it probably shouldn’t but it does… I have also noticed some youtubers are more critical on products that they actually spent their own money on, which is why I prefer those videos…. The phrase “helps support my channel” that is another one that gets me, especially when the person is living so well, it is not a jealousy thing so much as it feel to me, like a cry for help, when I need more help than they do… Lord I know this is not coming across well…. The written word and interpretation, it is soooo difficult
I don't understand why so many people have issues with sponsorships. Do they not want to see their favorite content creators make a living? We all have bills to pay.. If they're honest about it in their videos, be grateful that they're telling you in advance that it's a sponsored video. Whether or not you want to buy the products/services from that sponsor is completely your decision as a consumer. No one is forcing you to buy anything.

I love when influencers use discontinued or old products and compare them to new products. I love being able to decide if I can dupe an old fave/discontinued product with a new product or if I don't need to buy a new product because the old fave/discontinued product will work just fine. It also keeps me from using fomo to get limited edition or holiday products. If I can get a holiday product that is identical to an older product, I will just save my money.
Before I even finish watching this, I really need to say that I love the talking and updates at the beginning of your (and others) videos!! Sort of personalizes the content. It’s very doubtful that I’ll ever meet you, but it’s nice to get to know a bit of the real you. Truly!

I think the sneaking Amazon links might possibly be not disclosing that the link is to the creators "shop front" and they are getting paid for it? My pet peeve is definitely when something feels like a sponsorship but it isn't disclosed. Sometimes you can just hear the difference between how somebody normally talks about products and how all of a sudden the corporate buzz-words come out 🤔 Suspicious! Or, like you said, one creator discloses and one doesn't but the talking points are the same.
I dislike “I’m a {insert whatever} girly”. It makes my eyes roll back in my head. Perhaps it’s because I’m a full grown adult woman. 😂

The designer brands comment...if the influencer goes from drugstore and high end to luxury and that doesn't interest me, I just don't watch anymore. I feel like what their tax bracket is is not for me to know. Just like if someone asks how much I make because I'm driving a luxury vehicle, it's none of their business. Maybe I saved up for years so that I could buy myself this vehicle or maybe it was left to me in a will. A YTer is just like any other job in the fact that you do not have to share your paycheck/bank account info with the world. I could careless what you make. The reason I follow you is because I like what you offer as far as content.
It’s so interesting to be how many opinions people have on how creators run their business because that’s what it is. A business. You don’t go to your dentist or vet, etc and tell them how to run theirs.

Physical filters are very real, and have been used by pro photographers since the advent of...photogtaphy 😂. Only certain cameras are equipped for them anymore but yeah, for sure a thing (and generally more subtle/undetectable than their digital counterparts). Just fyi 😊

I don't like when influencers don't disclose the cosmetic procedures they've had done. I have zero problem with what people choose to do with their faces, but when they're reviewing a product that's designed to enhance a feature that's been cosmetically modified, it's incredibly misleading. Thereby making it almost impossible for viewers to discern whether the product yielded a certain result or the cosmetic procedure.

You can tell you both are happy, well-adjusted people. You have the emotionally mature attitudes of comprehending reality and respecting others for having varying views and lives. Only unhappy people spend their time nitpicking and finding things others do which they "hate" That stems from their own low self-worth and personal unhappiness, not what an influencer or any other stranger on social media is doing. Unfortunately that is the case with many commenters on every platform as the internet has become their place to lash out.

Yes but then they should not be mentioned at your work (your beauty channel) at all, if you talk about them there, you brought them to work and should label them as a business expense. I mean it's still your money, just from another pool.

I find it very troublesome that people can be so mean spirited. Nothing that was discussed here is something that bothers me. I realize that different people have different opinions - that’s human nature. But being mean and insulting is another thing.
I love this video!! I really enjoyed seeing what people's opinions are as well. I also realize I am not a content creator so I try not to put more into it as I love make up, I want to connect with other people who have the same love. In my everyday life, no one is into it like myself. So I love to watch and engage. I just don't get emotionally invested. ❤ Have a great day.
Only time sponsorships annoy me is when there is one sponsor for a bunch of creators a week - they should spread it out or something.
I did not really agree with more than a couple of those. I don't care if it is discontinued, if you get sponsorship, great! You can do videos and make your coin and stay online. Love the Video and you brought up an interesting point about influencers not wanting to show imperfections. As a viewer it is sometimes overwhelming how everyone seemingly has their lives together and everything perfected. Did not think about the scrutiny you are under! What is wrong with people who leave rude remarks? I am 66, and I love watching your channel and Rachel’s. I love makeup, but I was taught to not say anything at all unless you can say something nice. That rule should apply to the internet as well. I guess people think they are anonymous and that that gives them the right to trash hard working creators. Both of you do a terrific job, and I enjoy watching the videos.
this prompted me to search for abh modern reinassance and there's actually only recent videos, like from 4 months ago when the mini came out or people revisiting the old palette, (and jaclyn never even reviewd it) but those people are not small creators and they don't have crazy views so I don't think it's the search engine itself, but the fact that people no longer care (or even know) about modern reinassance.

Love your editing. A pet peeve of mine are youtubers who can’t talk for one minute straight without blending in memes/clips (from movies, shows etc.) and sometimes the clips are so long that I forget what the person just said. I personally don’t mind a few short ones in one video but some people just overdo it a little for my liking.

Most of the assumptions revolve around honesty and trustworthiness. That's also the reason why I unfollow. I guess it's not easy to be authentic when you're afraid of losing money and shitstorms. And that's exactly why I appreciate the work of my favorite creators on RUclips so much. I will always be a fan of well-made and authentic makeup videos! 💖💖💖
400% love you subtly referring to the way people treat the names of ikea furniture as a meme… and yet they come into your house and give you grief for pronouncing something in a third language somewhat incorrectly… words in one languages are not more made up or less real than any other 🙃 tbh I love the way you speak english!!!

I can’t believe people complain about stuff like discontinued products, the accent, not showing the house (?) or the private life, watching many influencers reviewing the same brand at the same time! Really? So do they want the influencers to call each other and make schedules? I understand the sponsorship thing but come one 🙄 and also the filter thing. For the rest of the video, people need to get a life.
