What I Wanted AC Syndicate to Look Like

- AC Syndicate is a game that came so close to glory in a very different way from Unity. Syndicate is very polished and functional, and its shortcomings come from the restriction in gameplay and in the misunderstanding of the assassin fantasy. I have always disagreed with the tone ubisoft quebec uses for Assassin's creed, and it's sad to know we were so close to a gritty and down-to-earth game called AC Victory. The industrial revolution is a very dark period of history, and I would have liked a game that matched that in tone and aesthetic. I use George's outfit in this video because it immediately sells the victorian assassin much more than having Jacob run around with a top hat all the time. I also used a reshade to make everything look much more realistic. Thanks to the game's incredible mission design and these two mods, I get a gameplay experience of the Ac London that I actually would have wanted. I hope you find the video as immersive as I did, and you can see how just changing the outfit, the way one plays, and adding a good reshade can save the assassin fantasy in the game. Of course, nothing we can do about cutscenes and dialogue, but this video is a good concept of the type of game I would have wanted.
Assassin's Creed Syndicate is an action-adventure video game developed by Ubisoft Quebec and published by Ubisoft. It was released on October 23, 2015, for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and on November 19, 2015, for Microsoft Windows.

Victorian London is without doubt the darkest and most depressing setting ever seen in an assassin’s creed game, yet they chose to pair it with one of the most upbeat and light hearted stories... what a missed opportunity.
Its so weird
They turned it into a parody.
@@65firered let's not split hairs here. It is no more full of jokes then AC brotherhood, and it is darker then most games when it is dark.
So it isn't a a parody at all. But it is to light hearted for what it should be regardless.
@@chrismoore5333 Jacob's entire character is a joke and the game is the lightest in tone in the entire franchise, including Odyssey. I get you are running defense for Ubi$oft, but this ain't it. Unlike Brotherhood it doesn't take the story or setting seriously and acts as a parody of the time period.
@65firered nope. I hate ubisoft. But your simply not telling the truth. The asylum level, the roth levels, the pearl levels... Jacob isn't joking all the time, and the plots were serious. The game isn't any darker or more light then brotherhood, and both are slightly less full of jokes then odyssey. Also while odyssey shares the development team of syndicate, the creative team, who are responsible for tone, story, and characters, are the same as brotherhood, and infact the lead writer worked on every game up to syndicate, excluding black flag. He even kead brotherhood, which is why they are so similar. The french king of brotherhood, that guy who kisses his sword all the time, and calls it his wife... the game is no different then syndicate, but nostalgia blinds many to the reality. I agree that syndicate was disappointed compared to the leaked images. But please stop being disingenuous. Jacob isn't a joke and the story isn't a parody. Some fans will swear that the ezio games were all super dark and serious. That isn't even nearly true. They were the same as syndicate but for their time. I play all the games very often. Sorry but I'm tired of false information about this game.
A Dark AC game is what we needed here
don't worry, hexe is gonna be more darker
@@Bent_Dent your imagine story is on rogue.
an actual assasin game again is what we need
@@Bent_Dent jacob sides with templars and assassin's depending on his own view of them. So he already knows that templars aren't always bad, and assassin's aren't always good. That said, we were robbed of the full potential for jacob as a protagonist, and the game as a story.
@Gaming WRLD also fun fact. Shay and jacob are identical, have similar outfits, and their personality, and while shay is based on the god "Lugh." Jacob is based on the "the horned god." Both gods are paird in mythology with the goddess "morrigan" who the characters Hope and Evie both represent.
If Syndicate ever gets remastered this is the first outfit they need to give Jacob.
Evie was given the Isu outfit because she’s always taken an interest in the Isu and their artifacts
Jacob should’ve been given this outfit as a Easter egg, since these robes were supposed to be for the original main Assassin.
jacob looks great in this outfit
The original protagonist from victory is Jacob. Jacob was always the main character, only he would get older in the story originally. If you want to know what he would have been like, think late game/after game Jacob, or 1888 Jacob. So when he is more careful and more reserved. As for evie, here's a fun fact. She was the games main villain. They eventually replaced her role in the story with Maxwell Roth, and even gave him some of her previous traits, including a mask, scared face, and grey hair. There's some images online aswell, if your interested. (But yes, I felt fed up when I finished the secrets of london collection, and got an outfit for a character I won't play as. Jacob should've gotten the victory outfit for sure.)
Would be fitting for him as years later he becomes fully committed to the creed and rebuilds the london brotherhood as a master assassin
I'd kinda rather have the original main protagonist they were gonna go with
if there is a remaster for syndicate , we need both jacob and evie wear the hood without sneak
Imagine a dark setting like this, paired with Jacob's humor and levity. It would have been classically British to keep joking and pushing through while the world is dark and terrible.
A HUGE missed opportunity.
On a separate note, this makes me want to play Syndicate again but I know I'll be disappointed lol
Honestly... i just play it because i like the world setting. I go through taking all the templar holds and dont play a single story mission.
@@goodbutbetter i play syndicate the same way. the game really is at its best when you dont give the characters a chance to read through the atrocious script. bc the tone is too light-hearted in the wake of pretty grim subject matter due to the setting, it makes just raw gameplay more respectful and congruent to what the game could have been. the bleakness of it all. i deff think ubi quebec should have taken a black flag approach to writing (even though they didnt make ac4) bc the golden age of pirates and the downfall of Nassau was a very tragic thing but the humor in tht game was an extension of what the characters were fighting for--the comraderie and fellowship of a free society. with syndicate its just bullshit. zero subtlety
This game has such potential to be one of the greats. They teased George’s outfit and everyone LOVED IT, even in the concept family it looked AMAZING! It was a darker setting because of it being one of the darkest times in history. Instead they make it an upbeat game where everything’s happy and the music (I FIRMLY BELIEVE music if half of what the product is) I loved the music but it still didn’t fit like it could’ve. Oh top of that there’s no new game option so I can’t repay even if I wanted to AND it’s still bugged on ps5. Seeing this mod makes me want a pc to play what this game actually should’ve been. Hopefully the Witch teased AC( really excited about that one because I love occult stuff!) has the dark tone we’re all looking for.
What are the mods used?
I think it lacks horror in the story and atmosphere
The moving crane-bits were absolutely beautiful. This video is so so so well-crafted. Must have taken ages to make, eh? Loved the video
Sooo many
@@AltairStealth i feel your pain man
The worst part about the stealth system is the horrible crouched assassinations

agree 😂
What embarrassing is that it’s not even the worst. Have you seen what it looks like in origins? Bayek just *boops* them in the back and they fall over in agony.
@@DoubleU159 yeah part of the reason I've never played the RPG ones
@@DoubleU159yeah same in Valhalla. Eivor just sort of stabs the enemies in the back of the knee and they decide to not live anymore
Congratulations dude, its a big game, amazing atmosphera and gameplay. One of my favorites ac.
This game had every opportunity to be the Arkham knight of ac games but Ubisoft ruined that chance
It could have been great
Fax. I did enjoy the Jack the Ripper dlc tho
@@icetea3595 same really good story
i thought everyone hated arkham knight
personally its a great but very flawed game
@@awashnut1481 Arkham knight is perfect the down side is to much use of the Batmobile
Syndicate’s gameplay is almost perfect given the technology when it came out. I think the dev make the right choice to remove some parkour animations from unity and remove the bugs.
The Victorian London setting looks beautiful and atmospheric, but it doesn’t always support parkour with the buildings sometimes so far apart. So the grappling hook is very useful even if it take away the climbing.
I also feel that story and characters are not ‘deep’ enough.
It is still one’s of the good AC game though, and I enjoy playing syndicate and still playing it from time to time
My favorite are brotherhood, follow by black flag and revelation in a tie.
None of them are perfect either, but I chose brotherhood as my favorite because it just right for AC game and I never bore playing the entire game and finished all the side missions.
Syndicate was the most fun at night during Dickens missions. The tone was just eerie. I would have love the game if it was more dark in tone with creepy detective missions
Yeah loved thise
Now let’s see Paul Allen’s stealth run
Nice, very nice
Keep up the fire content, can’t wait for mirage so that I can see how you plqy( like a badass) and adopt that some of that style as well
That's the plan!
Absolutely beautiful, you named all of the things which would make this game even better
My beloved Syndicate 😅
A game that could but didnt
Victorian London was sich a missed opportunity. They could’ve made a darker story, to better match the setting. Instead it’s of the lightest stories of the franchise. Great video though, with some amazing gameplay as always
I totally agree!
Wish it was more darker like the Jack the ripper dlc setting
Imagine if a competent publisher had the rights to AC. Ubisofts greed and bad management was the reason many of their games had so much unused potential. Imagine if the original creator was not fired and Ubisoft gave him the time he needed...
It would have been great
I mean if that was the case, then the franchise would have ended over a decade ago.
@@hawken796 So what? That would have been better than the crappy games we got instead.
The aesthetic and the atmosphere is awesome, gives me goosebumps fr
Same
This might be weird to hear, but I’ve played almost every AC game (including Altair‘s Chronicles) and Syndicate is actually my all time favourite
Wow! Thats a first
@@AltairStealth I’m well aware of all the issues, but Syndicate still has everything I want in an AC game + it was the AC game which I had the most enjoyment from
I also played every ac game, before the RPG ones. Those are nah👎. Haha. Anyway, Syndicate is also my favorite. 🤝 It's also the hardest for me.
Syndicate is one of my favourites, along with AC3. I do love brotherhood and black flag aswell, but a bit less I think. Jacob is also one of my 3 favourite protagonists along with Edward and Aveline. AC3 and AC syndicate are like their protagonists Jacob and Connor. Surprisingly popular in the fanbase, but not as popular among content creators. Just one of those things.
YESS THANK YOU
You know you're actually right about the how the whole outfit and reshade thing can give the feeling of Assassin Fantasy. Even just outfit, to be honest. I played Valhalla all the way through with Altair's outfit and it actually felt not as bad. Felt like Altair was on one of his expeditions which brought him to Scandinavia in the midst of Vikings.
Of course, as you said, nothing to do about cutscenes, but in gameplay it still gives a great vibe.
Aesthetic in AC is actually very important
I'm role-playing the entire series, when possible, with the Altair outfit...and it feels really good, you should try it.
Syndicate was my first game on ps4 in 2016 and i fall in love in the first moment. Now i stay play it on PC going to 100%
It should have definitely had a weather/time of day option, the atmosphere is real at night in the rain
I agree
Also, maybe it's just me but I feel like the night cycle was shorter. I had time to do like one highjack event before it would be morning again
@@OpheliaFantasy you are absolutely right, I think its about 15 minutes of day to a 5 minutes of night
OH man the atmosphere is DELICIOUS! Also you do nice work with the parkour, my character always look goofy if i climb diagonally like you do around 1:00 mark
Thank you!’
Gotta say i loved how syndicate looked
It was pretty immersive
Plus Victorian london wasn't all dark
I'll say ac1 had a way darker setting
Unity too
Actually the victorian age was quite good
Indeed, there was something of a missed opportunity with the atmosphere there... Though I do agree with you when you say the game definitely felt like it had polish! That's something I think is insufficiently talked about when fans critic Syndicate :)
Facts
Syndicate with a hood always up? To quote Altair "What Sorcery is this?!?"
PC master race
Ur ac syndicate looks so dark in this video, whereas on my pc it looks vibrant, alive and colorful
Prefer it dark
@@AltairStealth i should've read the title lol
I’ll be damned if I ever don’t click on a video with an Assassin with “STEALTH” printed above him
Hahahah
personally I like when games are shiny, it reminds me of movies when I used to watch as a child, fills me with nostalgia.
underrated game still my favorite ac game.
Well the Jack the Ripper DLC went rather close to this theme but was rather shortlived.
That reshade looks pretty good. Shows how bright the original game was. Games being very bright nowadays is one reason why I hate high graphics in many games nowaday as I noticed higher graphics in games tend to make them look brighter for some reason rather than dark and gritty so I tone them back down to lower graphics. Black Desert is another example of that for me.
Btw, Jacob's creature's rags outfit kind of fits a dark/horror theme btw. (has a Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde vibe to it) I love playing around with it as well as the huntsman outfit.
Will check it out!
Sadly the jack the ripper dlc was a narrative disaster! And it went for femenist points, instead of a good story. Jack the "lad" was the worst. Also, insulting to make the main game that was meant to be about Jacob to begin with, into a light hearted tone, and he shared with evie. But in a dlc that had a story which arguably didn't need evie at all, featured her and didn't allow us to play as jacob, who was the centre of the plot.... that is when we get the darker tone... you can tell some ubisoft devs don't like men.
@@chrismoore5333 The fact that we are confined to Whitechapel and only has a small time to play as Jack the Ripper himself is a major turn off for me (I still love the Deptford section though)
@Adriano Arne-Ritz yh I get you mate. I loved owers mansion. But the character of evie was awful to me, and even worse now that Jacob seemed even better, and he wasn't even playable as a reward for completing the story... Jack the ripper wasn't my favourite, however many advertisements showed him in free roam, which was of course the standard the base game set for having multiple characters. The dlc should've copied the format of the base game. Jacob should have been like lydia, where he has a slightly different map, and gameplay. These sections should've been set before evie arrives. Then evie and Jack should have both been in free roam, and both had side content. The dlc as it is today was obviously bias against men, but ah well. That being said, really evie shouldn't be there at all, and the new player character should've been Jacobs son, Emmett Frye. He is either in England, or somewhere in Europe. Either way he is younger, so probably stronger, closer to Jacob, so more invested, and closer to London, so would be there faster, then evie who was in India, and hadn't seen Jacob for around 15 years. The dlc makes no sense, and shouldn't be considered canon.
Impressive how much a reshade does for the tone of a game. Unfortunately doesn’t fix the flaws of Syndicate’s gameplay and structure despite it being the more “polished” game compared to Unity
Completely agree
Few games looks as beautiful in the dreary rain and darkness as AC Syndicate.
Like when you're running across the rooftops in the rain at night, no other AC game has the same kind of feeling.
People complaining about grappling hook, bruh just don't use it, it helps you but you're not forced to use it all the time
Great video, btw
Idk man, but thanks :)
Fr this game could have been unarguably the best AC. The setting, assassinations in the rain, the graphics, but of course, Ubisoft decided to F up every game that has potential. I have no expectations for Mirage and I won’t be disappointedif it turns out to be a failure.
Sadly it wasn't the creative teams fault by the most part. The developers were new, and they ignored the wishes from their creative team to create a game about Jacob, and instead focused way to much on twisting the game into allowing for evie. And because all the focus was on the wrong thing, the project as a whole, was less then it should have been. Far less.
If AC Syndicate was more like this I would've actually played it
Ac syndicate have some creative level desgins
Loved them
And u masterd at showcasing it(:
Glad you like them!
I really wanted ac syndicate to be tonallu like a more realistic bloodborne. Bleak and dirty.
Same man
The city of London in this game looks absolutely incredible. The population, environment, and setting is just so good, and there really could have been a masterpiece of a game with the setting they chose.
They chose a light-hearted kill the bad guy story, instead of mystery, depression, and a dark, struggling society story.
The gameplay sure is fun, but I found the stealth to be rather difficult than the other games, and most stealth missions are indoors, so it's hard to get creative.
The combat just isn't very smooth, and very simple.
I don't mind Evie and Jacob in general, but they just don't really belong in this kind of game in my opinion.
I can still have a lot of fun with this game though.
I loved the gameplay. You made me want to play this game again
100% agree
You mad creative too Altair. Sometimes you hit forts and it’s like right kill everyone Agent 47. Then you do 2:06 and I’m like this Assassin is playing us like a damn fiddle!!
thank you!! too kind
through the power of mods, we can catch a glimpse
If only we could do more
Syndicate sometimes feels like AC Unity made by MARVEL. Not here though-Brilliant stuff
lol so true actually
i want to personally kiss jesper jyd for the music he made for most of these games
Grappel gun with wirre wich can be munted while are two ends connected to two objects, climbing, stealth kills, smoke bombs, black suit...everything has Batman
I love syndicate. Imo it's an underated ac game. I feel as if it's viewed as unitys shadow
Same dude
I think the London is best made single city in franchise… its just amazing
Its very well done tbf
The only thing in ac syndicate that interested me, was Jack The Ripper. When people got to play that dlc, you felt so powerful, the animations were clean yet felt so brutal. Almost like you could feel yourself stabbing their bones and chest. While the gameplay and story was pretty great playing as Jack the ripper in short instances. The dark tone of that dlc would've mixed great with the industrial setting of ac syndicate, almost a cocktail of just dark story telling, with a opposite force of somewhat amusing characters. To truly see how it wasnt simply templars, but the world as whole with psychopaths and murderers. Which Jack The Ripper DLC did a phenomenal job, in my opinion.
You felt 2 powerful in the dlc. Why do stealth when you can just use fear and one shot everyone or make them run away? Terrible gameplay.
Evie was the worst protagonist in both syndicate and unity, and she got even worse in that dlc. She was boring, useless, and had no real involvement in the story. She was just "Jacob's sister" just like everyone called her in that dlc.
The story made no sense and was disrespectful aswell. Didn't have any ISU or templar plot either.
Bass game syndicate is amazing but flawed. Jacob and lydia are two unique characters, but evie is a shallow jacob clone with none of his character development or personality. She was terrible just like the dlc she's the protagonist in.
I mean think about it. Without Jacob, we would have no gang, no races or fighting rings, no chasing templar targets... But without evie, jacob still went after Starrick and would've still found the shroud. Evie is a pointless character, and the jack the ripper dlc was down right disrespectful and bad.
What reshade is this? I want to make my game look like this! Also, great video btw! You really made this game look 10x better
Realistic reshade on nexus
we should have gotten AC victory. a really dark gothic vibe, the grapple hook should have been limited with more swinging to incorporate into parkour and not completely remove the need for climbing.
i agree
How did you do the jump from 0:10 ? I've been trying to do that on the PS4 but I just couldn't figure out how
The game would’ve felt a lot better if it was more bleaker and dull like this cause it fits the theme and time period way more
Idk if it’s just me but instead of the main story we got it would be cool to hunt down Jack the Ripper make him a Templar of some sort and your other targets would be part of a cult that jacks in and they are also templars.
It would have been way better
@@AltairStealth and then the dlc could either continue the story or could have ended it by jack killing both Evie and Jacob and jack dying due to injuries a short time after killing them
God I wish that was an outfit you could use in the base game. Just imagine it's main feature is that the hood is always up unlike the other outfits
Yup
After somebody tells you that the cloth physics are capped at 30fps, you won't be able to un-see it.
yup
May I request a stealth video of Jacob assassinating Dr. Elliotson within the Asylum? That would be an awsome video, and a good showcase of Syndicate when it is at it's best. Also we don't yet have a Jacob stealth video on the channel, so would be really cool.
this is a jacob stealth video
@Altair Stealth oh of course I know that. I just meant the trailer/demo design. It's ok if your busy with other videos of course!
bro this jus motivated me to download this game again lol thanks
Have fun!!
@@AltairStealth thanksss
Having a more dark AC game would've been cool, I admit it. I haven't had thought of it before but now it makes me want it to exist.
Now keep in mind, this isn't a historically accurate representation of Victorian England, it's the one popular horror literature has made. It's almost a parody. I'd understand why Ubisoft wouldn't have gone for such stereotypical setting specially knowing it didn't fit the plot, at all. They did make a DLC out of it though.
Dishonored is basically what your looking for. While set in a fictional world. The time period resembles the Victorian Era with its dark world atmosphere, the plague and story.
dope game
This were they started exprimenting with the Steampunk/fantasy concepts in the franchise. It's like they really wanted to make rpgs and over the top fantasy games but were too afraid of leaving the security of AC's popularity. That's how we got Valhalla and Odeyssey. Unity is still the Ultimate Assassin's Creed.
They should’ve definitely added George Westhouse’s robes as an add on outfit.
I agree
Although some of the things said in the description are true, Syndicate is an amazing AC game and as shown in this video can be crafted to fit your expectations and likings. The story may be lacking in some ways for the time period, but I think it is an attempt at a similar story to unity or older games featuring a main villain trying to obtain a piece of Eden. I only started playing the games a few months ago but when I played Syndicate I fell in love with it, and I am only trying to vouch for it since it seems like so many people dislike it. I am sharing my own opinion, so I hope you do not feel obligated to write a negative reply.
I really hope they can find a fix for the issues on PS5, would absolutely *LOVE* to experience Syndicate like this again.
Same
Yeah I don't get why that's the only AC game with issues on the ps5 I expected unity to act up not syndicate
What's the point of having a grappling hook when one of the most fun thing in this game is parkour, seriously Ubisoft?

Its a mod
in terms of the stealth mechanic that is really good in syndicate, the grappling hook was a nice addition but what I really hate about this game is the combat system with those ridiculous ragdoll physics and the tone of this game is to how do I call this its to friendly for an AC game in that time period another problem is that Jacob and Evie are to childish in dialogues
Great Video as always
Combat is atrocious
The rag dolls are goated seeing a body turn all spaghetti was one of the best things about the old games same way in the new games well odyssey to be specific if you hit a guy with devastating shot when he is climbing it launches the body like 50ft in the air happened to me one time and I almost threw up laughing so hard😂
@@Igvga I played Odyssey and I hate it there too so I tried to stealth all the time in this game sometimes the ragdolls can be funny but it doesnt fit in to the series

What I like about Assassin’s Creed Syndicate that should have been in Unity is the ability to dodge bullets and return fire.
you can dodge bullets and return fire in unity
I wish Syndicate had a darker and more serious narrative along with a better main protagonist.

I wanted it to look like those leaked promo pics. It is obvious that they were photoshoped for presentation or the gameplay presentation was prerendered because the graphics of Syndicate cannot match those pics. It looked FAR MORE prettier. It is a pity. We could have had Assassin's Creed version of Batman Arkham games, lol. Just dark victorian atmosphere, constant night, perhaps a protagonist who is a rich manufacturer who is secretly an assassin, influencing the politics in London.. make it more of a drama like Peaky Blinders, with witty british dialogue.. it could have been more.
Syndicate should’ve been this: the dreary darkness from Jack the Ripper, I preferred Evie in that DLC, older and colder to match the time period, yes less light hearted and goofy but here’s the positive….
Less light hearted and goofy! 😂

I'd rather get a straight answer other than "it's on Nexus" or "realistic reshade". There are a lot of mods on Nexus, and there are a lot of reshades that are "realistic". I want the one that is in this video.
I get making a game is hard, the animation and programming and everything, but all it takes is some care and determination to make a project great, instead of doing the bare minimum.

But I just prefer the regular weather/day-night cycle.

It does
How did they not just make the parkour from unity smooth? I can’t even play syndicate cause it’s so similar.
