  • International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach said it was "chilling" to see the "cold" way Kamila Valieva was treated by her Russian coach after falls in her figure skating routine at at the Winter Olympics in Beijing.
Valieva, weighed down by a doping scandal and questions over the wisdom of allowing her to compete, came fourth on Thursday after several mistakes.
There was no hug and no comfort for the 15-year-old from coach Eteri Tutberidze when she immediately came off the ice, instead she was asked "why did you stop fighting?"
Tutberidze, whose training methods were already under the spotlight, did put her arm around the young Russian while she waited for her score. But moments before that had demanded to know: "Why did you let it go? Explain it to me, why?"
Valieva is the subject of an anti-doping investigation after testing positive for angina drug trimetazidine. The World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) has also said it will be investigating Valieva's entourage, including coaches, doctors and other adults surrounding her.

@Naver블로그: 성재기의 유산 All the news was about Valieva...the Russian skater that came in 2nd threw a temper tantrum b/c she didn't win. It was literally about everybody other than the gold medalist and Japan's skater realized it and comforted her.
The other girls were doing the most to the point where the actual gold medalist had no one there to congratulate her except the bronze medalist b/c all the ROC coaches were focused on the other skaters. It's almost like they were expected one of those two to be the winner and not her.

who did not see the broadcast, I explain that it was Anna's face in the waiting room IMMEDIATELY after Camilla's performance. We do not see the logical joy from the realization of her own championship, at that moment she was worried about the failed rental of her friend. And least of all she is upset by her own loneliness and the absence of coaches, because her friend is now much more painful! And maybe she understands why Camilla performed so badly. Just Anna Nobility and Compassion with a capital letter! Which in our time in big sport is almost unrealistic.

@@YAe71 I agree...Anna was so much more mature than most people would've been. Sakamoto was also amazing though...she was the only one there to comfort her. Anna may have understood what her teammate was going through, but both her Russian teammates (and coaches) were more concerned about themselves to suck it up and congratulate her. The Olympics are about sportsmanship and Sakamoto was the only one showing it in that moment tbh.
Kamila shouldn't have skated tbh...just for her own personal mental health. She's only 15 and literally had to deal with media scrutiny about doping right before the biggest skate of her career (so far)...that's a lot to deal with for an adult, let alone a teenager. I wasn't surprised that she fell...she prob honestly subconscious sabotaged herself b/c she didn't feel like she deserved it

Those coaches were absolutely awful to not only Kamila but her teammates too. Sherbakova won first palace and was left standing alone, with none of her coaches congratulating her. It was quite evident that her accomplishments meant nothing to them. In her moment of of fame she was basically told that she was undeserving because her teammate was supposed to have won. All of those girls are young, and they all deserve adults around them that are supportive and safe. Having Kamila compete should never have happened. Not only for her but for all of the athletes who were there to compete clean. It was much harder on Kamila's mental health, then having her sit out due to the doping scandal. In the end she is a child, and her entourage failed her. I hope those coaches are banned, and that there are consequences for them for the abuse and neglect they committed.

Kamila needs to be protected, period. She's just a child. I have seen almost every video of her on RUclips when she's practicing, being interviewed in more relaxed ways, dancing, speaking to Putin in a zoom call infront of the whole Russian olympic team and all I can say is that she is so sweet and determined. You can see it in her eyes she has a gentle soul, a good heart and truly is passionate about her sport. I mean, it's unbelievable to see what she is capable of doing. She could be the worlds best ballerina too if she wanted. Sadly, the same thing can't be said about that female coach of hers. If you actually do a bit of a research she's basically raising young girls, pre puberty to become insanely good. When they hit puberty and their bodies break down because of a training method not based on muscles but on weight, she basically throw them off at nearest garbage/landfill station. This happened with both Olympic champ Zagitova and silver medalist/world champion Medvedeva. I am absolutely full of admiration for all these Russian girls; Valieva, Tursova, Zagitova, Medvedeva, Shcherbakova. They deserve all the support they can get because what they have been doing during their careers is just simply breathtaking. I honestly don't think people understand how hard they train and the emotional ups and downs they go through. They are all warrior princesse's

As for the sharp negative towards Eteri, this is public opinion formed under the microscope, based on the dominant of her group, which is unlikely to end soon. This can be understood, as well as the fact that the focus of anti-fans will be the suspicious Eteri, and not the really suffering and needy children around the world. All three of her champions from Lepnitskaya, Medvedeva and Zagitova did not leave due to injuries. Two of them could not bear the burden of fame and just wanted to relax after years of work. You are an Olympic champion, what more could you ask for? Why did Evgenia, having left for Canada, not tell about the exploitation and pressure of Eteri, if any? Why didn't she have a career with the brilliant Orser? Why are those who left Eteri returning to Tutberidze, is it Kostornaya, Trusova? maybe we should talk about this and about the opinion of the athletes themselves, who know what they need?

On February 14, 2022, the CAS sports court rejected the appeals of the IOC, WADA and ISU and allowed Kamila Valieva to compete at the 2022 Olympics[22]. However, the investigation of this case is not completed and will continue after the Olympic Games.
The CAS Court, in its decision on the admission of Valieva, pointed to a violation of the WADA Code by the WADA laboratory regarding the 20-day deadline for submitting doping test results. In this regard, Valieva was deprived of the opportunity to prepare data in her defense. The Court also took into account the absence of a positive test sample during the Olympics itself and the fact that Valieva is a minor and therefore belongs to “protected persons”.

The thing is, Kamila’s fall was faked. It was all planned, as well as Tuberitze’s fake anger towards her.
There is no way that a talented skater like Kamila, who has been performing perfectly all season, had that many falls, under whatever circumstances. She was sacrificed so that Russia can get a gold medal on spot, whatever the ramification of the doping scandal will become.
Sasha’s outbreak and crying at Tuberitze “you knew it all” tells it. If you don’t like your score, you argue with the judge, not your coach. She was mad at Tuberitze for planning this behind her back and she was basically “arranged” a silver medal.
Also it is observed that in the free program Valieva didn’t jump high enough for her quads, as if she feared that it could be too good.

    • @chrisslater4053

She'd finally had it being the scapegoat & decided to throw the event to penalize those that had doped her up with a banned substance. And I say good for her, in fact I wondered before the long program if she might do just that, so it was no surprise to me when she did. That took guts! I think the proof is when in the kiss & cry section she tried to lean on a man to one side & her blond woman coach pulled her over to her & started asking hard questions. That to me is evidence Valieva rebelled. It initiated a conflict.

The 4 important things we should pay attention in this Camila case are as follows.
    1. In this season, during 4 months from the 2nd Grand Prix Skate Canada (Oct.29.2021) to Olympic,
Camila's doping test results were all clean at 4 international competitions.
    2. Only one doping test result for Russian national competition was more than 200 times polluted.
    3. Why RUSADA requested doping test for domestic competition to Sweden and
what was the reason such long time (6 weeks) needed for test & result publication?
4, Under the above situation, was IOC's action against Camila appropriate?
    Regarding 1 and 2,
Camila was on the way of breaking new records during that period,
so if she intentionally used drug to improve her performance, it was impossible unless she continuously used it,
Therefore it is medically impossible to explain.
And she has been negative at both the Euro Champ and the Olympics after Dec. 25, but she made an Olympic records again at team tournament.
For 3, there are two possibilities.
One possibility is that the Swedish lab made a technical error,
and the other is that RUSADA got involved in a Russian internal dark fight and deliberately tried to swap samples to kill Camila and Etheri.
It is up to you to decide which possibility is higher.
What I'm going to focus on is about 4.
Under situation of lack of convincing evidence and Camila's unacceptance of intentional doping, the IOC sued to CAS to disqualify her.
However, the CAS dismissed the IOC's indict on the grounds that Camila was a child under the age of 16 and the principle of presumption of innocence,
allowed her to compete in the individual competitions. This means not just let her go out on the ice, but let her normally can compete.
So IOC should have announced that IOC would normally award medals for the results of the competition,
but medal and record could be deprived if Camila's intentional doping definitely found out.
However, IOC put tons of pressure on Camila with a shocking decision that "If Camilla is in the top three, the awards ceremony will be cancelled.",
Eventually, this IOC's brutal threat forced her to step down herself from the podium.
Furthermore this made it impossible to watch Camila's performance in full of heavenly and mysterious beauty,
which all figure skating fans around the world wanted to see.
And it could have been the greatest performance of her life. (I pray fervently to God that it won't be!)
Camila is not only treasure of Russia but joy of all Figure skating fans around world who pursue perfect beauty!
The IOC should kneel down and beg for forgiveness to her and to all figure skating fans around the world and take all responsibility!

Побеждать правда для путинской команды будет труднее - даже с допингами ведь Нельзя будет высасывать соки из детей на взрослых соревнованиях. Но какая разница если россию все равно никуда не пустят?

Could she be punished because at some point she did not toe the line... Some one did not want her competing that's for sure... Obvious she's not getting any encouragement.... Some one's trying to break her and it looks like they are succeeding. I have seen this same treatment of an athlete first hand. Jealousy is a terrible thing. Correct, which was a perfectly legitimate question from a coach who intimately knows the abilities of her student and prodigy, she wanted to know why she gave up. This tells me that it was Bach's threat to Kamila, if she medalled there would be no medal ceremony and all three girls would not be awarded. I believe the plan was to eliminate a Russian podium sweep at all costs and also discredit her coaches.

She’s still young, she’s very talented but she needs to play fair and clean. It’s the Olympics, it’s the rules. Her coach shouldn’t have said that to her tho. That’s like kicking someone when they are already down. “Why did you stop fighting?” Her coach said. But if she did her best, it would only be looked at as the drugs helping her (in my opinion) not her true talent. I do believe she’s talented but again, she’s still so young. She has a big future in front of her. I hope she doesn’t let this get to her too much. There’s always next time. Even the best skaters have made tons of mistakes. That’s how you learn

I suspect this thing is being overblown because of the tensions between certain countries that I won’t name. 10 year olds used to work in English coal mines over a hundred years ago and today there are still many kids working in treacherous conditions all over the world. A coach asking an Olympic gold medal contender why they stopped fighting is what a coach should do and is definitely not cruelty. It seems everyone has become a wimp these days!

Another girl might have reacted worst or the opposite. This means, within the same situation you can handle things differently. These girls go the the Olympics because they are trained to fight and handle high stress and pressure.
